I have a namjachingu 남자친구

Went back to work so my drama watching time was seriously cut down. Don't know how I'll make it through my list.

Where Your Eyes Linger On episode 6
I've been watching the episodes raw, then subbed and with comments, then with my roommate. Rewatching ftw!
When Tae Joo said Gook needed dating lessons, I thought Tae Joo was going to take him on a date. Tae Joo is pulling away. Tears!
Episode 5 - I was not ready!
The King On episode 6.
Oh, My Baby On episode 7. So Ee Dduem gives sperm, Doc rebuilds friendship and Yisang marries her. Call?
Yi-ri is being honest and mature. I'm here for it.
King is Not Easy On episode 3 rewatch. That twist though!
I've now shown my roommate one time and her and her boyfriend a second the first 2 episodes.
I showed my boyfriend and he's in it so we're rewatching together.
The Brightest Star in the Sky On episode 8.
Psychopath Diary On episode 3.
Dark Kiss and Midnight on episode 3.
How Are U Bread? on episode 3.
Hospital Playlist on episode 1.
I Remember You on episode 2 rewatch. Kyungsoo is powerful for his little screen time. When appa locks Hyeon in the basement, Hyeon looks like he is about to cry. Psychopath or sociopath, one of the two or both, don't cry. Get it together, dad!
Drake&Josh & VicTorious watching random episodes for a fanfiction I'm writing
Rampage it was cool
Spiderman: Homecoming amazing as usual
Never Have I Ever rewatch

I've slowed on EXO media. I've listened to all Exo-K music, their Japanese album, Suho solo, Xiumin solo, Lay solo, Baekhyun solo, Chen solo, Chanyeol solo, EXO-SC, watched a Kris movie, a Chanyeol movie, started a Tao drama, a Suho drama and a Dyo drama

Date night tomorrow!

Wait, wait, wait... First time around, I just skimmed through and didn't catch the most important piece of intel in your comment: you have a BOYFRIEND, and he WATCHES dramas with you!
That is awesome! Please, let us all other Beanies whose partners roll their eyes at kdrama live this vicariously: cuddle up with your guy and enjoy as many dramas as you feel like. You, lucky you!

I've been planning an I Remember You rewatch for a while now. I'm currently rewatching Just Between Lovers. Still not buying Kang Hana's performance. Junho is giving me strong Seo Kang Joon as Baek In Ho vibes.

Lol, the title, How Are You, Bread will never not be funny

Hello beans.

I succumbed to Eternal Monarch PPL and went to The Alley to buy one of it's drinks. I also went grocery shopping....and bought a Jongga kimchi packet.

Yes it is! And how’s the Alley beverage? Is it worth it’s pricey price?

Here one drink from Alley one has to go to a big department store and each drink costs approximately 3 dollars which is already expensive in the place where I live. Have been reluctant to buy it for some weeks now.

The drink was okay. I'm not a big fan of milk tea, i prefer my milk without the tea 🤭. Fyi, this isn't my first time drinking The Alley drinks. I don't drink them often but I tried their derrioca brown sugar milk series before and I liked it. Boba drinks in general is on the pricey side, but once in a while I want to try new hipster drinks 🤣.

Anyways...there are 3 flavours for the king series, but I only tried one yesterday. I want to try the others too. Maybe next time hehe.

After reading your comment I just went to get one. As I am intolerant to both caffeine and lactose so I went for a lemongrass and lemon drink. It was a bit cheaper than the normal milk tea or bubble milk tea choices. My goal is achieved so that's it yeah!

Hello Beanies!!! Happy Friday ( it IS Friday right?)!!
Well I'm now at 12 weeks at home and 11 of those weeks unemployed. It's hard not watching dramas nonstop so I limit myself to starting at 4pm. Note: I don't always follow that rule.

But life has been quietly crazy - and lately just depressing and I'm scared for my country due to the orange turd in our white house who shows no sign whatsoever of any kind of empathy or dignity.
Now I feel for the other countries who have lived under the rule of dictators. Please pray that we can fix our criminal justice system and work to eliminate the systemic racism in this country.

But at least I can come here and read comments and follow the lives of others in this lockdown.
So just to sum up what I'm thinking and feeling this morning is this:
Thank you to all the wonderful Beanies who are here to support each other..
Thank you to all the Beanies who have led me to other fun dramas like Gank Your Heart and Girlfriend and of course Oh My Baby.
But mostly I hope you all are doing well, staying healthy and safe...

