A Couple’s World: Episodes 9-10 Open Thread

Betrayal, doubt, and obsession are our keywords this week, and an important question gets put on the table: what emotions are left between our divorced couple? It’s a question we dig into this week, and as our heroine continues her fight for freedom, the black hole seems to get blacker.

EPISODES 9-10 WEECAP

Last week I couldn’t shake the feeling that those episodes — briefly rated 15, and mostly providing “two years later” ramp-up — were to provide a slight respite from the convoluted chaos that awaits us. And oh boy, was I right.

Let’s start at the top, shall we? For me, that’s the reveal around Dr Kim/Yoon-gi. I have spent the last several weeks trying to prepare myself for this moment, but to no avail. He’s kind, he protects Sun-woo, he counsels and actually knows how to talk to Joon-young who’s been acting out terribly… and he’s Chairman Yeo’s mole?! He’s getting close to Sun-woo with ulterior motives?! This show does really great twists. Even when you’re hoping against hope that a twist won’t twist, it’s still twisty when it does!

But there’s something A Couple’s World does better than twists, and that’s planting doubt. It works on us as the audience as much as it does within the story, between the characters — and this week there is so, so much of it. First, of course, is Yoon-gi, where the outrage we feel towards his betrayal/manipulation of Sun-woo is tempered by a “What if?”

He swears to Sun-woo that he’s in cahoots with Chairman Yeo solely in order to keep her safe, and while the double-agent scenario is plausible (and I really hope it’s true), there’s so much doubt around him that I just don’t know yet. And the show likes it that way. We’re feeling the same betrayal and uncertainty as our heroine. Doesn’t this show just give you a massive yet wonderful headache?

There’s more doubt at play in the story this week, and rather than full-on betrayal, this instance is the seed of doubt. Sun-woo started planting it last week in her conversations with Da-kyung, and it continues this week when she says she’s being stalked by Tae-oh, and asks if Da-kyung really trusts him. Da-kyung’s doubt continues to grow when she runs into Hyun-seo who tells her even though she got married, she doesn’t look happy — and then understandingly (heh) says, “Once a cheater always a cheater.”

It’s true that Da-kyung doesn’t look happy. She has everything she wanted, but what do you know, Da-kung is sitting home alone nursing a glass of red wine, just like Sun-woo is. Throw in the fact that Da-kyung learns about Tae-oh’s second phone (full of stalker pictures of his ex-wife), and you can’t really blame her.

Her father, both protective and insightful, is also aware of what’s going on, and has been from the start. I remember liking his reaction when her affair first came to light, and this week he reminds her that she can “come home anytime.” But in the meantime, in case that does (or doesn’t) happen, Chairmen Yeo has got his spies, and his game plan. Yoon-gi is filling him in on Sun-woo, he’s slowly squeezing her out of her position at the hospital, and the end game is to get her out of Gosan for good.

Of all the crazy ways Sun-woo is getting tormented, none bothers me more than how they are trying to get her to leave Gosan. Two Phone Tae-oh and Da-kyung came back of their own volition, and she’s the one that has to leave now?

It makes me want to tear my hair out. I both want her to stay and fight, and to pack up and leave and run a cafe on Jeju Island and live happily ever after. Because I don’t think there is any happy waiting in Gosan for her. Even Chairman Yeo threatens Sun-woo with that, lording his power over her and saying, “No one will take your side in Gosan.”

If anyone really wants her gone, though, it’s Tae-oh. Although does he really? The show is sparing no expense to show us how deranged this guy has become. We see his jealousy as Yoon-gi is hovering around Sun-woo and Joon-young, but we also see this trippy mix of desire/hatred towards Sun-woo.

He hired Hyun-seo’s terrifying boyfriend PARK IN-KYU (Lee Hak-joo) to threaten and harass her (and boy does THAT spiral out of control for Tae-oh) — but at the same time he clearly can’t let her go. He pounds on the door one night and storms into the kitchen, drinks her wine (bastard!), mocks her for watching their wedding video, and then half tears her clothes off. Anyone else think Sun-woo should consider getting that restraining order extended?

Tae-oh has sunk to inexplicable lows, but Sun-woo isn’t the only one on his list. He sets aim for Je-hyuk this week, too. Turns out he was the one that lined up Je-hyuk’s latest mistress — and that was before their drunken conversation about Sun-woo in bed, which was appropriately followed by a full-on brawl. Well, Je-hyuk pays for it this week. Tae-oh makes sure that poor Ye-rim finds out about the affair, and instead of trying to conceive (which Je-hyuk finally acquiesced to), they’re headed towards divorce.

I really liked seeing this character growth for Ye-rim, because she deserves better than to be a) peering from windows and b) married to such a lying scoundrel. But more than growth for Ye-rim and a look at Tae-oh’s disgusting maneuvers, what this did for the plot most importantly was shine some light on Sun-woo.

In this Ye-rim/Sun-woo parallel, we’re seeing two different endings of a similar story. It’s some great contrast, and it’s even greater foreshadowing. Unlike Sun-woo, Ye-rim cuts off her husband outright and decides to leave/start over after her divorce.

