That Singaporean edition of truck of doom from episode 8 of Little Women was not only my best Kdrama truck of doom of 2022 so far but... finally, at last(!)... m y first-ever best Kdrama truck of doom of all time. So for you, what's your best Kdrama truck of doom of 2022 so far? Also, what's your best Kdrama truck of doom of all time?

I thought that in 2022, Yoon-A was the current, hardest working k-actress. She currently has two movies out in local theaters; she has another movie and a second TV series coming out this year. Plus, she had been working on the Girls Generation reunion. She has been working non-stop since 2019. Likewise, Nana is about to have an end of year surge: a cameo in Love in Contract then three TV series and one movie to be released starting in late October. Both actresses are in their early 30s and in high demand. But one has to wonder about potential burn-out or public spotlight grows into negative comments like the odd controversy of Nana getting around a dozen tattoos for her role in Glitch.

There are many actors worldwide who never turn down a role out of fear they might not receive another one. Some are geared toward making as much money as possible during their prime career window. It used to be korean actresses' prime was in their 30s, then there was a hard fall off in lead roles. But I think that is slowly changing as 40 is the new 30.

Social interactions are like the hardest thing ever for me, but I really like hanging out with my friends so I feel like all the stress is worth it. Yesterday I was watching a dating show with a friend and her boyfriend. I was dying inside because I'm not close to him (the three of us have been living together the whole year but yesterday was the first time we did something together😆), but it turned out good. It was fun.
Actually, I asked my friend if he hated me and she told me that he thought that I hated him and the show said "you two are the same person. Soulmates. I guess I attract people with resting witch faces that make people believe they hate everyone" 😂

Anyway, I really had a nice week. I spent time with friends I haven't seen some time, and I saw my bestie again. It was really nice. I did like zero studying but wtv 😊 I can cry about it later.

What about you beanies? How was your week?
Have a nice day/night 💚

having roommates is the best thing for young people!! you learn to cooperate, compromise, be thoughtful/mindful, etc. etc. it takes some getting used to, but provides you with much needed life lessons on getting along with others - whether it's in the workplace or at home.

never be afraid to sit down and address/talk about things that worry you, bother you, upset you or even make you happy! you should sit down with the 2 of them and openly say how much fun you had, and that you guys can do it on a semi-regular basis.

it also prevents misunderstandings/misperceptions along the way... communication is pure gold! you will learn so much about others AND even yourself!

Actually, we watched a few more episodes of the show today. It was so much fun!

You're totally right, I should try to communicate more.
And I hope we can keep this dynamic. I'm already thinking of other shows to watch after we finished this one. LOL

I don't know where to talk so I am just posting this here.
I don't like Blonde. I know it's based on the novel, a fictionalised version of her life. And yes, she lived a very difficult life.
After watching it, I just feel that her image is still being exploited in this day and age even though she died 60 years ago. Uncomfortable watch and I would not recommend it.

Every single thing that I have heard about this movie sounds extremely distasteful and exploitative. Never planned on watching it in the first place but it brings me great joy to see the movie being near-universally panned after the clown show that was the Venice Film Festival.

i heard about whatever-minutes ovation they got at Venice. If they say this is art, I have to say, the industry hasn't developed since the 50s.

Blonde sounds worse than unnecessary to me, but I'm not sure if a film festival that gave the top prizes to Laura Poitras and Alice Diop this year could be entirely a "clown show".

Happy weekend Beanies and keep Beaning On!
Being home is an intense activity that does not get the credit it deserves, Beanies. Last weekend I was out with friends and the first half of the week I was preparing for a Wednesday meeting. My schedule was empty from Thursday afternoon onwards, so I planned some major catch-ups on sleep and chores at home before the weekend. My environment misunderstood ‘being home’ as ‘being available’ and literally kept me on my toes for two days. The chores at least got finished in time, now I only need some sleep this weekend and some undisrupted hours to catch up on my K-drama episodes from this week and maybe squeeze in an extra show or two, three, … Don’t tell my environment I said that!🤫

uh been a bit gloomy. heartbreaking news from Ukraine, and I am sending letters and petitions to wildlife protection organizations... difficult subject whether russians should be expelled from organizations protecting wildlife. animals arent quilty and we need to look after them everywhere. Putin is so dumb, bet he cannot name a single bird or insect, sitting in a bunker, so alienated.
already 4 species have died OUT bc of the war
but yeah... so I am still on a mission to look out for animals and plants.
uh im so tired, I worked after a long sick leave, my knee is a bit injured and needed rest but it recovers so slowly. im tired of not moving at full speed yknow.
yeah, making art, too. designed by AI. a huge heart. entangled... threads coming out, illustrating the state of all our hearts sometimes ...all entangled and spun into a knot.

