Good morning @beantown - I was home sick yesterday and so spent the day catching up with A Moment at 18 - WOW! Now I understand why it's getting so many accolades!
tonight will be spent watching Before We Get Married raw (lets hope the subbers are back and can get it subbed faster..)
Then tomorrow I'm off to spend the weekend with my brothers who I love to death! We get together about every three months or so. It will be kind of bittersweet cuz my older brother is going through a very sad and painful divorce and our sister is just starting treatment for anal/cervical cancer in another state.
I'll be cooking and preparing food to take so we can eat and drink ourselves silly while we talk about everything under the sun.
Oh and get lots of hugs too.
I hope everyone has a good weekend and stays safe!

I picked up Rookie Historian cause of 'beanie buzz', but I'm blocking my ears (🙉🙉🙉🙉nananana can't hear you!) as I just can't fit in any more! I also watch BWGM raw, cause the wait for subs is AWFUL.

Your weekend sounds perfect; you are a wonderful member of a generous, caring family.

P.S. Nurturers are the butter of life, and as we know, everything is better with butter!

Well I won't agree with all of that. After my mom passed away I "fired" my two sisters and three of my brothers. haha
So it's weird to worry so much about my older sister as we haven't talked in about 3 years. But the nice thing is that it's opened a new dialogue between us.
family - can't live with them and can't live without them right? not exactly.
BWGM - am hoping against hope that at least it's mostly subbed by Sunday. This is going to be an epic week!!
Rookie Historian is quite fun too!

😂🤣 We are separated by distance (which can be good or bad, depending upon the relative!) We're all gathering in a few weeks for a memorial service, .....and the bickering has already begun🙄

1

It seems to be a common thing that when one person or couple becomes a the caregiver for a family member, it can tear a family apart. Don't know why that is.
Our family was already split up by politics and religion (too many kids are RIGHT - haha) and when the parents were gone, the kids mostly went our separate ways.
Good luck with the memorial service...
I have come to believe that we spend the first 25 years of our lives with our family, and the next 25 years in therapy getting over it. 😂

It’s a 4 day holiday here so my plans are Sleep x10000, catch up on dramas, have friends over to celebrate my oven being fixed (hurray!) and maybe squish in some exercise.
Tho usually I will end up just sleeping or watching more dramas. Lol.

Happy Friday, Beanies!

I currently have The Sims 4 installed on my laptop and I was actually trying to finish the 100 Baby Challenge but I suddenly got bored and stopped playing the game for a month now.

Now, I need some suggestions on how I can spice up my playthroughs and add some storyline. Can you guys suggest a makjang way of playing the game? The more makjang, the more fun!

Hi Beanies!

I've spent three weeks at my grandmother's house with no internet and it felt like a detox cure(?) from technology and dramas (I still watched Come and Hug Me that I downloaded from a long time ago). So, what do you do to fill your days? Playing dominos, reading books and real life family drama were the top answers for me. I've read The Shinning and The Gunslinger (The Dark Tower Part. 1) both from Stephen King, Ursula Sternberg's Ruhrbeben and Harper Lee's How To Kill A Mockingbird. The latter one was showed in A Beautiful World and I understood why the writer chose to feature it in the show. It's about injustice, discrimination, education and kids vs adults perspective. Thinking about ABW, it was really an educational show meant for kids and adults. I still think The Villain weren't treated like that in the end. As I watched C&HM, I was satisfied with the villain serial killer because it made me hate him properly. I just want to add that Na Moo's mom was awesome and my favourite character. She was such a strong person for loving all of her children and wanting to protect them. Onto my drama watching... I feel like I fled a storm in July and don't know what to watch. So I picked up "easy" dramas to watch from my standard but that will on an other post.

Happy Friday :D

I actually find I need to detox more from social media than I do technology. Sometimes on a whim I delete my Facebook, Instagram etc...

I love To Kill a Mockingbird. We did it for literature in school and it was amazing. I haven’t seen A Beautiful World, but now I might just! Thanks!

Ask why you're on social medias and if it is really useful. Will your life if you don't have Facebook or Instagram? Will it be more difficult to stay in touch with friends and family without them? Can you spend your time in a more productive way and is it healthy for you to stay in them?