Ye-rim plans to make a clean break and let go of her obsession to hold onto her marriage, which is obviously the opposite of what Sun-woo is currently experiencing. Ye-rim even calls her out on her actions, warning that, “If you keep fighting back it won’t end.” Ye-rim goes on to say that it’s worthless to be obsessed, and that it only makes you miserable. Then she confronts Sun-woo by saying she’s just like Tae-oh — strong words indeed.

Sun-woo doesn’t seem to take the warning. Instead, every time she gets messed with, she responds with another confrontation — Chairman Yeo, In-kyu, anyone. Sun-woo is in attack mode, and the more she’s wronged, the more riled up she gets. The storm has begun, and Sun-woo is in it all the way.

Speaking of storms, the Hyun-seo storyline was as troubling as ever. While I love the bond between these two, nothing ever goes right, and they seem to continually underestimate In-kyu and his reach. We ended this week’s episodes with what looks like a gory murder, and I really don’t like what they’re leading us to believe. Has Hyun-seo really been killed? As much as I don’t want this to happen, I can see it firing up our heroine even more (not that her fire needs any fuel). And though I’m loathe to add to the foreshadowing we’re already up to our necks in, I don’t think that this will be the last act of violence we see before the end of this saga.

Man oh man, everything we don't want to happen, happens. There is a kind of love that won't die until one of the two is full destroyed and eliminated. It is like SM.

i didn't watch the original BBC Drama «Doctor Foster» in full, just compared the first 2 episodes (then I read the synopsis of the BBC show on the internet--don't want to have the heart attack in such short period of time, although I actually admire the British screenwriter because I watched his «King Charles III» before, so I know what he's capable of), but I am pretty sure the Korean version is more intense, and darker. I sometimes have to take a breathe before going on (once in the middle of Ep.8, and another in Ep.10). I sometimes do want the show give us some hope, but my hope may probably in ruin.

Just a heads up, according to my understanding, Yoon-gi is the original character in the Korean version, and no equivalent in the BBC version. I guess his existence just make Sun-woo more miserable, or will it?

@imperialtitus

I still like Yoon Gi. I hope he has a hidden identity like probably he doesn’t need the associate director position as he actually owns the hospital or he has been appointed / groomed by Seoul HQ to take over the top director’s position.

I still believe in him because he is from Seoul with no lack of credentials or opportunities. Perhaps the reason he came to Gosan is for a break from his broken marriage so he is not vying for a high position in a small town hospital.

With his psychiatric training, I hope he is more equipped than others to handle the mental game and emotional warfare in this whole entire mess.

See, the thing is we don't know anything about this character. He appears out of nowhere, and all we know is what he tells us, that he had a troubled childhood. He could be an illegitimate son, sired by the Chairman, out for revenge, gunning for the chairman, and aiming to destroy his life through his daughter. To destroy the daughter, he would have to destroy Tae Oh. I don't trust him. This show revels in withholding information, and I feel in my bones that Yoon Gi has an agenda. It's always the nice guy who's the culprit.

(you should be a co writer) 😁

Great! If that’s the case, then more baddies to go after Tae Oh.

I must say the actress playing da kyung is good. Da Kyung is a man stealer without a sense of guilt but I can’t help wishing she will just get out of the whole thing, leave Tae oh, and apologise to Sun Woo.

I am still a bit pissed at the chairman Yeo. He allows his daughter to marry Tae oh, gave him funds and a company etc.

And all he offered Sun Woo is just some money to leave town.

What a cheapskate man! Oh my blood is boiling!!

Chairman Yeo offered "whatever amount you need," which is not a cheapskate. Sun-woo can ask for enough money to open her own hospital.

2

@panshel

Okay billions of won and the son together with injunction order against Tae Oh

0

Anyway I doubt Chairman Yeo is willing to part with his billions. He might put a condition for Sun woo to leave her son behind to pacify Tae Oh.

Or he will just “off” her coz then Tae Oh will not get to see her for good.

And whatever amount you need is different from whatever amount you want. Wealthy he may be but to part with money for sun woo to build a hospital is a separate matter.

How much is he giving The Family Hospital for the next 10 years?

2

Can somebody explain how Yoon Gi was allowed to counsel Joon Young, he is minor...below 16 years of age....he can't legally treat him without consent from his legal guardian in this case that would be Sun Woo...why did they conveniently ignore it...Sun Woo can sue him if she wants

Right now he seems neutral and I want to trust him but this show is saying so far that we can't trust anyone lol.

As soon as I let my guard down with Chairman Heo he pulled a fast one behind Sun-woo's back.
I do understand his love and concern for his daughter but he is not playing fair like before.

@kiara

I agree with you.

1. Being rich, he has the upper hand. He could have been more gentleman to offer her plenty of money to leave town instead of using donation as a condition to demote her.

2. And he only offered her the money when she confronted him.

3. Instead of warning his son in law, he chose to embarrass her over the demotion and attempted to “chase” her away.

4. Didn’t he feel guilty that his daughter broke up her marriage? I recalled he only apologised over his wife’s malicious comments and fake posting but not over the affair.

5. During the dinner outburst, he told her to leave the house and da kyung hit her for revealing the truth. Wow not even a sense of shame?