dramas? Young actors resort. they so awkward. the little skinship there is seems unnatural. otherwise, very cute. the game in the high school was a bit too long I got bored

hang in there redfox - we are all disheartened by the news in Ukraine... try to do what you can, within your abilities.

in the US, Hurricane Ian has been wreaking havoc in florida - and i keep thinking "God is angry" - perhaps about the governor of florida flying refugees to Martha's Vineyard in massachusetts to make a horrible political statement using HUMAN BEINGS as pawns....

and i wonder why Hurricane Ian didn't bombard Mar a Lago (orange man's home).... life isn't fair, is it. but we must carry on and try to help those in need, be they animal or human...

hang in there!

there are some crazy weather events in Estonia too. Like, we are going to run out of drinking water! It was NOT supposed to happen HERE. But some reservoirs went almost dry.
Maybewe need to start inventing new ways to counter hurricanes... build some kind of robotic houses that can just "walk away" when there is a hazard. move themselves.. or rise up on "chicken feet" like a witches house, or fly away and come back like migrating birds

I'm actually in Seoul right now!! It's amazing and fun to try and learn the language. My first airbnb had a Netflix subscription for the TV so I could watch a few shows - everything is in Hangul and not everything is subtitles in English, so I just rewatched ones I knew and liked. But now I'm in another airbnb and there is no Netflix! Just regular cable TV with no English subtitles, so I'm not sure what to do. Is there a streaming service I can set up here? I thought Viki would work, but all the shows I saved to the Watch list can't be viewed from this region for some reason. There are maybe 15 shows total?? Suggestions? The best I could find for the moment is rewatching My Liberation Notes with Korean subtitles, but I won't understand much and I think that will get old soon. thanks!

Hopefully one of the locals will see this and contact you with the best solution to help you out. The only way round it will be to get a VPN on your phone and set it for your home country and then log in to Viki, you should be able to watch your Viki watchlist as if you were in your home country. It’s just like using your phone with a local SIM card gives you access to local features currently your Viki is registering that you are abroad and therefore blocking your usual local access.
If you could access any expats living there they are bound to have strategies they use are there any online places you can chat to someone?

Yes thanks! I was referring to the subtitles but wasn't clear. When I started learning Korean I used the crutch of Romanization and so now I'm REALLY slow trying to read Hangul. Hopefully I'll get faster with the reading soon so that Hangul subtitles can be a learning experience.

I have thought about going to Korea to help me with learning the language. Is that why you are there? Which course are you taking?
Sorry to hear your shows not working. I agree with the other response about setting up VPN. Enjoy your stay and write up a review of the places you visit and any tips!

Thanks! Feel free to message if you have any specific questions. Yes I'm here to learn the language. I'm doing the Sogang books which I think is a really good method and would recommend. There are several schools that use these books.

There's a series I've been looking forward to for years now, and that's the latest from Park Yeon-Seon, Fly High Butterfly. But the release it's had so far makes it look like she still can't get a break...it premiered in Taiwan, and has hit Amazon Prime Video in India, but not yet seen a native broadcast in Korea? You'd think JTBC would have a little more respect for her, since she gave them a hit with Age of Youth.

I've sought a download in frustration, but the best I've been able to find is a set of streaming sites that feel like a bubbling cauldron of malware, who have it as Salon De Nabi. I guess that will have to do! The series itself is so distinctly Park's, revolving around a set of quirky and far from perfect characters, slinging out a profusion of pop culture visual references, with a narrator providing a stream of sociological and psychological observations. The nominal center of the story is another painfully awkward and insecure girl entering womanhood, but pinning the hair salon's culture in place is the manager played by Oh Yoon-Ah, who I'd last seen in Park's Alone in Love. The parade of clients provides plenty of opportunity to surface many familiar faces and hilarious situations. Coming in to episode 4, I'm finding myself swinging from mad cackling at the jokes, to feeling a rush of emotion as I watch Park build her narrative.

I still dream that she can one day do another show with the scope and fantastical plotting of Evasive Inquiry Agency, but Park has a firm grip on what she's doing here. I only hope it can see a wider release sooner rather than later!

Halfway through the series, and it's suddenly evident why JTBC seems intent on burying it; turns out one of the characters is in the process of transitioning in transgender fashion. That is precisely the sort of plot Park Yeon-Seon would latch on to like a pitbull (though it's still just being hinted at), but since they're not played by Brigitte Lin, I suppose it's beyond the pale for the network. Seriously now...
