Happy weekend Beanies!
I am cheating, this post was written a few days in advance because I am busy today. 😆

The day starts with an important government job exam until noon, and thoroughly cleaning my room in the afternoon or evening, because my friend is staying at my place this weekend. A mutual friend is performing a musical with her theatre group this weekend, so we are going to watch her play with our friend group and go for drinks together afterwards. The play itself has some nostalgia that I will enjoy, but most of all I look forward to a little escape and a nice chat with my friends. 🎭

My goddaughter spend the whole spring break week at our place. Activities included making waffles and banishing godmother Turtie from the kitchen, stealing waffles from godmother Turtie, tattling on godmother Turtie to the parents, sibling spats with baby brother, teaming up with him 5 minutes later against godmother Turtie, and playing by herself only when godmother Turtie was too far away to tease 😂

Last weekend my weekend plans got postponed last minute, so I turned to my heavily date dependant checklist…and found nothing I could work on that particular weekend. It was a bit unsettling to realize how wired I am to try and be productive at all times. I had my first No Second Chances marathon Sunday and even had time to watch a movie on Saturday, sprinkled with a few Coffee Prince episodes in between. Movies are my personal epitome of downtime, and yet I always press play on K-dramas instead, and they take much longer to finish! 😄 Needless to say only half of my brain was enjoying the movie, while the other half remarked how weird it felt to be not busy for once and that I really should relax with movies more often.

It is very tempting to swap K-dramas for movies at the moment. I am dragging myself to finish No Second Chances in order to finally start on 2020 dramas, the 2020 supply is not that great yet, the few dramas that caught my attention require a better mood to appreciate them, and I will probably be too busy with job exams for a few weeks to watch or read recaps anyway. 📚✏️💻

I’ve written things in advance as well! Although, not today, although I should have! I think the 2020 dramas have not been bad, actually. I enjoyed both Hyun Bin’s and Han Syuk Kyu’s latest offerings, and looking forward to Hospital Playlist. Currently watching HiByeMama and sampling’s of older ones I didn’t get to see last year! And have fun with your friends!

Covid is going strong.
If you can't keep basic levels of hygiene then problems gonna occur for everyone. Last week i talked about how an employee having cold didn't care about wearing gloves or mask. In normal circumstances no one cares about such things except a bit paranoid identities like me.

But covid virus becomes silent campaigner of ppl like us who wish to see better conditions without become accused as ppl who discriminate with others.

normal - avg. day-to-day life -

What if your family member or loved ones or the ppl you care about has cold? you won't go near/avoid them? if not then it should be same with an stranger too.

Covid - not so normal circumstances - Would your behaviour change? toward others?

Human history is my favourite subject - One of the main thing i've learned from it is value of clarity of mind.
Confusion leads to indecion which leads to late response to noresponse at all and then things crumble. That's what went down for kings and that's what goes for governments.
What for XI?

XI,Duterte, modi, putin, bolsonaro, ex-ussr states pres. all revel in state sponsored violence. As said several months ago better have an idiot at top position than having a vile one. You hate them but your hatred is what makes u same as them.

The ones who enjoyed and still enjoying the luxuries of capitalism showing hatred towards it. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

Interesting video here on the total lack of hygiene and sanitation in China. Hospital restrooms don't even have soap...

Can we please not link an extremely infectious viral agent with racist imagery about being dirty, please?

Covid19 spreads because it's asymptomatic for almost two weeks while being highly contagious with a low mortality rate. It's essentially a bad cold (okay a very bad cold). Everybody will get it. Most of them won't die. And while basic hygiene is always important and washing your hands will help stop the spread of any illness, most people you get it from won't have any symptoms at all - they certainly won't be in a hospital and they won't be from China.

So a Chinese girl talking about the poor sanitation in China is racist?

2

Required fields are marked *

I think broad generalization is problematic. Some places in China are cleaner than other places. Some people are more hygienic than others. Similar to the contrasting certain parts of a large US city.

As for hospital bathroom lacking soap, unless the girl documented the situation in every bathroom in every hospital in China, we cannot say whether it is widespread, specific to that particular hospital, or due to the current circumstances.