I'm not much on social media but I think it's important to not place it a above real life and yourself.

A Beautiful World's writer seemed really interested in literature and his/her choices were thought well (it came off as a bit preachy in some scenes tho). I hope you will still like it :)

I’m occasionally on social media. It’s good to keep up with friends but sucky because sometimes I feel it really paints a rosy view of everyone’s life which can make one depressed or discontent. Also, I find it sucks away time like a black hole, which could be better spent on real life things or even things I need to do (like Medicaps LOL) or things that make me happy like dramas or books. So yup. Once in a while I go offline and reconnect with friends, family and dramas! Haha

Required fields are marked *

To take the rosy view away, for pictures at least, I imagine how much trouble they had to go through to take them and then edit them with who-knows-what filters. It even made me admire them for their hard work haha.

The black hole effect is fatal! I only log in in the morning or at night to not disturb my day. But it's really hard to stop once you're in 😅

@mango,
Interesting idea. To be “stranded” if you will with one drama and yours was COME AND HUG ME. Well that was a fantastic drama and I agree that Mom was awesome. A couple random thoughts:
1. The spring of 2018 in South Korea produced some of the most gorgeous cherry trees that several dramas took advantaged of and CAHM had some stunning scenes among cherry trees; and
2. I was thinking that sometimes because of a role I can develop a certain paternal (if you will) affection for an actor/actress and that is what happened to me with Jang Ki-yong after his performance in CAHM. The burdens he carried as a young man! (Something similar happened with me with Seo Kang-joon after I watched THE THIRD CHARM. What a toxic family situation he grew up in!) I know it’s crazy but I go into a “don’t mess around with these guys” mode. I know it doesn’t make sense.

1

reply

Required fields are marked *

I understand better why there were so many cherry blossoms scenes in the early episodes. However, I wasn't fond of them. Maybe they were too... sentimental? Poetic? Or I wasn't in the mood for spring?

Your paternal affection isn't surprising. We spent 16 hours with a character, saw him go through numerous ups and downs and root for him. That affection gets transferred to the actor and I think it's a good sign that the actor did a good job. He became the character.

Hello Beanies!
And Happy National Day to any Singaporean Beanies! 🇸🇬

My Doctor John Medicaps will be delayed as I went to the parade with the Boy and the Husband- we got tickets! Haha.

But I really like where episode 5-8 went- @ally-le I’ll give my final verdict after I watch a bit more but this one has promise to be like RDTK. 🤞

Also, going to hit up on my crack drama which is Before We Get Married- I hope it’s not frustrating and we see more of the leads and less of the irritating second leads. 🤪

And today the Boy didn’t wake up till 815am so I got 9 hours of sleep! It was a miracle! Hahaha. Those of you with kids will understand my euphoria. Haha.

Hope everyone has a great week ahead- it’s a long weekend for us here! ❤️

Nothing that is fiction is coming to mind now...

Happy National Day to Singaporeans and Singapore. Fun fact, I have always wanted to go to Singapore because when I was young (i mean infant) I heard my father went there and bought some snacks for the fam which were too good. Since, I was an infant I never got to eat them. Lol I have yearning of going to Singapore since then. While I did once think of trying to look for work there, I have heard a lot about Singapore being expensive and harder to live financially. Is that true?

1

reply

Required fields are marked *

Haha wow snacks you have been wanting since you were an infant! Well yes we are quite famous for food. But I don’t know if we can live up to such high expectations! But come anyway! 😝

It’s true compared to our nearby neighbors we are more expensive to live. Most expensive is a car and a house. But many people get by without a car- our public transport system is fairly extensive and reliable. Also, if you are ok with a slightly longer daily commute you can stay in the “suburbs” for a much lower price.

But Singapore is so small, you’d probably laugh at how near everything is- for most people if we have to drive more than 15-20 min it’s very far away already! 🤣

So guys, I need your help. I am currently roped into going to blind dates by my parents and I'm in a bind. Uncannily like a k drama, I have never dated before for several reasons. I have friends who are boys but not boyfriends. According to my friends, I never understood flirtations even when somebody was being obvious. So, I am asking the experienced beanies for help. Please tell what I should look for, be aware of and hope for in blind dates. Sometimes it's better to take unbiased advice from strangers. Please help me!