I am quite disgusted at da kyung’s parents. Little wonder she turned out to be an exact replica of them.

Tell me about it. There I was, thinking, Hm, this guy seems to be pretty decent, loves his daughter a lot, and then they have him do that jaw-dropping turn and reveal himself as The Dastardy Mastermind, with moves slick enough to swallow the rest of the little pawns on the chessboard. He seems to know everything, even Tae Oh's siphoning of funds to pay off the blackmailer. In that golf scene, he seems to show a respect for Sun Woo, like he admires her for her guts, but has no choice but to demolish her for the greater good - his daughter, in this case. I believe he's the one pulling the strings, controlling everything by manipulating everyone. He detests his son-in-law, and I believe he will have no qualms in getting rid of him. His only weakness is his daughter, but even then, he was prepared to disown her and cut off every dime to her name...remember when she was pregnant and struggling? But Sun Woo says, you have crossed the line, and that means I can do anything I want from now on. I wonder if she will get to the chairman through his daughter, by revealing Tae Oh's links to the murder. But this seems so predictable, and one thing this show is not is predictable.

Sorry I have to say this: I guess we misunderstand Chairman Yeo here. Yes, he has every attitude a chaebol has in Gosan, in which some of that is not very popular among us as an audience, but I would say he is one of those better guys in the drama, at least he is the only one not cheating his wife (even though she is one hack of a garbage), and his love to his daughter is genuine. His initial action towards his pregnant daughter is cutting her card to try to stop her relationship with Tae-oh. He funds Tae-oh I guess it's because he simply can't stop her from loving him, so he support him so that at least his daughter doesn't live a desperate life. But he also offer a backdoor (go home if you want to) for her to come back just in case. Obviously he is also the one who want Sun-woo disappear from Gosan, but at least he offer to pay her dearly to start a new life (because he knows it is his daughter making up this mess, that is also why he apologize to Sun-woo when his wife smeared her. Sun-woo confronting him first or not is not an issue for me, however). Even putting Dr. Kim as his mole is also an evidence he want to do everything for his daughter sake. No doubt he will even end this world for the sake of his daughter. He may not doing everything morally right, but his love to his daughter is one of the few pure love in this drama.

Meanwhile, I am still willing to believe in Yoon-gi, although I really doubt his intention for the time being. He is so opaque I simply cannot read his mind for now. He may be truly love her or he just have another agenda, but for now, I want to believe him.

Yes Chairman Yeo may not be a villain in the sense of killing off innocent people to get more wealth or involved in vices.

Yes he loves his daughter but even the most vile villains in KDrama land had sacrificed themselves for their children.

Since he is on the plan with Tae Oh to remove her from the board, he would be aware that Tae Oh is driving her away and forcing her to leave her son with him. He should know that no mother would do that especially in Sun Woo’s case. Although it was not explicitly mentioned in their golf meeting, that was understood to be Tae Oh’s intention all along. It’s not enough to take away the hubby but now the son. He may not be evil to the world but he is cruel to her.

However, if he is genuine about giving her plenty of money and not to force her leave the son, then it’s a form of restitution although the offer should be made before his backdoor attempt to remove her.

But for now she already rescinded his offer, he may resort to illegal methods or manipulative ways to get rid of her. We will have to see.

I think Yoon Gi could be telling the truth. His alliance with Chairman Yeo will help if he is on Sun Woo’s side.

2

True, @reionline, many villains starts off from doing deeds for the sake of their sons and daughters. I won't be surprise if he will act illegally. My argument simply about his love to his deranging daughter, which if he don't do it like that, he may not turn her daughter back.

And, don't underestimate Yoon-gi's capability of doing bad things. In terms of an actor, Lee Moo-saeng is capable to be a good (in «60 Days: Destinated Survivor») or bad (in «One Spring Night»). After all, we know from Episode 1 of this drama, a perfect marriage can become a perfect scandal in no time at all.

2

I agree with you. I hope to see Lee Moo-saeng in a leading role soon. He reminds me of Lee Sang Yoon.

For Sun Woo’s sake, I hope no more baddies turning up. Things are already problematic with In Kyu (dead or alive?) and Tae Oh.

I don’t like to see Sun Woo running out of allies.

- Is Ye Rim leaving town? At least she doesn’t discriminate Sun Woo.

- I so desperately wish for Hyun Seo to be alive.

- I wonder if Je Hyuk will be back even though he doesn’t seem crafty enough...but at least I hope he can put up some obstacles along the Tae Oh’s destructive path.

- I hope Da Kyung falls out of love with Tae Oh, just like Sun Woo did.

- I really hope Yoon Gi is on the good side coz he could be a formidable player in this game of Gosan married world.

2

- I hope Da Kyung falls out of love with Tae Oh, just like Sun Woo did.

Except Sun-woo hasn't fallen out of love with Tae-oh.
I can't root for Da-kyung (or Ye-rim or Je-hyuk). I want all of them to burn in hell.

1

@panshel

Yucks. I won’t love him if I were in their shoes. He almost killed sun woo and he wont marry da kyung if Sun Woo’s dudntvdunp him. I can’t stand him.... urgghhh ... both women are nuts to be in love with him

1

@panshel

Sorry typo 👆
.....if Sun woo didn’t dump him....

