I am so excited about My Country. Please, can someone please, tell me he's the lead. Jang hyuk needs to be the lead. He cannot be a supporting actor. Because he is Jang hyuk. Jang hyuk sets the screen on fire. Jang hyuk is gorgeous. Jang hyuk is charismatic. Jang hyuk is love.

Okay, next. Things to look out for in My Country.

1. His country. Duh.
2. His horse.
3. His earring. Why is he wearing an earring? Because he wants to look pretty.
4. His thirst for blood. Because he is "bloodthirsty".
5. His huMANistic side. Emphasis on the "man". Because Jang hyuk is all man.
6. Jang hyuk's hair. Everybody holler, "CHUNO!"
7. Jang hyuk's abs. Everybody think, "CHUNO!"
8. Jang hyuk's MANliner.
9. Jang hyuk's laugh. Everybody laugh, "HAHAHAHA!"
10. Jang hyuk's smile. Melts me. Everytime.
Everybody say with me, "I LOVE YOU, JANG HYUK!"

This is me when people say they find Jang Hyuk too much. I’m like ‘how else is he supposed to be?’ 🤷🏾‍♀️ Yes, he can be loud and yes, his performance as Lee Gun in ‘Fated to Love’ you was just too ‘obnoxious’ because of his laugh (that I love so much by the way!) but that was his charm.
Have you seen him in Shine or Go Crazy? His performance was beautiful and so charismatic!

He was really gorgeous, understated, with simmering passion in Money Flower. I've asked before, but do they have awards for "eye acting" because sweep that category.

Good eye acting really sets those emotionally intelligent actors apart from the other actors who just wait for their turn to say their lines.

Hey Beanies!!! I’m teaching today, which I love. Had a dinner about adverse childhood events and how they affect grown ups’ physical health—profoundly, and then all about doctor burnout. About 400 physicians commit suicide every year in the US. One of the things to combat burnout is having a hobby completely separate from your career. That’s what Kdramas and writing about them are to me! Thanks for letting me write and discuss, dear Beanies! You guys are probably saving my life and my marriage. I experienced burnout as a pediatrician and it was terrible. So much happier now. Hubby told me later that he was close to leaving me because of it. Much happier now!!! Going to dinner tonight where our chef-friend will cook for us at his restaurant. Totally original-not-on-the-menu stuff. Met a Thai-doctor last night too, and invited him and his wife out and our dear friends, the Hans, will be joining us. Yes, they are Korean. No, they don’t watch kdramas. 😂. Their daughter listens to kpop though.

I’ve been watching Gilmore Girls with the daughter. I saw it every episode when it was airing and gave the DVD set. It was my favorite show for a while. Rory’s teenaged angst, preparing for her future and love life experiences still resonate with me.

Camillia Blooms my husband is watching. I’m kind of seeing it from a distance, but he usually watches things slower than I do, so I’ll probably be reading a lot of recaps ore seeing the actual episodes. I’m a spoiler kind of gal anyway.

I’m watching Rookie Historians last 2 episodes this weekend and have spoiled myself with beanie wall comments, so I’m looking forward to the end. Is seems like they stick the landing on this one and none of my leads die. (I’m always worried about the second lead after MDBC.)

I gotta go, so conversation with morals later!

Aw, Ally. Lots of doctors in my immediate family. They're all unhappy. One is a pediatrician, one's an ortho surgeon, another's a fresh junior doc, the final one's a family med specialist. They are all unhappy.

😭😭😭😭

Required fields are marked *

Tell me about it! I’m at the stage in my premature medical career where I have to be thinking about what specialty I’d like to go into and it’s a mess! Going to the hospital and seeing depressed, drained and sad doctors and nurses everywhere just fills me with trepidation about a possibly bleak future especially since junior doctors look the worst!
But I had the opportunity to work (didn’t actually do anything useful) in the trauma department and I immediately got hope because of the atmosphere of the Surgical theatre. They’re not like the internal med departments I’ve been in. Those internists always look dead and sad but in the theatre, they were happy despite the drama that ensues because of an arrogant surgeon.

I have known some trauma specialists and they did indeed seem happier. My theory is that their hours are actually more regular- even though what they go through at work is chaotic and messy.

