Yoon Shi-yoon has identity crisis in new teaser for Psychopath Diary
by tccolb
A new video teaser has been released for tvN drama Psychopath Diary featuring its lead actor Yoon Shi-yoon (Nokdu Flower).
As the central character, Yoon Shi-yoon plays the role of Yook Dong-shik. Out of all the people it could have been to pass by at that time and at that place, it was the spineless and hapless Yoon who by chance witnesses a murder. Scared and not knowing what to do, he tries to run away, but gets into an accident and ultimately loses his memory. The only clue he now has to his lost identity is a diary that was found on his person. However, the diary contains details of a series of murders and it leads Yoon to mistakenly believe that he is the psychopath murderer behind these crimes.
In actuality, the true culprit and owner of the diary, played by Park Sung-hoon (Justice), is still at large. And Yoon Shi-yoon works together with police officer Jung In-sun (My Secret Terrius) to piece together the real truth.
The newly released teaser focuses on Yoon Shi-yoon’s character, starting with Yoon waking up in the hospital and a close-up of his patient card shows that he has been diagnosed with retrograde amnesia. In a serious voice, Yoon explains, “The only clue to finding my lost memory. This diary is telling me that I am a serial murderer. As he speaks, we see Yoon holding a red diary while looking somber and contemplative. The background music becomes eerie and crescendos before suddenly cutting out and switching to a zanier tune. Cut to a comically frantic and nervous Yoon Shi-yoon who reads the diary in disbelief, “W-w-wow… I’m a murderer?” The teaser ends with Yoon’s voice-over, “The world has begun to fear the pushover, Psychopath Diary.”
Directing for the drama will be helmed by PD Lee Jong-jae (100 Days My Prince), and writing will be done collaboratively by Ryu Yong-jae (Pied Piper, Liar Game), Kim Hwan-chae, Choi Sung-joon.
tvN’s upcoming Wednesday-Thursday drama Psychopath Diary is currently set to premiere next month on November 20.

So....the perm, is that suppose to equal innocence in kdramaland. No one that looks that innocent with that hair can be a serial killer.

@larelle79,
The perm achieves "bangs down" = innocent, according to the Tonsorial Indicator of Evil. (Bangs up = going to hell in a handbasket.)

Glad to see I’m not the only one seeing things being signified by hair styles. 😉

@michelleb Possum,
Changes in male hairstyle are time-honored indicators of the state of a character's soul.

Kdrama Trope #128: Tonsorial Indicator of Evil (aka Semaphore Bangs).
Code: Bangs down = good. Hair up off of forehead = evil. As far as I know, this only applies to males.

Handwritten diary? How many episodes until he thinks to check the handwriting?

ROFLMAO, @lordcobol! Maybe his amnesia is so retrograde, he's forgotten how to write. ;-)

A hand written diary? Wouldn’t there be some DNA or fingerprints from the writer ?

Thank you for the update, @tccolb. Here's hoping that PSYCHOPATH DIARY isn't too dark. I'm still twitching after YSY's excellent turn in NOKDU FLOWER.

I can't seem to finish Nokdu Flower. I can't actually pinpoint the reason.

@lookie,
How far did you get before NOKDU FLOWER bogged down for you? It got pretty grim as the Japanese tightened their stranglehold -- and as the proverbial chickens came home to roost. The homegrown dry rot and corruption that set the whole mess in motion was infuriating from start to finish.
It occurs to me that the timing might be off for you. For myself, I have to be in a certain frame of mind to watch sageuks set in that era, or that are psychologically heavy. It also depends on what is going on in other areas of life. A show like this is not something to watch if you're already feeling stressed over school or work, or you're feeling under the weather. Perhaps you'll get a yen to continue it at some point when the the stars align. ;-)
I knew what I was getting into before it started, and couldn't wait to see how things would turn out for the characters I'd grown attached to. For some, I was hoping for survival, for others, well-deserved retribution. Although bleak days lay ahead for Joseon, it ended on a slight up note in a believable way.
That said, if it doesn't resonate with you or it's not your cup of tea, don't force yourself to finish it. Chalk it up to experience and move on to something else that's on your wavelength. ;-)

We sure are having a run of serial killers this year, and this is not the first to try mixing serial killers and comedy. I think there's a fine line to tread when you're aiming for laughs while people are getting murdered. I hope they find the right balance. No matter how talented, YSY won't be able to pull it off alone.
