What is the difference between "saranghae" and "saranghanda?"

I think it is probably honorifics (formal, polite, or casual speech) and to whom you are saying it to.

There's no real difference afaik. Both are informal speech but at least in dramas I generally see "saranghanda" used in a rougher, more abrupt way.

It is the time of year in the US where everyone is gathering up their paperwork to prepare their tax returns.

The Korean National Tax Service started a sweeping investigation of 85 celebrities, athletes and influencers for tax evasion. It conducted a special tax audit on Lee Min Ho and MYM Entertainment in 2020 and fined them hundreds of millions of won. The media said, “According to tax experts, the disposition of additional charges through a special tax audit usually includes tax evasion.” In this regard, MYM Entertainment said, “Lee Min Ho has faithfully paid all the taxes. There has never been any unsavory action”. They explained, “The mentioned issue occurred due to a difference in interpretation of whether the compensation for the use of our artist’s illegal portraits rights that our company received is subject to taxation. It’s an amount of additional taxes incurred after a correction of an accounting error in the process of handling the company’s expenses. We already faithfully paid it.”

The Seoul Tax Office to conduct special tax audits on Kim Tae Hee and her past personal agency, Lua Entertainment. Kim Tae Hee’s agency Story J Company stated, “Over the past few years, Kim Tae Hee has faithfully taken care of the tax issues. She has paid taxes to the tax authorities in accordance with the law. This incident occurred because the payments of advertising/modeling fees were delayed when the actress ended her contract with former agency Lua Entertainment”.

Previously, a media outlet reported that the National Tax Service conducted a special tax audit on Lee Byung Hun and his agency BH Entertainment in September, 2022 and that they were fined hundreds of millions of won (hundreds of thousands of dollars) in additional taxes. On February 28, a representative of BH Entertainment shared, “Actor Lee Byung Hun has not had one shameful incident regarding taxes in the past 30 years. The additional fee collected was due to the differences in the deposit time for an advertising guarantee and in the process of accounting normalization for bonuses paid to all employees with the actor’s own personal expenses that were processed as company expenses.”

Actor Kwon Sang Woo was fined 1 billion Won ($756,985.50 US) by the National Tax Service. On February 28, his agency Su Company addressed rumors of tax evasion by the actor, stating, "It's not tax omission or evasion. Payment and refund occurred at the same time, so it was a report of correction." However, they did not deny that Kwon Sang Woo had been fined 1 billion Won. Su Company explained, "The tax authorities asked for clarification on the timing of profit and loss attribution. There was a difference in the timing, so we voluntarily paid after completing the revised return."

The excuses all seem similar in tone: there was a question of timing of income payments or tax code interpretation. Since all the cases were quickly settled, the stigma of actual tax evasion charges were never...

Yoo Ah-ins recent cancellation reminded me of two excellent dramas he has appeared in, Six Flying Dragons (2015) and Chicago Typewriter (2017). The former is well known and was hugely successful while the later is painfully and criminally underrated.

He may have snorted and injected the entire periodic table into his body, but he really is a talented actor, such a shame.

I just finished Secret Love Affair and thought it was great, so I thought I would watch Six Flying Dragons or Chicago Typewriter but neither was available in my region. So sad to see someone deal with addiction. I hope he finds the care he needs and we seem him again back on the screen in the future.

I know 😢 I understand that drugs in Korea are a considered a heinous crime so I understand his cancellation from that perspective, but do find it a bit much. I mean, does Korea think no other celebrities are doing drugs? Puh-lease. They’re millionaires with top social status just like celebrities anywhere else. The amount of opportunities to them, legal or otherwise, are limitless. Everyone else is just better at not getting caught.

I read an article once that discussed issues with the Korean legal system pointing out one case where a high school teacher was caught having sexual relations with her students and a male idol (I forget who) was found in possession of marijuana. In the former case, the teacher was sentenced to 3 months in prison and, I believe, returned to teaching. In the latter, the idol received 5 years in prison. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️😩

With you being in the public eye, more is expected of you by the public. It's a price to be paid for publicity.