I wonder why they keep being physicians or keep going into that field. I’m quite content with what I’m doing, but I change things up on my job a lot, to keep me engaged. I have about 3 different “jobs” all related to medicine, but it keeps me from getting into a rut, I think.

Junior Doctor was discouraged from joining the medical field by the other jaded doctors in the family. He was adamant, and insisted that medicine was his thing. But now, barely two months after he started working - Plastic Surgery with crossovers to Urology as a filler for busy shifts - he's drained. He's tired all the time. He worked ten days with a day off, and by the end of it, he was just exhausted. He took four days off, went for a short break, and now he's back to the grind.

I posted a very proper reply and it's awaiting moderation. What???? I just want you to know that my family is full of docs, in different areas of speciality, and they are all unhappy. They are tired, they don't have enough sleep, the workload is a huge burden. Doctors are the unhappiest people in the world. One of them told me recently.

Yes she did. It ends there.

1

Ugh, the new season is the worst. I hated it so much, I quit before even finishing the first half and swore off the second. Having read some spoilers for what happens later, I don't regret my decision at all.

I mean, no one did anything that made any sense! It was just all of the characters spinning their wheels and re-treading old behaviors and decisions. I thought the new season was going to be the original writers giving us a better, truer ending to the series, which I was totally hype for. I wanted Luke and Lorelai to finally, truly be together. I wanted Rory to figure out her place in life. I wanted a catch up on what was going on in all of our side characters lives. Not...whatever the nonsense we got.

I'm probably a little too passionate about this, lol.

@bcampbell1662 @mindy @ndlessjoie @ohsoenthusiastic and @ally-le

It didn't bother me that Rory had doubts in the university and she searched herself (she was quite boring) but after 10 years I was expecting she found her dream job and became the the same strong person than when she was young. But not at all... I pitied her boyfriend...

3

Required fields are marked *

That boyfriend, what’s his name? Lol. They kept forgetting about him. I would have broken up with her a long time ago. She never did anything for him. I guess that was the point though. I thought both she and Loralei were incredibly selfish through the whole series after about season 3-4. It just was more so in the new season. But the banter back and forth, just amazing. I could listen to that forever!

I read something recently about veterinarians having a high suicide rate -- many of the same issues as doctors + having to actually kill off patients + having chosen that career because they really love that kind of patient. Student loan debt + lower salaries than doctors.

One of the things I really love about DB is the unexpected learning I do here. Thank you, @ally-le and @lordcobol calling out the high suicide rate of doctors and veterinarians.

Honestly, I had no clue that vets were suffering. This Jan. 23 Washington Post article Suicides among veterinarians become a growing problem explores the burnout, fatigue and debt endured by many in the profession.

Not mentioned in the article, there's an overall shortage of large animal veterinarians in general. The ones we have are brutally overworked. Having vet schools and rural communities pay full tuition would be a good start for making rural vets' lives better.

My best friend from childhood is a vet never who veered off the path to realizing her dreams. Her warm and fuzzy All Creatures Great and Small fantasies were crushed at vet school when realized that the human pet owners were the most difficult aspect of veterinary care.

Back in the early '90s, her veterinary class at Cornell was 80% female. I had initially expressed wonder at that statistic but she noted that more women in a profession brings down pay for everyone. She graduated with $100K in debt and was fortunate to marry a partner with a good income.

I was just thinking back to the day when we euthanized our cat Baker, a handsome grey boy who'd suffered from chronic constipation for about half a year. It was not a peaceful process (it was hard to find a vein and there was much yowling). We never thanked our vet for handling everything with such empathy despite its difficulty. I'd recently had a miscarriage, and with our Baker dying, all I could think about was my own trauma. I'm ashamed to realize that I never thought about the vet having to doing this on a regular basis.

Financial stress and cybermobs/trolls were cited as major contributing factors in a couple veterinarian suicide cases I read recently.

High dentist suicide rate was mentioned in a Seinfeld episode way back. Social media couldn't have been a major factor.

i never heard about doctor suicide rates. Nurses do swo much but they don't kill themselves as often. i heard about dentists suicide though. and nyc cops are killing themselves at an alarming rate suddenly. After watching kcsi i wonder how the human soul can deal with all the horrors, fears, and death day in day out.