Sending lots of warm love and virtual hugs to you all from Oregon...

@stpauligurl Switzerland is a little country with 60% of moutains, so people are pretty much at the same places... The fact we are in center between Italy, France and Germany didn't help. There are ~325'000 borders who cross the border every day to come to work in Switzerland. But once we confined, it helped a lot. Our hospitals hold the shock pretty well, they even could take French people who were sick to help.
In Switzerland, there is the partial unemployment, it means the employee pays a part of the salary and the unemployment fund pays the rest. So a lot of people could keep their job.
It wasn't perfect but I think we did well under the circumstances.

Good to hear that. Maybe I was thinking of Spain and a beanie was talking about the lockdown and hardly going anywhere.
But the countries there worked so hard to keep things in some semblance of control.
and now I will stop my fingers from typing about how many citizens here in the US are so embarrassed at our leadership-or lack thereof...

4

Keep Beaning On! I coined this phrase a few OTs ago to describe Beanies trying to continue living despite being in lockdown. It is a daily challenge, (and I know all too well about breaking the 4 PM rule) and I can only imagine how much harder it must be for you all. I hope Beanies can be your solace and I send you warm love and a big virtual hug back!

Actually, things are pretty good here in Oregon as we shut down VERY early. We haven't seen a huge spike like other states. I'm very grateful for that.

Where is your brother going to school? I'm in Corvallis where Oregon State is located. If I could help with anything I'd be glad to....

Dear @stpauligurl, thank you dearly for your kind words and offer of help. Reading your comment (together with @zzthorn's and @snickers's) made me feel relieved actually. We can only get information of how people are doing in the States from our media, and the news are always about not-so-good news so we were pretty concerned. The systemic racism incident is also another thing that concerns us as we are from Asia.

He's studying at either University of Oregon or Oregon State University (why universities in the States have so similar names? hehe.) Right now it's summer break and if we cannot get him back, we think he'll be alone there for too long before the next term begins. Your offer of help is truly appreciated, but right now I think he's still doing fine.

News organizations need to grab eyeballs so bad stuff like violence, murder, riots, scandals and etc. make headlines. "If it bleeds, it leads." is the motto.

Obviously protest situations in some locations are worse than others but these are temporary. If your brother's university environment was stable in the past, it should be fine soon enough.

Seems like travel between US and some countries will resume in about a month. Whether it is restricted to business travel depends on the countries.

1

Well if he is studying something like Engineering, marine science or Forestry or something along those lines he'll be at Oregon State (OSU) which is in my town.
University of Oregon (UofO) is only 50 miles away but is completely different in so many ways. It is mainly a liberal arts school but they are the big medical university in Oregon.
I understand, but if he ever needs help I can certainly reach out here in Corvallis or Eugene where UofO is located.

1

That is indeed touching @stpauligurl thank you so much. It appears that my brother goes to school at Oregon State University. At least I'm a bit relieved now since I have one American friend Beanie here that I may ask for help if the situation is in any way out-of-hand (which I dearly hope that will never happen in this lifetime.) Again, your generosity is truly appreciated.

Stay safe you too ,and also your loved ones. May the world get its normality and humanity back asap.

1

Yeah he's a BEAVER!!!!! And honestly if he needs anything this old ajumma is happy to reach out a friendly (if a bit too motherly at times) hand.

1

I'm also from Oregon and agree with @stpauligurl that things are not so bad here when it comes to Covid19. I live in one of the ocean communities and until recently, we only had 5 cases (May 6) but then after the tourists arrived the cases exploded within the exposure time and now have something like 26 cases. If your little brother stays away from places like Salem and some of the other highly populated areas and takes precautions of his own he should be okay. Oregon is not one of the states that have been hit hard.

Big huge hug from Germany! Here it is like there is no lockdown at all, but with or without it, the biggest problem is people's indifference. You feel isolated, lonely or even dead before the Corona, now you can imagine...
Of course, there is always here and there few nice people, but they are very few.
At least, most people seem to live under the premise of: "live and let die", so if they don't talk to you, don't help you or don't care about anything, at least they don't mess with you either.

I cannot watch dramas anymore, because I moved last weekend and I don't have internet in the new place.