I am really curious about this Yoon Gi character as well. I looked into the actor's past roles to figure out whether he normally plays the 'good' or 'bad' character but it's hard to tell. In Chocolate, he was a two-timing husband who only pretended to be nice to her but actually was hoping for her to die so he could get her insurance money. And in One Spring Night, he was the abusive husband to the elder sister of the female lead. But in Designated Survivor, he played a competent Press Sec who who was not fully trusted because his North Korean background. But as Korean dramas go, nothing is what it seems, so since his 'bad' intentions were revealed in Ep 10, perhaps he is really the good guy who is protecting Sun Woo after all.

The last 10 minutes or so of episode 10 was so nerve racking,, so many times I would sigh a breath of relief when In-kyu doesn't seem to catch up to Sun-woo and Hyun-seo and then when he started heading in their direction my blood pressure skyrocketed.

I'm really sad about the ending, I thought Hyun-seo would finally get away from her crazy ex. I realised this now that Sun-woo only ever had Hyun-seo to trust and vice versa and if Hyun-seo really is dead then Sun-woo doesn't have anyone by her side. The scene when Sun-woo gave Hyun-seo her scarf really teared me up..

Hyun-seo was in a public place and should have screamed for help on the train platform instead of abandoning her luggage.

I kind of blame Hyun-seo for Sun-woo being in this situation. Sun-woo's plans to catch her cheating husband were ruined because Hyun-seo has too much baggage. Not only does her degenerate boyfriend keep blackmailing Sun-woo, but In-kyu teams up with off-the-deep-end Tae-oh to get revenge on her. Are we ever going to flashback to Tae-ho opening the door to find In-kyu and Hyun-seo after In-kyu rang Da-kyung's doorbell in Episode 4?

I think In-kyu was the one who died -- not Hyun-seo -- and Tae-oh was the one who pushed him. At first, I thought In-kyu had forced Hyun-seo to jump together as a double suicide, but there was only one body.

If Tae-oh really did kill In-kyu, then he did two things right today -- the first was to expose Je-hyuk's cheating. "He was the one who made that woman seduce me." BS, you were the one who chose to sleep with her. Je-hyuk deserves it. They all deserve it. I don't feel sorry for any of them.

I hate how Show is redeeming these characters. Why is Da-kyung acting as if she's the wronged woman with her husband cheating? You were the other woman first. Who cares about her pity party.

Joon-young is still my favorite character, but I fear that he's going to start liking No-eul now that he know Hae-kang likes her as revenge for badmouthing his parents. But who does No-eul like? The whole Lee family is cray.

Though I understand all his behaviors (especially since he barely knows anything as his mom keep pretending that all is fine), Joon Young lost my respect from the day he hid the footage, told his mom to forgive his dad and that he chose his dad + his dad only abandon his mom, not him. He could've said he wants to live 50-50 with both of them. And by hiding the truth, he basically says it is okay his dad cheats! I understand why he hide it from his mom, but he could've confront his dad, hold him back when he chase DK, etc. But no, he just stay silent like a mute. Totally no respect for him.

They are not getting redeemed, the best thing in this show is they are all terrible people kkk. The reason TO did the set up was to get revenge not to help Ye-Rim. And DK has every reason to feel cheated if he lies to her which doesn't change the fact that she is also not a nice person.

I know Tae-oh set up Je-hyuk to get revenge, not to help Ye-rim, and I support Tae-oh 100%. Je-hyuk deserves to be thrown out of his house and lose his marriage, and Ye-rim deserves to see her husband in bed with another woman.

Je-hyuk was getting redeemed by turning over a new leaf and changing his philandering ways, and Ye-rim and Da-kyung were getting redeemed by sympathizing that their husbands were cheating on them.

Tae-oh lying to his wife, I support him too. Da-kyung deserves to be cheated on.

You say you support him because he is punishing people who you think deserve his deeds but it's strange because you know his reasons to do them. It's pettiness and revenge and obsession, he would do them whether these people were deserving or not.
Je-hyuk was forgiven by his wife, his request to not have children was very wrong because he used it against her, but it doesn't mean he could not become faithful.
Ye-Rim did bad things but she is also capable of being wronged, same goes for Da-kyung.

-Yoon Gi followed Tae Oh to the station and I hope it will be somehow helpful when Sun Woo is in difficult situation
- Hyeon Su is still alive somewhere, I don't think her character will be cut off from the drama until the last episode

I like sun woo when she is calm and analytical. But right now, she is emotional and she keeps confronting people head on, regardless of the timing.

I am always very suspicious of Chairman Yeo. Now I think he is a jerk. He should know even leaving Gosan won’t prevent Tae Oh from chasing after his son. If he means to separate the son from the mom, then I think he is the worst of the lot. In a way he is the real enemy coz he is cunning, cool and calculated. Yoon Gi is right.
So I hope Yoon Gi is truly a double spy as claimed.

Ye Rim, Hyun Seo and Chairman wife remain true to themselves. It’s a pity if Ye Rim is leaving town coz she has been silently looking out for her neighbor.