That’s one thing I subconsciously worry about. Med school has dealt with me in all ways possible but I’m finally able to stand with crutches. I can’t imagine going into the real medical world and end up being burned-out again when it took so much to get ‘unburned’ but in the moment of my life, I’m way more worried about how to find way after med-school.

I think it’s about remaining flexible. If you’re unhappy, change it, move, give yourself a choice. There’s always another choice. What saved me was knowing I was going to a new town, studying a new subspecialty, having less responsibility. And that was a lesson I had to learn. Don’t neglect your loved ones. If you quit everything, of fail at everything, you’ll always have them.

Dinner was awesome! And that new doctor I met, his wife is kdrama fan! Because we went to dinner with our Korean friends too, it gave her permission to mention it. She watches them after they’ve been subbed into Thai. And both she and husband are Goblin/ Gong Yoo fans! So we had a ton to talk about. She was floored when I told them about our trip to Quebec and my little drama group. Looks like I have a new member! So I promised a conversation piece, which happened after dinner:

Hubby: Em (term of endearment), come here! Like now! *yells at me from the bedroom*

Me: What?!? I’m watching the finale of Rookie Historian! *yelling back from the living room*

Hubby: Just for a minute!

Me: *rolling off the couch in a half food coma, slinking into the bedroom* This better be good.

Hubby: *lying down on the chaise watching Cammilia Blooms* Come lie down.

Me: I can’t watch this with you right now! I’m finishing my show. It’s the finale!

Hubby: Just watch this scene!

*We watch the scene where Dong-beak tells Yong-shik her type is Gong-yoo while Crush’s song from the Goblin OST is playing in the background and Yong-shik is all like, “How can a man compete with a Goblin?”

Hubby: Isn’t that awesome?! Did you catch music?

Me: Awe hon, your first meta-reference!

Moral of the story: Goblin love wins again!

2nd moral: Couples who watch kdramas together stay together!

3rd moral: My little town is getting more diverse!

I told my hubs how she was actually in a kdrama with GY, and he asked if that was why he was mentioned. Partly, probably, but I also said that they’ve never been romantically linked, which irks GHJ, because GY has been suspected to have dated several other co-stars. She’s said that she’s always thought of as the sister, not lover, and why doesn’t the media ever link her with GY! That made him laugh.

I love that he was the one who figured out about Pil-gus father. Mainly from just being around and paying attention. That last scene with the two of them was great I like that he has a more toned down mode. When they first introduced kim ji suk he seems a better fit for Dong -baek but then you see he is one of the people who pity her and her life. He makes her feel Less Than. After talking w/him she is distraught about her "ridiculous" life but Yong- sik reminds her that her life is good, that it is worthwhile and mean9 despite what others think...sorry I'm gushing.

It was quite an adventure to live in my appartment during this time. So it's finaly over and I'm happy of the result :)

Tomorrow, I will put everything in order, my living room will look like a living room and not like a depository anymore. I will be able to cook!

And overall, no more dust! I have a sinusite because of it!

Congratulations! I've lived through kitchen remodels and it's such a joy to finally cook and clean in a proper kitchen. I have a picture of my kid (then age 2) howling at the coffee table-cum-dining table, surrounded by debris. He wasn't the least bit soothed when I told him we were fortunate to have a safe home with running water and all that. Then again, there were moments when I wanted to howl after washing dishes in the bathtub for the umpteenth time ...😂

Dropping by here to say Graceful Family Fish is an amazing makjang that shouldn't be slept on. My closeted makjang self is so happy to finally have a show with the right amount of craziness, plot, and likeable leads (WHEN WILL THE OTP SAIL OHMYGOD).

I hope there will be a second like Age of Youth but I don't want to have a second season ruin this gem. I hope it gets subbed faster on Viki this week!

I'm not ready either. I'm anxiously awaiting the last 2 episodes (will watch on Monday when they should be completely subbed), but I really don't want it to end. I realized that I feel happy for a few hours after watching this show!

I have a crush on the TOP team, the ML, and the musical director. Not necessarily ranked in that order. Oh, and the earrings. The earring game is very strong here.

The TOP team members are great. Can't believe their job is to sweep Mo family poop because they're better than that. They can honestly do anything.

The fashion is also strong in this one. Everyone is fashionable (even Yoon-do lmao).