-Look for someone who listens to you.

-Listen to your intuition. Don't talk yourself out of paying attention to little things that tell a different story about this person than what he is trying to tell/show you. (For example, is he rude to waitstaff or anyone else? Does he try to cut in line in front of other people or try to get ahead in similarly unethical ways; talk poorly about others, especially women; focus too much on appearance; brush off or minimize your ideas, concerns, or opinions; talk too much about himself or turn anything you say into something about himself? These things will tell you a lot about a person's character.)

-Take it slow, so you can get to know the other person well. Give yourself time to find someone you really click with. Don't rush into a relationship. It's harder to get out of one than into one.

-Have fun! First dates are not a commitment. :)

have fun and relax. it's hard but go into it realizing you have literally nothing, nothing, nothing!! you must give and altough it's stressful it will be ok!

great advice from @jamieopso couldn't have said it better myself.

if you're going out with a man, i am assuming, just yea everything they said.

it's okay if you don't click. be yourself. this is so cliché but seriously be it a mental block to get over or drinking for some liquid courage, your best self is the one you present to everyone making you unique.

re: flirting, it's easier to think someone is into you if you're really confident in yourself because you'll see it better. not sure where you stand on that but the cues are like...staring (LOL), touching, getting closer, asking questions around dating/life, if you touch on the topic of types etc. if it's in a bigger setting basically if you dominate their attention.

you're great! good luck!

Its Chinese Communist party vs. Hong Kong(some population)
India vs. Rising Authoritarianism(in Kashmir)
Trump Marching ahead.

Real Life entertainment is best entertainment.

It includes all facet of life and fiction. You get excited at the misery of others. This is why i always prefer politics and Sports.
Chaos is entertainment the norm of new world.

Chinese Govt is giving quite lookwarm reaction. What's the game here? They all of citizens data that can help turn any situation into one that benefits them the most but so far they are just sitting there watching Hollywood CGI movies. Any -ve will directly look bad for Xi Xinping. A little shout and everyone around starts to get the courage.
That's why you destroy this hope as soon as it starts to sprout. The best way is Fake News - India and Brazil for it.

I think Trump will use a lot of strategies already successfully used in India and Brazil. Its just that media isn't brainwashing people. The best strategy is to - use Discredit campaign(which he has done so far). SNS is full of polarsiation and halftruth+ fake news. And its proven that SNS can shape opinion of lot.

Trump, Putin, Modi, Erodgan, Boris, Jair, Duterte, scott, Victor orbon

These i can name easily. All of them also have good relationships with few Selected Multi National companies. They became powerful not inspite of people, but because of their own people. So blame lies with VOTERS.
Ideologically and for My own vies and principles i stand against them.

Fun Times ahead. Enjoy while you are ahead. In future they will aim at you. Better get into their good books - Practical solution or even join their party.

i think we have to remember that this isn't history that can last. at least, in my world view and what i care about social justice wise that this will not go on forever.

i also think that the Real News speaks truth to power. but we have to seek it. the intercept is doing MAJOR work, glenn greenwald (gross fact his husband is significantly younger than him but i'm like OKAY WHATEVER I JUST WANT U 2 B SAFE) in part with other true journalists are changing the world.

this didn't expressly happen because of the people. a lot of these are lies or intense manipulation. there was a literal coup in brazil, with the murder of marianne, lula going to prison. there are only so many options in the face of corruption. the blame truly is on the idea of capital and oligarchy reinforcing the oppression. what can be given to constituents is knowledge and power and dignity/

@manohira—May I join your fan club? I first saw Lei Jia Yin in How Will I Love U earlier this year (Amazon Prime) and was astonished at his transformation as the breathtakingly competent Zhang Xiao Jing in The Longest Day in Chang'an (Amazon Prime, Viki). As actors go, he's NOT your typical pretty-boy/dashing Chinese lead—he looks like a normal person with not-great-posture, with a really big head. And he's awesome.

