Won Jin-ah, Kim Ro-woon confirm new JTBC drama

Won Jin-ah, Kim Ro-woon

A new JTBC drama is being planned called Sunbae, Don’t Put on That Lipstick and casting has been confirmed for actors, Won Jin-ah (Melting Me Softly) and Kim Ro-woon (Extraordinary You).

The story is based on a webtoon by the same title, which won best contemporary romance in Yes24’s 2017 Romantic Collaboration competition.

Won Jin-ah plays the role of Yoon Song-ah, who works in marketing for a cosmetics company and her dream is to one day have her own makeup brand. In love, she has difficulty seeing anyone younger as a viable romantic interest.

But that changes, of course, with Kim Ro-woon. His character, Chae Hyun-seung, works with Won in the marketing division, and she is his sunbae within the company. He is described as being sincere and assertive.

Won Jin-ah is so baby-faced that I did a double take when I saw her character being described as having trouble seeing younger men in a romantic way, but it turns out she’s actually six years older than Kim Ro-woon. After the fiasco that was Melting Me, here’s hoping she sees drama success this time around.

Writing for the drama is Chae Yoon and directing will be helmed by PD Lee Dong-yoon (20th Century Boy and Girl, Fated to Love You).

JTBC’s upcoming Sunbae, Don’t Put on That Lipstick is currently being planned to air in the early half of 2021.

She's so pretty, in the picture above, she's giving me Jang Hee Jin vibes. I've never seen Won Jin ah with her hair out of her forehead.

The drama's title sounds interesting. I hope it works out well. I'm so glad I didn't watch Melty.

I like Won Jin-ah. I like Ro-woon. I have a hard time thinking of them together, and it's not the age difference. He has so much more energy. She comes across as much more pensive. I guess we'll see how that works out. Fingers crossed.

Every time I see Won Jin-ah I get the vibe that she is on the verge of a remarkable performance. I hope she finds a suitable vehicle - because for me her drama section has been very up and down.

Quite excited for Rowoon actually. I think he's got potential. He may not be exceptional but he's good and have potential to be better. I've watched his previous roles before Extraordinary You and he has never stuck out as a bad actor for me. In About Time he was still green (does not help that his character was supposed to be an immature younger sibling) but Where Stars Land was where he caught my eye a bit (I mean his looks play a bit of a part in it.)

He improved in Extraordinary You. I mean for him to be able to portray a character without much of a written setup i think he deserves a pat on the back. and he seems to have a lot of chemistry with anyone he has worked with. So if one of Won Jinah's problem in her previous work was chemistry, then hopefully she would have it with Rowoon this time.

I say, give this a chance before claiming it will flop (i know that Melting Me Softly has left a bitter taste in several drama viewers' mouths). I thought My ID is Gangnam Beauty would be a flop but it still did well despite the mediocre acting. I just hope the story won't be too shallow, and hopefully would have more interesting backstory within it rather just a plain typical fluffy office romance.

Yessssss!!! I had prayed to drama god's that this would happen. I'm so glad it's happening. I seem to be getting more accustomed to Noona regards and I really liked Rowoon in Extraordinarily You. Although he's not that great an actor, he has a lot of potential (trying not to be biased here cause I love him so much) and I know he can get better with more practice. @frabbycrabsis and @purplesheesh let's make plans to watch this while it airs

Hahahahaha, that makes more sense! I was so confused!
I was like, "Was I really THAT vocal about my love for Haru Found by Chance?"
I probably was, but still.

Hahaha no worries! Let's spread the Hye Yoon love! Hi, @frabbycrabsis! Nice to emeet you!

Totally agree about Rowoon though, hope he improves with this show because I also found he has potential but not quite there yet. I'm not fond of noona romances too, but might make an exception with Rowoon and Won Jin Ah. Will def be excited to watch the show with you!

Even I wasn't really into Noona romances initially but I've come around to them now. And if they do a bit of reversal of traditional gender roles, then I'm a sucker

Also is it just me or does Rowoon have a very different facial structure than most idols?

He does have stronger looking features than many idols of his generation. He has more of a second gen male idol vibe.

As far as I know they announced the drama will air in second half of 2020, but push back to 2021 maybe because it will clash with SF9's comeback or schedule.
After hits drama from JTBC, I want this drama will be success and can't wait to see them acting together. Rowoon has great chemistry with hye yoon so I hope he and won jin ah will portray great chemistry too.

