Park Min-young, Seo Kang-joon considering JTBC bookstore romance

Well, don’t they make a pretty picture. JTBC has a new drama in the works called I Will Find You When the Weather Is Nice, which is a bit of a mouthful of a title. The drama is an adaptation of a 2018 novel of the same name, penned by writer Lee Do-woo, and is already making some buzz with its potential casting news. Park Min-young (Her Private Life) and Seo Kang-joon (Watcher) have both been offered lead roles, and both actors are reportedly reviewing the script.

The show is in its early stages, without even a director or a writer attached to the adaptation, which is why I’m a little surprised to hear that casting is already underway. But I’m looking forward to seeing how the show shapes up, because the synopsis of the novel that the show is adapted from sounds like a thoughtful, introspective snapshot of two people who fall in love. And the fact that a bookstore plays a major role in the story is a massive positive from me.

The reports don’t specify which roles have been offered to Park Min-young and Seo Kang-joon, but I think it’s safe to assume that if they join the show, they’ll play the lead couple. Park Min-young’s would-be character is an art instructor who quits her job at a prep academy after an incident with one of her students. She decides to go stay with her aunt, who runs a guesthouse, and comes across a high school classmate who now owns a bookstore that was converted from a small, old house. That classmate is the male lead, who used to harbor a crush on her, and who gives her a part-time job managing the bookstore while she stays in the area for the winter.

A wintry, countryside setting and a quaint, homey bookstore? Sign me up. Although I might have to wait for quite a while – I Will Find You When the Weather Is Nice is slated to air on JTBC sometime in 2020.

Just the fact that the main setting is a bookshop has me sold. There's little I love more than browsing independent bookshops, which are unfortunately disappearing all too fast these days. The fact that JTBC has picked it up gives me hope that it'll be more subdued or slice-of-life. Park Min-young and Seo Kang-joon signing on would be a bonus. That name though...it's approaching Let's Hold Hands Tightly and Watch the Sunset territory.

Wow this sounds like a sweet plot (to begin with, anyway). I hope they confirm - this would be a great pairing. Also, is PMY getting typecast into romance/rom coms? I haven't seen her in any other type of role.

Only her last two shows were romcoms. Before that she did Seven Day Queen, Remember - War of the Son and Healer which are all different genres. Currently I am watching her first ever drama, Unstoppable High Kick which is a sitcom.

It's ironic because before What's Wrong With Secretary Kim, she never did a romance/rom com centric drama. But that show blew up and she was well received in it, so now she's the go to romcom queen for K-dramas. Gong Hyo Jin was the undisputed romcom queen in K-dramas for a while.

Can someone give me Seo Kang-joon who has harbored a crush on me?

Ideally he will also bring me tea and tuck me in under a warm blanket while I manage the store from a comfy couch.

One of my favorite scenes in SKJ’s last romantic drama THE THIRD CHARM was Joon-young (SKJ) and Young-jae (Esom) near the end walking along a path on the the island (after independently returning to visit the old timer) while snow started to gently fall. It was a lovely contrast to all they had been through.

The plot sounds nice, nothing new but if done right it can be a gem...I'm adoring Park Min Young so i would be happy if she accepts the role(as i want to see her on many dramas) even if 2020 sounds so far away now!!!

This sounds so good that I wish I could read the novel! And Park Min-young has got a good eye for rom(com)s. And she already got the art part down. Hopefully they can both fit the drama in their schedule especially when it's six months from now.

Hate to be the one but I find this casting to be disappointing. As much as I had wished to see SKJ in a lighter role after Watcher, PMY’s acting is lacklustre and I don’t understand the hype around her.

Same. I have not been able to feel any of her roles. I could not get through Healer after trying numerous tries and found her typecasted in WWWSK and HPL. Her only credit is she can kiss really well.

SKJ has chosen very challenging roles lately and I've become used to see him stealing the show. Now a rom-com seems a bit meh for him, unless the script is really good and the other actors can match his awesomeness...not sure if this would be the case. The truth is that I don't like PMY very much and her latest dramas have been quite dull. I hope he makes a wise decision.

I asked for a Seo Kang Joon noona romance in a comment a while back, and the Lord has delivered a hella noona romance unto me! I am duly thankful. I love noona romance (though I guess it won't be, given the classmate thing... but I'll take it!) and both these actors, never pictured them together but am completely picturing it now. I hope they accept, that it's lively enough to be interesting as well as sweet, that there's fun book stuff, and considering I thought he did excellently at being a sweetie in Are You Human Too and at pining in Cheese in the Trap, I die at the thought of Seo Kang Joon with his crush! Who could blame him, it is Park Min Young.

