Hello, Beanies! I hope all is well in your part of the globe. Here we are taking deep breaths; with most of us feeling so much better about the state of affairs.

I am madly in love with Run On. I am adding the writer to the stable of 'writers I will follow to the gates of hell' ....fingers crossed she lands the ending!

I don't remember life before Run On.
Also, I trust this writer and feeling positive about the ending. It won't be dramatic, but just right.

Long Post Alert:

Popularity management is part of the publicity machine. When the Korean Business Research Institute has reveals each month’s brand reputation rankings for drama actors, idols, etc., the
rankings are determined through a data analysis of the media coverage, participation, interaction, and community indexes thorough key word analysis, which can include terms like “ratings,” “malicious rumors,” “cool,” “love,” and “collect.” Then a positivity-negativity analysis is calculated to get a total brand reputation index number. It becomes a monthly report card to producers and advertisers.

Therefore, managing negative comments is an important part of a star’s brand reputation. China social platforms and media are the biggest source of negative comments and rumors about Korean celebrities. Those malicious comments and stories naturally flow back into Korea social media forums and search engine results.
In late January, Son Ye Jin surprised her followers by opening a new Chinese social media account. For 6 1/2 years, she had not posted anything in her prior Chinese account. But apparently throughout 2020, Chinese posts regularly had negative comments about her, CLOY, her dating rumors, her age, beauty, etc. She has been very active in checking SNS to the point of tricking her fans but liking dating posts while denying them. There probably has to be a connection between posting a nice picture and a warm thank you to her Chinese fans (who she may have felt neglected). SYJ is very savvy about promotion, image and how fans react to her. It is foremost in her mind because during the last award speech she said she would “repay” all the fan love and support shown to her. That may be a tall task to accomplish. As CLOY ended, her IG followers increased 350 percent from the prior year. As dating rumors and denials in 2020 plus CLOY’s continued success overseas rose her fan base to 4. 2 million (an overall 480 percent increase from last year.) There has to be great pressure managing this surge in personal popularity.
Also, it may be a away to re-introduce herself to the broader China market. She did a China-SK-Hong Kong film, "Bad Guys Always Die" in 2015., The film was released in China on November 27, 2015 and in South Korea on January 7, 2016 (it made only $84,000 in Korea and $4.9M in China). It was one of her worst box office films. If she wants a challenge and correct this, she has been studying English to do a film (and connect better to foreign fans). Hong Kong could be a place when the travel restrictions ease and film production comes back to normal.

But the reason why CLOY was so successful and popular for such a long time continues to be a subject of debate. It had basic Korean themes and drama tropes. It had a good cast. As previously discussed, it had more fan than critical acclaim. But the intense connection to the show may have been because it aired during the middle of winter. And the fan frenzy of the January 1st Dispatch confirmation also occurred in the dead of winter. If you look at it objectively, all of 2020 was one long winter (of discontent) in isolation/stay at home. There may be a scientific basis as the reason.
Sociologists and Relationship experts call winter months the “cuffing season,” or the period of the year when people are drawn to monogamy. As a recent BBC article asked the question: For many people across the world who followed the guidance during the pandemic, this year has meant restricted socializing. Are we choosing to couple-up and stay together instead?

