Drama viewership ratings for the week of May 25-31, 2020

Time for the last ratings check-in of May! You know the drill — we’ve got new shows and new ratings, old shows and meh ratings, the whole shebang. First up, we had the premieres of Will You Have Dinner With Me and Sweet Munchies, both of which happen to be food themed dramas. Pretty good numbers here, considering the history of this timeslot.

Midweek, healing drama Soul Repairer took yet another hit, reaching an all time low of 1.8 percent. Meanwhile, its competition, Old School Intern and Mystic Pop-up Bar made themselves comfortable with their respective audiences. Then, on the opposite end, Hospital Playlist finished its run with an all time high of 14.1 percent.

Finally… The King. Oh, The King, what a journey it’s been. The drama postponed episode 13 to Saturday, moving 14 to next week. It might’ve been to the drama’s detriment, because 13’s numbers dropped to 7.7 percent. This makes me a bit sad, actually, since the episodes are getting better and better for me. Ah well, it is what it is, right?

With Hospital Playlist finished, I hope that Mystic Pop-up Bar will see an increase next week.

Glad also that Mystic Pop-up Bar and Oh My Baby are on different timeslots.

I hoping HP would be in the 20s but I guess they still could in the next season.

This made me check the highest rated dramas on cable, HP made it to top10!

With the ratings it got this season, it might go to 20s or higher than this season.

Kudos to Hospital Playlist! They deserve it! 👏🏻👏🏻

I’m also happy that Will You Have Dinner With Me is starting quite strong, I hope this drama will turn out good! Although TK:EM might not be doing so well in ratings, but I’m sure it gives impact globally because in my country, it’s always trending top 10 on Netflix and hashtag in twitter is moving fast. People are talking about TK:EM.

This new season seems to have a lot of "is this really worth watching" stuff in it. Mystic Pop Up Bar and Dinner are about the only ones on my list of any real interest. Seems like after the first 2-4 episodes many of the rest just seem to go Bleh.

Yup if you drop the shows in this crop it hardly makes a difference.

Actually, Oh My Baby is shaping up to be one of the better rom-coms in recent years for me. I know many find it pretty standard, but I'm finding the character interactions refreshing, especially in eps 3-6. I'm enjoying Mystic Pop Up Bar and Dinner too, though not quite as much yet.

Dayum, my prediction of The King's rating will increase after TWOM is wrong. Their rating remains the same more or less. Yikes. I guess I was too optimistic on The King's rating prediction. Was hoping I wouldn't be wrong.

Though now that I think about it, The King lost its solid viewers from 1st episode, so not surprised that it remains around 5-8%. Welp, que sera sera.

The King and TWOTM are in different time slots so the latter ending would not affect The King's ratings because they were not in direct competition.

Which makes it sadder. They had no one to compete with and their ratings are still so low.

I never expect the ratings for it to pick-up, since half of the audiences have lost interest in TKEM, after the lackluster performance of the drama from episode 1 to 11. It is useless to blame TWOM, a drama that has less budget, actors that do not have groupies ot fanatic fans, and a lot of advertisers. Besides the time-slot for these dramas are different.

ONCE AGAIN'S numbers are holding up, as they should be.

HOSPITAL PLAYLIST is getting the love that it deserves- but do we really have to wait a year for the second season?

MYSTIC POP UP BAR is a good show- why are the numbers not better?

Well, I’m a bit sad for The King’s rating this week.
I thought postponing the 13th episode to Saturday was an intentional move to raise the ratings for the remaining episodes of TK. Sadly, it doesn’t look like the ratings will increase much (if at all) for the remaining eps.

I actually thought it’s a good, beautiful and quite hilarious show. It also ranked no.1 on Netflix in my country today.

Once Again: Definitely deserves the high ratings for its fast moving plot and amazing chemistry. Sometimes it resolves issues in such a short span of time that even some 16 episodes series might fail in that case.

The King: Although i heard praises for epi 13 but despite pre-empting the episode for friday it didn't make much difference as it is the worst rated episode for a Saturday till date. First part of the episode rated at around 5.6 pc and second part reached 7.7.Just hope it doesn't go below 5pc.

Mystic Pop-Up bar: It's Wednesday ratings are always higher than Thursday. With no Hospital Playlist clashing its time-slot and an intriguing plot ,I see its ratings go up. Honestly I m enjoying it so much .Even though it may give HDL vibes but for me it is far better than HDL. The episodic stories are interesting, funny and emotional .The trio is amazing. And yeah not to forget some amazing cinematography.

