hi beanies!! I hope you all had a good week! mine was pretty long and tedious. job interviews + work + classes. still, it was pretty good though! the korean mart near my house finally restocked, so I snagged a box of hotteok mix. I can’t wait to make my own!! (insert that screencap of Kim Soohyun in The Producers clutching a plastic bag of hotteok.)

I’m spending my Friday night rewatching bits of Rookie Historian. I miss watching Haeryung and Min Woowon interact :(

Hi Beanies! Just wanted to pop in and thank everyone for contributing to the new Beanie playlist that weekend! Here is the final product (in the comments so it doesn't get stuck in moderation)! I’ve been listening to it nonstop since it was completed. We do have great taste in music! I have two versions, the YouTube version which is true to Beanies’ suggestions and a Spotify playlist which I’ve taken several liberties when I couldn’t find exactly what was posted, or found other versions of the same song that Spotify has in its library!

It’s a labor of love! I’m also going to be curating a playlist of Romantic period classical music while watching “Do you like Brahms?” This show has my soul because of its music. The first couple are on my wall. This week, I’m putting together music that remind me of the love triangles in this show and the relationships between the couples. My classical repertoire is not as expansive as some here, but I hope you all enjoy it.

Okay, back to work. It’s been a somber week this week, but I’m glad to have kdramas to lift my spirits! Be safe and healthy, Beanies!

Little Boy - 915k - 19 September. going on

1015k - 19 October - momentum is up. fall season and then initiation of cold season so can work.

Gonna try my hands at forex trading for the 1st time.
I'm still thinking someone earning 500k+ $(after paying all taxes) should be called rich or not.

Living with parents can't be -ve at all. Young people were living with elders in 2008-09 and they are doing the same now in 2020. Money matters. Every $ saved is $ earned. common sense. They could have used that common sense earlier too and would have built good savings by now.
Either buy your own arena or live with parents.
Buying house on loan - meh
rent rooms, flats - meh.
Superb - meh - mostly
countryside - woah to meh. depends upon location and local administration.
Main city - yeah - better would be in more green posh areas.
House in foreign land - woah - +ve

Same for traveling as a tourist. You go this n that location and bunch of crowd is already there. You see more artificial colours, scenery and light than the natural one.
Little Boy provided such a beautiful opportunity to travel world but it also comes up with a steep price and hassle.
Imagine yourself basking in the glory of Kyoto. You and You alone. No other human in sight. Everything is for you.
That's why i say if you want to travel then travel alone with maximum freedom.

Signing with an American series can be more of a curse than a blessing. You're likely to find yourself saddled with a six year contract on an awful show that just refuses to die. Imagine if, for example, if 'Melting Me Softly' had chained Wookie to a six year contract.

Hello Beans,

I watched the 3th episode of "Do you like Brahms?" yesterday and there is a moment in the episode where he talks about silence. He would travel to competitions and he could not sleep because everybody was practicing and in those times, silence (for him to rest), was like a sweet gift. But, as he progress to the next rounds, people were eliminated and then there is silence.......... And that silence, which was a gift before, becomes something sad and melancholic. And he is there, won first place, but all alone, in silence.

I dont know why, but this last week, I feel like this. Maybe because summer is almost over and there will be even less people outside. I didnt enjoy the summer (for obvious reasons) as the previous years, and it felt weird. Maybe because I know, soon it will be dark at 5pm. It, the silence, hasnt bother me since the quarantine started (my boss is germ phobic, and we were asked to do homeoffice before even the quarantine started). I dont know what it is. I am trying to do a few things, visit a friend, do a drawing course, go for a walk in park, but there is still a bit of sadness on all of this.