The phenomenon is defined as the time where, if you’re single, you might be looking to couple up with someone new at the start of winter and stay in that relationship until spring. Interest in "cuffing season" peaks in northern hemisphere between October and February before dropping off entirely over the summer.
You only have to flick through lists of seasonal movies at this time of year to be offered up a virtual selection box of couple-themed romantic comedies. And there might be a good reason why: Feeling physically cold increases how well audiences like, and are willing to pay for romantic films because viewers already associated romance movies with warm feelings – so could perhaps imagine themselves warming up while watching them. There’ is something about colder nights and shorter days that seems to make people want romantic story lines.
It is tempting to hunker down and wait for spring to brighten our moods before we think about socializing out and about. There is a basic instinct toward attraction of the opposite sex during winter months (even if one does not look their best). Data shows more babies are conceived in winter months.
If humans need this seasonal downtime to rest and recharge – and if so, where does that need come from? Or has modern life conditioned us to be less social in the winter?
The seasons have a profound impact on our psychologies, from our tendency to avoid taking risks to being less sociable and wanting to hunker down as if ready for hibernation. The amount of natural light, and our use of artificial light at night, has been linked to seasonal mood disorders. Our serotonin levels (a hormone that helps us to regulate our mood) decrease along with the drop in bright sunlight.
Researchers also believe there is a connection about coldness that has a unique effect on attraction. Some research has found that heterosexual men, for example, find women’s bodies more attractive in winter than in summer. The researchers proposed this was due to the contrast effect. This...

This effect describes why something unique or different to the norm can be more appealing. In this case, it is less common to see images of people in swimwear in the winter, so the uniqueness makes them more attractive.

While the weather might cause a natural dip in our outlook, there’s another reason humans are more likely to couple up, or stay in a relationship, in winter that is all our own creation. Winter in the northern hemisphere coincides with religious celebrations, the New Year in Gregorian and Chinese calendars and other events like Valentine’s Day.

Cuffing season overlaps with these events – if you have a partner it is easier to stay with them than break up just before. “There can be pressures we feel from family, friends and our environment to be coupled up, but I also think that this pressure we feel is subconscious. From what I’ve seen, there are some people who don't want to end a relationship around this time of year either. I see people stay in relationships for the sake of not rocking the boat or ending up alone during this time,” a researcher said in the BBC article.

But even outside of romantic relationships, holiday dates like these can change behavior.

People use New Year is a day to evaluate their lives – comparing it to what they thought they’d achieve, what they thought they’d have by now, and that can come with disappointment. Short-term failure, be it not meeting our goals or failing to succeed our own expectations, can cause us to over react and give up. If New Year is a reminder that we didn’t meet the goals we set 12 months ago we might just give them up completely. When this happens, our setbacks or what we deem to be failures, cause us to retreat. If everyone else is setting New Year resolutions, or gearing up for Valentine’s Day it’s hard not to think of our own progress in those respects.

Winter does not have to be a time to make great changes to our lives, but experts think it important to understand where those feelings come from. “At our core we’re living this evolutionary pattern to get together, form a pack and stay alive,” the article stated. “But at the same time we’re getting bombarded by this idea that being alone during winter is not how you should be experiencing this time of year.” People are so connected to media that they find solace in their dramas and romance novels as a coping mechanism for cultural definitions of loneliness until they get the courage to try to change their dating lives in the real world.

It is an interesting overlap between sociology, cultural pressures and seasonal variances. There appears to be a push and pull between what people are expected to do and what the natural course of evolution subconsciously tells us what to do.

Are people more drawn to warm and fuzzy stories during the winter months? And because the pandemic kept us in isolation like winter, have people attached themselves to their winter stories throughout the entire year in an obsessive way?

In my opinion, in the Thai culture it is taken to the extreme with these model couples. Basically everything revolves around the popularity of a couple. It seems to be for the benefit of everyone involved: the tv station, the actors involved, the media and the consumerism of the fans. There are several examples of how far they extend, recently even the tv channel posted an ad of the high ratings these couples achieved for their series.

One couple plays with the whole scenario of whether or not they are involved. They start from the basics of denying it, then constantly show off on their social media accounts they are special for each other. Then they finally admit they are a couple and every time they attend events issues about their relationship become the focus of the interviews rather than the series they are actually working on. There are even times when suddenly the media announces the actor will be playing opposite another actress, the fans instantly react negatively towards the news. At other times, they are consistently paired up with each other so that their total filmography is of working in the same projects rather than with others.