Peradventure the not caught drug users get caught today, the likelihood that they'll suffer the same fate as Yoo Ah-in is more than 90%, exaggerated percentage or not.

I just want him to recover his health from all this. Perhaps getting caught is the external influence that'll move him to rigorously end his drug use cause I'm sure he's tried to stop but relapsed several times. And to think all this started from a prescription 🤦🏽

For sure being a celebrity comes with immense stress and pressure which, unfortunately, leads to mental health/substance abuse issues. I hope for his healthful recovery too, but I wonder about him being able to make a comeback to acting (if he wanted to, that is). In American celebrity culture we are accustomed to celebrities battling their demons and even celebrate their recoveries. For the most part, those who are able to go clean are given second chances in their careers. Do you think Korea would be able to do the same? 🤔

I know that there are some actors who do not get comebacks, but he's one of the nation's sweethearts. He will probably make a comeback. Park Shi-hoo and Lee Kyung-young did. Of course their crimes are different and kinda weightier and I don't know how k-citizens reacts to drug usage. I know a bit of DUI's but not drugs.

4

Joo Ji Hoon (from Kingdom, Jirisan, Hyena, Mask, etc.) was sentenced to 6 months of jail and 120 hours of community service, banned from 3 major broadcasters, and fined for drug use back in the day. He succeeded in making a comeback 3 years after. Based on his current A-list career, I would say Korea is also able of giving second chances to actors who suffered from addiction.

Honestly, the punishment for drug use is far too severe in Korea. Users need therapy, rehab, support groups, etc. not jail time.

10

This whole situation is incredibly sad, and reveals once again the counterproductive and often, cruel, way most of the world's societies view addiction. The very last thing that we should be doing is shaming, punishing, and taking away people's livelihoods when they struggle with drugs or alcohol.

I know it's tempting for those of us who never have faced addiction to see it as a bad individual choice that basically needs to be (metaphorically) beaten out of someone by isolating, jailing, and publicly deriding them, but this fails to recognize or grapple with all the systemic reasons for addiction and ignores the data that shows that helping addicts--and all people, really--find and maintain community and purpose outside of drugs is the best solution. As Johann Hari said: "The opposite of addiction isn't sobriety; the opposite of addiction is connection." I wish there was more of this type of thinking everywhere, in the case of this very talented actor and all those millions and millions of people who aren't famous.

I have seen that in the Our Blooming Youth comments section some beanies were talking about love triangles and the fact that rarely those love triangles are F-M-F (two women and a man).

So I have looked at my list of dramas and these are the only ones I have found with some sort of F-M-F love triangle: Our Beloved Summer (more or less), 12 nights, It's ok to not be ok, Go Back Couple, Vivid romance, King of Baking.

There are many more M-F-M love triangles, indeed.

They are written differently.

In M-F-M, the second male lead is super nice but in F-M-F, the second female lead often is written as rich, manipulative, bitchy, etc.

Not always (in the dramas have mentioned above some of them are nice girls), but you are right, they are often like that.

I think old dramas used to have more F-M-F love triangles, the problem is that the SFL was written like a total witch.
In recent daily dramas or weekenders we still find that formula tho.

Not all the dramas have the same dynamics or formula but I think I can understand some tropes.
I mean, according to kdramaland, Korean people are cold and rude and full of trauma etc, so the traumatized male lead falls in love with this ideal girl that's nice (the nicest person they've ever met) and warm. Someone that cares. And that makes the dude feel like they can finally open up and put their walls down and stuff.
This lonely men need some warm.
So having another nice girl would destroy the whole "there's no one else like her" trope.

On the other hand, the female lead is a independent woman that doesn't have time for love and stuff because she's trying to earn money, be successful etc, but when she meets someone weak she feels the need to protect them, and apparently vulnerability is equal to love.
The girl has a nice and cool dude drooling over her (the SL) but she can't stop thinking of the traumatized boy -that treats people like trash because he doesn't want to be hurt again-. Someone needs to take care of him, right?
That's what Geon U said that Song Jae cheated last week in CCIR. Since SJ was having a hard time ofc Hae Yi was going to worry about him (and fall for him I guess).