There're time when even the silence taking a shape and start to talk to you. You think you're going crazy, but the silence is your one and only friend at the moment who tries to console you 😄 when no body else does. I name my silence friend: Silence. We like each other, spend so much time together.

hi beanies! happy friday!
@juniebug, fight for my way is an EXCELLENT recommendation!! i started tuesday and i’m on episode 5 already. i really like that the drama is funny but is also serious— it talks about achieving your dreams and i feel so much for each of the characters, especially aera, i just want to see her succeed. i was sold from the first episode when dongman bumped into aera’s school friend and the temptation of wives theme song started playing, I DIED. i really love the bgms the drama plays for humor too! when park seo joon’s jealous it kinda reminds me of what’s wrong with secretary kim character (pyo yejin + hwang bora reminded me of that drama too!) but i think dongman is more similar to park saeroyi from itaewon class because he has so much grit and determination, which i love. dongman is a sort of a blend of the two, but he also has other qualities and a backstory that’s totally unique. i also like that the romance and friendships seem very natural and relatable in this show. and choi woo shik’s cameo character is SO FUNNY, i find myself smiling each time he comes on. i’ll probably be done with the show by next week, but i don’t want it to end it’s so good!!
how was record of youth? i might start it for bogum and it releases weekly so i won’t end up binging eps!
andddd senior year has begun! it’s just super weird to have all my classes via zoom. i’d almost have real school instead of zoom just to have side conversations with my friends again, BUT i am much, much less stressed than i was during actual school. i like all of my classes except for… choir.
some background about my choral journey... music is my life. i’ve loved listening to music and singing since a young age, and i’m always humming or singing. this is my tenth year of choir. i got into the advanced choir in my high school my sophomore year, and my choir teacher was LEGENDARY-- she really pushed us to become better musicians. and we were so good that we performed at the national memorial day concert and parade in dc, and at carnegie hall, both of which are the best moments of my life. i also had a great environment with my sunbaes (ok i know i should use upperclassmen but saying sunbaes just sounds cooler).

but my teacher retired sophomore year and we got a new one, fresh from college. he doesn’t challenge us musically or use our advice when we recommend pieces or give feedback. he also isn’t strict at all, which might sound good, but has caused others to fool around and stop taking class seriously. and this year… i have zoom choir, which just doesn’t function. we didn’t get invited to any other out-of-school events either.

i’m now considering if i should drop the class. i’m alto section leader right nowt-- a position i’ve dreamed of having since 6th grade. i’ve loved music for my whole life. but i’m not going to grow as a musician this year and i don’t know if i can get through this class. beanies, help! what should i do?

Ah, a fellow singer! :-) The power of singing in a choir feeds the soul, so I can imagine how difficult this new situation is for you. Congratulations on being a section leader! You're clearly dedicated and passionate, so this sounds well-deserved. It's always a challenge to be in a role like that, and now it's compounded by your virtual situation, but it could be an amazing way to grow your own leadership skills, musically and otherwise. I think you can still grow if you stay in the class - maybe you won't be challenged as much as a musician, but this could be a valuable experience as a musical leader. But I'm also a big believer in letting go of things that don't serve you. Are there other outlets or opportunities for you to connect with music in ways that will charge you up vs drain you? And if you do decide to stick with it, I encourage you to keep speaking up - to your teacher and to your classmates - and advocating for the best choir you can have. Maybe speak with like-minded colleagues and see if strength in numbers will help? You are doing a great job - and keep singing! :-) I'm wishing you a successful year, no matter what!

thank you so much :) ! me and a few other friends are debating if we should leave or not-- we love choir so much, but not THIS. i do classical music (of my culture) outside of school, and i'll definitely do acapella or choir in college. i just am so torn because i don't want to be unhappy in my class senior year, but i've done choir my whole life... and i want to keep leading and setting an example, i know my previous teacher would want me to carry her legacy. i'm going to stick it out for a few more classes and make a decision then.

also just out of curiosity, what voice part were you? :)

I sing soprano. :-) How about you?

It sounds like you're approaching this in a really solid way. I'm sure you'll make the decision that's right for you. As for your college essay, it's clear just from what you wrote here how much it's already shaped you and how passionate you feel about it. Deciding not to participate in THIS choir doesn't automatically say something negative about you. It can also say that you love music and you value making music in an environment that's supportive, meticulous and serious about good musicianship (or whatever your criteria are). So you stopped THIS choir (if you decide to do so) so that you would be able to give yourself 100% to another choir that was more in line with what you value in one and allows you to be the kind of musician you want to be in the best possible way. You don't want to settle - and, in my opinion, that's an excellent quality in a candidate for a choir and a college!