In another case, a couple is wildly popular with fans after working together on a series. Fans imagine all sort of situations which suggest these two are seeing each other. However, when the actress finally denies any involvement by admitting she was in a relationship with another actor, fans became very angry even threatening to boycott any of her projects. However, the actual number of fanatics is not as large as the fan base for each of them separately so the news eventually dies down. She moves on and ends up with many commercials with her real boyfriend so they now present the image of a real perfect couple attempting to sell diverse products.

I’ve become familiar with Korean series in the past few years and I feel that for the most part the whole idea of presenting a certain image is more respectable, at least they can shine individually as actors/actresses for their own talents rather than depending on being couples in order to promote their careers.

Different cultures have different takes on publicity. Hollywood has had a long history of "love contracts" where an actor and actress agree to "fake date" for a year or two in order to get good PR and press attention for their projects.

Fun - Russia and India - enjoy it as long as you want. Momentum and sentiments play crucial role in human world. Its upto people to catch this opportunity or let it go waste.

Stock Market - I'm in -ve too - I'm the only one who talks about it time to time and i had talked about how Stock Market has its own unfair practices too. This week, the drama, and money at risk is enough to tell you the power of market forces and where in the food chain common man stands. More fun in next few hours. Someone guest member had asked me about Stock market also sister forex market being gambling. Even my own family member aka mother called it gambling. I had given as usual very much a vague answer then but i'm glad to be proven right once more. I can decide on things which i've experience of good part of my life and i was able to measure the value using logic and come up with outcomes that were not only applied to business world but also were clean image of human society. That's why i said those who can do good in stock market will also do good in politics. Afterall, Its all about human emotions and sentiments. That's why AI is advancing so much now. Simple math formulas control whole labour market, algos control financial markets, so AI has vast potential to gauge the trend and control human world.

The things that amuses me the most is when people have shocked pikachu face. When this and that leaders comes into power, things start to happen, social atmosphere changes, Institutions starts to crumble, when people start to face the heat, then these same people act like they never saw it coming. Yeah yeah. such facemasks. Nice way to not accept any responsibility and accountability
Same for this time around in stock market. Things were always in open but conveniently ignored and now when crying loud.
As i said several times before - unless and untill reforms happen - things will remain the same - the more things change the more they remain the same.

Taxes - They annoy me so much. You do hard work, put your only life's precious time on line, put your health on line and the a good part of outcome is taken by government in the name of taxes. Govt. needs money to do things for the society for which its created, but after a limit it becomes more like an overcharge. Then there tax laws have rules that actually feel like huge discrimination.
If you are single aka have not your own family then you pay more taxes. Instead a single person should be rewarded for keeping population in check, saving more resources and not burdening the society. But, its the other parties who not only get more leverage but also get more assistance, fulfill their lust and physical desires, keep family tree intact. All in all tax payer aka single tax payer is running a charity and get least benefits out of it. Well, more annoying is see political system living lavish lives funded by taxes. Reform. One more.

Lol I actually agree with you about taxes, it's kind of ridiculous. The government isn't a money tree, it's a compilation of many people's hard earned money. Allowing anyone to clamor for this and that only raises expenses...

where I live everyone pays for education taxes (our "free" public schools) twice: in our property tax, and our income tax. That's thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars for education. What about those parents who send their kids to private school or homeschool, and thus get no benefits from the money they pay for education? What about the HUNDREDS of schools now online with failing student rates skyrocketing because of completely online education? It's not the same product, should we be charged the same amount by the gov't for it?

Required fields are marked *

I would argue that even people that don’t personally use the education system see the benefit of “free” public education, in that they live in a world with other people in it and those people use it. (The quality of the education system is another story).

I have personally never had any interactions with (for example) the taxpayer funded welfare system here but I can see the merit in having it available for those who need it.

8

Required fields are marked *

That's also true--I definitely see merit in contributing voluntarily to a public education system--or even a transparent tax (not taken as "property taxes, income taxes" to help cover those who don't have access to education. Likewise I think we should make ways to help those in immediate need, and help them to provide for themselves and family. Although, anything done by force (ie. taxes to pay for it--if you don't do this, you could go to prison) I get a little bit wary about. Not opposed, just very careful in how much and what is done.