Tbh, I'm not a fan of either. I don't like love triangles in general, and usually I dislike the second leads just for being second leads (they're way to noisy and condescending. ex. dude from Start Up, dude from FBND).

IMHO, if you have a nice secondary character just give them their own life and their own romance!

Anyway, other F-M-F, that I remember are:

Couple or Trouble
Do You Like Brahms?
A Piece of Your Mind (kinda?)
My ID is Gangnam Beauty
Protect the Boss (well, this is a love square tbh. M-F-M-F)🙈
The Man Who Couldn't Get Married (three women, one guy)
Be My Dreams Family
Homemade Love Story
High Kick
High Kick 2
Summer Strike
Be My Boyfriend (we drama)
Oh Hae Young Again
WF Kim Bok Joo
Flower Boy Next Door
My Fair Lady
Shinning In... Every old drama with Moon Chae Won in it. 😂
She Was Pretty.
Oh My Ghostess.
Fates and Furies.
Stairway to Heaven
etc.

Not all of them are horrible btw. You have the perfect example: NJ from OBS.

It's true, I had forgotten that Another Miss Oh was a perfecto F-M-F triangle too!

Flower Boy Next Door is a different story: it has that F-M-F triangle but the girl that Enrique liked (at the beginning) was never really interested in him as a couple. Then we have the SML who is between two women but he only likes one of them.

That makes me think of more complex geometric figures when there are many people involved (ex. At a distance, spring is green is an hexagon, at least).

Well, my favorite love mess is the one in Ho Gu's Love.
It's probably the funniest and cutest love square I've seen ever.

The love pentagon in The Man Who Couldn't Get Married was fun too. That show is hilarious.
No, wait, or that one was also a love hexagon? I don't remember well if someone was interested in the second woman.

There's also a drama with like 4 or 5 dudes "in love" with one girl but she just wants to be a single lady and hang out with her besties.

I hope Yoo Ah-in, and all faced with similar situation, find the care that they need. They need rehabilitation, not criminalization. The ones that sell and distribute them should be criminalized and serve their sentences.

On another note, I’ve been rewatching When the Weather is Fine for the last couple of days now. And I am loving it all over again. This time, watching Eon-seob caring for Haw-won gave me butterflies. Is there any drama that you rewatched and felt more love for it the second time?

Sadly, when you're rich and famous, there are tons of hanger ons (even doctors) who will provide illegal drugs. Hopefully, he has friends and family who will get through to him. Sometimes jail is actually a forced wakeup call and detox. No doubt, he did not want to end up in these circumstances. Drugs are easy to get into, hard to get out of. Prayers for him.

I'm been looking at Gu Family Book scenes lately and it made me think about a couple of things. 1- reincarnation stories and 2- I wonder how Kang Chi ended up rich haha

Even though I'm a jaded, loveless cynic, I really enjoy the fantasy idea of reincarnation stories and how people are meant to be (be it as friends or lovers or family) over numerous circumstances and life times. The thing is, I think it's a hard concept to pull off. One thing I saw regarding Gu Family Book was people say that it's not the same because it's not the character we spent all that time with so their reunion isn't as impactful. I didn't personally agree since I had no issue with the fast forward time jump and I liked the scene (seriously, I love the song used so it's instantly affecting for me haha) but I could understand where people were coming from. Makes me wonder if there's ever been a reincarnation story that was mostly satisfying. There's a new drama coming out, I think at some point this year based on a webtoon called See You in My 19th Life (at least I think that's the title) and the premise is the lead character remembers her past lives after reincarnating. Since I've read the webtoon, I'm nervous about how the drama will play out but I'm also curious how people who know nothing about the webtoon will receive it. Will this be a successfully satisfying reincarnation story?

And about Kang Chi becoming rich, it's something I always think about when the reveal happens haha
He must've lived such a lonely life over his 400+ years and I was told that if he lived that long, he *should* be rich and have something to show for it. Still, I wonder what he did. It makes me wish there was a webtoon or something about his 400 years. Did he participate in wars? Hmmm, I don't think so but it would be nice to what he did. I imagine he would help the powerless people who were impacted by wars or injustices. Did he make his money in hospitality? I'm even moderately curious about how he and 21st century Yeowool end up bonding.

