Not good cricket week it was - for tomorrow.

Weather - ohh - rain - good rain. 2021 September was different. many reasons for that.
2021 - September - rainy month - enough rain to make new records or break previous ones. Its not often that petty clouds shower your region with good summer rains in about fall season.
This September also saw fussy activity of clouds - clear skies and within minutes it was about to rain and within few more minutes it clear sky again. This is game graphics at work. amusing weather this time around. much more fun that fiction.

Too much fiction on the table - several movies and then new dramas n the ongoing ones. Unless you get some financial benefits, keeping it up seems not so sensible an idea.
Politics - elections campaigns are on - In more robust, well mannered and rule society it becomes more easier ans favourable to forward your views and vision - no physical dangers for most part and more fair campaign process unlike you groveling around everywhere to have some funds to further the party and campaign ahead.
Good rules of law is a must for new blood to pop-up.
Its really hard to even make a mark in current system. For newcomers its ore difficult than winning a lottery.
The resources required too much and kind of a way to remove common man from competitions even before the game starts.

Hectic but super fun too.

Next week marks the Chuseok holiday in Korea. It is estimated that 30 million residents will be traveling in South Korea during the holiday. That is a staggering amount considering the country is in the midst of another COVID surge.

From what I have read over the past few years, single people dread returning home to celebrate the holiday. They are interrogated by elders about their relationship and marital prospects. Daughters-in-law dread the holiday cooking and chores for the in-laws. For a celebration of Thanksgiving, it is more a burden for most.

That is why more singles and young couples do not go home for the holiday but rather use the time off to travel or camp.

We should be grateful for overbearing parents' preoccupation with their children's singledom -- as an economic force, I do not think either dramaland or Hallmark productions could be sustained without it.

I'm sad that the Hospital Playlist era was over. No more Wintergarden wedding anymore. T-T :( I want to miss the musical performances, the covers of 1980s to 2000s retro throwback songs/OSTs so did the saddest scenes and even the fictional heartbroken, sad patients' cases/issues (e.g. stroke, pregnancy, cancer). And suddenly, it turns out as one of the greatest Kdramas not only in the 2020s but an all-time. I felt glad that ratings for this Kdrama was absolutely good-but-not-bad. Although, I still love all of the great cast (incl. Jeon Mi-do and Jo Jung-suk) and even the Jeon Mi-do's real-life band Mido and Falasol. I am appreciating my best wishes for the future projects of PD Shin Won-ho and we wish you all of the cast and crew of Hospital Playlist a good luck during the post-Hospital Playlist period.

I’m gonna miss Hospital Playlist. Really, really love it!!!! I was never into medical dramas but this is so well done. I love all the characters, there are no antagonists, just slice of life. Despite the long episodes (and the 2-hour finale), I was enthralled and never disengaged.

My only complaint is we did not see Min Ha meet SH’s mom, and Jung Won propose to Dr Jang. That means there may still be a Season 3. Hope it won’t be for too long or else Uju will be too big.

Happy weekend Beanies and keep Beaning On!

Last weekend the whole family celebrated my grandparents’ diamond wedding anniversary and it was really nice to see everyone again after nearly two years or longer. Getting back to daily life on Monday however, proved to be a lot harder than it usually is. Sunday Blues is a weekly thing for me, but this felt like leaving from and returning to planet Earth and having to relearn Earth customs all over again.🌍 I must admit that it saddened me to realize how long it has been since I actually felt carefree and enjoyed myself. Dealing with work and unpleasant chores did not help to lighten my mood either.

But I am hopeful, because bad weeks do not last forever. After the positive experience at the family gathering, I am more determined to battle the agoraphobia.💪 A good friend invited me to her musical performance late October and wants to start meeting up again from November onwards. My K-drama friend is on leave next week, so we might finish the last quarter of Prison Playbook and some movies on our mutual list.💃💃💃

As for this weekend, I am catching up on my reading and K-dramas, so that I have more time to start new K-dramas next week!😊

Sigh. Nothing to watch on Wed/Thu. Some of you may wonder why I didn't watch Hospital Playlist 2, but I watched a bit of season 1, didn't like it, and dropped it. I have an unwritten rule to never watch a sequel if I didn't like the original. Oh cr*p, now I've written it.

since I love HP S1, I was so hyped for S2 that I made a watching party for me and my friend on the airing of ep 1 S2. but that ep felt..bland. I tried up until ep 5 but still I felt not invested to the story, far from the level of excitement I felt during S1, so yeah I dropped HPS2. I love the Fab 5 cast, so me dropping it felt like betraying my own best friends huhu..Happy for the cast though that the rating for S2 was so good.
Hope you’ll get your Wed/Thurs show soon. Have you watched Squid Game? I’ve watched the first 2 ep, and kinda like its characters rather than the game itself, which for me is still absurd on the villain’s reason of conducting it. I hope the next ep will shed more light on it.

