Happy Lunar New Year, friends!!!

Hyun Bin sent a video wishing his fans a happy lunar new year (on my fanwall, in case anyone is interested!

Other than that, I'm still in the black vortex of Hyun Bin obsession. Anyone else in here with me?

Happy weekend guys ❣️🎉
Who watched the ending of JOY of Life last week with me?
I am sooo upset I haven't watched a single thing since then, that hasn't happened in...never-ever-before.
Sequel comes in 2021...December, but before that, we gotta live, thank God for BTS...I need my boys rn.
What's airing presently that's annoying you?

Happy Friday Beanies!

A daily CLOY spaz with some friends yesterday brought us to the line from episode 9 when Jung-Hyuk said: "One step should be ok". After I'd finished dying all over again, I started thinking about some lines and/or speeches that have stayed with me long after a drama has ended. Here are some of them(in no particular order):

"One step should be ok" ~ Crash Landing On You.
"Whether you’re a man, or an alien… I don’t care anymore" ~ Coffee Prince.
"My wish is that your wishes come true" ~ Moonlight Drawn By Clouds
"Clichés are the best" ~ Extraordinary You.
"The pain may hurt, but it will pass. If you bear it for just a little bit, it will pass by." ~ Healer.
"...going through this life is the first time for all of us anyways." ~ Because this is my first life.
"Take care of your "star pocket". There are moments in life that sparkle. Whenever that happens, save those moments in your star pocket. When you face hard times or you are sad, take a star from that pocket and find the power you need. " ~ Because this is my first life.
"Things will be fine when you turn 30" ~ Be Melodramatic.

So Beanies, what are some of your favorite lines from dramas?

Don't have exact quotes but two great dialogues, more like speeches for me:
-Kang Joo-eun on believing you can endure in a tough situation because it means you haven't reached your limit yet in Oh My Venus, which is her life mantra.
-Hwang Jung-eum's touching words on healing Ji-sung just before their first kiss.

Some great quotes from General Nokdu from Nokdu Flower:

I don’t remember the exact quote but it’s from My name is Kim Sam soon. When Hyun Bin was asked about why he loves Sam soon and he said “ Why do people keep living even when they know they will die” essentially saying that there’s isn’t always a reason behind loving someone. Sometimes you just do even though you know they might break your heart.

This one too! “The body asks the heart, if I am in pain the doctor will cure me, but if you are in pain, who is going to cure you? The heart replies, only I can cure myself. Maybe that’s why, every person has their own way of healing the pain in their hearts. Drinking, singing, throwing a tantrum, crying, laughing, talking to a friend, traveling, running a marathon. The worst thing to do is to ignore the pain in the heart.” – Sam Soon

Not exactly quotes, but some expressions that come up every now and then just touch my heart: "how can you do that to someone's precious child?", "you've lived diligently", "you've lived well"... I love how these ideas are expressed, in my culture they are valued but are not usually verbalised

One of my favorites is from Ae Ra in Fight For My Way. Its a paraphrase so bare with me.
"thats enough. Thats enough. We both know that you're not going to hire me. But you don't get to hurt me. I decide how much Im willing to take. And thats enough."
And then, like the badass that she is, Ae Ra turned and with her head held high, left the interview.

I like so many quotes from Perfume.

Yi Do's mum consoled Yi Do when he was at wits end. It was a great son-mum moment. Some of her words to him:

- If a person doesn't move, life won't bring you anything.
- Life is about enduring it. If you become strong and endure it, one day destiny will take your hand again.

Perfume Ahjusshi said some awesome words to Jaehee.

- All of the choices were made by you. It's not good to blame your fate for everything.
- No matter how you look, are you confident that you'll take care of yourself and love yourself?
- There is no life that is without difficulties. Do not lose your courage. Hang in there and be healthy. As long as you're alive, miracles may come to you. That is life.

There are so many good lines that turn into quotes from so many dramas. It's hard to remember them all but a couple that have stood out for me are these:

ML: "Life, go on by, she'll take a while"
FL: "Time, don't hold on to me, I still have a place to go to"

The above quotes makes no sense taken out of context, maybe. But, for some reason it has stayed with me for a long time. It's from Bottome of the 9th with 2 Outs.

