Plane crashes and corruption in spy-action drama Vagabond

Another action-packed teaser has been released for upcoming political spy-action melodrama Vagabond, starring Lee Seung-gi (Hwayugi) and Suzy (While You Were Sleeping). When a tragic plane crash occurs, a devastated young man, played by Lee Seung-gi, begins to search for the hidden truth, and finds an immense corruption at work. This drama depicts a harsh and risky journey for the “vagabonds” who have lost their families, their jobs, and even their names.

The teaser plays like a Hollywood action trailer with huge explosions, car chases, and hints of political mystery. With its big budget, the drama has been filming for almost a year already, including several times at overseas shoot locations like Morocco and Portugal. Suzy plays an NIS black ops agent, and Shin Sung-rok (The Last Empress) plays an NIS inspection team lead.

The president, played by Bae Yoon-shik (Cantabile Tomorrow), begins his press conference telling the media about “the most tragic news he’s heard throughout his presidency.” A CGI plane falls from the sky, and a crowd including Lee Seung-gi begins to violently protest against the president. Quick flashes of helicopter chases and police barricades are shown, and it looks like this tragedy has sparked action from many powerful stakeholders.

Lee Kyung-young (Haechi), who plays a weapons lobbyist, says in his voiceover, “This is not just about the FX business, it’s about the line between truth and deceit, and the fight between good and evil.”

A woman shouts into her phone to “Shoot him now!” and we can see the killing glint in Shin Sung-rok’s eyes as he raises his gun to Lee Seung-gi and Suzy who thought that they were walking toward safety. Their surprise is evident as a narrator says, “Listen carefully, this is your nation’s command.”

SBS Friday-Saturday drama Vagabond begins airing on September 20.

“the killing glint in Shin Sung-rok’s eyes”
He does this so well. ☠️

I don’t know if I will stick with it but I will watch 1-2 episodes to see Morocco and Portugal. And also to see Lee Seung-gi reuniting with Suzy after GU FAMILY BOOK. She did reincarnate as a police agent after all... so does that mean he’s still half Gumiho? XD

"SHIT HEEEM NOWWW" oh sorry did she say shoot? My bad :P :P

I shit you not I'm so excited for this even if it turns out terrible. I don't really have any expectations. I just wanna watch an action flick with Lee Seung Gi in it. That's all I care about.

There are two factors which give me the tiniest specs of hope of it NOT being trash though, (that I should quell instantly to maintain the no expectations mean no disappointment outlook) and those are that a) the director isn't terrible and c) the writer wrote Empress Ki.
Buuutt I've not seen anything by the writer and only one thing by the director so that aint a lot to go off and just cos you can write a sageuk, doesn't mean you can write a modern action flick, so I should probably just ignore those two points.

I’ve only seen EMPRESS KI out of their works. It felt very modern to me, in fact more like a Goryeo action-romance flick, especially the first half. The pace hardly lagged over its 51 episodes, so that might be a reason to hope that this one doesn’t run out of steam in the second half.

I agree with you. I don't mention EK because I wasn't impressed at all from the beginning. I prefer his work in DAE JO-YEONG.

GIANT (2010) is this team's best drama.
https://www.viki.com/tv/1274c-giant?locale=en
That marked the beginning of the live watching era. The subs was still a day behind but the speed increases as the show progress.

My first drama with this writer was DAE JO-YEONG (2006). I still prefer this 134 eps sageuk to it's over-rated movie version THE GREAT BATTLE (2018).

The veterans in this show are amazing and I hope they'll use and abuse their talents. Bae Yoon-shik, Lee Kyung-young, Moon Sung-keun are some of Chungmuro's well known actors for decades now. Moon especially has been underappreciated in dramaland. I hope he'll be given something solid to work with.

@kiara thanks for your comment i was able to watch another great historical movie, Great Battle. War of Arrows will always comes 1st in my list though. Im tempted to check out DAE JO-YEONG (2006) but 134 episodes is no joke.

Interesting tidbit: Vagabond held a prescreening and showed the 1st ep on the 10th of Sept for media. I never read about any kdrama doing this before, only movies have prescreening sessions. Ohoho

Anyways..I'm in for my new weekly dose of SSR! Also for Morocco and Portugal scenes..hopefully this drama does not underutilize the oversea locations like (imo) MoA did.

You lost me at "Hollywood Action". Usually means blowing up stuff, no character depth.
So which will it be? Typical Hollywood cardboard characters, or good k-drama in-depth characters?

I’m here for the cast and the thrill. I have no expectations except to be fully entertained. But then again, who knows, maybe this will surprise in a good way.

I strangely end up watching one of Suzy show despite not liking her as an actor. Somehow, some of my favourite behind the scene PD attract to cast her. Lol. Can't wait to watch it!

I'm still a little confused why I'm so excited about this show--it's not my favorite actors or my favorite genre, but I saw the trailers and I am so ready for it!! (I *am* looking forward to SSR for sure)

It will be a battle between the idol queens : Suzy in Vagabond, Hyeri in Miss Lee and Seolhyun in My Country.

I’ll watch the first two eps only because of LSG and SSR. I have reservations about the storyline and the FL.

Oh, them again together. When will this ever be for Kim Soo Hyun and IU who seems to keep missing each other from Dream High to The Producer (well, love unrequited on that one so) then on Hotel Del Luna. I think it would have been better if KSH is Ku Chan Seong only coz Yeo Jin Goo is younger and the romance is flat. So still hoping for this pairing.