As Zhang Xiao Jing, he's hella manly and endearingly loyal to his chosen family and the people he likes. He's surprisingly sexy. I did NOT expect a romance in Longest Day; ZXJ's interactions with Tan Qi are quite tender, given the context. (I want them to a have shared future as a crime-fighting duo while makin' babies!)

I'd seen bits of him Old Boy and The First Half of My Life but never imagined him as romantic lead until I saw his lovable turn in How Will I love U. I was thrilled to see he did Weaning with Tong Li Ya—and was disappointed at the lack of English subs.

We're going to have to learn Mandarin, @manohira.

Yes of course, the more the merrier! OMG, @tsutsuloo, can you read my mind or what? That's exactly how it went down for me, but it started with The Longest Day Chang'an. I realize compare to most Chinese star, he's not that handsome. He looks like Koko next door (most of Chinese in SEA are hokkien speaking), nothing special about his look. But as ZXJ with his moustache, log hair and armour in Chang'an he transformed in to a damn hot guy.
Yes yes yes with everything you said I want to see him and Tan Qin have an ending like Guo Jing and Huang Rong (from The Legend of Condor Heroes).
He was very endearing in How Long Will I Love U maybe because he could show how an average guy in love. You feel close to his character. It was so cute when he showed her mixing two kind of peanuts will make them taste like chicken 😄, or when he tried to make and pass a stack of chocolate sandwich as chocolate cake.
I've been planning about learning mandarin since last year, but my lazy ass... I think, in a few years Chinese shows will dominate east asian entertainment like Hongkong Cinema and tv shows in 1980s-90s.

My brother and I deeply regret that our mom chose not to speak Cantonese to us. Dramas have taught me three essential phrases said by EVERY C-drama character ever:

I'm sorry | 对不起 | duìbùqǐ
thank you | 谢谢 | xièxiè
what's the matter | 怎么了| zěnmeliǎo

After looking at reviews at All Language Resources, I'm seriously considering the Chinese For Us online program.

My dream plan is to do the 8-week summer immersion program at Middlebury College in Vermont summer of 2020. The student debriefs on YouTube make the experience look so compelling! I've been hoarding my vacation hours for a year now and I'm laying groundwork to make this happen. If my boss approves, I'll apply in January, offer Subway sandwiches to the drama gods and pray for good luck. 👊🏽

That's really cool. I totally agree with your plan. If you are fluent in mandarin, it will be easier for you to learn Cantonese, right? I think it's important to understand our root. I converse in Javanese with my mother although mostly in ngoko (casual) level. My mom wants me to be able to communicate with family and neighbours in her hometown.
I will pray for your boss to approve your leaves. We don't have subway here, I will make smoked beef or tuna sandwich with banmi bread and covered it with green paper. I hope the drama Gods won't be to fussy and ask for the authentic one.
I'm kinda hopeless with language. I've been learning english for more than 20 years, but still not proficient to use it in speaking and writing. I really want to understand mandarin simply for using weibo and stanning my favourite actors or drama. It's just I'm not sure if it's a good enough reason to learn a new language when my English is still mediocre. I'm also using hello Chinese, I understand only few words like mao (kitty), gao (dog)...that's all 🤭

1

@manohira—If you describe your charming and colloquial written English as "mediocre," I'm giving up! Your English is great!

2

@tsutsuloo thank you, that's very nice of you.

Hi, Beanies :)
I spent last weekend binge watching entire Reply 1997 and 1988, and my body still haven't recovered. I sleepwalked through the week and promised myself not to start finished series for at least six months.

Yeah, take a breather and absorbed them.

Now Netflix is in the game of Kdrama, I find pretty frustrating that the original channel doesn't release videos of the drama and BTS's scenes on their youtube channel anymore.

In another register, will there any Beanies in Paris for N.Flying's concert?

At the risk of sounding crazy... but okay, after hearing about tone-deaf singing lulling people to sleep my musical crisis is minor:

So I'm watching NOVOLAND EAGLE FLAG, and the end theme has exactly the same opening notes as the ARTHDAL CHRONICLES theme (remember Tagon's little humming song?). It's driving me crazy! Now I'll be humming the Arthdal tune until September.