Another one is more recent from Romantic Dr. Teacher Kim 2:

"After passing this long river called life, I have learned that there are moments where we can linger but none where we can stay."

Happy weekend everyone!
(Posted in the last weeks open thread earlier, good job Purpleink!)
Here is some rambling from me, I just need to let it out somewhere.

I met with the doctor today and she was very kind and calm. Not stressed at all as they usually are in my country. Got medicines prescribed to me that she wants me to try even though I'm scared of messing with my head with chemical substances. One is to help me sleep and the other one is to "help me feel less useless". The doctor thinks I'm having depression, but I don't feel depressed, a bit down yes but not depressed. It feels like I don't fit in anywhere and with these medicines they will try to fit me in a mold I know don't belong in. It honestly scares me.

It can be scary to try them but you can always stop if the medicines don’t help you sleep and feel better. I’m a big believer in how much medicines can help, so I wish you the best.

Agree! We all struggle sometimes, and medicines don't change your personality, they just address some symptoms that might be making your life harder. I also find them scary, but I've seen what a difference they can make. And it's always a work in progress... If it doesn't work out for you, you can always try something different. Fighting!

Can you see your doctor again and talk about your concerns? It is ok to ask that before you start taking any kind of medication! Anyway - and I'm saying this without knowing any details of your particular situation - most of the times medication is needed just for a while, to get the chemistry right again (for instance, getting enough sleep can make a world of difference on people's way of thinking)

Depression is often caused by a biochemical imbalance. Getting that balance right can make a huge material difference to people's lives. We need to get rid of the stigma around these types of drugs, they save people's lives.

Having said that, I also don't know what condition Purplepink is being treated for or what kinds of drugs they've been prescribed.

6

Agree with @leetennant, we can't advise you about this over a chat-wall. @purpleink93, if you have concerns about your prescription, you need to talk to a professional. We are here to talk and support you, but you need to look for support in real life too. A friend, a familiar, a helpline, a support group... There are options, and talking helps!

Not being able to sleep well is a real downer. I've struggled at times with insomnia for over twenty years. I too don't want to get addicted to pills, so I do lots of research and try to find organic things to try. I started taking melatonin, because I live in a part of the world that doesn't get very much sunshine in the winter. I also have a bag of lavender I harvested last summer, and I shake the bag up vigorously right before to go to bed so the lavender scent is somewhat strong. I've been more successful at sleeping lately, and feel much more energetic and sharper in my mental processes. Good luck, I sympathize with you.

The balance in chemistry in your brain is more important than you think. You may need the medicine to just go on, just like you just need insulin if you're diabetic. You need balance in your body. And then, once you have found that balance you need to do something else, just like if you're diabetic, you'll avoid certain food, if you've had a muscular problem, you'll go to the physiotherapist, and if you're a bit down, you may need the advices of another type of therapist. Mental health is important and there are many people in the world who thinks that just by saying "cheer up, you'll get over it" it's enough, when it may not be. Don't be scared to look for help, but don't rely only on drugs.

Happy Lunar New Year Beanies!

It's a weekend without new episodes but it's a weekend with family!

The Beanie Rewatch on The Heirs makes me laugh and goodness, that drama was awful!

The only interesting thing that happened this week was that I met up with an ARMY friend who I met in SK last year. We ended up spending 15 hours talking about life, BTS, SVT and just anything under the sun. That was the first time I talked to someone that long but it didn't feel long though. Happy weekend Beanies!

My poor godson has been sick and banned from daycare this week, which means that my parents and I have been his main caregivers the whole week. Our hopes for a quick recovery were dashed by the pediatrician, who diagnosed our poor baby with the early stages of pneumonia. Caregiver duty is thereby extended until next Thursday. On top of that my goddaughter has no school until Tuesday and my parents have to meet with the physiotherapist at the hospital this Monday afternoon to discuss my father’s back treatment. So I am on my own this Monday afternoon with an energetic toddler and her ill baby brother and I do not feel confident about this responsibility at all, despite everyone telling me I am doing great with them. I should take some comfort from that and the fact that there is no other option. This is actually the best scenario we can wish for at the moment, because if he still has a fever tomorrow, he will have to be hospitalized instead. Of course I would babysit by myself all the time if that meant my godchildren would never have to stay at a hospital.