I also wish, though, that we understood better how it's not "free"--we're just running our own money through the government first in order to get it. Health care, welfare, education... the money all actually comes from somewhere. I personally think we end up paying more for it in taxes because we also need to pay the salaries of all the gov't administrators etc. who make policy and implement it, than we would if we kept things on a more local level.

PS I know this is totally not related to kdramas, I'm really taking them up on the OT "anything goes" idea... but I've always loved getting other Beanies insights, since like you they tend to have interesting opinions and we can have good discussions on things (unlike some other internet forums).

0

@cozybooks I can see that we could easily have different opinions on this just based on where we come from - our population is so small that having a national strategy and doing things on a National scale is often more cost effective and efficient.

I do think people should know where their taxes go, that way they can hold politicians to account, but I don’t think taxes should be earmarked for particular areas before they’re collected - needs and priorities (for people and for governments) change and I think pooling taxes is better for maintaining flexibility of spending.

It’s interesting to se Beanies different perspectives on non kdrama related issues- and to be able to discuss them without everyone yelling 😄

2

Parents who think they have disadvantage by paying education tax but sending their children to private school. Well they can send their children to public school if they want 😄 so their tax money is not wasted.
See it isnt how things work, we have to tax because I believe we can pay them, because government think we can pay them without getting poorer. Even in society with the most evil government, no one want their citizens get any poorer.

I think I have a slightly different view of the government (they're not entitled to my money, they work for my entire community to help keep us safe and protect rights, rather than provide for basic necessities/amenities of life for every citizen) so I do tend to care about what they use my tax money for--preferably keeping things local, because then I'm paying less people along the way to make those decisions and they'll know the needs of my community better.

1

I'm single. I dont mind paying taxes as long as the government use it right in purpose making better society. Reason: I dont think I will be richer by not paying my taxes 😄 and sometimes I think taxes as charity but government imposed. ha ha ha.

Gifts are like the extention of me - the soup for my soul.

Sometimes, I gave me a permission to buy something that I just want, without thinking about how useful or necessary it is. For example, I just bought 2 hand creams -jusmine and chill out scents, without thinking much about why I needed 2 instead of 1. I considered them 2 little treats for myself. Sometimes, it's having a meal with a person/ group of people whom I wanted to go with at the place I wanted to go. Sometimes, I buried myself in bed until late in the morning.

It's good to treat and take care of yourself, heart and soul, and it doesn't even have to involve money. As long as you feel good about it and it fulfills your heart and doesn't hurt anyone including you, you can do it as often as you want.

I give myself books and yarn, and in the before times, travel. A gift to yourself doesn't need to be profound, instead it could be something that just gives a little jolt to brighten your day. When my kids were young, I would gift myself time alone. Heaven.

You say you are a person with no interests, and yet here you are on a site specific to at least one interest you have. Additionally, bright shiny new things are always more interesting at first, and if they tarnish and become less interesting, it's okay to leave them behind. We're all trying new things to see if they fit. Some do, some don't, and that's how we find our things.

Others may gift you now and then but only we know when we need to gift ourselves. I love the gift of time but it's hard to give yourself sth as simple as that.

I'm a mom of a relatively large family and I have to spend most of my time in the kitchen but I HATE cooking. Whenever I want to buy myself a gift I buy everyday dishes or kitchen tools to make my time in the kitchen happier.

That's a great way to gift yourself. After all gifts should not necessarily be different from the things that consume our time. This way you've made sth that you dislike easier for you and maybe even enjoyable.

