Kim Soo-hyun and Seo Ye-ji grow close in new promos for It’s Okay to Not Be Okay

The premiere is just five days away; a new video teaser and stills have been released for tvN drama It’s Okay to Not Be Okay.

Kim Soo-hyun (The Producers) stars in the rom-com as Moon Kang-tae, a hospital caregiver who works in the psychiatric unit. Weary and burnt out by life’s ongoing responsibilities and challenges, it’s been long since fancies of romantic love were pushed away to the back of his mind.

Oh Jung-se (Stove League) is set to play his older brother, who’s been diagnosed with autism. The two brothers are largely on their own in life and the love they have for each other is offset somewhat by the difficulties Kim Soo-hyun has as Oh’s primary caretaker.

In counterpart, Seo Ye-ji (Lawless Attorney) plays children’s book writer Ko Moon-young. Since birth, she’s never quite understood what love is and struggles with relating to other people. As a result, she often acts superciliously.

Despite their natural inclinations, though, love starts to blossom as Kim Soo-hyun and Seo Ye-ji’s relationship develops. The two find comfort and encouragement in one another, helping each other to learn and grow.

In the newly released teaser, we get a preview of scenes in the drama’s upcoming first episode and it starts with Kim Soo-hyun and Seo Ye-ji having a conversation. Kim tells Seo, “You’re not crazy.” To which she asks, “Then which side do you think I am?” Kim responds, “You were just born that way.”

As they speak, we see Kim Soo-hyun looking up at Seo Ye-ji in a stairwell, who scatters a pile of money around her. Cut to Seo sitting on a throne and looking down at Kim through a window as she says, “It’s pretty. I want it.” It transitions to Kim Soo-hyun trying to block the road as Seo Ye-ji joyrides with a friend and a woman screams, “Kang-tae!” There is a brief shot of Seo Ye-ji collapsed on the ground before cutting away to Oh Jung-se, who is upset. As we see this, Seo speaks in voice-over: “It’s not staying away, it’s more like running away.”

It cuts to a text screen, which reads: “They may appear a little different from you.” In a sequence of shots, we see Kim Soo-hyun and Oh Jung-se’s loving relationship as brothers. The two ride a bus together and walk home hand-in-hand. Kim hugs Oh and warmly says, “Hyung, I don’t need a house, a car, or money.” A second text screen appears afterwards, with the words: “And it may make you lonely sometimes.”

Cut to Seo Ye-ji who brushes Kim Soo-hyun’s hair away from his forehead as she says, “You want to receive affection, I can see it.” And he blinks in response. She continues, “Moon Kang-tae, give him to me.” The teaser comes to an end with a shot of Kim Soo-hyun sitting with Seo Ye-ji at a convenience store.

Written by Jo Yong (Jugglers) and directed by PD Park Shin-woo (Boyfriend), tvN’s It’s Okay to Not Be Okay will be airing on weekends and premieres this Saturday on June 20.

A rom-com? It sounds pretty sad and depressing for a rom-com.

But I can't wait!

To me it looks like melo with bits of comedy and romance scattered, like in life actually...U can't have just tears all the time but some bits of laughter and love in all it's forms as well but we know how dramas tag their shows,in this case it's tagged like 5 generes but clearly rom-com is mistleading as it's melo at the core all day and people who might go into it be dissapointed not being delivered the fluff and light they think would get...
Mentioned before but when i watched the early teasers i felt the same way as with My Ajusshi mood, feel and emotions so hope it will be as great as that...

I’m excited because I’ll finally be able to watch Seo Ye-ji in a leading role. And Kim Soo-hyun! The cameos were not enough.

You can also watch Seo Yea-Ji in other dramas in a leading role, she had the leading role in Last (2015), Moorim School (2016), Save Me (2017) and Lawless Lawyer (2018).

In order to watch those dramas, I have to be in a certain mood. Which rarely comes 😅 I might check out Lawless Lawyer

Not a fan of Kim Soo-hyun and so hadn't paid much attention to news about this drama, but I have to say the teasers have made me curious enough to tune in. I just hope the psychological aspects are handled at least somewhat carefully.

I'm so excited for this. They're both so gorgeous, and I've missed Kim Soo-hyun on my screen. Seo Ye-ji's voice is so lovely, I could listen to her saying anything lol

I am quite lenient when it comes to toxic relationships in movies/dramas but she seems way too scary in the promos. I won't judge it until I see it though, I am just cautious, I don't want to be too dissapointed if it doesn't work for me, it is Kim Soo Hyun's first lead role since his discharge afterall.

(the other thing is omg I don't know if I am the weirdo here but I noticed their faces sometimes look alike and it throws me off. I just hope I won't see it in the drama and I am just having a brain fart.)

So excited for this! I can already feel the pain and struggles in Kim Soo Hyun’s eyes, his acting is so good! Never seen Seo Yi Ji in anything but the teasers look promising. I love the OSTs so far too.

Looking forward to this one...While drama description sounds very melo, some of the clips feel like there is going to be imaginary elements. I have a feeling her being a children's book author will get us her imagination on screen. This can be awesome creative choice. Plus her fashion choices and style makes me very curious.

I have a feeling the description is not really describing the drama and it is going to surprise us. Can't wait!!

Lol despite the premise the images and trailers have been super dramatic with colourful outfits, dialogue, and actions. This had BETTER be funny. If I get one more drama that takes itself too seriously...

I'll be honest. The *only* reason I am interested in this is because Stranger 2 airs immediately after.

I really looking forward to this.

Interesting part that many maybe have noticed witch explain the strangeness in the trailer. PD mention at the press con. that they gonna include fairy tales. From soompi:
"The drama includes fantasy elements and features famous fairy tales such as “The Red Shoes” and “Bluebeard,” as well as tales for adults that were made just for the show. Director Park Shin Woo said, “The female lead character is a writer of cruel fairy tales. The drama is similar to such fairy tales in that they both blur the distinction between normal and abnormal, and common sense and senselessness.”

I am really looking forward to this. The dark fairy tale concept is really intriguing. I am not worried about the acting - watching the trailers is like a treat on the acting department, plus KSH and SYJ looks so good together - so, am really hoping for a good story.

Please, please drama, don't disappoint.