Ironically, I watched more this week than I usually do. To end our days on a positive note my friend and I watched ‘Ouran high school host club’ to laugh and shut off our brain every evening. Fortunately it is only about a dozen twenty minute episodes without any logic.

I have also read contradicting statements about whether ‘No Second Chances’ will be airing tomorrow or not. I actually do hope that they are postponed, because in that case I can catch up on some episodes before February starts next week. I am seriously considering challenging myself to a February movie month, which is not going to work out if I keep getting behind on No Second Chances episodes and watch them haphazardly like I am doing now.

Also, my first attempt at the whole HTML formatting so here's to hoping it worked! Hope y'all are having a fantastic week and getting ready for an even better weekend!

So, here's the thing. There has been a problem that's been nagging at me for some time now, and I decided to do something about it.

I love food (This is not the problem). I love to eat food (don’t we all?). If I could, I would eat anything edible that comes my way however, I am a vegetarian. I was raised as a vegetarian. I have never eaten meat so I don’t miss it, nor have I had the urge to try it. Those of you that decide to give up meat/dairy/any type of food after having been introduced to them, I don’t know how you do it! I don’t know if I could ever go vegan. But I digress. Food. Right. As we all know, pull of Korean food is real. And, if you're a Kdrama watcher (me) the pull get exponentially stronger as you watch people on your screen gobble down amazing looking food.

I have tried to find many Korean restaurants around me that would serve potentially vegetarian food. You know - make the soup with water instead of beef broth , not eat the banchan (nearly everything has fish sauce!), etc. I swear my gluttonous heart would cry every time I realized I couldn’t eat the glorious spread in front of me. So I decided to take matters into my own hand. I searched and researched recipes. I finally found several recipes that will take me as close to authentic food as possible. I will not claim that it’s “real” Korean food but, it’s as close to Korean food as it will get for me.

I finally braved the challenge and made Kimchi along with a few banchan! Please excuse my VERY poor picture taking skills

KIMCHI: Surprisingly easy to make! You just need some patience. I already know what I'll be doing differently next time I make it. Yes, there will be a next time. I've even gotten Mr.SK addicted to it!

Banchan

Soondubu Jiggae to send me straight to heaven

Today I am remaking all of the banchan (I made this last week and we devoured it). We are hosting a couple of people and we'll be making Bibimbap, Ramyon (what I'm MOST excited about) and, Soondubu Jiggae!

Happy New Year! Mine has started some weeks ago, but I'm all for New beginnings 😋
So, this week the stars aligned and I got posted on a place not far from home. This means a shorter commute (on one hand, yay!, on the other hand, less "me time" to listen to kpop and podcasts, buh!), and, more importantly- I can come home for lunch for a luxurious half an hour!
I've found the perfect k-fix for this daily respite: Prison Playbook! The slice of life format without cliffhangers makes it perfect to watch parts of episodes and just turn off by the end of a scene (by 1:30h running time, it's not as if I could binge watch anyway). And it is a great show! Good actors, sweet humor, quirky characters and a setting so foreign to me that just watching how they live their lives is engaging for me (are prisons in Korea really like that?).
From Tuesday to Friday I can come home, relax a bit in jail, and go back to work fully refreshed, it feels dandy! 🕺
So, Beanies, I've had a really nice week! Hope you had one too, and let's all head into a well-deserved weekend full of relaxation and kdrama

Hi there, beanies! It’s a grey world where I am, the sky and the ground are the same color – turn the world upside down and it doesn’t matter – winter blahs.

I was sorry to say goodbye to Please Take Care of My Refrigerator after 5 years. It was a sort of filler show for me, but I usually found it entertaining and I loved the chefs’ efforts to create tasty foods. Speaking of that, Baek Jong-won’s newest show, Delicious Rendezvous, is fun especially with Hee Chul and Kim Dong Jun (who has the cutest facial expressions). Hee Chul is a charmer and has grown on me over the years. Also, he is everywhere these days on Ask Us Anything, Matching Survival 1+1, and My Little Old Boy, but I think he needs a new hairstyle than the yellow mic-chin parted down the middle hair he’s had for a while now. Something that shows off his handsome features better. He’s a keeper though, surviving all these idol years and still going strong without scandal (as they say).

