Happy Thanksgiving, happy weekend and lots of SATTOO to all Beanies ! :D

@michykdrama, thank you for appreciating my weekly running gag this November! ;)

Last Tuesday I finally got word from the ghosting recruitment department. I would receive a hyperlink by email that would give me access to the online tests, except that the hyperlink did not work properly. I promptly emailed the recruiter who contacted me, but instead of a solution I received an out of office email with their general email address for urgent correspondences that I immediately contacted. Again, I received an automatic reply that they do not accept job applications through email and that I should apply through their external platform…the same platform that got me ghosted last time. Needless to say I was pretty pissed that evening and needed a shower and hot chocolate to cool off.

Wednesday I called them and got the same old empty promise that they would look into it, which of course meant getting ghosted for yet another day. By this time I felt like half of a pair of star-crossed lovers, but I refused to back down. So Wednesday evening I sent another email to both the recruiter and the general email address, renamed the email subject, put high priority and more of that stuff on my email, and hallelujah the recruiter fixed the hyperlink and replied before office hours on Thursday morning! Luckily I had to get up early for an appointment that fell through at the last moment, so I could finally spend my whole Thursday morning on the online tests that I should have taken care of last week already. The manager is in charge of the second part of the test round and all the feedback, so fingers crossed that the ghosting will finally end now.

Looking back it is a minor thing, but since the online tests had a deadline I was stressing about this for so many days that I really needed peace and comfort in the evenings to put a positive spin on the day and to be able to fall asleep eventually. In order to remain calm and avoid more drama, I unfortunately had to pause K-dramas this week. Fortunately reading had a calming effect, so I caught up on the Dramabeans recaps and finished one of my two books this week instead. Nanowrimo is also wrapping up this Saturday, so I hope to catch up on some Pegasus episodes this weekend, since it is already ending next week! :o

Glad the ghosting has a happy ending and hope that you get good news really soon!

And thank you for being my co conspirator- I am proud to say I found 2 new books at a recent library trip and one is a Sherlocks Holmes one, interestingly not by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. So far the stories are fairly intriguing and I’m remembering why I love mystery novels so much.

Here’s to us ending the year on a good note! ❤️

You've just reminded me of a book languishing in my tbr. It is a Sherlock retelling with a woman as Sherlock. A Study in Scarlet Women by Sherry Thomas. I haven't picked up a book in weeks, maybe that will be the one.

Unsatisfactory endings to kdramas - there have been so many lately ... (beware SPOILERS)

Secret Boutique: The leopard changed its spots in the final episode - a bit unbelievable. And after all she had done, the murderess got away relatively scot free (no foaming at the mouth even!). And what was the point of all the years of planning your revenge if you were only going to let it all go at the end of the day? Feel a bit let down by the show albeit nothing still beats...

Vagabond: I should have given up on this show after they escaped from the Korean embassy and descended into even further ridiculousness but I shan’t make the same mistake twice

On the positive side,

Beautiful Love, Wonderful Life: Instead of dragging out secrets until the end, the hero knows! And we are only 1/3rd through the drama. Hurray for great writing/pacing!

Never Twice: Kwak Dong Yeon is comedic gold - whoever casted him is a genius! And Kwak Dong Yeon has found his calling

Happy Friday Beanies! It’s also Black Friday and some of the roads here were so jammed today because it was pouring with rain and it seemed like half the country was trying to cash in on the sales.

I tried to stay far far away and save money. What I can’t see, I can’t buy. 😅😬🤭

Need to get off my ass and finish Nokdu. Debating whether to read the recap and probably never end up watching it, or hold out to watch the episode first..... thoughts?

Hope everyone has a great Friday and week ahead!

Good morning all! I was up until 2 am this am Black Friday shopping and still in bed now. Lol. I usually wouldn’t do such a thing but my in-laws we’re here and there’s an outlet nearby that was open 24 hours from 6 pm last night so we put all the kids to bed and got there at 11 pm. It wasn’t as crazy as I thought because I’m sure half of the people there had kids at home and at least one person had to stay home to take care of them! And there were no kids! Not that I don’t like kids, but it was so much easier without them! No complaints about being tired or hungry or bored! I actually am a night person, so it was quite enjoyable? Coming from someone who hates to shop, I was thinking, this is ingenious!

I’m up to episode 39 of The Untamed and it’s really getting good now! I told one of my colleagues in another state about it (she’s actually Chinese heritage) and she’s already finished it! She and I are really similar—both physicians married to physicians, two kids, and I’ve gotten her sucked into things she normally wouldn’t be. Her husband blames me for all her vices! Ha! And when she does things, it 110% more than what I do! She’s watched kdramas in the past but now, she comes to me for recs. The Untamed was the first cdrama I recommended her. I think she appreciates that I don’t waste her time on mediocrity and me researching what to watch (and watching them myself) leaves her more time with her twin girls who are pretty young still.