I'm sure you'll make the right call for you. (And now I'll get off my soapbox!)

congrats on the start of senior year! it’s been a while since I was in high school, but I remember my senior year well. take care of yourself and your mental health well!

I did choir for years and years, so I totally relate!! Singing is such a magical thing. I’m sorry to hear you’re not finding choir as fulfilling right now. My advice is to think about how your senior year is going to be. Personally, mine was really busy and it just became difficult for me to keep up with music. I was taking a lot of what I think would be your equivalent of AP classes because I was gunning to get into a good law school. Music had to take a natural back seat. But if you think you need to have that break from the academic stuff, stick with it even though it isn’t at challenging anymore! It may still be a good source of happiness/comfort that you can rely on when things get tough. But of course, you know best, so if it’s looking like it will cause you more stress/unhappiness, just drop it! You can always go back to choral singing or maybe even find a choir outside of school. Do what’s best for you!

thank you so much 🥺 i'm taking a bunch of aps this year, so i think my year will be a bit stressful. choir has typically been the class i can relax in, but it was pretty disheartening last year to see what our choir had become-- i know we have so much potential that isn't being used. two of my friends also said they would drop if i did, and we're all section leaders so... i think the teacher would be slightly flustered, especially since i managed and organized singing valentines-- people buy singing grams from the choir on valentine's day and it's super fun!-- and the new teacher didn't know what to do so i had to run it with a few sunbaes last year. i think if i drop the class, i'd probably be less frustrated, but i'm worried i would regret the decision in the future.

i'm gonna try some more classes for now and see what happens. the good thing about zoom school is i just listen to music or watch tv when i'm annoyed at the teacher (HEEHEE)

You can’t know that you’re not going to grow musically this year, you never know what will happen. Perhaps speak to your retired choir director just about getting some advice about this new zoom deal and missing her. It might lead you to some new ideas. Maybe your teacher will be more open to choir members’ suggestions This year especially because everything’s so wonky now. Maybe you can get ideas from other choirs on social media and promote them for your choir. I think you still can do your Valentine’s Day fundraiser but it will be a challenge. I would not stop singing in the choir, whatever the choir becomes this year. It will be a great learning experience and cockeyed memory that you’ll share with other choristers when you get to college. Don’t worry about the choir not being invited to perform, I don’t think anyone is performing anywhere at present. It does suck that this had to happen in your Senior year when you had so many hopes, but it’s good to learn that everything isn’t going to go the way you want and how to make do with what you have. I promise, this will happen in college and in your work life as well. You can update your college essays with writing about how you got through this difficult time. And here’s one crazy suggestion that I did when I got bored in HS choir, I started a girls barbershop quartet. It seemed kind of hokey but the harmonies are amazing and I learned so much!
I recommend a great movie about a choral conductor and singing, “Robert Shaw: Man of Many Voices”, it’s available through PBS. Promise, it will make you feel good about singing 😮🎶

sure, i don't know if i will improve this year, but i didn't grow as a musician last year. half of the choir knew 2 of the pieces he picked for us because we'd done them... in middle school. and when we asked if we could try other pieces instead of the old ones, he said no. i feel kinda bad because my teacher is a nice person, but he is not a great choir director. i might reach out to my old director and find out what to do, and i'll def add that movie to my list, thank you !

On my separated post, I had discussed about Channel A:

Since Channel A didn't give ratings anymore since Eccentric! Chef Moon (see: https://asianwiki.com/Eccentric!_Chef_Moon under Episode Ratings) didn't rated anymore with the final two episodes, Lies of Lies might never reached the ratings anymore. It's a rating disaster even this show. I hope Channel A will shut down due to lack of ratings or no ratings given at all.

Do you mean the Seoul rating, which was 3.089%? Nationwide was 2.577%.

All ratings are on Naver. Lies of Lies is far from a ratings disaster. Why hope Channel A shuts down due to lack of ratings and have all their staff lose their jobs?