Dinner Mate : Plot is getting better and am enjoying it. Given that the preceding drama in this time slot fell so low in ratings, this one is pretty decent.

The King is the drama tragedy of 2020. I never thought i would see a Kim Eun-sook drama rank this low and the drama itself is absolute trash. I think because she is so used to success, she totally did not care about the quality of her product this time which means she has become lazy and arrogant. This happens to a person who has been sucessful too long and is just not focused on creativity anymore. She probably thought she'd get Lee Min Ho and the female lead of Goblin and it would means success, that the audience dont care about quality but star power, well WRONG! She is learning a great lesson here, hope this help her future work. Personally the ONLY work i've loved from this writer was Secret Garden and to me Hyun Bin saved that drama and made it what it was. I never was able to get into her work after that but the audience continued to follow her like a cult and support her work. Eventually she just didnt think she needed to work hard anymore. I dont know how anyone could have approved this drama. The script is horrible, directing is worse. I mean what the heck happened here? lol I've also never seen Lee Min Ho this bad in his acting. The female lead seems to always be sleep walking, she is not dynamite AT ALL as an actress and the chemistry is just not there.

In a time when many have stepped up in K-drama land, this writer regressed. I'm glad we had dramas like Crash landing on you and world of the married to save this year in dramaland. Hope we see more k-dramas like that and less like this mess of a drama.

...tbh I agree, Kim Eun-sook kind of sounds like she's got a chip on her shoulder from the way she vets her stars. Yeah sure, she has the right to have access to big stars but making Lee Dong Wook court her for his role in Goblin just never sat right with me.

The script is, as you said, very old school kdrama without a twist. And I don't find her playing with the physics theory of anti-matter to be as clever or dynamic as it could be.

I did enjoy Secret Garden, Desc of the Sun, Goblin and Mr. Sunshine (hated Heirs though), but I must say that her best drama will always be (in my opinion) A Gentleman's Dignity. It's so so good, I can't believe she wrote such masterpiece! She needs to go back and rewatch her old good stuff to refresh her mind and start anew.

She needs to do a few things after this drama:
A. Write a dynamic female character who doesn't kick ass from the start and ends up crying so much towards the episode 20 onwards
B. Stop relying on the same actors all over again, even they are super popular or good-looking.
C.Stop writing scripts that deals with poor girl-rich guy relationship anymore.
D. Remember to put in the chemistry element.

KES relies on her team of staff writers, she probably should find another staff writers to ghostwrite it for her next drama.

As for LMH's acting, I mean he's the same as before. His crying scenes are still terrible, like from Legend of Blue Sea. KGE, on the other hand, should close her mouth during The King. It makes her look dazed, which I don't think it's her intention to be.

I totally agree... the writer- director did not do their jobs in this drama...the casting is not appropriate— KGE (female lead) is not in the right role here— she does not match well / no chemistry with LMH — actually she did not match with Gong Yoo either but Goblin was saved by better plots and superb acting from GY And LDW. LMH only looks good like models showcase PPLs but nothing else. Also the female lead need to dress better than all those baggy/shapeless clothes. The fight scene was very comical with horses and swords while gun men stood around as audiences. The prime minister is ridiculous with her extravagant styles.

I happen to like baggy/shapeless clothes and think KGE's wardrobe is appropriate for her job. She's dressing for herself and not for the sake of appealing to some ideal of how she should look in the eyes of whoever. Not even a king. So, I say, "you do you KGE," or whatever the character's name is because I only watched episode one.

And this concludes my allotted headspace time for this drama that I'm not even watching and don't give two figs about, but I do care about comfortable clothes. I will defend the wearing of baggy clothes forever.

Great fan of Taeeul's (that's the character's name) clothes here! She looks comfy and effortlessly cool.
Lee Gon's coat-game is on point too!

I like Taeul outfits~ there was a brief moment where I thought she might look better in more athletic clothes...but I changed my mind, her relaxed style is comfortable and suitable for running around. She looks cool and I want her outfits 😆.

I'm also liking the PM style in the recent episodes. She looks great in pastel and manage to look powerful even when wearing feminine outfits~ and her two tone leather coat was 🤩.

Hospital Playlist had a great rating for the last episode, an increase from the rating of the last ep from Prison Playbook. Congrats to everyone involved on that drama!

...The King...those ratings are sad...It seems that a well-known writer and famous cast aren't saving this drama.

BTW, can anyone here tell me how I can watch the upcoming 56th annual Baeksang Arts Awards live?

I just want to know what kind of conversations the executives at KBS must be having regarding the year end awards. This year is a huge let down after the amazing run they had in 2019.