We are behind on My Country due to preparing for the holidays and and hosting my husband’s family, but I just hope it ends satisfactorily.

Otherwise, we had a great Thanksgiving here and I hope you all who are US beanies did to and to everyone else, I hope your week was spectacular. I’m also thankful to be published with @strawberry yesterday on the Theme of the month. Our families have a lot to be grateful for!

I just heard NBC in the U.S. is remaking the Korean series SKY Castle under the name 'TriBeCa'. I don't know how closely they'll attempt to mirror the original series. I recall when the CW brought out their series 'Frequency' they swore up and down that it had nothing to do with the very similar 'Signal' from the previous year.

Frequency was not about Signal but a remake of the movie Frequency, except it was not the daughter but a son in the movie.

Hi everyone, I just hopped over here from the "To Share or Not to Share" post, and everyone in the comments there expressed their gratitude for having Dramabeans as a place we can come to to share our love for k-dramas in a smart, kind, and (mostly) sane way.

Combined with the recent post about Dramabeans needing 5,000 subscribers to the $40/month Beaniebox to stay afloat, however, it got me worried: what will we do if Dramabeans shuts down? Where will we go?

I hope this isn't a forbidden topic for discussion, and I hope it doesn't bring anyone's mood down on this (holiday in America) weekend.

This came to my mind after that article too. For many of us Dramabeans is the place I discuss my drama addictions at. There are hardly people in my real life who share the same interests in dramas and drama genres. So it is basically my cozy space where I know I won't be judged and probably will be able to spazz over good shows with good and polite people. Unfortunately DB box isn't available in my region so I can't be helpful right now.

10

Required fields are marked *

The DB box is available in my region, but $40/month is too much. That's $480 a year! Plus I don't need the snacks. :(

Even if I were willing and able to commit to spending that much, could or would that many other Beanies also spend that much? And does this site have 5,000 separate and regular visitors? I guess DB would know that; but it doesn't seem like it from the number of other commenters.

5000 might be a way to show other investors/vendors that DB can double as a store.

Most small businesses with a few full-time employees would love to have $2.4MMUSD in annual revenue.

"5000 might be a way to show other investors/vendors that DB can double as a store." I hadn't even thought of that, but that is true.

"Most small businesses with a few full-time employees would love to have $2.4MMUSD in annual revenue." Right? That's a lot of money!

I have a couple of food allergies, so can't go for the Beanie Box. When the new version of the website debuted, they had a merch site, but that went away pretty quickly. I've mostly worked for non-profits (libraries and a bookstore - not legally a non-profit, but, yeah, it didn't make any money, which is why I went to library school), so I don't know what constraints DB has on ways to get literal buy-in from site users. I'd love to give on Patreon, but don't know if they can use that platform.

Yes, I read that "support" post, too, as well as all the comments on it. The lack of response from DB seems rather strange and impersonal - like intentional corporate opaqueness.
I imagine the invisible corporate overlords are mulling over what to do.

I don't like that ominous feeling. It makes me think of what must have been going on behind the scenes when the corporate decision was made to shut down Dramafever.

I really do want to support Dramabeans! I agreed with some of the alternate ideas Beanies had to support the site. I wish DB would try some alternatives.

If Dramabeans shuts down the most I'm worried is where will I read not only recaps but insights and comments about each episode? Or about the dramas in general, the sharing of opinions and how it feels to find others that feel the same as I do or even when you learn about oppossing opinions that make you understand a different perspective or change your own. Dramabeans community is an extremely respecting community. Even with these different opinions we remain civil towards each other. I don't want to loose that.

Happy Thanksgiving, Beanies who are celebrating this tradition! I hope you spend meaningful time with your families!

We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving here in Czechia but we’ll have St Nicolas Day next week. It is the only one of the old Czech Advent holidays still celebrated today. It is a special time when children receive sweets and small gifts.

On December 5th, the eve of St. Nicholas Day, three figures—kindly St. Nicholas who gives gifts to children, a Devil who comes to take bad children away, and an Angel who pleads on their behalf—form a procession marking the beginning of the Christmas season.

Unlike my Czech friends who sometimes peed themselves when they saw the devil (and I mean the costumes of the devils are gruesome) I never believed they existed when I was a child. As my parents knew nothing about Czech traditions they couldn’t explain them to me well.

