Drama viewership ratings for the week of April 6-12, 2020

Some big news ahead, both good and bad for our shows. For the most part, there was little change in the chart, everyone maintaining their respective audiences. Unfortunately, this became a negative for the quiet romance A Piece of Your Mind; after a few weeks of low ratings, the production team decided to shorten the drama from 16 episodes to 12. The statement claimed that they wanted to tighten the writing for its remaining run time, so hopefully, at the very least, fans of the drama aren’t entirely disappointed.

In the second half of the week, legal drama Hyena finished its run with a personal best of 14.6 percent. Hyena wasn’t the only one — Hospital Playlist continued to break its own record as well, jumping up to 11.3 percent. Now, for the really good news, A Couple’s World’s ratings have officially surpassed not only Itaewon Class, but Goblin and Answer Me 1988. With a full 10 more episodes to go, A Couple’s World is already the third highest rated cable drama of all time, and it’s quickly comin’ for Crash Landing and the almighty SKY Castle.

Admittedly, I will be bummed if when A Couple's World overtakes SKY Castle to become the highest-rated cable drama of all time. I am amazed at A Couple's World's ratings when its target audience is adults with the episodes rated 19. SKY Castle's satire of the education system made it popular with teens, and the SKY Castle kids, especially Kim Hye-yoon, Kim Bo-ra, Jo Byung-kyu, and Kim Dong-hee, always trended. A Couple's World's makjang makes your blood boil, whereas SKY Castle had comic relief thanks to Kim Byung-chul and Oh Na-ra.

I actually want "Couple's World" to go where ever it want to go.
Take notes dramaland. Women in their 40s and 50s are still a force to be reckoned with.

The original show was a BBC hit series so we can't expect "Couple's World" to be any less.
It is fast pace with a Greek mythology flavor. Something a bit different from our usual slow burn K-drama revenge.

Yes, I can't believe that Kim Hee Ae is 52! Like Sky Castle, the lead actress is older than the average K-drama leads.

Women live well into their 80s now. There should definitely be more depictions of older women.

I am so addicted to this show. I am rooting for Sun Woo. It is makjang in parts, but the drama is just so deliciously wicked and peppered with red herrings that make my jaw drop.

Quite the run of female leads leading their dramas to critical and ratings success: Son Ye Jin/CLOY, Gong Hyo Jin/Camella, Ha Jin Won/Chocolate, Kim Tae Hee/Hi Bye Mama.

Compare it with Oct-Dec 2019 Jan-Feb 2020 stats As said few months ago Unemployment and Holidays can't be the significant mark of ratings.
If present scenario+absence of all sports activity isn't yielding +ve outcome then there lies problem in product itself. You can't for long look down upon your customer. Though, like them, i too have not so good opinion about customer base.

I really want to join in on A Couple's World because it's right up my alley and I loved this director's work in Misty, but my drama plate is SO FULL.

If I add this, I'll be live-watching FOUR dramas at the same time (five if i really stick with A Piece of Your Mind). But I don't really have all this time, since I'm *studying from home* 😭😭😭

I would have to sacrifice live-watching at least one drama, which would be APOYM. But I'm pretty sure if i stop watching it, I'll never pick it up again.

Mo Wan-il PD/Assistant PD/Producer of some of my favorite shows like "Rebirth" 2005, "Goodbye Solo" 2006, "Beautiful Mind" 2016, "Misty" 2018 and now "Couple's World."

It looks like he is sticking with JTBC which makes me happy. KBS has been losing their talented writers and PDs to the cable networks.

haha yes I am studying from home also. It is difficult to stay focused because this also gives me more time to cruise the Internet 😉

Somehow working from home has not increased my drama watching time either.

Hahaha been there. While I don't have the urge to watch more of the live crop these days, I have had to drop/pause one-two dramas before because otherwise I wasn't able to focus on studies. Anyway, i didn't want to, even the ones I wasn't really enjoying because I knew if I put CLOY and Never Twice on pause God knows I might never pick it up again. Fast forward a few months, while the OTP of Never Twice had me finshing the drama for them, i still haven't restarted CLOY and don't have any plans to in the near future. The fact that episodes are movie lenght doesn't help either!

I have been watching ONCE AGAIN and have to say that it is better than the weekend drama which preceded it- although the ratings are similar.

I'LL FIND YOU ON A BEAUTIFUL DAY is keeping its audience but really should have more- Still it does not seem to be losing ground either.

It seems like Koreans rn aren't in favor of the slower paced romantic shows. I feel like it's been that way for a while now...

At the same time, it's a bit bittersweet for me because I think when K-dramas do it well they create great romantic stories. So hearing about Welcome/Piece of Your Mind being cut down to 12 episodes is a bit sad to me :( We need both the dramatic shows, and also the slower romantic aired shows too!

That's good to hear. Weirdly I read on Twitter that it was cut down, I guess I got it mixed up with A Piece of Your Mind.

Why Memorist have such a low ratings😔.
I don't know what kind plot does koreans like? I mean seriously this drama deserve more rating..the writer has put so much effort in this that it has been 10 episode we don't have a slightest idea who is eraser... Wow just like Tunnel. I feel bad for cast bt dont worry international fans are here you guys are a way more popular in overseas than in Korea.. 😂😂😂

I feel bad for a piece of your mind.
I hope even if it is 12 episodes, it is done well such that when I pick it up for binge watching I can just immerse myself in romantic make belief! I feel bad for the cute couple :(