Crash Landing on You is good, I’m sticking with Stove League (although it’s losing it cohesiveness with the internal club value clashes), Black Dog, Romantic doctor Kim 2, and I’m wrapping up my Reply 1988 rewatch with ep 20 tonight. I LOVE this show so much. What will I rewatch next that can fill my K-drama nostalgia-loving heart like Reply does?

All the Parasite accolades are well-deserved and amazing. I feel so happy for the elation that the director, producer and cast are experiencing with their international acclaim. (Maybe rewtaching Pasta is called for?)

Here are the Korean variety shows I typically watch every week: Master in the House (go, team, go! – their cheerleading challenge went well!), My Little Old Boy, The Return of Superman, LoJ, 2D1N season 4 (love the new cast camaraderie), Ask Us Anything (the quality of each episode varies drastically), Delicious Rendezcous (I like the format), The King of Mask Singer (love the participation by so many amazing singers/performers), The Manager (focus on the managers is such a refreshing angle), Jung Hae In’s Travel Log (he was too adorable cruising around NYC and getting doused at Niagara Falls), Humanimal (watch the first 2 eps – it’s just ok), Happy Together (I love the casual conversation with guests), Because I Want to Talk (Dong Wook is a great MC for this type of in-depth talk show); Weekly Idol (it is what it is), Immortal Songs 2 (impressed by the show’s consistent quality), Radio Star (ditto for quality here, too), Love Naggers 3 (I watch through squinted eyes at some of the tangled relationships)’ E-news Exclusive, Battle Trip, and Yu Huiyeol’s Sketchbook.
Yep, that’s a lot of K-entertainment! Makes me happy! ♥

From the Korean Times:
Cable channel tvN's North Korea-themed drama "Crash Landing on You" has been accused of glamorizing the reclusive state, police said Wednesday.

The conservative Christian Liberty Party lodged a complaint with police against tvN on Jan. 9 for allegedly violating the National Security Law. It claims the soap opera ― which is mostly set in a small village in North Korea ― has only depicted North Korean soldiers in a "peaceful" way.

The party released a statement on Jan. 10, insisting South Korean citizens have been "incited" by the TV series that failed to clearly indicate that North Korea is the nation's "main opponent."

"Our security law stipulates we should not sympathize with an anti-government organization that threatens the nation's existence," the statement reads. "We want the instigators to be promptly investigated and punished."

Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency has been reviewing the complaint, but reportedly has not yet launched an investigation.

Since the TV series is based on fiction, many believe the cable channel is unlikely to be punished.

"Fiction-based dramas have rarely been punished for breaking the security law," a police agency official said.

There are issues with CLOY, but that article totally misses the mark. My main problem with it is that shows all the soldiers and town people in spiffy brand new clothes and uniforms. Meanwhile there are many stories out of China about North Koreans stealing food from Chinese farms to take back to the DPRK. I would not say that the show "glamorizes" the North, but it does make it look a lot nicer than it really is.

i wondered, while watching, just HOW the south koreans know how to - or upon what evidence do they - portray the north -- its cities, its housing, its citizens and mainly its military...

are the perceptions/portrayals based upon "witness accounts" or "surveillance photos" (if any) or just stereotype/assumed perspectives by south koreans? it has to be a fictional account of life in the DPRK, right? how can we know what is real or fiction, is my question....

Yep it's a tossup in terms of the order. I was debating whether Stand By Your Man should be on the list since it's not an original song for the show but I never liked that song and now even the first few bars send me screaming.

Eternal Love is not the awful ear worm the others is but it's not a great song and it was badly used in the show.

On the other hand, Eternal Love is pure cheese and would hate it under normal circumstances, but Healer drilled it into my mind attached to Ji Chang Wook's face. Just by remembering the song, I get a Pavlovian reaction to it (no, I don't salivate, but get an endorphine kick, hee)

I agree with waspz. I chuckle when I heard Almost Paradise. But due to recent Heirs posts by beanies, Love is The Moment put me in rage. And I didn't even watch that crazy show!

Stand By Your Man, was played so much that it started to turn my stomach every time I heard the first few notes fall on my ears. I do like, Your Are My Destiny, though. I can't say I like all the song in, Descendants of the Sun. But I did like the second lead couple so much, that any song that played while they're on the screen is bearable.