Hello Beanies, great weekend to everyone. I need to catch up with this dramas, because I catch up nasty cold and couldn't watch anything, but I catch with some reading and get disappointed with newest instalment of Ava Lee series, it clear that the author has no idea what he is writing about and didn't do any research any more.
Godfrey Gao's death really shocked me, although thinking about working condition on Chinese and Korean film set it's should more shocking that it's not happening on regular basis?

Gao was recovering from a flu. I would think if he and his people asked to producers to join a later episode, producers might be fine with it. However, there is that hard-working no-complaining reputation and mindset that stops people from better taking care of themselves.

Were you able to catch it?

I also watched it live. It felt like I was watching a musical/drama. The individual dances were amazing. I also loved Persona and the dance N.O./Dionysus re-mix. Plus their stylists need a raise.

@lcaro13 agree agree! Also, the edit of the performance during Mikrokosmos felt magical!

There are reports that the producers are thinking about a second season or spin off for PEGASUS MARKET. My initial reaction would be NO. The charm of the show is the complete ensemble cast.

Hello all:
Hoping my fellow americans had a great thanksgiving.

KDramas:

i watched some finales but not all.

Cdramas:
Royal nirvana -- really good but i hear it has a tragic ending. Not sure i'm up for that.
Lingjian Mountain -- funny.
Awaiting subs for Joy of Life, which was written by same writer who did Ever Night.

Jdramas:

Junichi -- Not sure what this drama is trying to say. Few layers to add story texture.
Busu... -- Some happiness in the lives of our couple.
Doki no Sakura: Inspiring, like all those character-centric jdramas about one person fighting the system.
I bought my boyfriend on loan: the weird balance between funny and abusive

Have a great weekend, all.

LingJian is tough to say. Original novel contains much more sarcastic/mean/biting wit/humor/rudeness, much more competent yet self-serving leads, and competent intelligent characters in general.

Drama did the usual dumbing down and mellowing of characters, and drastically turned some character setups into cliches.

I'm more of a purist when it comes to adaptations. Logic, coherence and character intelligence are the most important to me. Decided to pass on the drama.

And things do become more serious later on. A lot of readers are still unhappy about the ending.

0

Don't worry about it. Cdrama producers have no qualms about destroying the original to create an ending that they believe is warranted. Especially given that many readers were unhappy about the original ending.

Even when doing so is unnecessary like in the case of Never Let You Go.

0

Joy of Life might be fine for the most part. The male lead is a good actor with range and rest of the cast seems good enough.

The audio drama's lukewarm reception seems to be due to male lead's having 4 serious love interests. Drama may tinker, or drastically change, male lead's love life. He married 2 as in polygamy. One he couldn't marry because she became king, as in she lived as a man.

Now, current Chinese censors might not like polygamy. So even if the drama wanted to stay true to the original, it couldn't.

It's one thing to feel post series depression but sometimes when the end of my drama feels nearer I already start feeling that void. I guess I become too invested in the characters and wish I could spend more time with them. And I think ' what do I do after this?' already. Sometimes I wish my drama had more than 16 episodes. I always think 'Will something top this?' It probably will but ugh. That's how I am feeling right now. 😢

I'm admitting that I'm suffering from cross race identification bias. Having lived in several countries and worked in a very multi-nation/cultural environment, I thought I'm more intune in capturing the subtle differences from different races. But i was wrong.

I'm trying to watch Untamed seeing how much love it received here but I'm overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of the characters. In the early episodes, most of the characters wear the same uniform. This is magnified by the similar hair do and body type (tall and thin). So except for the main leads, I feel lost knowing who is what. I have the same problem watching sageuk with heavy court politic. I have difficulty differentiating the characters due to the uniform and moustaches (urgh... why so many similar mustache???).

Wonder if anyone has tips on this.

Heheheh! It's not just you. It takes time and practice!!! I always remain in a blur about who's whom and what's going on for ages. Perseverance will pay off, especially if you don't mind re-watching. Also nowadays, there are write-ups, reviews and BTS and all kinds of stuff made by fans to refer to, so one slowly gets to know what's what and get an idea of why things are the way they are. Thanks to @Snickers, I got a low down on what happened in The Untamed web novel (the source) , so that I eventually got to understand the plot better.

Still it took me 2 re-watches to get some stuff straight and a 3rd to appreciate the finer details, clues and expressions for more fun analyses.

MyDramaList has all the modern day photos of the actors, but I guess that does not help much when they are dressed in period costumes with wigs. Still the photos are great to refer to for the names and to try to guess who on earth that is under all that makeup and hair!!! LOL.