I was reading about Dramabeans instagram posts, and the reaction of some people (which I share by the way) that they support drama beans but will not be on Facebook. It brought to mind a somewhat related article I read this week on cell phones. I think of how many kdramas these days turn on cell phones--either suspense or misunderstandings caused by phones being broken or running out of battery power; plus how many feature teen bullying and suicide.

So here's an article once again connecting the feelings of despair and hopelessness among teens in the U.S. to phones and social media:

https://noahpinion.substack.com/p/honestly-its-probably-the-phones

I personally tend to reject technological determinism--very often the things that people blame technology for have other, deeper causes, and technology is just a facilitator of them. But this writer makes a pretty good case that phones ARE a primary cause of teen despair.

What makes this hard for me to grasp, even as a parent of 2 (now adult) children, is that I'm old enough that I have never been able to thoroughly integrate cell phones into my life. I do remember arguments with my children about getting cell phones--their reasoning, because "all their friends had them" leading to the classic parental wisdom: "If all your friends jumped off of cliffs, would you jump off of a cliff?" Pretty hard to answer that, I'd say!

Anyway, this article gives me a more socially conscious reason in addition to safety reason when I'm in grumpy old man mode and yell at other drivers to "get off your phone!"

It sounds like you haven't yet had the opportunity to ask it as a parent. You might be surprised to hear yourself ask it some day! But no, really I never asked that question, instead going with the other standard parent statement, impossible to challenge, when their friends "all" were doing or getting something: "You aren't your friends."

Besides, now that I've watched a lot of kdramas, I know that a jump off of the cliff will simply mean they land in the water underneath and swim to safety!

My go-to response was "I have already said 'no'." My son learned very early that it was pointless to plead or argue once I'd said that. (Yes, I'm the World's Worst Mother™️.) I still remember saying "no" and then "I have already said no" to some harebrained scheme request he and a visiting friend made and having the young friend tell me "but everyone else is going!" My son dragged his friend aside and whispered "Dude, she has already said no" as if that were some universal parent code-speak.

And I agree - it's the phones. I'm the worst at setting an example, because although I'm not on social media, my phone is pretty much superglued to my hand. The dilemma is that now that the teens are all dependent on them, taking the phones away will make them even more isolated.

I think you can be proud of the world's worst mother designation, since every year millions are falsely declared the "world's best" -- although that usually is only for one day each--Mothers and Fathers Days, and is also only when the parent receives a greeting card, wears a tee shirt, or drinks from a coffee mug. I haven't seen any of those that declare the world's worst. I believe my children would happily give me a ball cap on Father's Day with the designation "World's Most Mediocre Dad."

As for the phones, the article is actually pretty optimistic--not about their current impact on children's psyche, but just because he argues that they are, in the scheme of things, a revolutionary new technology, and it takes a while for this type of tech to be properly integrated into society (and human psychology.)

I am having visitors over this weekend, which means it is time to clean!🤭 My friend is spending another weekend at my place because we are attending a convention on Sunday. If we are not back too late, there might be some of my dad’s birthday cakes left for us!😋Most of all I am looking forward to catching up. Videochat is nice and all, but nothing beats talking or watching stuff nestled together with tea and blankets on the sofa.🍵

My 7-8 year search for a particular Stand Up! came to an Wednesday this week.

A classmate of mine in high school sent me this song amongst many between 2014-2015. Someway I lost all my playlist on my phone in 2015 and I've been searching for this song to no avail, this particular Stand Up for the champions rendition. The only keywords I remember was "stand up for the champions. stand up for the champions" and 'remember we will stay the same'. But the tone always remained seared in my memory. Until Wednesday evening, I just happened to put in the right lyrics after several trials for 7-8 years now and it popped up. Just imagine my joy. It's like meeting an age long friend. I'll make sure I do not lose this song again.