OMG! I love FL walking out with the song and all in red with red rose. I played that over and over again. End of episode 6 is the best. However, Picasso fish funeral is way better then my sisters fish funeral when they were young. We had a one hour Roman Catholic funeral for the fish. Smh. The worst part they want to do it in Vietnamese and English so we did two hour of freaking funeral mass. I had to make a cross of popsicles and write RIP to put in the ground. LOL I now teased my sisters about it. By the way, is the younger brother is something. Because why in the world he buy a lot of women clothes and jewelry. I am on episode 7.

Picasso's funeral is so grand. I just buried my fish, Goldy, in the backyard and my seven year-old self basically forgot about him a week after he died. HAHA

There are so many secrets to uncover in this show but I wouldn't want to spill some things so Beanies will be curious and watch this show! Hehe

@wishfultoki,
Re ARTHDAL Chronicles. I finished all 18 episodes. If that makes me a survivor, so be it. However,
I figure that with18 episodes at about 1 hour and 20 minutes per episode and writers-nim were unable to unite the bell, mirror and sword, well, that is all the time I am prepared to commit.
Eunseom and Ipsaeng be safe!
THE END (for me).

Same, my friend. It's not just 18 hours that we invested in this, but more like 24! Arrrrghhhh

So far 2019 has given me everything from best-written historical drama I'd seen in a while (NOKDU FLOWER) to the absolute worst disappointment (ARTHDAL). I hope MY COUNTRY let's us finish the year on a high note.

Ok so I finally started watching the drama that every beanie has been raving about THE UNTAMED.

And... I love it! Usually I shy away from historical Chinese dramas, but I just had to check this one out. The story is a bit confusing to get a handle on at first, but as the story progresses and names keep being repeated it gets easier. Now I’m HOOKED!

I have watched up to episode 17 and I feel like everything is happening now!! I’m anxious to see what happens with Wei Wuxian and how his actions from here on cause his death that was shown in the first episodes. Is he truly the big bad everyone says he is, or are things a bit more complicated than they seem... I can’t wait to watch and find out!!!!

One question about the storyline that keeps bugging me is why Madam Yu and Jiang Chen, and even Yan Li (although not as much) blame Wei Wuxian for the massacre at Lotus Pier???? Sure Wei Wuxian pissed off the Wen Clan by killing that tortoise thing, but he and Lan Zhang did that not only to save themselves, but everyone else that was stuck in the cave. ALSO the Wen Clan would have found any excuse to attack since they were on a rampage through several clans. They probably just needed to blame Wei Wuxian because it was such a traumatic battle, but that’s such a big burden on him that he doesn’t completely deserve.

Welcome to the club! Enjoy the show! ^^

Regarding your question: It’s because when LZ & Peacock guy were trying to save MianMian from getting used as bait to lure out the demon tortoise Wei Ying helped them by taking that Wen kid as hostage. It was not really about the tortoise, and you’re right, it’s just an excuse. JC & Madam Yu thought if WY stayed put and just let Wen kid killed LZ Wen clan wouldn’t have touched the Jiang Sect which is not true.

Yay! Welcome to the group! It's always great to see more Untamed Beanies. We have a tag list on the fan wall if you wanted to be tagged in our huge amounts of spamming. We even have a presidential campaign that's being ran by @kimbapnoona to elect Wei Wuxian as president. 😆

And episode 15 is definitely when the drama really starts taking off and doesn't stop until the end. So prepare for the pure addiction. ❤️

Not one to usually like spoilers, I found that even with spoilers and knowing what's going to happen, it's still the best drama ever. Especially if you've already read the novel and know anyway.

4

Yeah, these fans are obsessed! Unlike me, I only post (my fanwall) the music videos and character OSTs (most gorgeous music you'll ever hear, and the lyrics, so poetic). And the music vids from the Thai fan meet.

LOL. Yes. Just started... got to Ep 3. The comments here intrigued me.

After I started, I heard that this show had a lot of bad press in China (since last year?). It was not the story that had a problem but something else about the production.

Separately, I heard that it may have got 'banned' for other reasons. Not sure though, as I don't read Chinese and didn't check up on the news.

Anyway, all that does not bother me, just that it got more intriguing. 😉
