Drama Ratings

Note: These are only series we’ve seen in their entirety. (I’ve seen a lot more series that I haven’t come around to finishing, whether it’s because I got bored, forgot, or couldn’t find the time. I haven’t “graded” those here.)

Also, I’ve separated ratings into how much I like something and how good I think it is objectively. Because there’s often a big difference. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Because there’s nothing wrong with liking populist material. I just can’t quite bring myself to rate one, for instance, above something less “fun” but more substantial.

Javabeans’ ratings in black. Girlfriday’s ratings in blue.

49 Days (2011)
Didnโ€™t hate the ending, but it did make me think Iโ€™d given the drama way too much credit along the way. Decent effort at making a sentimental ghostly-possession story, mucky execution. (7 / 7) The writing carried the acting, but well enough for me to be swept along and care. Love the theme and tone, despite flaws in structure. (8 / 7) -GF
Air City (2007)
Hot guys. Cold plot.
(5 / 5)
All In (2003)
Gambling, intrigue, foreign localesโ€”it was a blockbuster hit and people went crazy for Lee Byung-hyeon and Song Hye-kyo. It was almost swallowed by its own hype, but there’s a reason why every revenge/success/empire story tries to emulate this one. (6 / 7) โ€“GF
Angry Mom (2015)
(? / ?)
Answer Me 1994 (2013)
์‘๋‹ตํ•˜๋ผ 1994
Lovely small moments of friendship and family, buried under a mountain of sluggish, self-indulgent meandering. A ruthless editor would have done wonders. (6 / 8) Wonderful characters stretched thin in an endless tug-of-war that loses sight of the big picture. Heartwarming and nostalgic, but also makes you tear your hair out. (8 / 8) -GF
Answer Me 1997 (2012)
์‘๋‹ตํ•˜๋ผ 1997
Nostalgic, witty, and sweet. Captures the pounding fervor and emotional extremes of youth with humor and heart. (9 / 9) This drama ran away with my heart and soul, probably because it felt like the story of my life, set to the soundtrack of my youth. Sharply written, with affection. (10 / 10) -GF
Arang and the Magistrate (2012)
์•„๋ž‘์‚ฌ๋˜์ „
Creative universe built with a tightly plotted internal logic and a stirring romantic core. Quirky, dark, sweetly satisfying. (9 / 8) Love the supernatural โ€˜verse with its own elaborate mythology, engrossing mystery, and leads bursting with romantic chemistry. A faster plot wouldโ€™ve done wonders. (8 / 8) -GF
Athena: Goddess of War (2011)
์•„ํ…Œ๋‚˜: ์ „์Ÿ์˜ ์—ฌ์‹
You’d be surprised what two guys will do in the name of national securityโ€ฆover a girl. Starts out bloody and badass, but winds down into predictable and safe. (6 / 6) โ€“GF
Attic Cat (2003)
์˜ฅํƒ‘๋ฐฉ ๊ณ ์–‘์ด
One of the earlier cohabitation dramas that fired off a trend. Cute chemistry from the leads and funny situations, although the workplace storylines drag the thing down. (7 / 6) โ€“GF
Baby-Faced Beauty (2011)
It’s a familiar story and the heroine’s rather meek for my post-Sam-soon tastes, but it does the workplace setup and the cute noona-romance with a sweet, funny touch. (7 / 7)
Bad Couple (2007)
Bursts out of the gate with peppy chemistry, then slows with tears and angst and The Dreaded Illness. Lost interest after episode 6. (6 / 5)
Bad Family (2006)
Love it. Heart-warming and hilarious as this motley mock family becomes a real one, without dipping into cheesiness. Kim Myung-min is a hoot. (9 / 9)
Bad Guy (2010)
I can’t heap enough superlatives for the drama’s assured directing, gorgeous visual appeal, music, acting, overall ambiance. Story drove me nuts. (7 / 7) The ending killed whatever love I felt for all of the above. (5 / 5) โ€“GF