As a former American Red Cross office volunteer, my experience with Hurricanes Katrina and Rita as well as local flooding has taught me: Anyone, including educated professionals, can "forget" hygiene, sanitation, or even picking up after themselves, when lots of them are crammed together, stressed out, and overwhelmed.

Because our office never had so many temporary staff, we ran out of soap, paper towels, toilet papers, trash bags... We couldn't order the supplies fast enough. All trash cans overflowed. And, nightly janitorial cleaning would be more than undone before noon the next day.

7

Thanks for the link. It's an important reminder about the need to be conscious of cleanliness, to prevent contamination to yourself and others. We all can do better.

My friend got sick just outside of Hong Kong thus in China so had to go to a hospital there. She is a frequent traveller to China and Hong Kong so she has been to hospitals there but never been to a normal ward or regular hospitals. She has heard many bad things about those wards /hospitals and such so she always stayed away from it and went to the best hospital around the area where she stays. But this time she braved herself to use a normal ward in a hospital. During the visit, she caught a moment either a doc or nurse dropped a needle on floor for an injection and the doc or nurse picked it up from the floor with a nonchalant face without discarding it and about to place it on ! She stopped it being used on her just in time. This story is not a prejudice but a fact.
Every government has to implement a policy of hygiene in hospitals. Doc and Nurses have to use sanitary gels every time they enter into a new room and use masks. Every room needs to be cleaned spotless. Without this rule and discipline, any disease can widely be spread.

I was out today for 2 different meetings. The second had two participants with coughs and runny noses. I didn't say anything, but I did not shake hands, and used hand sanitizer while participating. Especially at this time, we should stay home if we are sick.

Hey all I hope you've been well. I haven't been to the site very much for a while. I found my interest in KDramas really waning. It used to be everything seemed good and the more I watched the more critical I got. Most shows I've tried have not held my interest very well and rather than force myself I've just found other things to entertain myself with. I dropped my Viki subscription because I found that I was viewing so little the option to watch with ads was sufficient. The last drama I watched was My Holo Love which I liked a lot and finished off in the release weekend. The cast was good and it didn't bog down too much. I will still pop in from time to time but in the meantime take care all!!

I'm not well this weekend but my local restaurant delivers congee. So I ordered some in last night and now I have mushroom congee to look forward to today. I should have realised my tiredness and headache was due to an infection rather than being rundown. My desire to eat only soup and congee is better than any other diagnostic instrument.

Happy Friday to all the Beanies!

For those of you who are ill, I hope you feel better soon! For those who are overwhelmed, it's the weekend, so you can hopefully breathe for a spell.

Since CLOY has finished, I'm looking for a new drama to keep me occupied. I am interested in Hyena and Hi Bye, Mama, but I'll meet you on a beautiful day seems more what I'm looking for.... but I don't think it's on Netflix or Viki. Any suggestions?

Other than that, I'm behind on my PhD thesis (what's new). I'm a bit stressed about that, especially since I seem to lose several days every month to you-know-who-visitor. So annoying.

I'm still hopelessly in love with Bingley, but no movement on that end. I'm actually kind of glad. Whenever he messages me, he turns my world upside down. It's nice to be calm for a while. I catch myself daydreaming about him still, but it's less now.

I hope you guys have a lovely weekend! It's rainy and windy where I am, but such is 16th century tower living. ❤️

As the new coronavirus makes its appearance around the world with no sign of waning, may all of you find yourselves safe and in good health.

So I keep on hearing there are 13 new dramas beginning in March! I need more hours in my day!! More hours!! ..... I hope all of you find something that you thoroughly enjoy among all the new shows.

I've just begun I'll Find You on a Beautiful Day and I have one more episode to watch of Stove League. Also still watching Forest because watching it makes the recap comments just that much more fun!