Was expecting to start working on Monday, but a week went by and I'm still waiting to be called. It's ok, I'm used to not having a stable position and this happens sometimes, but the thing is that I ended up with a lot of time in my hands. Cue to remembering reading something about BTS visiting the kids at I-land show, and checking out ep 7. I don't usually watch survival/reality/talent shows, so I wasn't really expecting to get hooked to a bunch of 15 year old trainees but, oh dear, what a rabbit hole I fell into! I sure hope those boys don't drop out of school, and the show is clearly designed to stress them out, and at first I was a bit icky, like, is it really ok such young kids to be under so much pressure? But they're all insanely young and talented and I started to realize that it's not much different from the experience of young athletes, and if this is what they want to do, this probably is a good chance to learn a lot and get their faces out there. I really don't want any of those kiddos to get kicked out, but, Beanies, I so hooked that I learned all their names and got my favourites. I'm going to be so sad if they don't get their break.
The stuff they were pulling off was actually good - and "Flicker", one of the songs produced just for the show, is a bop!

Hope you guys will soon have light to moderate rain for a few days to wash the particulates out the air as well as off everything outdoors.

I've been thinking about everyone on the west coast (and on the east side of the Cascades as well). It's truly terrible here. I have many friends who've evacuated, or are ready to go. I'm lucky to have both A/C and great air filtering systems, but every time I have to leave the house it takes time for my eyes to stop burning.

Hoping @stpauligurl will check in soon - I hope you're safe and have some clean air to breathe @stpauligurl.

Stay safe! The pictures and footage are hard to see, I can't even imagine what it's like for you. Glad you have good air filtration and can stay indoors comfortably.

Thanks for checking in @ndlessjoie. I meant to check in yesterday. The fires are north, south and east of me and all about 50-80 miles away.
So we are covered with smoke and ash all the time. But we are not in any danger.

I'm doing okay here - but our air quality on Wednesday in my town was the worst in the whole state!

It is surreal to see everything in an orange light. I too have friends who know people who had to evacuate. I go outside as little as possible and my eyes also start to burn. Unfortunately I don't have an air purifier but it's okay.
Still struggling to find a job and keep positive when the world around me feels like the apocalypse - so I'm watching dramas to keep my mind off everything.
You stay safe too!!!!
We are supposed to get rain Monday night.

So glad to hear you're okay. As much as I dislike rain, we could really use some all along the west coast.

Yes I agree and hope I'm not complaining about the incessant rain come Jan and Feb.....

Awful air quality where I'm at also. Little bits of ash falling like rain. Definitely not a good time to be outside.

Be careful and stay safe!

Hi everyone. Can I rant a little about that drama that I’m not watching but keeps getting in my face?
Beanies that are watching ‘When I was the prettiest’ how is it going?
I’m not watching the drama but I saw some clips of this drama on IG and it’s really stupid.
I know I shouldn’t judge the drama because I don’t really know much about what’s going on there but The comments are even more annoyingly stupid.
So her husband went missing and her brother in law who used to/still likes her is telling her to move on and accept that he’s dead? And people are rooting for him to get the girl just because it’s Ji soo that’s playing the character I mean, she’s his brother’s wife for crying out loud!
Maybe I’m just getting into my feelings/morals or just jumping the gun but it’s really weird and if I’m missing the whole point can anyone please enlighten me?

I'm watching it and I'm not appreciating Ji Soo's energy. It has an obsessive edge and while Ye Ji is blowing in the wind and giving mixed signals, and for definite Carrie has Jin locked up Misery-style, it's too weird, too aggressive

I dropped it after watching 2 episodes. I saw some posts in IG too and I think it’s bad. I like Ji Soo, Im So Hyang and HSJ but the story is not for me.

No, agree - it's an uncomfortable watch. So much that's happening that just shouldn't be happening, not least a student teacher behaving so inappropriately with a student. Female lead charavter also one of the most irritating characters I've watched in a while - seems to have accepted her lot in life is to be beaten down. Dropped it after 4 and won't be going back. 😀

With how many strong and resilient female leads we’ve been getting these days, it’d be hard to watch her take everything thrown to her.😁

Hi all:
It's a lovely pre-fall day. Unseasonally cold but i'm not complaining. My friends in the west are having a hard time of it. Those pics of the western skies are awesome and disturbing at the same time. So when i got up this morning, i went to my garden and dragged some of my tropical type plants onto my front porch.