Basketball (2013)
๋น ์Šค๊ปซ๋ณผ
Underdog sports story set in the Occupation, set up to culminate in historic unified Olympic team. If only we got there! Should’ve been more moving, more powerful, more sensical. Draggy plot, painfully green acting. (5 / 5)
Best Love (2011), aka Greatest Love
์ตœ๊ณ ์˜ ์‚ฌ๋ž‘
Tight writing, hilarious scenarios, memorable acting, and a string of the wackiest, yet oddly appropriate metaphors I’ve ever seen in a drama. Feel-good and satisfying. (9 / 9) Pee-your-pants funny, killer cute, at times achingly romantic too. Hits that rom-com sweet spot. (9 / 8) -GF
Big (2012)
Like getting to the bottom of a tasty meal and finding a half-eaten worm. (6 / 4) Promising setup with body swap hijinks and a great cast, but fails to deliver anything but plot hodgepodge. Akin to an emotional drive-by. Perhaps more violent. (5 / 4) -GF
Birth of a Beauty (2014-15)
๋ฏธ๋…€์˜ ํƒ„์ƒ
Starts with a refreshingly screwball sense of humor, fully embracing its silly nature, but latter third gets bogged down with needless complications. Still, the leads have adorable chemistry. (7 / 6)
Biscuit Teacher Star Candy (2005)
๊ฑด๋นต์„ ์ƒ๊ณผ ๋ณ„์‚ฌํƒ•
Gong Yoo as a bleeding heart high school cutie and Gong Hyo-jin as a badass teacher? Sold! This one has comedy, a nice episodic pace, and most importantly, a lot of heart. One of my all-time faves. (10 / 8) โ€“GF
Bottom of the 9th with 2 Outs (2007) aka 9 End, 2 Outs
9ํšŒ๋ง 2์•„์›ƒ
Two lifelong best friends turn 30 and take steps toward becoming adults…by shacking up together and denying their growing attraction. Yeah, good luck with that. Cute, sexy, and fun. (9 / 9) -GF
Boys Before Flowers
๊ฝƒ๋ณด๋‹ค ๋‚จ์ž
Such a hot mess, but a blast to watch. The fandom frenzy was sometimes more fun than the show itself. (8 / 5) It served up just the right amount of crack at every turn. By all accounts this should have been a disaster, but the sum of its parts is better than you’d thinkโ€”you’ll be screaming at your screen while reaching for the next episode. (8 / 5) โ€“GF
Brilliant Legacy (2009) aka Shining Inheritance
์ฐฌ๋ž€ํ•œ ์œ ์‚ฐ
It’s the classic Candy Cinderella tale laced with just enough makjang elements to make it addictive. Nothing new, but a good family drama with a fresh-faced foursome in a compelling love square. (8 / 7) -GF
Can’t Lose (2011)
์ง€๊ณ ๋Š” ๋ชป์‚ด์•„
This mellow rom-com proves that conflict can exist without crazies or baddies. Simple but sweet. (7 / 7) Cute earnest story about a couple whose marriage and divorce are just stops along the road to finding love. (7 / 7) -GF
Cantabile Tomorrow (2014)
๋‚ด์ผ๋„ ์นธํƒ€๋นŒ๋ ˆ
Full of sweetness and heart, if lacking in some other areas. Messy execution can dull the shine from the coming-of-age poignancy, but the feel-good nature has a way of warming the cockles. (8 / 7)
The Chaser (2012)
์ถ”์ ์ž The Chaser
A gripping political thriller with big ideas and a tense, well-woven plot. Worth a watch for the performances, though I wish the action was as good as the written material. (8 / 8) -GF
Chuno (2010)
Visually breathtaking and characterized by sweeping grandeur, though a bit lacking in soul. (7 / 8)
Cinderella’s Sister
์‹ ๋ฐ๋ ๋ผ ์–ธ๋‹ˆ
Marvelous start and stellar acting counter the heavy angst, but the frustrating plot slows to a near-crawl. (4 / 6) What began as a whimsical twist on a classic fairytale devolved into lots of soulful staring. Had enough plot for eight episodes, but at twenty, it stretched my patience thin, despite my love for the amazing cast. (7 / 6) โ€“GF