Here's the Novoland OST: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OABTECBg3o Sadly the Arthdal OST has not been released so you'll have to take my word for it.

No worries, I’m a pianist who is not tone-deaf but sometimes it’s a pain because I pay more attention to the music than the dialogue in a drama. And then I have to replay the scene

Well, that is good! You can watch them this month and not suffer from the wait for Arthdal Part 3. 😄

happy weekend, beanies!!
i think I've been reading dark pieces in nearly every OT I participated. This week, I got good news!! I passed the exam that I answered in Dubai in June. In my country, this time of the year is rainy season. This week, it rained like everyday and I didn't see the sun for like four days straight. As a result, I got a serious cold and was in bed for 3 days. But, it's getting better now.
Drama-wise, I don't have anything particular to say. I'm just watching A Moment at Eighteen. I squeed so hard,I cried and I also got goosebumps, just by watching Kim Hyang Gi's scenes. The best moment of this week is Soo Bin and her mother's school alley scene.

I also read news about Korean-Japan trade war happening at the moment. But I followed Asian Boss youtube channel, so I wanted to know more about comfort women issues. Movies may not depict well but I watched Herstory, movie about comfort women fighting for apology. The movie itself is heavy, to be seen as a movie. But, it is based on real life events,so I watched until the end. Political reasons aside, I just want all of the senior actresses to be praised for such an amazing performances.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!!

What I am going to write might cause a stir but please hear me out. The Comfort Women were not forced to become prostitute. They were paid prostitutes. The Japanese military decided to set them up so that there would be an order in the war zone. Then a news paper writer wrote a fictional story that many Korean in Jedu Island were forced to be comfort women. He was a very leftist and it was now believed that he fabricated the story. Prostitutes did exists during the war time and actually nearly or more 3/4 of the prostitutes were Japanese women. Both Korean and Japanese women were paid quite well enough and those evidence are documentated . It is sad to know that rest of the world do not know the real truth. When we tell other stories, those are always denied with force. In the world those speak louder despite of the misinformation, that misinformation become the truth.
After the war, the Japanese government has requested to pay each comfort woman as a compensation but the Korean government told them that they would distributed the money to each woman and the Japanese government handed the compensation to the Korean government but they never did. The money was used for something else.
Here is a sample of other story. i quote this because he speaks in English.

That's bullshit, there are plenty of testimonials from the victims themself how they were forced into this and what conditions they suffered, don't spread misinformation.

Whether you find my comment is bullshit or not is your opinion but one must be open minded and not to be so shut out with different opinions and evidence. The fabricated story by the Japanese writer is the truth and the news paper agency who took in his writing was heavily criticized in Japan but this news is not known outside of Japan as if they refused to listen to a truth. The writing that I pasted is by an Australian society and is written in English. The war was over a half century ago yet I have heard that young Japanese kids( half and full) who live abroad have become victims of the bullies because of the Comfort Women issues so their Japanese societies had to stand up to uncover the truth. It is a sad history and even now it has affected many in various ways. However, I have a firm believer that we need to listen to both stories.
Anyway, if you deny it,
then would you deny this claim also?( They are not written by a Japanese corporation or by a Japanese)

What kind of source material it even is? Some conspiracy theory blog posts, that your proof? So according to your proof there was no Nanking massacre and no Unit 731, and no Holocoust.
How about you read some actual scientific work on the matter, and maybe listen to the stories of the victims, there were not only Koreans among them, and their testimonies are all similar. Or is the global conspiracy, again? https://www.sciencespo.fr/mass-violence-war-massacre-resistance/fr/node/3048
https://www.awm.gov.au/visit/exhibitions/alliesinadversity/prisoners/women
And do you think war crimes commited by Korean during Vietnam War, somehow erase war crime commited against Korean women, well your are wrong, that's not how world works.

Hi Everyone! ..... I hope you are all doing well today.

Hotel Del Luna - Am I the only one who wonders if there's more to Sanchez than what we've seen? I just keep on getting the feeling there's some secret with him.