I was like that too. For me, I just trusted that Beanies are experts in drama taste and since THE UNTAMED got so much beanie love, it must be good. For the first few episodes I really wasnt paying that much attention because I was quite confused about what’s going on. I just let the episodes play while I do some chores, looking up here and there and suddenly having no idea when, I was fully drawn in by the story and also, after a few episodes, the characters each have their own colored clothing that they like to wear.

Hi Everyone and Happy Weekend! I hope everyone who celebrates it had a great Thanksgiving!

Can't believe that I was so tired I just slept early last night and missed OT!!!

I had a fall last Sunday and was limping for a few days, but thanks to traditional home remedies and because it was not a sprain, but a wrench or pull, I'm about back to normal. Also fortunately I've got an auto car that replaced my ancient manual drive, so driving people around was still an option. Anyway in Thanksgiving, I'm grateful for a relatively quick recovery and a good working car!!! Heh!

Psychopath Diary- I think (very cerebrally for a change) that I'm watching this show to see what show will say about what makes us who we are. Without memories are we 'not ourselves but a cleanish slate' that can be moulded into what an external source tells us is us? I like the twists where lack of memory and knowledge sets our hero on a new path as he behaves differently from the rest. So now another question is raised ... is not knowing some crucial stuff better than knowing everything and being circumscribed that knowledge??? 🙄 😬 😵 🤪

Pegasus Market- I expect the angst to kick in in these last 2 episodes. Now I really wish for 2 episodes back to back!!! I have to wait for a whole week plus 24-36 hours for subs for next week's finale!!! 😖 😳 😩

Catch the Ghost- I'm frustrated with the Ma Ri character that I had wanted to root for but which has been written to be unlikable, petty, cruel,... sigh. There was opportunity for great teamwork and sister-mance ... but no. The romance, catching the baddie and locating little sis is what we're left with for the last few episodes. I hope there's enough to fill 4 full episodes ie without filler!

I'm toying with the idea of watching a short cdrama, Your Fukubukuro ... 12 episodes, English subbed and (I gather) different from the usual slew. Has anyone tried it already? 😃

It’s the end ofNovember, wow! I watched Parasite this week. Scenes etched in my brain. Disturbing. I finished My Country today, Although the ending was expected, it was still a big historical sigh in high drama. I’m glad I watched it. Catching up with Camellia Blooms tonight. And I’ve started The Crown season 1. It’s quite engaging.
Pie for me but no crazy shopping this weekend. take care all!

Greetings beanies! I hope everyone had a happy day, happy week and a happy weekend.

Vagabond ended last week and I miss Shin Sung Rok already. I hope he returns to dramaland soon with a great script and an awesome co-star who is around his age. Hahaha. I don't know why, but I would like to see SSR and Bae Doona in one drama, it could be in a melo or a comedy 😆. I'll watch it.

Hello Beanies...hope all's well...it's unthinkable for me that after continuous months of watching kdramas on daily basis, this week i didn't watch any dramas from monday to friday (due to lack of time/logistical issues) and then finally saturday midnight i had the time to watch few episodes...i also didn't have time to read all the updates on DB, so i'm way behind on all the good stuff you all have updated:-(...i already wish my retirement years (along with enough savings to live on) happens soon, to enjoy watching kdramas:-) LOL wishful thinking i know...anyways, so Vagabond ending...can't believe Netflix did it again...i'll be honest, after decades of watching Tv shows that has seasons after seasons format, when i started Kdramas last year, the continuous/conclusive 12/16/20 episodes attracted me completely...but i guess Netflix thought let's go this route too with kdramas too, i personally don't like it:-(...i hear Kingdom (zombie show) may also have season 3...regarding My Country...i definitely expected this type of ending to happen 80% for Hwi and 100% for Sunho, but still it made me real sad:-(...i'll try to catch on my DB readings, and also catch up on some shows...i got access to 100 days my prince, which i plan to watch, but sadly i know that weekends always pass by too quickly...until again, y'all take care:-)

Grim reaper and sunny reincarnated and paired up again for TOUCH YOUR HEART.
Kangchi and yeo wool did the same for VAGABOND.
I think its time for our Yi Jung and ga eul.

I have come late to the OT, but at least I wanted to say hello to everybody.
I am so busy, I can't watch almost any drama, and 99% of what is airing doesn't catch my attention....

Beanies!! Happy weekend! Me, I am working today Saturday! But it's ok, I like the job! 😅😅😅

After finishing The Untamed and Tale of Nokdu, I'm bored with anything and everything else both old and new, both k-drama and c-drama. Even the explicit scene in HISTORY 3.
Except for the British Baking Show. Maybe that's because I'm off sugar and am tasting the goodies vicariously.