To enjoy the song, here's the link

Hi beanies. My grandmother broke her femur on the 2nd of April and now she has been operated upon and her stitches have been pulled out. Its been super chaotic with uncles visiting from out of state and people and well wishers visiting. Also, old patients can be very uncooperative. Its been physically taxing and we still need a caretaker for the day because with a bedridden patient, there is a lot of work. I have exams in less than a moth and i have half a mind to simply run away from home. I asked my mom if i could visit a library just for a few hours and she said that i couldn't because she can't change my grandmother's diaper alone and needs my help.

I'm hating life these days, so I'm so glad it's a rainy Friday. There's nothing as relaxing as the sound of rain when nothing is going right. At least I get some relief.

I recently started watching a very old drama called Style, and it's been nothing but euphoria. Being unemployed and job searching is a living hell, so it's been so nice to at least watch in dramaland what I would like to be working with in my professional life. The narrative, which is OK, is secondary to the constant stream of exciting wardrobes of the characters and portraying the creative genius of fashion design, even if it's made-up Korean designers. If art can manifest life, I'm hoping for a manifestation of a job I love.

Three weeks in a row! And I'm watching an airing heterosexual romance.

I probably will only be commenting on OT. I'm watching mainly BLs. And trying to get back into music.

Life update:
Having a bad mental health week. Hoping it will get better by Sunday.
I've decided to live with my brother. My nephew moved in yesterday. I have a new goal to wake up by 9:30am. And to eat 1600 calories a day.

Music

Hamilton Every day!!!! I'm going to have to convince my nephew to watch it on the weekends.
My head of my metal health team, who I have a crush on, hasn't seen it. So anytime he comes over from now on it WILL be playing. It is easier to wae up knowing I'll listen to it. Also helps me get chores done.
Top 50 in Country and Americana writing a blog post on it. Kane Brown is changing my life. Calmed th baby with it yesterday.

Watching:

The End of the world with you: I was singing before he ep started "they're going to hook up. They're going to have sex." They did NOT. But it was still a fantastic episode.
Moonlight Chicken: still pausedon ep 2
Miracles in Cell no. 9: paused. I need encouragement to finish this movie. Might drop.
Call It Love: on ep 1. I'm annoyed is not available in my country. KYK, LSK, SJ are all the loves of my life. And I am a bag of emotions.
Jack o Frost: this class A b*tch is lying about amnesia and I AM here for it.
Grown-ish just finished the BLM eps of season 3. I feel what Nomi said about if her friends think she has racist thoughts, how are they friends with her. But I don't think disapproving of looting is racist. I think it hold oppressed people to a standard. Just because you're angry and hurt, doesn't mean you get a pass to bully people. I'd prefer an open discussion of how to stand for a cause without ignoring morals. Like Jazz takin thins that were stolen? Not cool. I don't want to look up to her as a black person. I get that protests are stressful but Doug throwing the bottle wasn't good. Is it realistic? Yes. But whe will shows, show people being better than reality? Don't act aggressive and egg on the people with tear gas. You're putting your fello protesters at danger. Maybe I'm being unforgiving. But for a show with a lot of lessons, they are showing the wrong things as desirable or neutral behaviors.
Did not expect that to take a whole page of my notebook.
Miraculous Ladybug: officially I'm on season 3. Bit I've seen random eps from s4 and s5. So I know a lot about what the characters are going to become. I'm sad that all the Mari/Adrien find out eps end badly. Like what is my shipping heart supposed to think of fanfics now?
Emma Agenda: Gay Jane Austen is God tier. I watch like they are my friends. It's such a comfort series.

Just finished:

My Beautiful Man s2: ONG! This was soooooo perfect. I don't id Hira as autistic but I'm glad people feel...

but I'm glad people feel seen. I can't believe Hira initiated at the end. He is finally seeing Kiyoi as an equal. This show displays growth in the perfect way. It's gradual and you almost miss it.
Oh! My Baby: it dragged at parts but ended well. I wish she hadn't gotten pregnant.

Recommended to friends

Big Dragon: they are on episode 4. I don't think they are ready for the plot twist.

Editing

Elizabeth the Jaded: My best friend's husband is reading it. His questions make me see the story from the outside. She was just announced the ward o th company that pays for her tuition. Without her permisision.
As It Wasn't: The second book in the Power of Three Saga. Had 101,000 words and counting. Finished at 39,900.
As It Could Have Been: book 3 of PoT saga. I need to collect all the renditions. If it's more than 101k words, I'm going to cry. And my Google docs will crash.