Designated Survivor: 60 Days - At this point, everyone's a suspect!

Justice - Tension everywhere .... but it works!

Let Me Hear Your Song - Nice start, bad singing and all!

Doctor John - Just started this but I have to watch some more episodes to see if I'll continue with this or not.

That's all for now. Everyone take care and have a great Friday!

Hi @korfan Now that you mention it, I've started thinking about Sanchez. What do we know about him? In the first couple of episodes his appearances were negligible, and I was surprised that in the end he was not just a plot device character but has more of a role to play.

Here's what I recall about him offhand:
He is a long time friend of Chan Sung, from their years overseas and he was there when Chan Sung dated Mi Ra. He looks like a pizza restaurant owner, but is actually a millionaire.

His dad owns hotels and businesses overseas. He has a girlfriend named Veronica. He's scared of ghosts. He has easily become casual friends with Man Wol.

On the surface he seems ignorant of what's going on with Chan Sung although he has guessed that CS has feelings for MW. It was Sanchez who alerted MW to the existence of a gf or ex-gf in CS's life. On the whole he seems guileless and is a good friend to CS.

Other than that he May say more than he should or guesses better than CS expects, I haven't yet seen clues to what else he might be than what he appears to be. :-D

Hi Everyone and Happy OT! A Great National Day plus Bicentennial to Singapore!

I'm short of time to really watch and think about as many shows as I'd like to. However the few that I'm still watching are:
Hotel (de la) Luna - the metaphors and parallels, connections to past and present with clues everywhere… are still coming thick and fast. I need much time and energy to watch and catch every one of these and dissect them… or I could just watch with an amused eye as I see another metaphor pass me by. No time to give it the attention it deserves in order to appreciate fully its richness.

I was thinking about modern parents, themselves professionals, pressurizing their children to be top notch, when it was not necessary for their parents before them, who were often illiterate. And I was watching A Moment at Eighteen. I just feel so sorry for those kids and those parents, living in so much fear and stress all the time for years. Trying to fulfill the ambition of their parents as well find their own identity, is a terrible burden for the relatively powerless, young person. I'm giving myself a proverbial pat on the back for being a 'lazy' laid back mum, or it's just an excuse because I'm not that type of parent, and wondering if I ought to feel bad about it. 🤪

Doctor John - while not as compelling as the other two shows, I have to admit a vicarious enjoyment trying to figure out how the diagnosis and treatment or bedside manner with patient is going to work out. Then there's the fun comparison with real life medical info generously researched and shared by @michykdrama. It's good to know that the show is actually not at all far off from reality, medically speaking, … and NOW we know how come Doctor Yo Han could stitch himself up calmly LOL.

When the Devil Calls Your Name - I'm sort of watching this, but for reasons that I can't put my finger on, although I see some bits that spark interest, I'm not fully engaged. I find myself thinking, while watching, that I'm not engaged and that's odd when these actors are so good. Maybe it's the editing or the way the tale is not actually moving all that much.

I have kinda similar thoughts for Devil. I'm watching because I have too many questions and since ep3 reminded me of Perfume, I kinda want to see how Devil concludes it's story. As of ep 3, I find none of the characters are actually rootable. I don't even find myself rooting for Yi Kyung, which is weird, considering she has the characteristics of a very rootable character. I'm weirded out by Ha Rip's decisions and reactions to normal things...placing his foot on her head instead of closing the curtains is too forced for me...he's 70 yo, at least act a fraction of his age.

@growingbeautifully,
I am a Jung Kyung-ho fan and finally made the plunge and watched episode one of WTDCYN last night.
(Viki has episodes 1 and 2 fully subbed and is working on episodes 3 and 4. I think the tvN episodic length will slow down the availability of fully subbed episodes. )
Anyway, what a strange concoction we have here. Of course I am confused about who’s who and what’s going on. I will watch episode 2 tonight. Last week’s comments were generally positive so I am hoping this turns into a good drama.
I am concerned above the ambivalence being expressed and also about the ratings.