City Hunter (2011)
It isn’t flawless, but it did everything I wanted it to and then some. Action, intrigue, humor, heart. (10 / 9) This show has ruined me. Now I want every drama to be as badass and heartfelt. Damn you, City Hunter! (10 / 10) -GF
Coffee House (2010)
์ปคํ”ผํ”„ ํ•˜์šฐ์Šค
Offbeat comedy with a wacky, unpredictable hero. Features loose plotting and a light feel, though second half gets heavier. (7 / 7) Quirky characters and compelling main pairing, but it never hooked me completely. (7 / 6) โ€“GF
Coffee Prince Store #1 (2007) ์ปคํ”ผํ”„๋ฆฐ์Šค1ํ˜ธ์  Thoughtful rom-com hit that became a cornerstone for Hallyu. At times cheeky, at times poignant. Standout soundtrack. (9 / 9) Will forever be in love with Choi Han-gyul. The end. (10 / 10) โ€“GF
Dal Ja’s Spring (2007)
Fresh and fun, with dashes of insight into modern (career-)womanhood, rife with Heroine’s romantic and professional foibles. Adorable main couple, great supporting cast, easy to zip through. (9 / 9)
Dating Agency Cyrano (2013)
์—ฐ์• ์กฐ์ž‘๋‹จ ์‹œ๋ผ๋…ธ
Light on emotional heft, but angstless in a good way. Fun rapport between the agency family, breezy romance, and well-used cameos keep things zippy. (7 / 7) An example of a good movie adaption thatโ€™s light and quick on its feet, but it never really shot me in the heart. (6 / 7) -GF
Delightful Girl Chun Hyang (2005)
High comedy factor with strong chemistry between the leads, playing teenagers forced to marry who fall in love later. Jae Hee is wonderful, and the directing is sharp. A sentimental favorite. (9 / 8)
Doctor Stranger (2014)
๋‹ฅํ„ฐ ์ด๋ฐฉ์ธ
Wish I could un-watch. Do they make a pill for that? (3 / 3) โ€“GF
Dr. Champ (2010)
๋‹ฅํ„ฐ ์ฑ”ํ”„
Main pairing is cute beyond words, and the sports stories are surprisingly engaging. But the best thing about it? That camera. Made every shot moody, crisp, and stunning. (6 / 7) -GF
Dr. Jin (2012)
This craptastic show is tons of fun to mock, with amazingly bad directing and laughable dissonance between intent and execution. And there’s no denying the idea itself was intriguing. But taken straight, as a drama? More pain than fun. (4 / 3)
Dream High (2011)
๋“œ๋ฆผ ํ•˜์ด
Adorable friendships, great handling of youthful foibles and the shark-infested showbiz waters. A showcase for its idol cast; if only they were better actors, it could’ve been even better. (9 / 8) A feel-good drama about chasing your dreams, full of sing-offs and dance-offs. Earnest in the best way. (9 / 7) โ€“GF
Dream High 2 (2012)
๋“œ๋ฆผ ํ•˜์ด 2
Was it lazy, trying to ride Season 1’s coattails, or was it overambitious, trying to be everything and ending up with idol/dance-off/rivalry/romance hodgepodge? It tries both too hard and not enough. (5 / 4)
East of Eden (2008-9)
์—๋ด์˜ ๋™์ชฝ
Epic, sweeping backstory that broke my heart. The adult storylines had great potential, but landed in a spin cycle of the same conflict for dozens and dozens of episodes. I watched with fervor but am still waiting for my refund for the hours I spent. (6 / 7) โ€“GF
Emergency Couple (2014)
Touted as a divorced-lovers-reunite comedy, it’s awfully low on comedy. Slick and beautifully shot, but emotionally feels empty. (6 / 5) Not bad as a glossy medical drama; as a romance, the couple never convinced me they belonged together. Cute, but forgettable. (6 / 6) โ€“GF
Empire of Gold (2013)
ํ™ฉ๊ธˆ์˜ ์ œ๊ตญ
An ever-shifting game of one-upmanship with three whip-smart characters who bring the world of dirty backdoor business deals to life. A fascinating look at how money corrupts, with memorable performances. (8 / 8) -GF