But reading the comments make me feel my drama tradition is still going on.

Little Boy 375k-415k

Real world chaos is far more exciting and entertaining that fictional media. Eat popcorn and watch as scenes develop.

Little boy helped these incompetent leaders but also exposed them.
Protests in present climate are good or bad can be argued. If you stand up to state then you little boy starts to float around you and if you don't then State starts to take away your rights. All in all, Common man in pinch. Still those saying 2020 is bad have already forgotten the 2nd half of 2019. These were the same wishing everyone happy 2020 aka Preterm Celebration.

Protests always have multiple factors - the initiation factor is mostly a reactionary one. The event that opens the doors of a dam and you see the outburst. Buildup of months and here we see the outcome.
All other events channeling with this event.

2019 protests declared State ramping up its power against its own citizens and using every part of state system to quell anything undesirable. Same going on in 2020 and ofcourse St. peter will remain quite busy in 2nd half of 2020 too.
Bloody Streets. yes. Its in motion.
This will open up opportunities for ambitious ones. Not much cost but huge returns, huge risk of life but reward is equally good.

Happy weekend Beanies and keep Beaning On!

I learnt how to use a food steamer! Hurray!🥳 This is a huge step forward for a novice who only knows microwaves and cannot distinguish between pots and pans!😂 One of my big insecurities is that I am not good at household chores, cooking in particular, because it makes it a lot harder to live on my own someday as a well-functioning adult. It is something that I always wanted to be able to do well, but the timing was always bad.

Nowadays my mother regularly lacks the time or energy to cook, and I grasped the opportunity last Tuesday and convinced her to test my food steamer together. It was a birthday present I received last year and I had been waiting for the green light to get it inside our kitchen.😆 The food was a success and she immediately delegated cooking duty to me for Wednesday as well.😊

We usually do not eat properly on Wednesdays because we care for my sister’s kids all day and my mother is too tired to cook afterwards, so I am hoping she will let me take over on Wednesdays from now on. She is aware that the food is a lot healthier that way, and sometimes even tastier, so the fact that she vowed to pay more attention to how and when to prepare certain foods gives me hope that it will not be a one-time thing.🙏

No matter what the future brings, I shall not starve! 🍴👩‍🍳

"No matter what the future brings, I shall not starve!" This made me chuckle. As they say, achievement unlocked!

I'm not very good at cooking, mainly because I'm really slow at ingredient prep. So I usually end up making sandwiches when I have to cook for myself, which would be fine except I'm used to having rice + dishes (thanks to my mum who feeds me) >.<

Hello fellow drama-addicts! My dramaworld keeps getting fuller and fuller. My brother-in-law and sister-in-law are watching Romance is a Bonus Book and The King as well. I just found that out last evening. My sister is actively watching, My mom keeps "stealing" my VIKI access and has seen a million dramas, secretary is drowning in dramas, and respiratory therapist as well. I have so many people to talk about dramas with!

But right now, it's all about The Romance of Tiger and Rose, and it is so adorable, I've started to gif again.

And I'll be participating in #whitecoatsforblacklives today at 12 CST by kneeling for 8 min 46 sec today in front of my hospital. It's in protest against racism towards the African American community in the US, and in solidarity with all races, genders, creeds, and orientations as we build a better, more just and tolerant society.

No morals today, just be good to people.

It does my heart good to hear about your hospital’s protest ❤️

Ohlala, you have real-life dramabuddies! And dramabuddies of your own making, that's impressive! Earlier today I was checking out the super funny The King stickers that The Swoon has got on Giphy, wondering if I could use them as reaction captions on WhatsApp, and came to the sad conclusion that nobody in my contacts would get them. I live in a dramadesert (*sigh)

Happy Friday, Beanies! I hope all of you are safe and healthy.

I spent all morning sending photos of Baeksang awards to my sister and following the event through Twitter.
It's the first time I have followed it and it was fun. I needed something like that after these crazy months and all the work and study.

Have a good weekend! 😊

Hello Beannies, my classes start next week. They sent out a list of things we should and things we should not. It is a 3 pages document. I am not nervous, but... Anyway, went on a crazy binge last Sunday and watched 5 episodes of World of married, all at once. I havent watched the series since then, I think it was too much to process. Watched My First First Love and its cute. It is just what I needed. Netflix Germany came out with a lot of new titles and they just added a bazillion more for the next few weeks. I am in a debate if I should re-watch something or watch something new.