Writing
As It Is: working title of book 4 of PoT. Not the best because it's not the last one but sounds like present tense. Maybe As It Became. Not sure. 12 chapters so far. But v1 became 2 chapters longer. And v2, 4 chapters longer so who knows what will happen.
Power of Three: book 5. Final volume. 1 or 2 chapters written. This will go into the future of my life. But not as bad as me writing 20 year olds at age 15/16. Lol
Silence is Not Golden: Finally wrote Jude's birthday. The first birthday party I've written. Next week, I need to start typing what I've written.
Grant:Ney: I'm starting to think this has too many smut scenes. I'm going to write more in the end. But I don't have many good experiences of sexy times. So it's really difficult to write and it's therapeutic.
From Surviving to Thriving: I've written 1 scene in 2 weeks. Wanted to write yesterday but it wad a VERY bad mental health day.

Reading: I've only read one day this week. I need to read every day.

The director who takes me to dinner: still good
The New Recruit: Director Kim IS goals
Bongchon Bride: I hate the SA. And I'm skipping it this time.
Playing a Chapters game about Being Claimed by the Alpha. I'm promising to do a chapter a day this week.
Semantic Error: didn't read.
Just Contract Lovers: didn't read at all.
My wife is a man: chapter 15. Didn't read at all.
Boku Girl: didn't read at all
All's Fair in Love, War, and High School still on chapter 4

My best friend is writing a webtoon where everyone can be headcanon as trans and it's amazing. Imma bug her about the next chapter.

Not sure when I'll get back into webtoons or Crunchyroll.

I still have a few shows to start.

If you want to follow any of my missions: my eating recovery, EtJ, or media feels, ask me for the links.

I missed Never Let Me Go:
I'm sooooo glad I didn't watch ep 11 last week. That cliffhanger would have been a punishment. I'm so happy that they had a peck before another make out. Diversity in kissing isn't something I knew I wanted to make romances realistic. I really wanted Ben/Chopper to kiss but I know it didn't fit the mood. I'm really looking forward to Chimon/Perth's next drama this year. But I want o go to Engliand with B/C. I know I cab watch Pond ^& Phutwin old shos but everyone says this sow was an improvement so idk if I want to go backwards.

Wait. Do you think the artist guy in Jack o’ Frost is faking amnesia!?! I think the caretaker boyfriend is a passive aggressive piece of work. Breaking up on your partner’s birthday! Really. (I didn’t know all the BL discussions were on these posts 😍.)

I just watched the movie Thirst (2009) and I'm pretty sure our High priest Blueberry would hate it and call it the work of the devil. LOL

Beanies, is there any particular genre or concept you're enjoying these days? After Thirst I want some supernatural/fantasy/horror kind of content.

I personally tend to stick to pro-feminist modern KDramas where women advance in their professional and personal lives, but I've watched the whole spectrum of American, European, and Korean film and Kdrama genres over the years.

I stopped watching Samsung Plus TV because I need the freedom to watch drama episodes consecutively, but I happened to catch an old movie called Deranged (circa 2012). I found it apt in light of the pandemic, and the narrative is quite spot-on to sci-fi horror. Not exactly along the same lines as Thirst, but conceptually similar in terms of vampiric illnesses that could very well be true fiction.

I generally shy away from true horror, but there's another very old movie called Three...Extremes that features three shorts pulled together into an anthology-like film with Park Chan-Wook (a personal favorite), Fruit Chan, and Takashi Miike that terrified me for a long time. Of course, there's always the PCW's Vengeance trilogy that I still feel are some of the most important works of cinematic arts in modern Korean film history, but I always tend to assume anyone with film noir tendencies has already seen (Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Lady Vengeance, etc).

On a much lighter note, I really enjoyed Alice (another sci-fi time traveling conceptually horror drama), Oh My Ghostess (supernatural and only horror on a metaphysical level), and Witch's Diner (much more fantasy horror-like than true horror). And by "really enjoyed", I mean thought-provokingly watchable for someone who doesn't particularly enjoy Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Hostel, Jigsaw like horror along the lines of the American horror genre.

