Yoon Kyun-sang goes undercover among the children of Korea’s elite in Class of Lies

Kids these days can be so scary. OCN has a new trailer out for its crime thriller Class of Lies, which stars Yoon Kyun-sang (Clean With Passion For Now) and Geum Sae-rok (The Fiery Priest) as an undercover lawyer and high school teacher, respectively. They will work together to try and solve a student’s murder, facing all sorts of institutional obstacles from the school and the people who study and work there.

The trailer begins with shots of Yoon Kyun-sang, whose character is a defense attorney with a notorious reputation, judging by the words of a prosecutor (Choi Yoo-hwa, Life), who calls him a scam artist, albeit one with a license. The two go head to head on a murder case involving a student at an uber-prestigious high school populated with the children of the top 0.1% of Korea’s elite. We see some disturbing images of the victim’s death, and then Yoon Kyun-sang is shown in court defending his client. In a strange turn of events, though, his client attacks him mid-speech as Yoon Kyun-sang was painting the victim as someone who was less than innocent, and has to be dragged away screaming by guards.

The case has several unusual consequences for everyone involved, as Yoon Kyun-sang is brought in front of a disciplinary board with his lawyer’s license in jeopardy, and he is forced out of his office. A school administrator announces offscreen that “our school has absolutely no responsibility with regards to this case,” as we see the victim’s picture at her own wake, with Yoon Kyun-sang watching from the entrance. The lawyer muses a hypothetical scenario in which the victim was stalked by someone and the accused student took the fall for the stalker. It looks like the accused student thankfully has one ally at his back in the form of his teacher, who goes around to the police station to hand out drinks and asks them to reopen the investigation, declaring that all her students are “like my kids.”

Frustrated by his sudden downturn in fortune, Yoon Kyun-sang decides to take matters into his own hands and reinvents himself as a high school teacher. Though this is one high school I would never want to enter, judging by the shots of students cruelly singling out and bullying their fellow classmates. A student confronts Yoon Kyun-sang and warns him that what he’s doing “may satisfy someone’s curiosity, but it can also be a source of pain for others.” And the cover-up does seem to go pretty high up, involving members the foundation behind the school. The teaser declares that “the true perpetrator is in here” as a student comments that if Yoon Kyun-sang enters, he will likely die. Who knew school was so dangerous?

OCN’s Class of Lies premieres on July 17 and will air on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

yes and no. depends on how they're raised and their environment. generally the more privileged you are, the more entitled you become and the less empathy you have. teens/kids can do some evil but for the most part....not to this extent though it happens. like hazing in colleges is ATROCIOUS and plenty of people have died or gotten hurt from it.

It seems like this could cover a lot of the same territory as A Beautiful World, only from a different perspective.

Omoo why does it look so intense?? A mystery thriller?? Usually this genre usually isn't my cup of tea but I'm rooting for Yoon Kyun Sang.. so will watch. Sure will watch.

This reminds me of the time I watched Gapdong because of Lee Joon. Luckily the drama didn't disappoint and it was actually good.