Hey there!

Dramas:
Kdramas: Am only watching Stove League, Money Game, The Game. I love these dramas. Stove and Money have a quiet realism that feels right. Stove League is totally showing me the ins and outs of baseball, and am loving our weary depressed self-loathing hero. Those tears in the last episode as he held the baby! Wow! The Big Bad in Money Game is on the edge of madness and ouri ahjusshi actor plays him so well. I had to get over the change in his features though. Did he get a facelift? I'm not a fan of romance but i'm hoping for a romance in Money Game. Usually when we have a poor put upon woman with hidden inner strength, she is either a total caricature candy or a touchy nasty overly feisty bitter selfish woman. (Looking at you 99 million woman). But there isn't a lot of self-pitying bitterness or selfishness to our heroine. And she looks normal with a girl-next-door beauty. And as for The Game, Taecyeon has grown up from a kid to a seriously handsome guy. His acting has so improved. Story is pretty typical in many ways but i like it that everything and everyone will all come together to heal some past issue.

Japanese:
Nee, Sensei -- My impatience with this kind of doormat exemplar of Japanese femininity battles against my need to watch a jdrama with a cute male lead.

Chinese dramas:
Joy of Life is finished and i so hope the next season will have the same actors.
Ever Night 2 -- feels cheaper somehow and has less gravitas but i'm in.
Dr Cutie is adorable! The second lead syndrome is hard though. The fated otp consists of a guy who is just stiff, and the second lead is so wonderful. Ah me, i'll have to endure i guess.
Handmaidens united -- silly, old fashioned, romance.

Have a great weekend, all.

miss carole -- one of my favorite quiet Jdramas was Kazoku no Katachi which is about a single woman who has a very busybody mother (very typical for japanese women and their mothers) and a bachelor (tho he's not handsome by kimutaku standards, but was one of SMAP's members)...

i really liked it, but i really love Ueno Juri who is the main woman lead... it's cute, smart and realistic...
i hope you enjoy it.

First World Problem #504

Some sort of computer glitch leaves me unable to download a library ebook that I've had on hold for WEEKS, and which finally came around to me yesterday. I've been trouble-shooting on my end and talking to or emailing tech support of 3 different organizations, but so far no luck. (There are too many organizations involved, and I can access each of them separately but not in the combination that would actually let me do anything useful. Some sort of ISP / backbone interconnect problem??????).

And they hit me with this exactly when I want to read over the weekend because of the Chinese-New-Year-induced kdrama drought. Grrr... 🤬😭😭😭

And yes, it is Problem #504 because "504 Gateway Time-out". Over and over.

With the exception of QUEEN: LOVE AND WAR I basically took the last cycle of dramas off. I wrapped up PSYCHOPATH DIARY. I wanted to watch ROMANTIC DOCTOR TEACHER KIM (20 episodes) before starting RDTK 2. I expect to finish RDTK tonight so suddenly my viewing card looks to be filling up quickly.
Along with Q: L&W and RDTK 2 I anticipate watching THE GAME: TOWARDS ZERO, TELL ME WHAT YOU SAW and I’LL GO TO YOU WHEN THE WEATHER IS NICE hence forth known as NICE WEATHER (until a final title is decided upon). Coming down the line will be Lee Min-ho’s THE KING: ETERNAL MONARCH which according to Wiki will finish production this month.
Unfortunately that means TOUCH will have to be dropped before I even started it. Sorry Lee Tae-hwan.

Happy Lunar New Year to all!

I have a completely random question for all ye kdrama veterans - what do the various Bean levels on DB stand for? I am not at all aspirational, but curious to know the hierarchy and the references. Some are obvious to me (Jang Gu-rae, Sparkly Tracksuit), but many are not. Is there a DB post somewhere that contains an explainer? Thank you in advance.

A few people have posted lists but I'm not sure any of them have explanations. (@greenfields, @sicarius do you have lists?) If you post on the fanwall when you level up and ask about your level, Beanies will usually suggest characters and dramas they represent.