I also like PCW so Three...Extremes had been on my watchlist for a while, and I've already watched the vengeance trilogy; but I haven't heard of Deranged, I'm adding it to my watchlist right now. Thanks!

I dropped Alice (or maybe it's on hold) and I have Witch's Diner on my watchlist. Oh My Ghostess is a drama I rewatch a lot.
Yesterday I started Delivery Man, I think it was nice.

Btw, if you want a pro-feminist supernatural drama, maybe you would enjoy Hi Bye Mama.
Not supernatural, but also about awesome women, Birthcare Center.
I'm guessing you already watched all Kim Sun Ah's shows, Honey Lee shows, Search WWW, Into the Ring, etc, so maybe you want something different? like Angry Moms helping each other. 😆

Thanks for the suggestions. Since I'm older, single, and childless, I usually don't watch a drama if it's only about mothers, but if it has a range of different women banding together for good, then I'm all for it. Perhaps I'll give Hi Bye Mama and Birthcare Center a try, but Angry Moms is definitely not my thing based on what I've read of the synopsis. I've watched the other suggestions, but not Into the Ring so I'll add that to my list.

I didn't include these because they're not KDramas or films or true gory horror, but some ones I particularly liked for their metaphorical horror elements were the French Delicatessen and the British Sweeney Todd. They're films that still resonate to modern society given their metaphorical contexts.

Obviously, with my sensitivities I can’t add anything to your watchlist but I needed to ask if your name change is in honour of Heavely idol? I can’t watch that one due to the above mention of fear of anything with dark side aspects but I was intrigued by the weecap mention of blueberries so wondered if that was the link.

I thought you were watching it! 😔 I think you would really enjoy it.
Yes, blueberry is our main lead's nickname (the FL couldn't say/remember Rembrary so she said blueberry) and he eats A LOT of chocolate (sweets) because that's how he gets his holy-energy.

I envy his metabolism and the fact that it turns chocolate and sweets into something other than fat!😂

Mmm, chocolate. I wish I could get holy energy by eating lots of chocolate without becoming a holy cow 🤣

I’ve been giving this some more thought and I think that you may find Heavenly Idol ok/tolerable.😊 The dark side stuff is actually so poorly executed (perhaps on purpose?!) that it borders on camp/comical. Also, it does not seem to advance the plot in any way (as far as I can tell), so if you skipped those bits, you would not miss much.

However, I’m not sure whether it will be worth it - I am enjoying it and finding it funny, but I don’t know if it’s one that I’d recommend (yet). I was hoping it was harbouring secret depth, but the most recent episodes have not filled me with confidence. I wish I knew what they were trying to do with the evil/dark stuff - at the moment, it feels more like it’s there for the sake of having antagonists, without any purpose or meaning.

Thank you this is helpful to know. I will wait for it to end to binge watch depending on verdict. It is sounding the fun stuff would be exactly what I love but there is not enough of it at the moment to justify the fast forwarding through the stuff I don't like. I love the writer’s sense of humour to turn chocolate into holy food.

I have been in the mood for slice-of-life k-dramas for some months. It may be my favorite gente.

Even for Western shows, I look for this kind of series. These days I'm watching the British series The Durrells too.

Yes, slice of life shows are wonderful. Maybe it's because they can be so real and relatable but I feel like they hit different. Like they move a particular heartstring no other type of shows can hit.

*Adds TD to her watchlist*

This is a slightly older one, but Table For One was a decent slice-of-life kdrama about office workers that was in a similar vein to Let's Eat.

Not sure how far back your drama watching goes but the other slower paced dramas recommended to me were Twelve nights and Would you like a cup of coffee. The package is more the typical drama format but is really nice ensemble cast following the stories of the characters on the trip to France. It’s quite funny too.

Besides introducing us beanies to great poems and poets APAD gave us a massive shipping war. For the most part it was fun but at times it was heated. The DB recaps can be found under its literal title YOU WHO FORGOT POETRY.