The Crown Prince is the guy in black robes in the first ep right? He sizzles with those intense dark eyes. So if there's history between them I might give this a shot. Search: WWW I. LOVE. THIS. DRAMA. This is definitely one of the best 2019 dramas and in my top list of dramas. I absolutely loved the ending and how it ended with the women. Not the romances. Even though the romances did play a big part in each woman's lives, it wasn't ultimately about the romance (and the men in the relationship). It was about this powerful women and their lives and some of their lives happened to have romances in them. I am also so glad Ta Mi didn't bow down to marriage. Not that there is anything wrong with marriage, but I wanted her to stick to her convictions and not bend to outside pressure. I also can't express how much I love Cha Hyeon (Scarlett). I loved most of the characters but she stole the show for me. This drama made me feel strong 😛

Go Go Squid Also finished this and this is definitely another favorite drama and another definite best of 2019. It was of course more fluff but I loved it. The drama did stall in the middle with the break-up and I was a bit disappointed how they got back together without really any explanation from Han Shangyan. But then the last about 10 episodes was nothing but a sugar overdose with how incredible cute it was. There wasn't much drama in their relationship from that point on which I greatly appreciate. Too many dramas have to fabricate sudden, pointless drama late in the show which can drag things down. Like what it did in the middle but thankfully they got over that fairly quick and moved on to the cuteness for the rest of the drama. I really enjoyed the ending and can't get over Li Xian's smiles and giggles. I had to rewatch too many scenes because of how freaking adorable they were. Great actors, chemistry, story and I loved the relationships between all the characters.

I am off to my Mom's this weekend to rewatch Go Go Squid with my Mom and little brother. 😆

@trinpie
I liked how the OTP were such newbies at dating and not knowing quite what to do as a couple, and yet gave us so many sweet moments. Shangyan was so super earnest and in a mighty hurry LOL. Even I was surprised at what a rush he was in.

I could have done with seeing less of the competition in the beginning and seeing the actual return of Team Solo in competition at the present time in some detail. Can't imagine why the PD thought having their win off screen was a good idea. Felt so cheated!

1
2
reply

Required fields are marked *

For sure! Even though he is 10 years older they were still a good match simply because it was a first relationship for both of them. He was definitely adorable in those last episodes. So many smiles! 😍

I liked the competition stuff, mostly because I am a gamer and I was invested in K&K winning. I had no idea CTF existed until this drama and I'm not into E-sports but it still played into one of my enjoyments. I wish they showed the 'celebrity' competition rather then just the after speech. You just know the original team Solo won by a comment later in the drama. I was also super confused and disappointed how blasé they were when K&K lost to Solo in the national championship only to realize later that they still made it to the Asian Championships. I didn't feel it made it clear until later on, so I was quite disappointed they lost only to realize they were still going to the Asian Championships.

The thing I didn't care about was how many flashbacks there were. Especially in the beginning where it was very heavy with the flashbacks.

But overall I still loved the drama. Some parts I wasn't a fan of or didn't think the drama handled it very smoothly but the romance and chemistry between the actors was the cutes and sweetest thing ever. I also loved the relationships between all the various characters and how it didn't have tons of pointless drama or tropes. ❤️

Designated Survivor: 60 Days Still top on currently watching dramas but my love for it has tapered off somewhat. Would’ve liked it better it followed the US version a little less in some aspects. Also think Secretary Cha is overshadowing main lead President Park & while I love Secretary Cha, don’t think this should be the case in a show about the Designated Survivor. (Minor spoiler: Also agent Han seems to have forgotten all about rescuing the kidnapped kid. Think this is shoddy writing. She was looking for the kid, got distracted by events but the poor kid - no one would’ve been feeding him or seeing to his medical needs? She’s completely forgotten about him!
Watcher Surpisingly good & unlike Designated Survivor, they remembered and prioritized rescuing the kidnapped kid, LOL.

I remember watching an episode as soon as English subs were available and when I check the site the day after a recap was already posted, helping me understand the episode more. I really enjoyed reading the explanations. But now, dramas are being dropped (Nokdu flower) without notice and we get these series reviews/four episode reviews instead of an in depth recap. What gives?