Required fields are marked *

There is an active list on the second from the top wall post on @db-staff's profile.
There used to be an archive of what the levels are but it was removed. Someone who's handle I forget right now, went through an archive website and got screenshots of said archive though. (I cannot currently find my bookmark, if indeed I did bookmark it)

As for the levels themselves... they don't seem to be in a particularly significant hierarchical order in terms of what they are called, but it does get harder to achieve each level as you go up (take it from someone who is the highest tied non minion beanie after @mary).
How you level up is still under much debate and research, but the main contributing factor is commenting on recaps and news threads more than fanwall, and constant activity in general.
However! I don’t think anyone has done a complete definition list of what each level IS.
Let's see, let me go through our current known-to-have-been-achieved list and see what I know and can define. I’ll be back in a moment.

Okay, here is my ROUGH GLOSSARY OF LEVEL UP TERMS
Someone correct me if I’m wrong. Some of them I think have specific drama references, but some I think are general. The specific ones I don’t know as well.
Candy- Every hard working multi job juggling rom com female lead extraordinaire.
Geu Rae- I haven't seen MISAENG but you know what this is so it's fine.
Water Maid- I believe this refers to Musuri ; "Musuri is a Korean term referring to female slaves in charge of odd chores in the court during the Goryeo and Joseon Dynasty of Korea. Their main tasks were miscellaneous works such as drawing water from a well, making a fire in the fireplace or cleaning"- (thank you wikipedia), and I believe that there have been several female leads and or characters in sageuks who are this. What sageuks I do not know. (Perhaps it's a bit like a historical version of the candy character minus the multiple jobs. Someone who has seen more sageuks than I may correct me on this.)
Noble idiot- the bane of my drama watching existence. If this is a proper dictionary though then: a main character who makes a decision to be separated from the other half of their OTP main couple, for a supposedly noble, but ultimately stupid and unnecessary reason that could probably just be avoided if they just talked to each other… often involves an envelope of money from a meddling to be in law. If I had to list every drama this was in I would be here till next Christmas.
Eunuch in drag- the only thing I can think of this referencing is MOONLIGHT DRAWN BY CLOUDS where our female lead disguises herself as a eunuch for a reason I have just forgotten. There might be another drama with this starter plot but I don’t know.
Chaebol’s poor doppelgänger- I believe the main ones this is referring to is MASK (2015) and BRIDE OF THE CENTURY (the one with Hongki).
The Goblin’s underpants- there was a whole bromance joke about the Goblin’s underpants in Goblin. Idk; I didn’t watch GOBLIN.
Wrongly accused fugitive- I feel like this refers to many dramas. Although HEALER comes to mind first, since he’s accused of murder in like episode 4 or something.
Errand boy- I like to pretend this is the Night Courier (again, Healer) drama we never actually got, since Healer is The Errand Boy, but also there are a million dramas with errand boys and girls as the leads or as a job of a Candy lead.
Rooftop Room Dweller- all the dramas where they live in a rooftop house; there are so many I doubt I could list them all. ROOFTOP PRINCE, HUNDRED MILLION STARS, SHUT UP FLOWER BOY BAND, A MOMENT AT 18, SHOPPING KING LOUIS etc.
Loanshark with a Heart of Gold- I haven’t seen any of these (fully) but I know this because I asked the q about what dramas had this when I levelled up: NEIGHBORHOOD LAWYER JO DEUL GO, LIAR GAME, DREAM HIGH, MISS KOREA, REUNITED WORLDS.
Entertainer-in-training- I guess anything...

3

Entertainer-in-training- I guess anything that has a kpop or acting or singing sub or main plot… which is a lot of things, again. DREAM HIGH, TROT SINGERS, TLAHL?
Fan Club President- the main ones that spring to mind are REPLY 1997 and HER PRIVATE LYFE’s main female characters. I don’t know any others off the top of my head. Seeing as these levels were made almost 3 years ago however, I would think it mainly refers to the former (and any other older example).
Unemployed Slacker in a Sparkly Tracksuit- You know that one apparently but do I… I guess this is in a lot of things. The only thing I can personally think of (other than this being both my level and myself if it weren’t too hot for a tracksuit right now) is SHOPPING KING LOUIS though hahaha
Contract Girlfriend- MARRIAGE NOT DATING. BRIDE OF THE CENTURY. Perhaps BTLIOF would fall under this but that was a contract marriage lol. Her Private Lyfe… there could be another classic drama this refers to, I don’t know.
CEO’s Overworked Secretary- Every secretary ever? Every secretary drama ever? Secret Lyfe of My Secretary, What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim… Introverted Boss? Wasn’t the sister a secretary? And again, if there’s some classic drama this refers to, I don’t know it sorry.
Top Star’s Underappreciated Girlfriend- Does this refer explicitly to TOP STAR YOO BAEK or something else?
Top Star’s Underappreciated Manager- See above. Although I feel like this could just be many a top stars manager.