I watched fewer kdramas than usual this week, partly because I'm spending more time on news websites. Face it, the news recently has more drama than most dramas, and it's (sadly) faster paced and less predictable.

i WISH i had a ton of dramas to watch instead of listening to the news stations day and night -- most infuriating is when Trump takes up air time spewing nonsense.

the prospect of having to suffer for 4 more years under his administration is probably more than or equally terrifying as COVID-19. having to stomach the tanking stock exchange is exhausting to (me) retired citizens...

Hi open threaders! I have a couple minutes to pop in today. We are still in the midst of a pretty relentless flu season in the US. Everyone is worried about COVID-19, but the seasonal flu has already killed over 15,000 people in the US and infected over 7 million. Crazy. I’m thinking that COVID-19 will be similar to the seasonal flu when things are said and done, and have a relatively high mortality rate compared to like, the common cold, but probably similar to the seasonal flu strains. It’ll be interesting to see if flu cases decrease because of all the extra precautions that people are taking for COVID-19. And I’m still giving flu shots to people this week, probably more than I normally would this late in the season because people kind of see the importance of it now. Trust a pandemic (not there yet) to get people panicked enough to get vaccinated. (Can you see how hard I’m rolling my eyes?)

Many of the patients that are sick do not see me when they are and will miss there follow up appointments. Which is good for me and my immunosuppressed patients. We have a pretty healthy waiting room.
Which means I’ve had a bit more time to watch dramas this week. I finished both CLOY and RTDK2, and started Hi, Bye, Mama! I really liked everything I’ve watched this week. RTDK2 finished strongly, and I think a season 3 is probably ahead. High ratings (>27%) for the last episode doesn’t hurt! And I knew I would like Hi, Bye, Mama the second it started. I’ve seen or will be planning on seeing more “medical” dramas this year than I have ever. I didn’t realize the ML in HBM was a CT surgeon when I started though. HBM has a contemplative tone, talks about discrimination and prejudice towards children of single parents, or parents who have died, that I’ve never encountered. It’s really quite sad. But it does speak to that Asian idea that your lot in life is due to your “goodness” or “badness.” If bad things happen, then you must be bad. RTDK2 also spoke about this when one of its characters doesn’t want his severed leg reattached because he just was going to accept being an amputee would be his lot and fate in life. Dr. Kim had more than a few things to say about this though. The Western idea of you are what you make of yourself is quite foreign (in a literal and figurative sense) in the East, but it is changing, thank goodness. It takes strength and determination to change your fate, and I think these two shows are great examples of that “fated” mindset changing.

So I teased that I would talk about Gong Yoo this OT from my fan wall. Discord Beanies already know, but I had a crazy dream earlier this week and am here to spill the juicy details.

Dream sequence starting—fuzzy, unfocussed clouds are surrounding your peripheral vision, suddenly becoming clearer as we focus on our protagonist, me…

...doors, and they are to the side of the condominiums, into a restaurant decorated with a lodge-type feel. It’s always busy, because I went through this restaurant at least 3 times in the dream. There’s a large bar with wood paneling to the top of the ceiling at the front of the restaurant. Everyone is strangely Asian. (I say strangely, because I’m never seeing a majority Asian population anywhere I go in real life—which is what should have tipped me off that I was dreaming in the first place. However, I’m totally enjoying myself in this dream.) After walking past the bar to the left there is a door that goes into the hotel/condominium area. We’d been here before as well (in the dream) because this time was about the 3rd time in my memory. They knew us and the reception area looked to the elevator attendant and 13th floor butler, Lee Dong Wook, to show us to our condo on the 13th floor. (I’m sure there is something special or symbolic about why I dreamed it was the 13th floor, but I can’t figure out why at this point—unless it has to do with LDW’s turn as a psychopath dentist in Hell is Other People which I never saw. We knew LDW as well and he was just as stunning (or more so even) in real life (dream life?) as he is on television and magazines. So, my husband (in real life) has an issue with lagging behind me when I go anywhere and this is what happened in the dream. He wanted to do something and so I went up with Lee Dong Wook on my own to the 13th floor. There, at the VIP reception area, there was a club attached and we went the club together (you know, until my husband was through doing whatever he was doing). I remember seeing his name tag and thinking, hmm, he’s really LDW, it says so on his name tag. And then I made up some story in my head that he must do this gig part time from his acting. So we go into the club and sit down. And this is where it gets PG-13. Because all these people recognize him and start taking our picture. He has his arm around me and we are like, a couple. (I’ve seemingly forgotten the fact that I’m married with 2 kids, and they’re all just downstairs in the lobby.) I talk to him and say “Dep trai, qua!” which in Vietnamese, means very handsome boy, teasing him that all the people taking our picture are only doing so because of him. And he says, also in Vietnamese, “Ai cung noi vai.” Which means, everyone says that. Then he kisses, but not just kisses, but out of the blue, licks the inside of my mouth. Yes, I dreamt that. And so, what’s a girl to do when an attractive Korean actor/butler starts making out with her? I remember thinking, “So, we’re doing this? OK, bring it on. THIS is how you kiss somebody. Watch and learn all you Asian girls gawking and staring and taking my picture.” Sure, it was a bit voyeuristic, but very hot. (I do like when my dreams can go there sometimes. It was so real, that I asked my husband the following morning if he tried to wake me up by kissing me—of,...

