kdrama scripts

TO READ KDRAMA SCRIPTS

THESE ARE ALL IN KOREAN. If you cannot read Korean, I’m sorry, but please don’t ask people to translate scripts into English. They are simply not available in English, not unless someone took it upon him/herself to do it.

Scripts are mostly in HWP or TXT format.

To read HWP files, will need to download the free Hangul software viewer from the manufacturer’s Haansoft’s Hangul Page. (Click on the first little diskette icon.)

You will not be able to edit or alter these HWP documents (unless you buy the full-featured software from Haansoft).

To read TXT files, you may need to download the Korean Language Pack from Microsoft.

If you open a TXT file and it’s all gibberish, a helpful trick is to right-click the file and “Open with” a web browser. It should then open in your browser and display correctly, and you can then save it with the correct Unicode formatting.

NOTE ON SCRIPTS

These may differ slightly from the aired versions of the dramas. The reasons are many, but include last-minute editing changes, reordering of scenes, actors ad-libbing, or final rewrites. Use these as a language tool, but don’t get too confused when the written page doesn’t follow the dramas word-for-word.

I haven’t read through them all, so let me know if something needs to be fixed.

Enjoy!!

Has anyone had any luck finding all of Secret Garden’s scripts? I’ve found a couple of episodes but would like to gather all of them if possible. Any help would be appreciated!

    • 301.1 Mia

Actually there on the 20woo.com site everyone is linking too, it’s right there among the list of others – within the first three pages of the drama section that is. I definitely saw it as I was perusing! :D hope that helps!

      • 301.1.1 Sarah

Hmm, I am checking right now and I cannot seem to locate them. At least, not the complete series. Could you link me?

        Thank you :)

  2. 302 Mia

Actually I was wondering if there any means to get a hold of the script(s) for ‘Old Miss Diary’ – the link is unfortunately broken and my the 20woo.com has…a lot of scripts, and unfortunately the search engine is not finding anything.

I know you are very very busy (all of you reading and jb (you poor thing)) but if anyone could send the link, a hint, or a full on repost of the script that would be fantastic!

    Thank you so much!

  15. 315 Miette

So I read through all 7 pages and searched on 20woo site as well but wasn’t able to find anything. It’s possible cafe.naver might have what I’m looking for but I couldn’t figure out how to sign up.

I’m looking for any 뽀롱뽀롱 뽀로로 or 드림하이 scripts or closed captions. In fact any korean kids show will be fine I can find the video.

Interestingly enough, I went to the EBS site and the summaries were all in English and I could find Korean translations for the English versions.

Hi, javabeans! Thank you so much for sharing those precious scripts to us! I’ve been desperately looking for them for ages. And also to everyone here who shared other links and how to’s, thanks a lot! I really almost gave up on those frustrating hwp files, but finally, I was able to open them last week! Thanks to all of your instructions and tips! :-)

I’m really sorry for asking too much, but does anyone here know a link of script of You’re Beautiful in English? (I already have their script in Korean, thanks to Gramps! :-D )

  18. 318 Gramps

    @Miette

The joining-up technique for naver isn’t very obvious, but it is actually straightforward enough once you grasp what the (rather unusual) stages are, and it will indeed let you locate some scripts the copyright cops haven’t yet found and splatted.

It’s made even more difficult because they keep changing the text labels and the graphics icons for the different options and their position on the page, so I’ll just outline it in general terms.

I guess you can read and type Korean, so that shouldn’t be a problem. I wouldn’t really advise anyone who can’t to try this without someone well versed in Korean actually at their elbow to help out.

After locating the “register” link on the main naver home page (its label varies, but it’s always adjacent to the login box) you get the first of a sequence of joining up pages. The first stage is to select a username which isn’t taken (the web page will complain if it is and tell you to pick another) then select and confirm a password.

So far, pretty normal. But now, you have to jump the id verification hurdle. Unlike some other Korean sites, they don’t require people overseas to fax their passports or similar. In fact Naver offers only one form of ID verification for non-Korean nationals resident outside Korea: by text message. You select the icon for the Non-Korean overseas resident category (generally it’s a globe, last time I looked it was at the extreme right of the row of verification method options). That brings up a new screen in which you have to type your cellphone number (with the full international dialling code, of course, though the screen offers a cheat sheet of such country codes for anyone who can’t recall theirs) You make sure your cellphone is switched on and has a good signal, then click confirm and wait for a text message, which, surprisingly enough, usually does come within a few minutes. This message contains a code number, which you need to write down VERY carefully.

