China's crackdown on entertainers and their fan bases for excess or bad behavior has now taken another direction. According to China News Service, a suggestion has been made that the government should force artists to get a license and undergo training on Chinese ideology, morals, politics and performance theories in order to practice their craft.

Jia Zhangke, a Chinese director, argued that celebrities could be regulated by laws and moral standards rather than a licensing system, which he said would waste government resources.

The expansion of the crackdown on "bad" celebrity behavior (tax fraud, rape allegations, etc) and "wasteful" super fan behaviors to regulate performers and their content seems to a way to national the entire entertainment industry for propaganda purposes.

The same old trash of CCP bad and everyone else good.
Chinese propaganda - like everywhere else saints are passing wisdom of enlightenment.
Crackdown - that's just next level delusion. But, well, that's what you expect from these fandoms.

Over the past 4-5 years more and more Chinese TV dramas have become nothing but recycled Wuxia and/or propaganda shows. Most since around 2015 are unwatchable for me.

Lazy/negligent parents complained about wuxia being too bloody and violent for their children so there are actually few real wuxia dramas.

With the recent entertainment "reforms" and threat that more may be coming, many c-netizens are fed up with what they enjoy keep being taken away. They are complaining about repetitive xianxia and mindless idol dramas, especially romantic dramas with dumb, sweet/innocent/naive, clumsy female leads. They are daring regulators to ban these as well as some "propaganda" films/dramas which are more bloody and violent than regulators would normally allow.

Weather - more rain - breaking records to make new records. ohh.

Well autumn has started so expecting less rain, drop in temperature and better all around weather conditions, still, season's start isn't as much exciting. But, when did autumn become the spring of everyone?

Well, I like this mundane season the most. Everyone is most balance in these few months. Winter gonna be hard this time around. And we gonna have several more articles on climate impact, effects aka change.

Financially very hard working week - for me.

Frustration but more was mental exhaustion. Real time enjoyment too. I was once more on not the right side - again that swim against the tide situation - I talk always swimming with tide but its rare when i do that - Its always swim against the tide - I'm mostly a minority everywhere - Its like watching a match live in stadium sitting in the oppositions stands and then loudly cheering for your team - much to the annoyance of supporters. Heh total real fun.

I was in not so good situation and then came a few others asking for my views and i shared my views - accepting those views and doing trades on them was their own decision and somehow all my views proved right and funny enough i had did no trade on those views. I was thanked. I didn't need the thanks. Why? You trusted me enough to spend your own money on my views - That's more the enough for me. When my views were proven right - i had already won that feeling. That feeling was worth more than any virtual identity's thanks.

Now for facemasks and delusional minds its helping others - yup such gross personalities - everything has give n take in this world - everything has a price.
I helped others but did i deserved that "thank you" ? naaah.
My views were proven right - i got happy, it gave me lot more confidence and at the same time i got more valuable experience and not only that i was stuck with my own trades and needed something fresh to do and by looking and giving my views helped me get out of that momentum and look at things a bit differently. All in all it was fair give n take. So I didn't need any of those thanks.

People protest - have rights - can do that - government has the responsibility to respond - One of the world's biggest sns is known for dissipating fake news and disinformation, misinformation - and actively participated in devolving democracies all around the world and reducing a few into anarchism. What you did against it?

People are fools and gullible and everything else and easily believe things - Whose responsibility is to stop misinformation and broadcast the reliable n accurate information? You just can't wiggle your way around by calling people low IQ. They have enough brain to fall for wrong information, hen, it y shows how lackluster and irresponsible your own functionally has been.
Wear something on your face or not - get the shot or not - If not going for both then why not as these identities are not only putting their own lives on line but their families and everyone else's life too.
It feel more like govenments-all-over-the-world approved purge. That's not how a fully functional bureaucracy and government must reduce to.
Educating the society is as much responsibility of govt as much is of people.