Hi beanies. My cold is on the mend and my birthday is in 2 days so I'm pretty excited. I am taking my bestie out for lunch, just the two of us, and I am super excited. I never had the kind of environment or time where I could just go to a cafe and chill with friends so I am pretty excited about going out again. I don't know what I want as a gift from my parents so I might just ask for cash or maybe a pair of nude block heels since I have heard they go with everything. I am drowning in online classes and assignments so I am obviously pretty tired. I also watched a few vlogs of Tom Daley and now I feel single af (that guy seriously has such an adorable family). My mom was so shocked when she got to know that he does crochet. I've been listening to the Bridgerton soundtrack on loop and my favourite piece is We Could Form an Attachment. I can't really watch the show cause I don't have Netflix but I, like many others, am admiring all the pretty ( Jonathan Bailey, who plays Anthony, is my new celeb crush). Let's hope I manage to complete all my assignments in time and manage to study properly.

A few weeks ago, I mentioned that I had not seen tipping coming up with my Whole Foods delivery order.

Here is the nuance. I started reloading an Amazon gift card on my account for purchases. This saves me from receiving numerous credit card company notifications regarding Amazon charges. Apparently, when I pay for Whole Foods delivery orders from the gift card, tipping option doesn't show up.

On the other hand, when I order delivery from Panera Bread using a gift card, Panera specifically displays separate payment methods for tipping.

Thus, I've resorted to leaving cash in an envelope to tip Whole Foods delivery driver. And, I end up having to stand by the door to make sure that the delivery driver sees the envelope 🤦🏻‍♂️

Happy Friday, Beanies! I hope you're all well. It's been a strange week, and not just because small investors may have given Wall Street a much-needed middle finger, lol.

Still watching/loving Run On, though I'm not watching any other current dramas at this time. I think my one remaining brain cell can only handle this much bandwidth.

I did watch (most of) Scent of a Woman. I cried buckets, and my tears felt mostly earned, but after about Episode 10, it was all sort of meh. I love Kim Sun Ah and she did not disappoint (even if she's about 2 dress sizes too skinny in SoaW), but I found Lee Dong Wook kind of boring in this? I usually find his stillness and intensity so fascinating (as in Goblin), but he did nothing for me here. Just goes to show you that not everything is for everyone. /shrug

Any recommendations of older dramas I can watch? Fun stories that are well made but don't feature a lot of angst or melodrama?

Finally, where is all the fanfiction? Do English-speaking/writing k-drama fans not write as much of it? I'm kind of disappointed to find so little of it to engage with.

I enjoyed Scent of a Woman. Strong messsage that still resonate in me even now. Melo but without wallowing into self pity. I do agree with you that LDW didn't shine as mucb as KSA.

Another old drama that i think has similar vibe is Thank You with Jang Hyuk and Gong Hyo Jin. The starting premise is a bit eye rolling, but the there's lot of warmth in the story telling.

I actually love LDW in SoaW because he is a very normal guy just on the side, like the bff, or the mother, or the doctor. This leaves so much room for every single one of KSA's character's other relationships and struggles and victories.

For just plain K-drama fun there's 'Marriage not dating' (2014). Han Groo had quite a career ahead of her until she abruptly married someone not in the business and gave birth to twins. Goodbye Han Groo. We'll always have 'Marriage Not Dating' to remember you by.

Happy weekend Beanies and keep Beaning On!

It’s the final countdown! *🎸Europe plays in the background🎸*

Lame joke aside, the end of my current suffering is near. By this time next week that dreadful exam will have finished me instead of the other way around, but it will be over. My grandparents are still positive, but they are fine and it is not uncommon for the virus to remain for a while. Other things are also settling down and my formation finally ended. I am still under a lot of pressure and stress, but just one week more.💪

Lend me some of your memory and brain cells for a week, puhleeeeease?🥺🙏

Welcome fellow newbie!

Most of the series you can't find on Netflix is on Viki, which also has a pretty good collection of older k drama that is no longer (or never was) on Netflix.

Also, sometimes there's English-subbed stuff on YouTube, but it's really hard to find and the subs are nowhere near as good as Netflix or Viki.

google your drama title + eng sub + ep 1 and see what sites come up on the search...

beware, some have malware, so hopefully you have protection. and definitely do not click on anything the pop ups say. close them out if you see the pop ups.