Tried Mystic Pop-up Bar and... its not there yet. Tried A Piece of Your Mind, once again and... I cant.

Hi Beanies, I have some non-Korean shows to recommend. They are not new, but I just recently watched on Netflix and really enjoyed.

Sex Education - refreshing, funny, and heartwarming. The cast brings to life very lovable characters.

American Vandal - Whodunit told through documentary style. Well written and will have you guessing. Too bad there are only two seasons.

Lovesick - sort of like a British version of Ross and Rachel's story. Likable characters but everyone sleeps with everyone.

Never have I ever - minority teen growing up in Los Angeles. Easy watch, funny and entertaining.

Village Survival - Korean variety show that had me in stitches! I cannot get enough of this comedy + mystery show. I wish there were more episodes in each season. Thanks to the beanies that recommended this gem!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone! Let me know if you have any similar shows to the ones above to recommend.

I love Lovesick- it's severely underrated and managed to portray each relationship in a thoughtful manner. I especially enjoyed the third season due to more character development for Angus and Luke.
I also recently finished Never Have I Ever and thought it had a pleasant supporting cast!
Consider checking out Kim's Convenience, a sitcom centering on the life of a Korean-Canadian family who owns a grocery store. The "kids" are in their early twenties and since one of them works in a car rental place, the show also has a workplace sitcom aspect to it. Consistently hilarious and heartfelt.

After delaying again and again for two years, I started watching My Ahjussi starring IU and Lee Seon Kyun this week. I realized that I should never judge a book by it’s cover.
The drama was so dark (pun-intended for scenes in early episodes). I had to increase my screen brightness because I thought I lowered mine, and it turned out the scenes are indeed dark. I was quite skeptical about IU as Lee Jian but she did such a wonderful job. Lee Seon Kyun was superb as always, and all of the other casts too, perfect.

But, believe me, I thought I did the right thing watching it, especially at this time. I’m having a hard time career-wise and the drama comfort me in a realistic way, through every character. I finished the drama in 3 days, and I cried as much as One Litre of Tears made me cry. I personally think the ending scene is perfectly done.
I’m feeling pleasant empty after the drama and now, I have two options. To revise the director’s previous works (Signal/ Misaeng) or to start watching IU’s Hotel Del Luna.
Can I get your opinions, beanies? Wishing a wonderful weekend for everyone.

I enjoyed Signal and Misaeng but could not get through Hotel Del Luna, which seemed to be a recycle of KDrama tropes and The Grand Budapest Hotel (which I thought was an excellent movie), with a little Harry Potter thrown in.

If you're having some problem career wise and need comfort, Misaeng would be the closest one out of your three options. Mind you that some scenes may hit too close to reality so they can be hard to watch. But they're not as dark as My Ahjussi.

I'm not watching much right now as my attention span is just not there.
However, I binged Hospital Playlist to catch up before its finale. I loved it. It was wonderful and though made beforehand it was some how the perfect drama for quarantine.

I'm slowly watching Oh, Mama as it is a victim of the lack of attention. Jang Nara is great as always.

Road to Kingdom is reminding me why I often have a hard time with elimination shows.

How Do You Play? Only watching the episodes that have to do with Yoo Jae Suk, Lee Hyori, and Rain putting together their coed group. I love how Rain is embracing this unexpected resurgence and Hyori is a delight, lol.

Finally in time for an open thread.

I've been on a C-drama binge lately. I recently finished watching "Under the Power" and really enjoyed it....started "The Untamed" after reading SO MANY reviews of it being amazing ....I cannot force myself to watch past episode 9. I don't really understand why I can't seem to get into it - I love WuXia shows but this one is sooooo slowwwwww......

Anyone have any good recommendations for new C-dramas?

I just binged "Gank your Heart" and "Girlfriend" and liked them both. But I've come to the conclusion that the production value in kdramas is certainly much better.
But these stories are sweet.

onto some c-drama, too. Love Designer is my ongoing one, with Dilraba and Huang June. Binged "My Story for Me". The latter has Reply drama feels. A true story, I think, of a popular writer (their JK Rowling) who was one of the pioneers of their internet. Good actors, Luo Jin and Zhang Zhuang. Before these I enjoyed Go Go Squid. Enjoy the feels...