...course, he denies it.) Then out of the corner of my eye, who should I see but Gong Yoo, with his own, old-fashioned 35 mm camera out of the 1970’s, leather case and everything. Again, taking our picture, sitting right in front of us. He didn’t say anything. And I thought, “This isn’t weird, they’re best friends.” So then I finally think that proof of what is happening to me should occur, so I ask a random-jealous-stranger-girl to take a picture of us with my phone, and she runs off with it, but I don’t realize it until afterwards when I’m at the security desk with my husband now, reporting a missing phone. They show me a purse and a sock and all kinds of random other things, and it becomes very tedious, so I wake up since I’m not making out with anyone anymore.

Moral of the Story: A dream that I would never dream if not for kdramas.

2nd Moral: Wash your hands, stay away from sick people, and don’t touch your face ever if you don’t want to get sick (with flu, COVID-19, or anything else).

3rd Moral: Have a wonderful week Beanies and stay well!

I had a dream the same night as Ally's whereby I was at a work function to be introduced to people as the team witch.

It was like every work function. I was kind of bored and felt a need to cast a bunch of cheap spells just to impress people even though I'd rather be at home. And then I had to take them to the lacklustre buffet and the food was ordinary and the plates weren't clean.

It was the most mundane supernatural dream ever.

there is no drama on going that could forget me about cloy's ending. Itaewon Class, Hi Bye Mama just watch 1st episode and drop it because its too depressing for me, dont watch Forest and Money Game. The Cursed is too idk its closer to crime rather than horror and thriller. the most interesting for me just The Game: Towards Zero and Tell Me What You Saw. i just... watch it.

Availability Update. Good news.
Eric Mun and Go Won-hee's new drama (from little Channel A) YOOBYEOLNA! CHEF MOON has been picked up by Viki and will air under the title:
ECCENTRIC! CHEF MOON.
https://www.viki.com/tv/36998c-eccentric-chef-moon?locale=en

Episode one is scheduled to air on 6 March but it is unclear to me on the Viki link when the first episode will be available subbed.
Interesting that ECM (for now) is not on Viki's "Coming Soon" list but the list does carry OCN's 12 episoder TEAM BULLDOG: OFF-DUTY INVESTIGATION which is scheduled to air episode one on 4 April.

Real life is kicking my ass at the moment.

In some ways it's good: I'm super busy at work and making a bit more money too. I'm doing a subject at Uni this year and that starts soon.

In other ways it's not so good: my reproductive system continues to torture me despite me ripping most of it out a few years ago. I have some kind of low-level virus that I'm just too busy to stop and deal with right now.

So my 'hiatus' starts next week, which is not really a hiatus but just me backing away bit from db and discord and dramas, mostly because I'm not going to have any time.

I will hopefully do something for Music March though, which I'm excited about (see my fan wall for details!) and will watch at least one drama at any one time.

I wish to stress, however, that I have no expectations for YSH's upcoming drama. NONE. *shakes head* None. At. All.