I don’t like No Eul. Though it seems like she is trying to do the right thing.

Joon Young is pitiful. I just hope he comes out stronger.

Tae Oh is a scumbag. Dae Kyung is foolish. Sun Woo’s colleagues are hypocritical. Je Hyuk deserves it. In Kyu deserves it.

Joon Young is pitiful, trapped between two selfish parents. But he is a stupid kid. Everyone knows that his dad earned nothing back then, he has everything because of his wife, then he cheated on her. Only JY thinks his dad is awesome because he spends more time with him and allow him to play game all the time (not saying kids should study all the time, but it is clear he prefer his dad because the dad always play with him not tell him to study).
He is disrespectful for his mother too, by hiding the video of his father kissing DK and never ever confront his dad. He only think of himself and his own bubble. Never about his mom feeling.
If i were SW, i wouldve disown him from the day I know he hides the truth and still chose his dad after all is revealed.

I am conflicted about joon young.

What I don’t like about him:
- earlier he chose his dad instead of mom even though he knew about the affair
- he happily went to the dad’s house
- he fought with the mom when she brought him back
- jealous over mom’s budding romance when he fully accepted his dad’s affair and second marriage

What I can understand about him
- stealing. It’s not acceptable. But it goes to show that he is facing serious “suppression“.
- playing truant. Again not a good thing but the poor kid probably just needed a break
- of course I felt a relief when he chose his mom when he saw her badly assaulted
- for coming home instead of staying over night at bad daddy’s place. He does love the mom very much. Though he may not realise it, I think he has a bond with her from the way he kept calling her and worrying about her

He resents her, I think, for the divorce. He blames her for it. Probably feels like she never spent enough time at home, and drove his father to seek out the other woman. He is becoming ruder and more rebellious by the day. He resents her for pressurising him over school and tuition.

He scares me. I feel he is capable of crossing the line. He has started to steal to get back at the unfairness of it all. He may do worse. He could do something so terrible that has his parents finally realise the consequences of their actions. Perhaps he may harm someone. Da Kyung. Or Yoon Gi. Or, gasp, Jenny.

Tae Oh is fucked up, his behavior around Sun Woo is terrible....he kept asking her what she wants and I was like dude the lady barely is in your radar or line of sight. You keep seeking her out and the excuse of Joon Young and his prior is not enough to justify his deranged behavior anymore. He just wanted to have sex with her at that moment and that make him both mad at himself and sick that he can't let go and he is taking it out on Sun Woo. He has literally everything he does not deserve, a beautiful young wife, a child, a lavish lifestyle, even professional success, Joon Young is also on his orbit so what is his issue?? Sun Woo can do what she wants in her house, that is none of his business. Also what is wrong with all the Gosan ladies and gentleman. Sun Woo is doing her job, she is good at it and they are driving her out because of their insecurities. I get why Sun Woo wants to fight back because its not fair. She gets cheated on, she gets her head bashed in (Okay, she manipulated that but she only knows that), she does her job right and Chairman wants her out because his little princess needs to be protected from behavior of her husband. I hated how the ladies keep saying shit to her because she had one after hour drink with her superior. So, what, it was professional meeting. I both get why Sun Woo insists on fighting back and at the same time I want her to stop. This place is not worth the effort. She could be so much happier if she let go, that includes that son of hers, I think she needs a time out from everything including motherhood. Tae Oh can fill in for a while anyway. I know easier said than done but it is the only way Sun Woo can ever find some happiness. Myung Soo, Sun Woo was late once in her work, once and she is casually just mentioned her drinking habits. I really wants somebody to teach her a lesson, about time.

About Tae Oh's behavior, yes on paper he has everything he could wish for: a beautiful and young wife, rich and helpful in-laws, successful career, cute daughter, lavish house etc. However, he never truly wanted that, saved for the successful career and Chairman Yeo's help.

He never wanted to divorce Sun Woo. He never ever said that he would divorce her (saved to Da Kyung) and after the dinner scene, he said to SW that he was going to settle the investment and DK until she ruined everything, meaning after he got the investment, he was going to break up with DK. He said in the earlier episode that he "can't imagine life without SW". And this is the crux of his obsession love-hate. She left him on her own terms when he didn't want her to leave him, got her revenge, cheated on him with his best friend just like he cheated on her with DK and in his deranged mind, that's the biggest blow you could do to him.

He doesn't see SW as a person but as an object that he has the ownership of. He even asks Je Hyuk in episode 9 why he slept with "his wife" not "ex wife". He looks mad when the shrink tells him to stop because SW isn't his wife anymore. He still hasn't accepted the divorce and this whole revenge against SW is just to punish her for leaving and for trying to have a life without him - because she wasn't supposed to divorce him and have a life outside of him. That's also why he got DK to wear the same lingerie, make up and perfume as SW - so she's still in his life somehow. So he can get a feel of her through DK. And, in my opinion, he wants her to leave Gosan because he knows that that's the last thing she wants to do and she's going to resist it until the end. Everything he does is to reassert his control on SW, so she has no choice but to do what he wants.

Everything In Kyu said to him about how he truly feels is spot on. This psychopath figured Tae Oh out to the point it disturbed Tae Oh, because they're similar. I don't think TO is a psychopath but he's clearly not sane.