Some Untamed fans advised skipping the first 10-12 eps. After the later eps grabs you, the eps you've skipped will be "easy".

I think I have started about 20 C-dramas over the past couple years, and only been able to finish one - and wish I could have that time back in my life. I dunno why, I guess I just find them so cheesy and unrealistic.

Required fields are marked *

At first I have exactly thought as you, except NiF everything just so cheesy just like K-dramas in 2000-2015 lol. But recently kdramas are too boring and I'd like to watch some historical dramas so I watch Legend of Miyue and it was pretty decent. Now I need to extra careful whenever pick C-Dramas because it feels like 70% of them are not my cup of tea.

There are so many dramas to watch for me. Hospital Playlist is a heart-warming watch. I’m loving most of The Kong’s episodes (even though I found the last couple of episodes quite boring.) I’m saving When the Weather is Fine for tiresome days. I’ve just begun watching Goblin again because I like Kim Go-uen in The King but couldn’t get past her annoying character and the age gap thing between the leads, so I stopped after 2 episodes. The story is too tragic for my liking, but that handsome face of Gong Yoo.... 🥺

I’m considering beginning either one of thee shows after I’m finished with The King:
- My Unfamiliar Family
- It’s OK not to be Ok.
- Be Melodramatic
- Reply 1988

Working my way through Reply 1988 currently (Ep 11 so far)
It's really good and by the same Writer / Director team as Hospital Playlist. Some great heart warming moments in 1988.

Fully recommend Be Melodramatic, really enjoyed the story and the characters.

Thanks for the recommendations @ajusshi! I cried for every episode of HP. The only thing that prevented me from watching Reply 1988 so far is how old the show looks for me. I really like something vibrant or beautiful to look at.

1988 was the year I was born in so it’s quite special for me too actually..

I'm one of those that can't watch classic dramas because of how outdated they look compared to current dramas. Funnily enough, I have no such issue with the Reply series. Although the settings befit the era, the pacing and style of the storytelling are inkeeping to our present days. I think once you get passed the retro styling, you'll get the warm and heart that you love in HP from Reply. 1988 is definitely my fave outbof the series, followed by 1994.

But, if retro is not your thing, Prison Playbook is probably a closer watch to Hospital Playlist.

I'd go for Reply 1988. I tried watching Prison Playbook but the prison thing is really not my thing. Just looking at the scenes in the prison already made me feel anxious.

I'm the same as @yn00na and yourself. I'm only a year older and don't like period dramas from any country. I can't connect to them.

But 1988 is diffrent, it doesn't place the importance in technology but more with the characters, there are references that i had to look up but, that only added to the fun.

All the more reasons to watch 1988 then!

Be Melo is probably the most innovative drama I've seen, and totally brings both feels and humor (and there they are on the photo attached to this thread!). Although I feel as though I may need to watch it again to REALLY get it.

Almost done with Reply 1988 and it has grown on me as it has gone on. Can't go wrong with either show, though. Probably need to see both eventually to be complete in DramaLand.

Not seen Goblin yet as I keep putting it off as a destination watch.

And, finally, have not been able to convince myself to start The King. Good idea?

Hehe thanks @oppa99! Probably need to watch both I guess.

In terms of the King, I’d say that jump in if you want to watch beautiful scenes and people (figuratively) and some nice and catchy music just like the others of the writer’s previous work (i.e. Goblin, DotS). For me, it’s like a fairy tale and a meditative watch because all I can see are beautiful scenes with not so much sense. It’s like you’ll need to finish the whole show in order to make sense of everything that has happened in every episode.

Also felt that the editing was a lot tighter. I'm confident now that this drama will wrap up nicely.

Hello all:

Still loving the dramas i was loving last week.

Khondae Intern is neatly slice of life and yet also good drama.

Mystic Pop up is so touching.

Born Again..is totally over-the-top makjang romance.

I've got to get back to Sweet Munchies even though the situation is stressing me out.

Cdramas
Tiger and Rose is just so sweet and silly.

I think i will go back and finish I've fallen for you cdrama. It's one of the silliest fun dramas i've seen in a while.

Missing Person -- a scifi cdrama thriller about time reversal..i think. Kinda reminds me of Reset. Although so far, i haven't seen the specfic part of it yet. Am only at episode 2 but am liking it a lot.

Have a great weekend, all.