I am still in the phase of watching one thing and being so completely absorbed that once it is over, I think, “this is it, I can take a break now. How can I possibly watch something else? This was SO GOOD.” and then I start something else and the cycle repeats itself.
My first drama was Rookie Historian, which I really enjoyed. Then I watched The King: Ternal Monarch and became obsessed with Mee Min-ho. So I watched everything I could find with him in it - Heirs and Boys before Flowers. Then CLOY, which was also lots of fun. and then It’s Okay to not be okay, which I could not stop raving about to everyone who would listen and I have already converted another friend. I spent forever looking up Kim Soo-hyun videos online, lol. And now I am watching and rewatching Run On and looking up Siwan videos lol. This is bad.

Btw, my husband has watched every show with me and enjoys them too. He keeps asking me why are they so good and I am not sure. I like the pace and the character development. And all the dialogues. And all the eye communication that makes you feel what they feel.
I still have not decided what to watch after Run On

How lucky you are to be able to share with your hub! In exactly your phase of initial obsession I infected a co-worker and we had lots of fun discussing dramas. It was such a wonderful antidote to the pressures of work. May I suggest that you investigate a few of the classics of the previous 10 years? Lee Tennant published results of her decade survey on her site (Invisible Pink Dragon.....). In addition, I spent many happy hours reading the top ten recommendations on several blogs and made a list tailored to my tastes - I draw the line at zombies but that's about it. My gateway drama was Romance Is A Bonus Book because I love books and reading. However my hubby enjoyed Hot Stove League 'cause he's a data guy. Fair warning, when you see friends and family eye roll as you describe your current fav drama, it's time to smile and stop. Nobody understands except fellow beanies!

I have started researching top 10 recommendations to find some older classics. Will take a look at the ones you recommended.

Luckily/unluckily we live in Toronto, which makes the PPL particularly dangerous. We found ourselves ordering Korean fried chicken and discovering there was a couple locations of The Alley milk tea shops only a couple blocks from where I live. There is also a Korean grocery store at the corner of my street so now find myself stopping over to pick up some instant noodles hahaha

I am slowly converting a couple of friends...

My husband is worse than I am when it comes to romantic movies/series. He gets even more involved. We were watching Romance is a Bonus Book yesterday and after we finished the 4th episode in a row, he looked at me and said “it’s saturday night, we could watch one more, right?”

Btw, whoever suggested that show, THANK YOU. Flirty Lee Jong-suk is what I needed to withstand waiting for the next episode of Run On

2

@guerson My all-time favorites are Healer, City Hunter (Lee
Min Ho!) and Love from Another Star. Watch on Viki, No longer on Netflix. Other dramas I enjoyed are Her Private Life, I’m Not a Robot, What’s Wrong w Sec Kim, Touch Your Heart, Strong Woman, Moonlight Drawn by the Clouds. These are light dramas.

Welcome! You have so much amazing viewing ahead of you! The others have suggested some great stuff, and I'd also like to throw in Mystic Pop-Up Bar (think that's on Netflix) as a recent heart-warmer. Healer and Reply 1988 are also great watches. And I can't not suggest I'll Come to You When the Weather is Fine, if nothing else because it's seasonally appropriate in the northern hemisphere, with winter being the best time to watch it IMO. It's moves gently, but is a feast for the senses (available on Viki).

1. It's been a while since I stopped by in an open thread. Let's see... I was looking forward to the weekend and now that it's here I found myself bored and...not wanting to do anything lol.

2. At one point I thought about updating my resume/portfolio again since I'm not planning to stay long in my current workplace, but I didn't want to think about work on a Saturday. So I just re-read some old DB posts by JB and GF, ordered batchoy, sorted some clothes to donate, and ate my mom's 4 pizza slices while she ranted about a client.

3. Run On is ending next week and it's making me sad. The live watch experience has been awesome and lovely and fun. Mijoo's now one of my favourite drama characters (up there with Age of Youth's Ssong and FoS' Han Yeojin). I love her. I love Shin Sekyung playing her. I love that I finally *love* Shin Sekyung now.