Would check this out for the title alone, but if it won an award, then have high hope for a decent story too.

Rowoon had a noona romance in About Time and he had chemistry with Han Seung-Yeon. They were a cute second couple.

I'm curious about Won Jin Ah because her acting was awkward in Melting Me Soflty, she looks more at ease in serious drama.

She did not shine in Melting me softly. She was so bad in the comedy part. also, she lacked charisma and screen presence.

This is going to be one ASMR of a drama (ˊᵒ̴̶̷̤ ꇴ ᵒ̴̶̷̤ˋ)

Also, the premise sounds a little like Han-ju’s storyline in Be Melodramatic (if it hadn’t gone for the bait and switch). I’m on board!

is it bad to say that I dont like her? . i dont like her voice, and OH MY, this girl, was overacting from Ep 1 to Ep 16 in melting me softly, her acting was unpleasant to watch.
, she also lacked lead star appeal.
I will pass on this one.

I LOVED her voice the minute I heard it in Just Between Lovers.

Melting Me Softly was terrible all-around so I don't wanna judge her rom-com(?) capabilities based off of that one drama. She did very well in the melo JBL.

I love Rowoon, and I know he has the potential to become a really good actor, but most of his dramas end up having a disappointing second half, so I am really hoping that this show would be a good one or a good crack.

Noona romance, when done right, is so fun to watch.

I was so impressed with Rowoon after Haru Found by Chance, so I'm delighted by the idea of seeing him again (despite my disappointment that Jang Dong-yoon turned down the role). I think Won Jin-ah would make a good partner for him.

I liked Rowoon in EY and i believe this guy has a potential to be successful in the future.
As for Won jin ah, I have to be honest but am not a fan. I watched MMS, and i can say that she didnt have comedic timing. Her acting looked so awkard in that drama. also, she didnt have. Negative chemistry with Ji chang wook.
So, i will PASS.

Rowoon isn’t an amazing actor yet, but he has a lot of talent and he’s (IMO) the best among the recent crop of idol actors. I am a little tepid about thrusting him in another leading role without giving him more time to develop, but I’m also excited. I think he could improve a lot in this one.

Rowon, I've only watched him in About time.
I guess they both have their share of weird dramas...

I am not happy with this because I really do not like the Female Lead. I do not find her pretty . She also overacted in her last drama with Ji Chang wook, which i dropped at episode 4. I just could not watch her. Her acting annoyed me. She's was one of the main reasons why MMS Flopped. Shes not MY CUP OF TEA.
Will this be another Flop because of her? Lets wait and See.
I will just wait for the next project of Rowoon after this.

This smells Flop. The Female, Won Jin Ah's acting is just so awful and annoying, super annoying , most of the time. She is the worst for me.
This is my opinion.

Also, don’t get the hate directed at Woo Jin Ah, but then again I dropped Melt Me Softly before the first episode ended. She was adorable in Just Between Lovers. Maybe she’s just one of those actresses who are better in dramas than comedies. Doesn’t mean that she’s a bad actress, just means comedy isn’t her wheel house.🤷🏻‍♀️

I don't get it either. She was fantastic in JBL and Life.
And no one was good in Melty, which was a terrible drama.
Sure, she wasn't good in the com part, but no one was.

You would think Won Jin-ah wrote, directed, and played all the roles in Melting Me Softly. She starred in one poorly-received, terribly written show and therefore must be sent out to pasture. Ji Chang-wook was the ML, is the bigger star, and chose Melting as his post-military role, but isn't nearly as maligned.

She was excellent, incandescent really, in Just Between Lovers, and solid in Life, so I am sure she can pull off being a lovely cosmetic marketer who has some reservations about dating her perfect 10 hoobae. Get it, Won Jin-ah!

I hope this is a bit of redemption for Jin-ah after Melt Me because I so adored her in JBL and know she's got the acting chops. Ro-woon is still growing as an actor, but he was certainly lovely to look at in Extraordinary You and has a lot of charm, so I'm in.

Bit surprised at all the one-sided dislike for Won Jinah. I saw her in Just Between Lovers and absolutely loved her and the strength of her acting. So what if she had one off drama - it's not like it was solely her fault that the drama was bad. I think her skills will be more than good enough with decent writing and directing.

I'm a little bit more apprehensive for Roowon. I liked Extraordinary You as much as the next person, but his role frankly was limited in range and relied heavily on the charm of his female lead. Hoping he'll pull this off; and keeping both eyes open for this.