One of my favorite tv shows is Ally McBeal (except for that horrible final season. Not even Christina Ricci could save it).
I loved it because Ally and all of the young lawyers at Cage and Fish made being weird seem normal. One of my favorite exchanges in the show is between Ally and Georgia. A bit of backstory: Ally had dated her exboyfriend all through high school and college. She even followed him to law school. During their last year of school Greg (the ex) leaves their law program for a different program. Ally and Greg break up and don't see or speak to each other again until years later. Ally is hired at a law firm and surprise--Greg works there! Bigger surprise, so does his wife! The wife that he met his last year of law school. The wife that he left his longterm girlfriend (Ally) to pursue.
So, Ally is having a problem and Georgia (the wife) asks Ally why her problems are so much bigger than everyone elses. Ally glares at her and says, "[Because] they're mine".
I have always loved this exchange for a variety of reasons. As the star of the show, Ally's problems ARE always bigger than everyone elses. But in a real sense, we're all "the star" of our own lives so our problems are bigger than everyone elses. And selfishly speaking, isn't it true that most people would consider their own problems more important than someone elses problems that dont affect them at all?
I was thinking about this today.
I took a minivacation from the library (literally just took two days in a row off, so that I could have a 4 day weekend). Coincidentally the night of my minivacation is right before the Eric Nam concert.
First day of my minivacay--sick as a dog. Laid up in bed coughing up a lung
Second day of my minivacay--I did about 2 hours of work that I hadn't had time to finish before I left. I still feel under the weather, I dropped a full 2 liter of soda and spilled it all over myself, my pajamas and couch. I had stripped my bed of the linens because I need to go and do laundry and now I dont have any of the good pjs (thanks 2 liter) and no blankets.
Tomorrow--doesn't feel like its going to be any better. My car is completely dead so instead of going to do laundry I'm stuck at home. I had been planning on finally getting out to explore my new(ish) city.
The day after that--Sunday, I'm going to have to ask someone to either give me a ride to church, and jump my car (hopefully the only thing thats wrong with it) and take the car to an appointment to get fixed on Tuesday.
I had been hoping to double what I put into savings with this check and pay off a bill. Now, who knows?

This feel like a lot of crap going on all at once. But, does it feel like a lot because they are all my problems? Is it a normal amount of life stuff and Im exaggerating?
What say you, beanies?
Either way, "they're mine".

Billy the ex's name is Billy. Not Greg. I don't know who the heck Greg is. Get outta my head, Greg!

I don't think it's an exaggeration. When stuff starts happening especially one after the other, it's overwhelming. The small stuff seems bigger and the big stuff feels like it's going to suffocate you aaaand this is turning dark. Anyway, all that to say no, you're not exaggerating.

Sometimes life stuff just does seem to pile on. I don’t know if it’s because you start noticing it more once some things start going wrong or just random timing , but it’s no fun.

Hope your car is an easy fix and you’re feeling better soon!

I've been having some health issues since 2020 began. Nothing really important (a virus, my back, some sickness), nothing too big. But my migraines are getting more and more frequent. Now it seems I'm having a crisis every 7 or 10 days. My migraines are not really invalidating, because they're not: I can go to work (although at some point I lose my capacity to pay attention and it's complicated to focus), I can watch a movie, I can read... but at the end of the day I am exhausted.
My crisis can last up to three days, and with the new medication they can even be only one or two days, but it is quite strong so I'm knocked out for the day.
So in the end I am so tired, either because I'm suffering from the pain, or because the meds made it disappear but I feel like a zombie for half of the day.I
I'd love to spend more than two weeks without one of those crisis. I'm sick of feeling sick...

Thank you. They are not really a big thing, and I don't want to complain, it's just this feeling of being always tired.

That sucks man. I wonder why it's gotten worse since 2020 started? I hope there's a solution :/

I visited my neurologist last week, and she told me that it may not be that they are getting worse, but because I retook y "migraine calendar" (taking note of every crisis and details), I might have realized that they are much closer in time than I thought as we always tend to forget about pain. I retook my calendar in late October because she told me to. Our brain is really tricky.