3.a. I also want a May Unni. Preferably one that does not sleep with her eyes open

3.b. I tear up every time I go back to Sun Gyeom's confession. Gah!

3.c. Kim Seonho will most likely be playing Ryan, right?

4. I'll probably rewatch Misaeng. I wonder how I'll feel about it now that I'm a little jaded older and have a longer work experience. It's also partly to feed my Siwan obsession ㅋ

I discovered Run On last week which meant I binge watched everything and then had to wait for this week’s episodes and now have to wait for the final two. What will I do without Sun Gyeom and Mijoo’s cute time together now?.

I think I also share a K/C-drama blocks nowadays as well.
Fly Dragon: changing one of the lead actors really blew the drama.
H.U.S.H: maybe my expectation was too high, sigh.
Run On & Mr. Queen will end next week.
Legend of Fei: romance took over the drama.
Well, at least I still have the J-drama: Tengoku to Jigoku: Psychona futari & Cold Case: Shinjitsu no Tobira. Kimi no sekai na Owaru Hi ni, also may be good, but I am not in the mood to watch zombie series.

So, I decided to switch to other series/movies. And I a bit burn out, because all I saw were crime/thriller, plus, I also read crime novel (one of chief inspector Armand Gamache's series, around 400+ pages).

But, I just watched a movie with headphones with all the volume up & the vibration reminded me when I watched movie in the theatre, oh, so long ago! It lasted 2 hours and I clapped, laughed, got so immersed in the movie. I love, love, love the experience & thankfully the movie was also good. It's a crime as well... Ha!

I would never expected I would missed something that could be done only in public area (except if you are super rich and have your own real home theatre, with popcorn machine and 4D reclining seat. If you do, I envy you, kekeke...).

I so miss going to the movies I actually cupped my hands on the windows of my favorite theater, peered inside and whimpered. Only the driver unloading a truck on the street noticed. I'm about to listen to an audible version of the latest Gamache (All the Devils Are Here). Perhaps I should turn the sound up?

Ohh.. another Gamache's fan.
To be honest, I tried listening to audio-book. There were two results: I got so spooked, I listened to M.R. James 'Whistle, And I Come to You, My Lad' (bad choice when you tried at night, alone in your apartment, and your neighbour just had their holiday), or I fell asleep (forget the name of the book already).
So, I don't really know how to advise. But, the twists and the warmth of the story is so good!

@wishfultoki,
Thanks for the link. I saw this last night mentioned here:
https://twitter.com/kdrama_news/status/1356031647523586050/photo/1
but I could not find out anything about it. The Soompi article flushes things out a bit. I am glad KBS is investing in the sageuk genre. I am fan of Yoo Seung-ho so I will be watching out for more info on this project.
Boy after a dry 2020 for sageuks 2021 is looking like a bumper crop. With this addition I am aware of 9 projects in the sageuk/historical genre.
1-5: RIVER WHERE THE MOON RISES, JOSEON EXORCIST, RED SKY/HONG CHUN GI, BOSSAM—STEALING FATE, RED CUFF OF THE SLEEVE. The last two I have not heard much about.
6. tvN’s TALE OF THE SECRET ROYAL INSPECTOR AND JO YI
(Jo Byung-gyu),
7. KBS’s AFFECTION/YEON MO (Rowoon),
8. Hong Sisters’ REINCARNATION/RETURN ??
9. KBS’s THINKING OF THE MOON WHEN THE FLOWER BLOOMS (Yoo Seung-ho).

O/T. With all these ‘Inspector’ sageuks maybe a special shout-out should be made to Kwon Yul who wonderfully played Bak Mun-su in HAECHI (2019).
Bak Mun-su (Park Mun-su) was an an actual historical figure from the period of King Yeongjo and according to Wikipedia is considered “the most famous amhaengeosa in the history of Korea”.