Exhibition of Fireworks (2006) ๋ถˆ๊ฝƒ๋†€์ด Started great with lots of comedy, went downhill with convoluted evildoers gumming up the works. Kang Ji-hwan is the only good thing here. (5 / 4)
Faith (2012)
์‹ ์˜
Absurd villains, repetitive conflicts, and a clumsy director bog down execution. At least the leads and their romantic connection hold up their end; the rest tends to plod along. (5 / 6) If thereโ€™s any show I wish could get a do-over, itโ€™s this one. Only I wouldnโ€™t sit through all the episodes again. (5 / 5) -GF
Fantasy Couple (2006)
aka Couple or Trouble
Flawed but enjoyable opposites-attract comedy. Its humor overdoes the slapstick, but the Hong sisters writers keep the plot moving. (7 / 7) I could never really get on this train, no matter how hard I tried. The humor lost me, and the chemistry never went past tepid. It didn’t help that I hated the main character. (4 / 4) โ€“GF
Fated To Love You (2014)
์šด๋ช…์ฒ˜๋Ÿผ ๋„ ์‚ฌ๋ž‘ํ•ด
Jang Hyuk and Jang Nara turn this familiar story into something better than itself, but can’t save it entirely from exasperating angst. (6 / 6) A sweet throwback romance with a standout comedic outing from Jang Hyuk. Takes some frustrating plot turns that may have you reaching for something to break. (6 / 6) โ€“GF
Feel-Good Day (2014)
๊ธฐ๋ถ„ ์ข‹์€ ๋‚
A funny sitcom-esque family weekend drama. As SBS’s banner show for its makjang-free policy, it tries a little too hard to be so free of conflict that it errs on the side of bland. Vanilla, but sweet. (7 / 6) โ€“GF
Flower Boy Next Door (2013)
์ด์›ƒ์ง‘ ๊ฝƒ๋ฏธ๋‚จ
Wistful, sweet, and thoughtful. The first half is pitch-perfect, balancing humor and insight; the second half drags. (7 / 8) A fun cast of quirky characters and a refreshing contemplative tone. Wish the plot hadnโ€™t lost steam in the end. (7 / 7) -GF
Flower Boy Ramyun Shop (2011)
๊ฝƒ๋ฏธ๋‚จ ๋ผ๋ฉด๊ฐ€๊ฒŒ
Super cute camaraderie in the ramyun family. Jung Il-woo is a hoot. Plot spins its wheels a bit, but it’s sweet and funny. (8 / 8) Adorable spazztastic tale of young love, full of wit and heart. Cheeky in the best way. (9 / 8) -GF
Flowers For My Life (2007) aka I Came In Search of Flowers
๊ฝƒ์ฐพ์œผ๋Ÿฌ ์™”๋‹จ๋‹ค
Criminally underrated. Witty with a touch of dark humor. Set in a funeral home, it gives lovely, quirky insights on life and death. (10 / 10)
Friends (2004)
ํ”„๋ Œ์ฆˆ / ใƒ•ใƒฌใƒณใ‚บ
Joint collaboration between Korea and Japan, about two people who come together despite barriers of culture, language, and distance. Pleasant, with gorgeous leads Won Bin and Fukada Kyoko, but unexceptional. (6 / 6)
Full House (2004)
One of the most popular cohabitation dramas out thereโ€”lots of bickering-as-courtship, cute couple moments. It’s overrated (plot becomes repetitive), but enjoyable. (7 / 6)
Gaksital (2012)
aka Bridal Mask
Epic in the best of ways. This show has major stones, venturing dark and grim to fearless degrees. It’s not perfectโ€”though its grand, stirring culmination more than makes up for earlier missteps. (9 / 9) Itโ€™s not often that dramas can be both wildly entertaining and deeply moving, but this is one fist-pumping gut-wrenching heroโ€™s tale that does both and really well at that. (10 / 9) -GF
Gap-dong (2014)
How I wish this serial-killer suspense mystery had more suspense and mystery. The slow pace and lack of surprise can be frustrating, but it offers an intensive psychological study of some damaged characters. (6 / 7)
Girl K (2011)