I'm going to get myself in trouble here by saying that Kim Yoo-jung is... let's just say not my favorite k-actress. One problem is that the first 800,000 times I saw her she was playing the same plucky kid who had been wronged in some manner / orphaned / bullied and who kept a positive attitude until she could grow up to be played by another actress who would set things right. I just really dislike that kind of show so I would either drop them or skip a few weeks to catch the post-time-skip adults. Then my dislike of the trope contaminated my opinion of the actress. Also, it seems like she plays the same personality over and over -- the same positive & cheerful personality she played as a kid, which just reminds me of the bad old days. Of course, I may have missed a few times when she didn't play that personality because of the times my "oh no it has her so it's going to be that kind of show" reflex kicked in and I never started it.

Not a particular fan of Kim Yoo-jung either, but she really is a very talented actress. I've only seen her in the movie The Chaser and the drama Angry Mom. Actually I recommend Angry Mom, where her character is plucky in quite unusual ways, and she is allowed to be angry and negative.

Yes, Angry Mom was ok. But I think of it as a Kim Hee-sun show, not a Kim Yoo-jung show.

I have enjoyed her work quite a bit but I appreciate your points. To be fair though, a restrictive, profit-is-the-bottom-line industry which treats performers as fungible commodities (especially women), as well as fan bases which approach psychopathy, create the worst kind of environment for an actor who wants to stretch and grow as an artist.

I am quite a fan of Kim Yoo Jung, but I have been feeling disappointed too with her acting in her latest drama being a rehash of Moonlight Drawn in the Clouds.

She really excels at emotional scenes so no doubt Angry Mom is one her of strongest performance, but her plucky, happy, comedic scenes are pretty cringe-y.

For her modern dramas, I also noticed the way the camera seem to focus on her body unnecessarily, which made me wonder if she has any choice in being exploited in such a way as a young actress.

What I liked about her role in Angry Mom was that it gave her the opportunity to display her range. As you said, she was great in the intense scenes, but after Kim Hee-sun showed up at her school and the fun started, she was no slouch at comedy either. While her comic acting wasn't as overt as that of Kim Hee-sun or Go Soo-hee, she had an unusually realistic, rather deadpan way of reacting to the shenanigans around her, which IMO added to the general hilarity.

The same reason, I dont continue watching Lovers of the Red Sky. As I get older happy go lucky FL character turns me off. Perhaps I cant identify such character. Since KYJ plays many of that type of character so.... it is the character not the actress per se

I think I was the only one on this website who liked Backstreet Rookie, but I thought she was great in that one. Definitely plucky though, lol

I am shocked why @dramallama was left from Dramabeans indefinitely after reviewing the first episode-only recap of now-cancelled Joseon Exorcist. I knew that means he/she will joining @javabeans, @saya, @HeadsNo2 and @girlfriday as the retired-from-Dramabeans members. I also cannot believe that @lollypip was also about to left Dramabeans this year (2021) after a little couple of years as a Dramabeans member/staff due to his dog's problems. I saw on Dramabeans staff page (https://www.dramabeans.com/about/staff/) that only seven active Dramabeans staff members(!). Here's the remaining 7 active Dramabeans staffs:

@tineybeanie, @laica, @lovepark @sailorjumun, @laica, @teriyaki (I think), @abirdword

Honorable mentions: to the active Dramabeans recappers/weecappers (@quirkycase, @mistyisles, @missvictrix, @selena, @branwen)

I just finished On The Verge Of Insanity and wow, I am blown away! Someone said that it is better than Misaeng and I fully agree. The underdog story, the characters, the humor etc are all on point. Such an underrated gem and it’s definitely now on my top ten kdramas. To the team who brought us On The Verge Of Insanity and to everyone involved with this drama, thank you! You guys are all amazing!

I liked both OTVOI and Misaeng equally, but I'm with you in that it's in my top 10 kdramas of all time, not just the best of 2021. It was perfect in every imaginable way!

One podcast I listen to skipped a week, awhile back, because one of the hosts (British) though he had COVID and was awaiting the lab results. He got a negative test so he's okay, except for being sick in a regular kind'a way. More recently, another podcast I listen to also skipped a week, this time because the host (American) actually did get COVID. She was relying on being vaxxed-up to weather the storm but the latest episode of the pod not getting uploaded is a worrying sign.

I’m finding it really difficult to determine how bad the pandemic is in different parts of the world now. Many places seem to be moving away from lockdowns but whether that is because enough people are vaccinated now that the big surge of sickness isn’t so bad, or because they no longer get enough buy in from the public to enforce lockdowns or what… I really can’t tell. We’ve currently got a lockdown in our biggest city and huge vaccination push. I can finally get mine on Wednesday, all going well.

The US reported 3,415 COVID deaths yesterday. Compare that to the UK that reported 158 and Japan that reported 58. Germany reported 63 on the same day.