As for SW, I also want her to fight back and at the same time to just leave. But I hate that this way TO and his ilk win, especially when it's obvious TO will not leave her alone until he's truly over her (will he ever be?), just like In Kyu can't/couldn't leave Hyun Seo alone.

Well said @applestorm, agreed on everything about TO, it's not love, maybe never was. Because it's a show we know SW will fight back, but they also make it impossible for her to leave because they want her to just give up her son which is just crazy.

I dislike open ending, giving room for another season. That’s why it ended like that in the BBC version.
I hope this doesn’t turn into a multiple season show because of its popularity.

This drama is so addictive. I just hope we get Sun Woo's counterattack soon because I can't take more psychological torture. I'm also glad how the drama shows how hard it is for women in Korea in general - in love relationships, marriage, divorce, at work etc.

Also it's very hard for me to watch Sun Woo/Tae Oh scenes because Kim Hee Ae and Park Hae Joon have some insane chemistry. Sparks just come from their scenes - on top of the sexual tension. I don't root for them (of course) but dang do their scenes get me on the edge of my seat!

When everyone at twitter was being mad at Kim Yoon Gi and Hyeon Su after the shocking revelation from ep 9, I still want to believe them..

I was relieved when I watched the scene at the start of ep 10, I REALLY hope Yoon Gi sincerelly wants to protect Sun Woo and I hope Hyeon Su is not gone forever. They need to be there as Sun Woo's trustable alliance..

So many shocking twists and turns. My head is reeling.

Trust no one. I knew Yoon Gi was too good to be true. He has an unreadable face. He could be playing the Chairman, and may genuinely care for Sun Woo, but, hey, I'm not trusting anyone. The thing about this show is to have steely nerves and a heart of iron. Do. Not. Trust. Anyone. Even Sun Woo. She could turn out to be the unreliable lead in the end, where chunks of information are left out, only to be filled in later.

There is a dead body. Finally. I have a feeling it's the abuser. Because they led us to believe that it's the girlfriend. And knowing this show, it'd turn out to be the abuser instead. I am becoming so suspicious of everything and everyone. What has this show done to me? And this will become a whoddunit. The list of suspects is staggering. Sun Woo, Tae Oh and Yong Gi are the prime suspects. And knowing this show, you'd think Tae Oh did it....cheng cheng cheng, it'd most probably turn out to be Da Kyung. You owe me, she'll tell him, I know your secrets. Leave me, and I'll spill the beans. Other suspects are the Chairman and his wife. The boy? Hmmm.

Karma is biting. Da Kyung is now in the position of the jealous wife.

The love-hate relationship between Sun Woo and Tae Oh is toxic and self-destructive. I have a feeling Tae Oh will die in the end, sacrificing his life for hers. That is the only way to redeem his sins. He may even whisper, "I'm sorry" and "I love you. I never stopped" to her with his dying breath.

Spot on about unreliable narration and narrators.....what if Sun Woo and Hyun Soo are the ones putting every single thing in motion like chess peaces in a game and what if Da Kyung/Tae Oh end up taking their bait...The makers said episode 12 would be another high point...lets face it...Tae Oh is not the smartest cookie.....he is using money that his father in law gave to him to pay off somebody to blackmail his ex-wife...and I low key feel like Chairman hates Tae Oh and very much wants him eliminated from the picture without hurting his daughter....what if he is helping Sun Woo....I am pretty sure the next episode gives us hints of that....This is definitely going the who dunnit route now......I fear for Joon Young.....no way is that boy going to come out unscathed in all these business.

Okay y’all but how we feeling about yoon gi, the therapist, I feel like he knew her before, like a character from her past.. When I watched the hotel scene, when they first met, he looked as if he knew her from somewhere and kept staring. And then he says “I have to protect you”?.. what does that mean? And joon young having kleptomaniac tendencies, stealing precious items that were gifted to his classmates by their dads is quite sad but it’s been 2 yrs since the divorce, just like no eul said he is giving kids of divorce a bad rep. Plus I don’t think hyun seo is dead, I think it’s her ex, in kyu. I just get that feeling. Anyways I’m on the edge of my seat y’all!!

Isn't it unfair to say something like this about divorce? I mean, they can do whatever they like, they don't have to behave better in order for the rest not to be prejudiced, that's why it's still complicated to get divorced there and people should not support this kind of idea. I felt sorry for that girl that she lives in a culture that makes her think that way.

I am loving PD Mo Wan-il and Joo Hyun for their excellent work with this show.
Instead of following the original too closely like the first 6 eps, they make the 2nd half their own and also eliminating unnecessary sex scenes etc.
I love all of our actors, veterans and the young. Everyone is carrying their own. The music, my gosh I'm insane for listening to it and recalling every scenes from the drama.

Rock on to #1 "Couple's World." You surely deserve it!

The buzzing of the phone. I swear it sets my teeth on edge every time I hear it. Zzzzz, and my BP starts to spike, and my heart starts to pound. That scene where the phone suddenly buzzed, and Ye Rim's husband received the first pic, and the flurry of buzzes after that...so effective, and so chilling.