I like lingonberry jam! In Switzerland, we eat the "Chasse" (Hunt), its saddle of venison (it can be other meat) and the side dishes are : spätzlis, poire à Bötzi (it's a sort of pear), red cabbages or Brussels sprouts, an appel with lingonberry jam, caramelized chestnut. It's one of the reason I love the Fall :D

I will test for sure :
1. KBS's "THE KING's AFFECTION : it looks fun! I love both actors.

2. tvN's "SECRET ROYAL INSPECTOR JOY" : Kim Hye-Yoon! She was so good in Sky Castle and Extraordinary You. She will be busy with this drama, Snowdrop and her movie The Girl Riding a Bulldozer.

3. MBC's "RED SLEEVE CUFF" : For Lee Se-young! She was very good as Queen in The Crowned Clown.

I think it's Jung So-Min who will be the FL in HONG SISTERS's "RETURN" with Lee Jae-Wook as a male lead. I was kinda disapointed by Hong Sister dramas lastly.

4. KBS's "WHEN FLOWERS BLOOM, I THINK OF THE MOON" : I don't know... I can't bear Hyeri's overacting...

Honestly, I'm not sure. I know her name was mentionned after the first actress withdrew (was fired?) because she didn't suit the role. But JSM is older than the first actress and than the character. I didn't really read any news about this drama since.

@kurama,
Thanks for the catch on the Hong Sisters’ RETURN. According to MDL, Jung So-min is listed as a main lead. That one I botched.
(Jung So-min was in my notes but somehow did not make it in the post.)

It's all super interesting...
"reportedly to have stepped down as female lead from upcoming tvN drama 'Return' due to poor acting skills."

Say what?!? She was ok in School Nurse Flies. I swear these K-blame-statements are too much for me to stomach. Well, turns out according to the statement from her agency, she just couldn't handle the pressure, which is more believable for a young actress than this ridiculous, "bad actress."

The statement from her agency, "Even though she is a rookie, we have worked hard to prepare, but she has felt a lot of pressure to lead the drama as the main character. With mutual agreement with the production team, she has decided to leave."

I was formerly a huge fan of American football but stopped following it altogether because I could not escape the conclusion that the physical toll on the athletes made football akin to gladiatorial games, and therefore, ethically problematic. Also, the NFL's less than admirable response to issues such as domestic violence and racism made giving it up all the easier. My love of dramas goes even deeper than my past love of football but I am beginning to see a similar quandary. The objectionable aspects of the Korean entertainment industry seem to be magnifications of problems plaguing the entertainment world globally. My knowledge of the physical and psychological abuse suffered by so many performers makes it difficult to reconcile my love and support for people who make dramas with my disapproval and repugnance for the industry which profits by them.

Then at least American football is good practice for being arrested by American police (??)

Yes, I'm feeling a bit cynical this morning. Why do you ask?

Abuse of authority and violence against citizenry by police agencies is hardly an American dysfunction. There are maybe a half a dozen countries with populations over 25 million for whom police abuse is not an issue as great or greater than it is for the United States. One of the grave consequences of a successful move by segments of the country to quash press freedoms and exercise direct control of social media is that police abuse will likely increase but not be publicized, in line with so many already more authoritarian countries.

Hello, Beanies! Hope you’re all doing well.

The weather here is cooling off, which means it’s fall, my favorite season! 🍁🍂🍃🎃

Not watching too many dramas these days. I did binge-watch Squid Game though, and I just started Yumi’s Cells as well. Both are pretty entertaining though very different.

Hello Beanies!
Im still fairly slumped in dramaland, and am only watching The Great Shaman Ga Doo Shim (LOVE IT) and every other ep of Hometown Cha Cha Cha with the iswak group on discord. But I am LOVING Only Murders in the Building and just watched the first ep of The Great British Baking Show. And FALL! I love Fall! And we've had lovely rainy Fall weather just perfect for sitting on the couch and reading books. Which I havent been doing. But, whatever.
In libraryland news, about 1.5 years ago this kid brought a gun to the library and was banned for 2 years. He has recently started coming back in, pretending to be someone else (like we dont know what he looks like?) and then getting loud and yell-y when we kick him out. Yesterday he did it in the middle of my storytime and when his friend tried to push him out they started fighting. Luckily nothing worse happened, but I was trying to read to the kids, keep the adults distracted and make sure my coworkers didnt need backup. What a day!