At 3 episodes, this badass shoot-em-up revenge story tantalizes with hints of what a full drama could have done. Doesn’t have time to really get you in the heart, but sets up a great world. If this is the future of cable, I’m onboard. (8 / 8) BADASS. (8 / 8) -GF
Girl Who Sees Smells (2015)
๋ƒ„์ƒˆ๋ฅผ ๋ณด๋Š” ์†Œ๋…€
The police work can be laughably shoddy, but the drama is buoyed by adorable chemistry between the squeezably cute leads, plus a solid villain performance. The plot’s just there as a vehicle for the acting and the cute. (7 / 7)
God of Study (2010)
๊ณต๋ถ€์˜ ์‹
Cute stories for the kids, but I am no longer studying for my SATs, so the rest of it bored me to tears. (4 / 5) โ€“GF
God’s Gift – 14 Days (2014)
์‹ ์˜์„ ๋ฌผ – 14์ผ
Starts with a heart-pounding bang. Plot’s overly convoluted, but strong performances and speedy pace keep it exciting. What could go wrong? OH, THAT ENDING. (8 / 7) Clever, gripping mystery with sparkling performances from Lee Bo-young and Jo Seung-woo. Too bad the plot spun itself into a destructive tornado. (8 / 7) โ€“GF
Gold Rainbow (2013-4)
Please don’t ask me why I spent forty hours watching this show. Then I’ll be forced to answer. Oh, who are we kidding; Jung Il-woo, it’s all your fault. I want my hours back. (6 / 4) โ€“GF
Golden Cross (2014)
๊ณจ๋“  ํฌ๋กœ์Šค
Set in the financial world, this revenge thriller features a classic underdog hero up against an interesting mix of antagonists, winning some nice payoffs. Banking isn’t that sexy, but the writing and performances are solid. (7 / 7)
Good Doctor (2013)
๊ตฟ ๋‹ฅํ„ฐ
The medical stories are laughably simple and the politics are tedious, but the growth and bonding amongst the hospital family makes for heartwarming human drama. (7 / 7)
Goong (2006)
aka Palace or Princess Hours
Beautifully executed but slow. Gorgeous rendering of fictional monarchyโ€”if only the plot didn’t drag. (7 / 7) I loved the fusion-fairytale world and all the strangeness of an anachronistic set of values placed in modern society. Candy-coated, but all the sweeter for it. (8 / 8) โ€“GF
Goong S (2007)
aka Palace S or Prince Hours
A reverse-Cinderella tale as an ordinary guy becomes a prince. Disappointing start and poor acting. Still, picked up toward end, inversely to its ratings. (5 / 5)
Gourmet (2008)
Solid execution perhaps obscures a banal story, but Kim Rae-won makes this work. Predictable but enjoyable, like comfort food. (8 / 7)
Green Rose (2005)
Who doesn’t love a Count of Monte Cristo revenge story? Dramatic thriller veers into over-the-top territory, but the underdog revenge plot can get addictive. Great romantic angst. (7 / 7)
Gu Family Book (2013)
๊ตฌ๊ฐ€์˜ ์„œ
Drama, I sentence you to 422 years of time out. Maybe I’ll like you better then… or maybe sucky endings last forever. (5 / 5) A whimsical spin on gumiho lore with a cute romance at the center. I had fun, but I also tore a lot of hair out. Iโ€™ll let you decide if the pain is worth it. (7 / 5) -GF
Haeundae Lovers (2012)
ํ•ด์šด๋Œ€ ์—ฐ์ธ๋“ค
Cute chemistry, but the plot is completely insane. Both Kim Kang-woo and Jo Yeo-jung have been better in almost anything else theyโ€™ve done. (4 / 4) -GF
Healer (2014-15)
Consistently entertaining, winning, cohesively written, with a super awesome main couple โ€” it was everything I wanted and more. Always delivered more than I thought to ask for, and left me with a full heart. (10 / 10) Romantic and badass, with a brain and a sense of humor. Also ninja skills. (9 / 9) โ€“GF
Heirs (2013)