I am sorry to hear that. i can suggest to find an osteopath doctor who learned a method that James Jealous teaches.
https://www.jamesjealous.com/
Sometimes modern medical practice fails to cure those symptons and if that were the case, I would try osteopathy. The practitioners are worldwide.

I've visited an ostheopath when I had troubles with my back (I have a severe trapezius contracture) and he helped me a lot with the pain (after suffering my deal with him!!). He once told me my migraines might be related to my back issues.
You've just reminded me that. I may go back and visit him again. Thanks for the reminder!

I hear you. I'm glad that you are seeing a doctor about this (or so I assume since you mention medication). I hope that you can find permanent relief as well.

Thanks so much.
I take care of myself, believe me. We only have one body and this one must last at least 80 years more :-)

These days I only watched Money Game and Itaewon Class. Money Game is not about romance it is about the government vs private investment companies( occasionally they are on same page)to control banks and important companies in Korea and it involves currency manipulation etc which is maybe a reason that this drama does not get high ratings. But I find it interesting because it may seem far fetched but it is not. Many guys in banking industries died with mysterious reasons lately and currency manipulation, interest manipulation etc etc done by corporations and governments are apparent. In a way, I see this drama a slice of our society.

I would like to see Eugene Han redeemed and want him end with Lee Hae Joon. But I guess I am in minority group for that!. Unfortunately, from Eps 15 preview, his chance of redemption is unlikely. I watched til Epd 14 so far and I must say it is a bit shock to find someone so mundane and not in the main cast turn out to be a bad guy and held some important information hidden for so long.

hey beaniessssss
so i'm just going to get right into my thoughts on the current dramas cuz if i start ranting about my life i dont think ill stop.
Blue Moon/ xx: literally the best drama running right now, and might even be my favourite drama of 2020 so far?? its just so good. The character development, the acting the conflict resolution, not to mention the aesthetic of the entire thing. its so sad that it only has one episode a week but i love it.
Hi Bye Mama: so this just premeired this week, but i'm excited for it. i'm intruiged to see where it goes. just preparing myself for a bunch of sad stories and maybe a not so happy ever after cuz we know how most slice of life dramas end.
Itaewon class: so i like this drama. it has a new plotline thats kind of not really been done in he kdrama world. and the characters are amazing and really unique and new. i love the story, but am i the only one thats not really rooting for jo yi seo (kim da mi) ?? i dont really like her, but i mean still like the drama and mostly watching this for the side characters anyway.
When the weather is nice: this also premeired this week, and i mean the plot line isnt completely new or anything but its cute. I just dont see how this is going to develop to be anything super interesting but who knows, its still early days
so those are all the dramas i'm watching right now. shout out to romantic dr. teacher kim 2 . i loved it loved it and it has my entire heart. (im biased as a medical student) but the drama was incredible and i totally see myself ranking it as one of the best dramas of 2020
still looking for comedy dramas so lmk what you guys think of these and any others i should watch
have a good weekend beanies :))

I agree with your opinion on the above mentioned dramas. If you are interested in comedy, I'd suggest comedy thriller Psychopath Diary. Not extremely amazing but its funny and interesting.

With the popularity of Korean entertainment, I do not understand why networks continue to cancel their entertainment news programs. This weekend, Arirang TV canceled ShowBiz Korea, an international English language program. It ran for 16 years. It even took the hosts by surprise by the cancellation.

Hi guys. Recently I completed the drama the light in your eyes. Had me bawling like a kid after many years. And I especially liked the scenes between the leads when they meet each other for the first time. They had sparks flying from the get go. I wish there was another drama where they continued the story developing the relationship between the two. I mean I know we have 2 story lines in the present and the past. But they just left me wanting more. Can anyone recommend any dramas where the leads are attracted from the first sight not necessarily love at first time and continue flirting with each other especially with an undercurrent of sadness. Sorry if I don't make any sense. Any recommendations?

yes I have seen it. Very nuanced drama I'd say. Han Ji-min excelled and very surprisingly Nam Joo-hyuk was too amazing as well especially in the past part of drama