Was so happy to see The Great British Baking Show pop up on Netflix today. I watched the last season as Netflix released it and it was something I looked forward to.
I think I might read Lucy Parkers' Battle Royal as I watch this year. I really want Netflix to get the James McAvoy ep.

Happy weekend Beanies and keep Beaning On!

A good friend invited me to her musical performance at the end of October, and pre- pandemic me would have jotted down the date in glee. That sentiment is buried beneath agoraphobia at the moment, because this would be my first or second event ever since the pandemic and my mental health problems happened. I gathered all my courage and told my therapist about it, and now we have another goal to work towards!💪 I will thank myself for this in the long run, but first I will have to suffer a month because the therapist prescribed daily walks to get used to leaving the house by the time the performance is upon us!🏃‍♀️

It really feels good to set challenges to better myself, and it certainly helps that there might be other friends attending the performance as well. I just hope the weather will be on my side, since I lose motivation as soon as the sun is absent, and fall has just started in my corner of the world...🍂

Hi Turtie, I just went from fairly constant sitting alone at home with depression and anxiety to attending an out of town funeral with about 25 people I barely knew. There were so many activities it was more like a destination wedding than a funeral. It was exhausting standing, talking and smiling from noon to night for 4 days. I am shocked to say that I actually feel much better now and even some aches and pains have gone away. This gives me a lot to think about 🤔 but I hope you can have a similar positive experience!

Hi beanies!!! Long time not on the OT! My husband watched Angel Eyes (and @egads, it was way OTT). I then went to @cloggie’s homage to the TOD (https://www.dramabeans.com/2018/01/in-defense-of-the-truck-of-doom/#comment-3170653) and remembered the double trouble vehicles of doom in the show, which brought me here to talk about it. 🤣🤪

I’m also watching a lot but I tend to do that in spurts between Covid crises. So, Red Sky, Homecha, and Yumi’s cells have my attention this week. I also picked HP2 back up to finish now that all the episodes are done. As much as I like the characters, I find that show drags and binging makes for a better watch.

I also have drama on my middle school front to update you all.

My daughter and the math genius—turns out, she’s the genius.

After a year virtual (while most of there friends stayed at school), daughter had to assimilate back into her friend group…

Daughter, 4 weeks ago: The new girl from last year seems mad that A hangs out with all of us and not just A.
Me: She has to figure out how she belongs in your group with you coming back. You’ve been with these friends (math genius too) since Kindergarten and she just got there last year. She spent more time with A without you around probably.
Daughter: Yeah, she’s super possessive about A. And says A looks happier hanging around us. She called math genius “stupid.” I’m like, “Do you even KNOW him? He’s much smarter than you!” He won’t even sit with her at lunch with the rest of us.
Me: Well, I hope she’s not mean to you.

One week later:
Daughter: She’s hanging out with another boy now.
Me: Oh, so not in your group anymore?
Daughter: Nope, I tried to include her in our conversations and all she would do is play on her phone. I called her out on how rude it was when we try to talk to her, so I think she’s mad at me, but I still flash my sweetest smile and say hi to her every time I see her. Then A yelled at her in the hallway for being rude to her too, so she’s done with us.
Me: And I guess math genius is sitting you at lunch again?
Daughter: Yep, like it always was before. 😉

Moral of the story: The natural order always is re-established.
2nd Moral: My daughter orchestrated it all. No way she would have let math genius eat by himself.
3rd Moral: Math genius has a sworn enemy now. And a sworn protector.