Despite some dissapointment with some of their rom com drama (look at you, beauty inside and clean with passion), JTBC always Let their producer be creative and be sincere. Their best drama is never dissapoint me this year yet. So glad Kang Joon back to JTBC. His last drama with JTBC makes me so happy!.

No one has mentioned “the aunt”. So my recommendation to Producer-nim is please contact Kim Mi-kyung (HEALER’s Jo Min-ja) and offer her the role of “the aunt” in IWFYWTWIN.

This sounds like it could be very 'meh' when done poorly but really good when given the right writing, dialogues and cinematography. I hope it's the latter because I need a good, slow burn drama for my make-believe winter season (since it's hot where I live 365 days a year, LOL).

I don't mind with PMY the actor, I just didn't like her character at first. to me her character still shows stereotype of strong female character of dramaland. The worst of the worst is of course Ma Yi-deum of The Witch Court (I hate her so much).
My favourite strong female characters in k-drama are the WWW leads with Ta-mi as my favorite, the female lead in Live Up to Your Name Dr. Heo and Ha Moon-soo from JBL. Ji-ho used to be also my favorite until the last few episodes, she changed into a different person.
It seems to me that k-drama writers often interpret strong and capable female characters as loud and aggressive. It's just not my cup of tea.

1

the thing is what people call "strong and aggressive" for women is quite often interpreted as "passionate and assertive" for men. :-) So I'm cool and down with the reasonably "strong and aggressive" women like PMY in Healer, Heyon in Search WWW and yes, definitely Moon-Soo in JBL.

Actually I loved her in Healer. And honestly PMY is one of my favs. I was just agreeing with you that JSM will also be a good fit :)

@mano,
HEALER was my first kdrama so naturally I am a bit protective about the cast with the exception of actor Jeong Gyu-su who played the despicable Secretary Oh. However after JGS’s endearing performance in NOKDU FLOWER he is finally out of my doghouse.
I concur in part with your comment about WITCH’S COURT. I know I am in a minority but it was my least favorite drama of 2017. I was annoyed for its entire run by the way Ma Yi-deum (Jung Ryeo-won) treated her supposed hoobae Yeo Jin-wook (Yoon Hyun-min). It really affected my watching JRW in WOK OF LOVE which after a hiatus I did end up enjoying and finishing.

Fair enough. I like Healer but never really care about the cast or invested to the characters. I don't know why either since I actually really like the drama. It's like watching Secret of Forest. I know it's a good drama, but I mostly care about the mystery, not the characters.

It does happen to me too. I never watch JRW in anything again, both her new and old dramas

I’m always on the lookout for dramas set in the countryside, especially the sea! I haven’t had much luck except with sageuks (CHUNO! NOKDU FLOWER!) As for amodern day dramas. I recall:

-PINOCCHIO has some beautiful country scenes in the early episodes.
-JUST BETWEEN LOVERS is set in Busan. Still a city, but it feels different from Seoul.
-In OJAKGYO BROTHERS the family lives on a farm but it’s near enough that the brothers can commute to Seoul for work.

Yay! All of those are already on my to-watch list! I have yet to watch a full-on sageuk which I really need to do. The closest I’ve come is Queen In-hyun’s Man and Splish Splash Love.

I can’t remember if I knew Just Between Lovers was set in Busan. I’ve been wanting to see more of Busan, so this is good to know. Even more reason to look forward to a drama that was already high priority!

Actually I think a lot of dramas are filmed in Busan or some other place but in the drama it is said to be in Seoul. Maybe houses outside Seoul has more character, hence making the houses more photogenic? Exp: Fight For My Way, the main leads houses were in Busan, but most other places were in Seoul.

I relate to the “forced myself”. In the past I operated under a masochistic rule: “start a drama, finish a drama”. Both HOSPITAL SHIP and TEMPERATURE OF LOVE were 20/40 dramas airing around the same time in 2017 and I plodded through both. You are right @wishfultoki HS at least had the advantage of beautiful scenery.

I find her pretty but not a very good actress. I wasn't able to finish Her Private Life and WWWSK. I tried but I just couldn't. Maybe because I like the "natural" or "subdued" kind of acting. I also think that she should do other genres like action or suspense thriller perhaps. As for Seo Kang Joon, I think he's better fitted in more serious roles (he's so good in Watcher). But if he accepts, I like him to be paired with either Chae Soo Bin or Nam Ji Hyun or the girl in Fight My Way.