You are next required to log in to Naver with the user name and password you set earlier, which produces a screen telling you to type in the code you were texted. Once you’ve correctly done that, you are through to the next stage of registration.

You’re not out of the woods yet, though there’s nothing in the remaining screens you still have to fill in that isn’t pretty familiar from other sites. One thing it’s maybe worth knowing is that, in the usual “select a question and supply an answer” part, if you go to the bottom of the list of pre prepared “what is your hometown / pet’s name /” etc sort of question, you’ll get an option to input your own “ID proving” question as well as, of course, the answer. I guess this option ought to accept questions and answers in Latin script (though the preprovided questions are of course all in Hangeul)

Once you’ve completed the inquisition form, you are fully registered with a Naver id. (Among other things, this will let you save your own word and phrase lists on the dictionaries page, which is pretty handy)

But you still have to register individually for most of the cafes. Sometimes this is as simple as just clicking a link, but other cafes expect you to introduce yourself with a mini-bio, and some have rules about the “standing” you need to be able to view or do various things. For others you have to PM the cafe owner. So here again, a reasonable knowledge of Korean is more or less a must.

On your specific query re kiddies shows, I’m afraid I don’t have any suggestions. What I can say is that various published DVDs of kiddy shows I’ve sampled myself have neither Korean subs nor close captions. And as I’ve remarked in earlier Gramps-grump comments here, increasingly the adult drama DVD and Blu-ray releases don’t have Korean subs either, even when they have English, or allegedly English ones.

Sadly, this is part of a pattern whereby, over the years since JB first set up this page to the delight and edification of so many of us, provision of scripts on-line by the stations themselves has become the rare exception rather than the norm it used to be. Very few of the big-time dramas now post the scripts officially, citing requests from the rights holders not to do so. I find this both sad and stupid, but copyright owners seem to be incurably irrational and determined to damage their own interests as well as of those of us who just want to learn, and/or teach, more Korean. Most of the scripts that still emerge are bootlegs, either leaked from within the production teams or even transcribed from the soundtracks by dedicated fans. Any that are on pages the search engines routinely index are liable to be taken down without warning, so by definition they are hard to find because those who post them deliberately make them so. And for what I hope are obvious reasons, those who do find them, either by serendipity or inside information, feel they can’t expose their existence on a site like this.

So I think a Golden Age for lovers of the Korean language in its TV drama guise has passed. But it was great while it lasted, and those of us who reaped its benefits are eternally grateful to javabeans for what she did for us, and Korea, by giving us this page.

  21. 321 romantique

Please give us an update or recap for “WILD ROMANCE”. I was really disappointed when you stop at episode 1. It’s such entertaining and funny series. Now I have to wait for the series to be translated in English to be able to understand it.

  22. 322 starburst2009

i can’t open any of these. If someone is willing, please explain the steps to open these files on a PC. I don’t know what program the RAR files open on. I do have han viewer but the file is not supported.
    Thanks!

Anybody know where I can find script for “Heartstrings” ? Thanks in advance!!

  26. 326 Mihansa

This one says the file has been removed:

    http://www.mediafire.com/?xo42iezimyf

(Sorry if this is old news – I checked the last page of comments & didn’t see it mentioned).

I’m hoping it will become available again, as the subtitles on a local TV station (Arirang network airing reruns), and on the DramaFever version I recently watched are significantly different, and it’s got me really curious.

Thanks so much for posting these – what a treasure trove for Hangul-learning drama lovers!

Links for Firebird/Phoenix and Dae Jang Geum (below, respectively) also dead, alas :(

Am I the only person who the links don’t work for?
Or did the website pull down the scripts?
Because I pressed on the links and the mediafire site said something about that it doesn’t carry the files or it’s an invalid file.. And I’ve tried both a mac and a pc.. Am I doing something wrong?

  34. 334 mia

can’t download it. said it’s invalid or deleted file. why??

  35. 335 Anonymous

I remember seeing him as lead in several dramas. But not quite hit me, but he’s doing pretty decent job in this drama.

I officially a fan of Yoo In-a too. She’s adorable.