I will just leave it at this for now, being the highest level an active account has reached, and perhaps work on a greater glossary some other day (since there are A LOT OF LEVELS).

Hyun-bin and his “one of a kind” sparkly track suit that impressed precisely no one!

I think Fan Club President refers to the main FL in Man to Man, the PHJ K-drama, which would fit the time line for when the levels were borne.

Mmmm Man to Man aired on April 21st. The new site was launched on April the 7th/8th I think.
I was under the impression that they made all the levels about dramas that had aired prior to that date (Seeing as how the final level is Rebel who Stole the People which aired in Jan 2017)

4

April 2017 that is ^

4

Well, I’m mistaken then! I knew it was close!

1

I will add it to the list anyway though since she is indeed a fanclub president!!! :)

Whoa @sicarius This is exactly what I was looking for. I am very impressed. Please do store this for future reference somewhere. Thank you to all of you for sharing the various levels, as well. Based on my very limited portfolio, my association for Unemployed Slacker in Sparkly Tracksuit was dimpled Hyun Bin in SECRET GARDEN; and DREAM HIGH for Loan Shark with a Heart of Gold. Rooftop Room Dweller - BEAUTIFUL GONG SHIM (but like you said, there are probably dozens)? Top Star’s Underappreciated Manager - I thought of BE MELODRAMATIC (although I doubt if the character is considered a top star?).

It has been a stressful 24 hours, beanies.
And those 24 hours have SUCKED.
So, I have been listening to Michelle Obama's book, Becoming. The beginning, hearing about her father being diagnosed with MS was hard for me, especially this time of year so close to the anniversary of my moms own death. But, last night I reached the point in Michelle's life were her father passed away. I was sitting in the drivers seat crossing and uncrossing my legs because by goll I had to pee but I didn't want to start the day on Friday listening to how he died. So I shifted around in my seat and cried my eyes out. Michelle narrates the book herself and she gets choked up reading this part of the book. Goodness it hurt. But listening I realized that its been 10 days since I spoke to my own dad and after hearing
"life is short"
"you never know"
I decided to call my dad as soon as I finished in the bathroom. And I did. But the call didn't go through. He's a personable fellow so I assumed that he was on the phone. I tried again an hour later. And then an hour after that. All three times the phone never rang, my phone would finish dialing-reach to make the connection-and drop the call.
I was worried, but not maniac. I decided to listen to my messages, just in case.
Here's a thing about me: I HATE TALKING ON THE PHONE. For a time my outgoing vm message was, "Im not going to answer your call. Im not going to listen to your voicemail. You can leave one if you want, but Im not going to. If you ACTUALLY want me to get back to you send a text, email, heck send me a fax." So, VMs tend to build up and once every few months I go through and delete all the messages because I get sick of looking at that voicemail signal on my homescreen. So, imagine my surprise when I have 3 voicemails from my uncle.
Message 1: hey [isa] its your Unc. Looking for your daddy, give me a call!
Message 2: hey [isa] still looking for your daddy, whens the last time you talked to him?
Message 3: [Isa]. I am calling to tell you that NO ONE has seen or heard from your father. He is officially MIA. Im telling you again, your father is missing.
What
The
French toast?
For wahtever reason none of these messages are date or time stamped so I have NO IDEA when these messages were left. In Novemeber my dad spent 3 days with me in OH. My aunt called to tell me that he was missing then. Were these messages left during this time? What the heck is going on here?
I text my brother who doesn't text me back--but its almost midnight and he gets up at 5 to go to work. It seems pointless to call him in the middle of the night, its not like he can DO anything. I spend the next 3 or 4 hours trying to decide what to do. I can drive down to KY but its storming outside, its 2.5 hours away and I have to be at work at 10 in the morning. I send a fb message to my little cousin to get the phone numbers of her dad and our other uncle and finally settle down and go to sleep. 3...