I will write two comments.. This first one is dedicated strictly to Tae Oh.

First comment..
OMG, I'm sorry, hate me if you will but I kinda love this guy.. Tae Oh is funny AF because he is so crazy.. Lets recap, First Tae Oh was staring at Sun Woo on a date like that dude in the basement from Parasite..

My favorite scene belong to JH when he told TO he envied him because it takes skill to live off a woman.. ooohhh BURN! That was funny. My next favorite scene is when Tae Oh storms over to Sun Woo's house, barges in, drinks her wine, looks at her in her nightgown suggestively, and states " when are you going to stop harassing me".

Tae Oh reminds me a little of Donald Trump ( in a weird way). I mean he lies blatantly and without hesitation, he never apologizes, he doesn't think he did anything wrong and everything is someone else's fault. I mean this guy is seriously crazy but he is definitely the most interesting character on the show. He literally cracks me up almost every scene. In my opinion, the villain is suppose to be this super bad arch-nemesis that is difficult to defeat. Tae Oh is vain, narcissistic, selfish, weak man. I dont think he is a evil man but an very weak one who needs validation.
In the last two episodes Tae Oh was blackmailed by a petty criminal, checked by Dr. Kim, checked by DK, hit by Sun Woo, beat up by JH.. lol. He is not a very good villain in my opinion.
I had said in prior comments that Tae Oh was in love with SW and missed his real family. I think Tae Oh's anger steams from the lack of validation he received from SW. Tae Oh is the type of man that needs validation and assurances and I think DK gives him that but SW didnt. I also think that he has resentment because she was the breadwinner and everyone saw him as the loser living off of her. TO always loved SW but they have 15 years of issues too. Park Ryu accurately summed everything up about TO, he wants to break SW but he wants to save her.. #twistedlove

Comment two, episode breakdown..

If I could click my heels, I would. Dr. Kim and SW confirmed what I have longed thought that TO and SW have feelings for each other and their marriage isn't as over as it appears.

Highlights of the night include:
1. The sexy scene with TO and SW and him tearing at her nightgown, kinda hot and she did not resist
2. JH burn comment to Tae Oh about living off of a woman
3. My girl Ye Rim dishing out that truth serum to Sun Woo
4. The disbelief I felt when Myung-Sook said she was SW only ally in Gosan.. OMG, it must be hard walking around with two -faces.
5. The AUDACITY/NERVE of the Chairman to not only get SW fired as associate director but to tell her to name her price to leave.. I was on FIRE when I saw that.

I have been saying that SW is equally obsessed with TO because she is playing his games instead of walking away. I keep to my original predicition that they will kill each other ( similar to her parents) or they will get back together ( the wedding video reminiscence and Madame Choi's words about young people getting divorced so easily) hints at that possibility as well.
I feel bad for JY because that kid is literally unraveling and neither SW or TO seems to notice because they are too busy fighting each other. I also feel bad for JH, Yes, yes, he was utterly wrong but I felt like he was seriously about to turn over a new leaf and then this happened. I knew TO was going to get back at him for sleeping with SW.
Dr. Kim, Dr. kim.... I honestly think that he has lost SW trust. There is no going back now. Plus, he weirds me out a little because of his interest in JY. Plus, why did he tell SW he was trying to protect her and then tell the chairman he had no interest in her. I do believe that he isn't interested in her job but I feel like he got off on the wrong foot, SW already has enough crazy men in her life lying, she doesnt need extras doing it.
Did I mention I love this show.. lol.. and I am going to say it, I am cheering for SW and TO to get their family back together..dont slay me but I feel like the only way to end this war is a marriage treaty.. lol..#twistedlove

You took the words right out of my mouth. I agree with you, Tae Oh is the most exciting character in this drama. I hold my breath every time he appears, but he is no cool- headed villain, this guy fumbles like an amateur, and his plans to wreck his ex's life disintegrate and unravel so bad until he loses control. The blackmailer is case in point. Why pick a simmering firecracker with issues? Why not just hire a professional to do his dirty work? Tae Oh is not too smart, and is a poor judge of character. He thought bullying Sun Woo would drive her away. It only made her stronger. He thought threatening the blackmailer would cow him, he bit back by threatening his son.

I think Tae Oh will be set up as the killer, but he is innocent. I believe he will be made to think that Sun Woo set him up. I think two of them will get together to fight back at whoever it is that is threatening their world - kind of like a "we can hurt each other, but nobody else has the right to hurt us, because we are exclusive, we belong together" bizarre shoutout to the strange, murky world of this dark, disturbing drama.

I think Tae Oh and Sun Woo will make their peace with each other. But I doubt they will get together in the end. They have committed sins, Tae Oh even worse than Sun Woo. I do think it will end with his death, something tragic and self-sacrificing, and it will finally redeem him in Sun Woo's eyes.

The chemistry between Tae Oh and Sun Woo is over the roof. I was rooting for them to sleep together in that hot scene where he tore off her negligee...well, the top part, anyway. I am still rooting for them, my favourite, most toxic OTP of the year so far.

And candilane, you were absolutely spot-on regarding the waitress being planted by Tae Oh to seduce Ye Rim's husband. Brilliant deduction, Sherlock.