Dramas:
Stranger -- I love this show so much. Who would think a show about evil insiders, bullying, and murder is really about friendship, fellowship, colleagues, alliances. This is one sweet show about friendships and the basic truth seems to be that we humans cannot help but love each other, even when we hate them or can't understand them. The prosecutors' relationships to each other totally exemplify this but so does Choi Bit's relationship with Taeha. The writer of this drama has chosen a noble theme.

Man with a Veil -- Is this yet another kdrama protag with some kind of damaged brain issue?

Alice -- Loving this. This is really one of the best super-hero origin stories i've seen in a kdrama. Hoping it ends wonderfully.

Flower of Evil -- I love our main couple but i'm not sure i'll love the ending episodes as much as i loved the first episodes. I can tell when exactly my love faded. Episode 11. It just kinda clicked into normal thriller trope when the accomplice became known. It's as if two different writers wrote it or the writer just slipped into lazy kdrama trope of having the big bad predictably in plain site.

Missing -- the other side -- fun, and i love it that we have a murderer on the other side. Am tired of the whole lost inheritance/missing heir trope.

Chinese dramas
Murderous Affair at Horizon Tower on wetv.vip is good.

Watching #Alive on Netflix. Fun.
Awaiting School Nurse Files which looks like totally goofy fun.
May watch "Tale of Youth" on Netflix

That's about it. Have a safe weekend, all.

ugh, really? i have to wait for eps to load on viki bc some illegal streaming site gave my laptop a virus. so far, viki only has up to ep 8 :(

i feel like most of the problems with kdramas nowadays are not bc of the actors-- it's usually because the writing or plot gets boring or predictable

I've been waiting for it to finish airing so that I could binge FoE...is its fall from grace so bad that maybe I shouldn't bother? My to-watch list is long enough, but it did seem intriguing.

It just turned into a regular kdrama. It's not very bad, just that it became predictable. We do have 4 more episodes to go so it might redeem itself. It started as an almost intimate character story and became a thriller.

Although I do understand the comments pertaining to the latest episodes, I don't know, I'm still having fun watching Flower of Evil.

I live underneath those western skies you've been seeing and yes, it's surreal. It's smoky and ashy everywhere!

Take care and have a good weekend also!

I’m loving Record of Youth, Do you Like Brahms, and Flower of Evil. Also Favorite Entertainment, an idol trot group is fun and well done. BoA on Ask Us Anything was total girl crush as always, Queen of Kpop !

@skidmoresy
Hi from Corvallis!
I was talking to my brother Monday evening and realized the sun was red in the sky and then I watched the smoke fill the air as I watched.... My brother lives in Eugene and we both watched things change so fast while we were on the phone.
We're very lucky here that the fires aren't outside our doors - but our air quality has been BAD.

The air was so bad that even the birds sat it out on Tuesday and Wednesday they weren't at the feeders or even flying and singing. The only ones that haven't stopped are the hummingbirds at my feeders so they have kept me entertained.
It was just silent and still outside and reminded me of times when it would snow in MN and everything is silent and muffled by the snow.

It is awful everywhere and now Portland is threatened by the fires and smoke!

But it gives me an excuse to stay inside and watch dramas...
Stay safe everyone!!!!

I just watched the most PECULIAR thing.
IU put out a Youtube video four days ago where she's playing a very polite new receptionist named Lee JiDong. She answers the phone, answers callers' questions in a *very quiet whisper*. The video's a whopping 38 minute long and IU stays in character the whole time. The hook is they're using ASMR, extremely sensitive microphones so you can listen to her chewing and swallowing. It was 2/3rds company promo, 1/3rd *bizarre performance art*. Its weird. Its just plain weird. Google IU ASMR

Hey now Beanies!
I have been out of the K-drama game for a few years. Now that I want to tap back in, all my drama go to channels have dried up. Any suggestions for sites or firestick channels/ add ons would be helpful. Thank you in advance.