I send a fb message to my little cousin to get the phone numbers of her dad and our other uncle and finally settle down and go to sleep. 3 hours later I wake up to my brother texting me, "Oh, dads fine. His phone must be disconnected or something. I just spoke to him yesterday or the day before."
So....you're telling me that STILL no one has heard from him for 2-3 days. What do you need to get a cop to go and do a welfare check?
I decide to go to work and call my uncle. Depending on what my uncle says I may or may not go track down dad after work.
My uncle takes the morning off work to go and search for my dad. At 1 oclock he calls to tell me that he's just missed my dad. My dad went to work (he doesnt work on Fridays) and his boss and friends just saw him. He's fine.
His phone still doesn't work. Is it disconnected? Did he forget to hang it up (thats an ongoing problem with him, he'll think he slotted his cordless back in the base when its on the base but not connected, or he flat out forgot to click it off)
He used to have a cell phone but he keeps losing and/or breaking them.
He used to have a life alert but it was dropped from his medical plan, he only just got it back on his medical plan but they are having trouble getting him signed up. He doesnt remember his password for his account and they cant or wont make him a new account and for whatever reason the password recovery isnt working.
So, I'm sitting here. 24 hours later, horrible cramps, bloated, and still. freaking. sick and all I want to do is go to sleep but trying to decide if I need to drive down there and buy him a cell phone that I will add to my monthly bill so that he wont have to think about it, and I wont worry.
Oh, and a 12 year old bough a gun into my library yesterday and threatened to shoot another child.
I. Am. OVER. This. Week.

It was a mess. No character was likeable. I ffwd half or more of it. Zoned out several times. Slept several times. Gif-ing made it fun. Discussing on the wall and recaps made the drama a tad bit bearable. All in all. I survived. I didn't expect my first completed drama watch of 2020 would be a 2013 drama 🤣.

I know that some of SK's main television networks have fiscal deficit issues, but I find it odd that MBC has joined KBS in killing off its weekly entertainment program. Section TV has been cancelled after 20 years. Entertainment Weekly was canceled at the end of last year. I wonder why these popular shows got cut unless agencies and celebrities want to totally control their message through their own social media accounts. I liked their interviews because they were more open and engaging than stale press conference questions and answers.

How can I make myself stop worrying about my dad? I want to kick him right in his stupid shin!
He has decided to cut the cable cord and stream. So, he cancelled his cable service and signed up for an internet only service. COMPLETELY FORGETTING (according to him by way of my Uncle who spent Friday and Sunday morning searching for him because no one had seen him accept for his boss) that his old cable company was also who is his telephone service was through. So he has no phone. He has no cell phone. But he has the internet. But its ok. He started yet another new email address. Because he forgot his password for the old one and DIDNT HAVE A PHONE to do the password recovery. Effectively making him UNREACHABLE.
I need to not worry about him anymore because hes going to kill me.

so the week just started and im like super tired already but i just wanted to rant about some dramas.
So i started The game: towards zero and like its giving me 'he is psychometric' vibes with the whole police woman and guy who can see other peoples lives thing. But i mean the premise is different this one is more mature so i just want to see how it grows.
loving CLOY rn, cannot wait for the new episodes. and as a med student totes approve of Dr. Romantic, teacher kim, its super medically accurate (compared to others and as much as a drama can be) and just makes me fall in love with the characters and reminds me why i want to be a doctor all over again.
anyhow that was my rant. looking forward to more well thought out fantasy dramas (like hotel del luna) and maybe nicer high school dramas (like class of lies and moment at eighteen) this year :))

Finally able to watch Her Private Life. A few eps from the finale and the idol's mother show up. Not gonna spoil it for you if you haven't watched it, but let me just say I'm quite disturbed by her face. Someone should step in and tell this actor not to overdo the cosmetic enhancements. Her botoxed lips are kinda distracting.

Also watching Dr. Romantic 2 and to be honest, I'm not very convinced by the romantic side story of our two doctors. They're okay, but they don't quite have the crackling chemistry of the original pair in Season 1. Even the intern-nurse pairing has more flavor. It's probably for the best so we can focus on the main medical/hospital politics drama. It has been riveting so far.