OMG, your prediction is delicious😍😍😍!! I never thought about TO being setup as the killer and him and SW working together to resolve it, it makes sense. I wonder if the chairman will have anything to do with it? cant trust anyone in that bloody town. I don't think TO killed anyone, he's not the type. He's crazy but he's not that crazy.. I agree the chemistry is over the roof, I wonder if they will have an affair which will be the ironies of ironies.. The ex-wife and husband have an affair, it would be just desserts to DK. They are my toxic couple too. I hope SW can move on but I don't think she can, I think her and TO are in too deep.

Also I figured the girl was TO plant because I was thinking TO is super petty, he is not going to let JH sleep with his wife and just move on. Also, that girl was "too easy" , she just gave her number to him and was flirting with him out of nowhere, it felt off.

So I found out that Dr. Foster had a teacher character, the boy's teacher, who Dr. Foster started dating to make the ex jealous.

They replaced him with a doctor here - I'm thinking it's to make the new guy even more of a threat...a psychiatrist, rich and confident, and with access to the son, much like a teacher would.

I am rooting for a hot affair between Sun Woo and Tae Oh. They sizzle, and every time the door bell rang, I'm like, Tae Oh, please let it be Tae Oh. Loved that sexy scene. Too bad he stormed out. I was so disappointed. Like dude, come back here, where do you think you're going? And where was the son then? Asleep?

My grouses with this show:

1. The son received counselling without being accompanied by a parent, and without a parent's consent. It doesn't work that way in real life.

2. When you want to escape your abusive ex bf, you DO NOT tell your colleagues where you are going. You do not mention names of towns you are thinking of relocating to. Because you know your ex. He would be there in a minute, demanding to know where you are. It was so dumb, I actually thought it was a ploy to sidetrack him, telling him through the friend where she could be going to. WHEN MY EX SHOWS UP LATER, AND I KNOW HE'S GOING TO SHOW UP LIKE A MILLION PER CENT, JUST CASUALLY DROP THAT I'M THINKING OF GOING TO XXX OR XXXX. THANKS. BYE BYE.

Turns out she did the DUMBEST thing ever. Unbelievable, because this is a streetsmart girl.

Wow, @missvictrix! Your recap was very fast in coming! When Joon-young ditched his academy lessons and went to play, I can understand his confusion on why his mom had to call the police. For parents, the dilemma of telling the child the truth or not is really hitting home. I believe Sun-woo should explain to Joon-young the dangers of going anywhere without telling anybody. Those are the basic things we tell our children: don't talk to strangers, don't accept anything from strangers, etc.

I understood Joon-young's "What kind of mom would call the police for ditching one lesson?" completely. At first, I thought Sun-woo gave the dead bird to the police, which led to their search for her missing son, but she didn't. Why would she not report In-kyu's threat on Joon-young's life?

The abuser guy dies. Who killed him, and why?

My list of suspects

1. Da Kyung - wants to protect her husband.
2. The Chairman - wants to protect his daughter.
3. Yong Gi - motive to be revealed.
4. The Chairman's wife - wants to protect her daughter.

Unlikeliest Suspects

1. Tae Oh - Just because he's the likeliest culprit.
2. Sun Woo - will probably murder someone soon, just not so early.
3. The Girlfriend - A likely culprit, so that assumption alone rules her out.

Definitely Not

Honourable Mentions

1. The wicked backstabbing friend - she would most likely be murdered, long before she gets to murder someone else.

2. The boy - Joon Young is chilling. I fear he may do something terrible soon. And it will make his parents sit up, and take a good, hard look at themselves.

Other Possibilities

1. The guy could have been so crushed by the fact that his girlfriend is fleeing from him he kills himself by flinging himself off somewhere - maybe a roof.

2. He tries to kill his girlfriend, but ends up killing himself.

3. He tries to kill both himself and his girlfriend, but she manages to escape. He dies.

4. She tries to kill herself, but he saves her and dies, instead.

5. She pushes him to his death deliberately.

The investigation into his death dredges up his connections with Tae Oh and Sun Woo.

I think TO probably killed the abuser guy but SW will be suspected because her scarf is at the scene of the crime. The preview showed CCTV footage has been destroyed, so that was probably the chairman's doing to protect TO.

If they do DNA testing on the scarf they would find Hyun Seo's DNA and Sun Woo's DNA. Plus Sun Woo was getting into her car while In Kyu was still alive, and isn't there a black box in her car? Then SW discovers HS's bags on the platform, so I'm sure she is captured on several CCTV cameras in the station; SW tries to call HS when she hears the sirens and sees people running. Too much evidence to clear SW of the crime.

There is one thing that is glaringly evident in this drama, and it's that when a couple cares more about their child than each other, their relationship is doomed to fail. I've seen this in real life--one should never make their kids the center of their life. It's not good for the kid and it's not good for society.

Remember what he said? She wasn't really close with him before the divorce, then she gets him from school and almost pushes him off a cliff while emotional blackmailing the kid. Later she sets his father up, telling she killed the kid so boy has to find them like that. Let's not forget she tells the kid she doesn't date because he is her world. No wonder boy is going crazy himself.