I know it’s popular… but why? A big tease, and then nobody got off. Rom-com drama blue balls. (6 / 5) Not funny enough to be fun, not weighty enough to bear its own crown of pain. Like one long angsty music video. (5 / 5) -GF
Hello! Miss (2007)
aka Hello Baby
ํ—ฌ๋กœ! ์• ๊ธฐ์”จ
Light and jokey, but not much emotional depth. Lee Da-hae can do (and has done) better. (5 / 5)
High Kick 3: Counterattack of the Short Legs (2011)
ํ•˜์ดํ‚ฅ 3: ์งง์€ ๋‹ค๋ฆฌ์˜ ์—ญ์Šต
Surprisingly well-drawn characters and relationships that mean something. Packs a lot of heart into those 20-minute episodes, and consistently, week after week. Slice of life and poignant. (8 / 8)
High School King of Savvy (2014)
๊ณ ๊ต์ฒ˜์„ธ์™•
Hilarious comic performance by Seo In-gook. Poignant and funny for most of its run… but fantastical with its resolution, which sucks out some of the joy. (7 / 8) Two odd birds in a noona romance that defies logic but still manages to tug at the heartstrings. The mistaken identity hijinks are a hoot and the acting is a little bit genius. (8 / 8) โ€“GF
High School: Love On (2014)
ํ•˜์ด์Šค์ฟจ ๋Ÿฌ๋ธŒ์˜จ
Great genre premise (reaper falls to earth, falls in love, wants to be human) with a cute heroine and intriguing world… but languishes under middling acting and a story that focuses on less interesting stories and muddled angst. What could have been! (6 / 5)
Hong Gil Dong (2008)
์พŒ๋„ ํ™๊ธธ๋™
This fusion historical drama has action, comic gags, romance, political intrigue, betrayalโ€”but lacks subtlety. The tone is uneven, but Kang Ji-hwan is wonderful. (7 / 7)
Hyang Dan Jeon (2007)
aka The Story of Hyang Dan, ํ–ฅ๋‹จ์ „
Fun blending of folktales and modern humor in a fusion romantic comedy. Only two episodes, it’s a silly, Shrek-like goof. (8 / 7)
Hyde, Jekyll, Me (2015)
ํ•˜์ด๋“œ, ์ง€ํ‚ฌ, ๋‚˜
I Am Legend (2010)
๋‚˜๋Š” ์ „์„ค์ด๋‹ค
Started off so well, but suffered an identity crisis halfway through. (6 / 5) Why is a law drama masquerading as a rock ‘n’ roll drama? I have no idea. Got off to a great start, and I was humming the songs for weeks. But then it went nowhere…and really, really slowly at that. (5 / 5) -GF
I Do, I Do (2012)
์•„์ด๋‘ ์•„์ด๋‘
Started with cuteness, chemistry, potential. Unfortunately, a slow place and business machinations nobody cares about drag it down. Nice overall character trajectories for our leads. (6 / 6) Lee Jang-woo is the only good thing about this show. (6 / 5) -GF
I Hear Your Voice (2013)
๋„ˆ์˜ ๋ชฉ์†Œ๋ฆฌ๊ฐ€ ๋“ค๋ ค
Not a subtly crafted show, but compulsively watchable with an addictive pace. The legal stuff is unrealistic, but who’s watching this for the law? (7 / 8) The noona romance to end all noona romances. The cast of quirky characters is memorable, the showโ€™s message heartfelt, and the couple rivals my favorites of all time. (9 / 9) -GF
I Miss You (2012-13)
๋ณด๊ณ ์‹ถ๋‹ค
A screaming, wailing, fucking mess. (3 / 4)
I Need Romance (2011)
๋กœ๋งจ์Šค๊ฐ€ ํ•„์š”ํ•ด
A frank, stylish rom-com about friendship, love, sex, and dating that manages to be fun but not frivolous. (8 / 7) -GF
I Need Romance 2012 (2012)
๋กœ๋งจ์Šค๊ฐ€ ํ•„์š”ํ•ด 2012
Fun, but didnโ€™t manage to capture the magic of the first, both in the friendship department and in the romance department. (5 / 6) -GF
I Need Romance 3 (2014)
๋กœ๋งจ์Šค๊ฐ€ ํ•„์š”ํ•ด 3
Sexy, feel-good romantic comedy with another relatable contemporary heroine, as the franchise promises. Not many noona romances are sizzling, but this one lights some sparks. (8 / 8) โ€“GF
IRIS (2009)
Some smoldering performances decorate this explosion-packed action series but the writing gets spotty. More style than substance, a fun ride with eye candy. (7 / 7) Been there, done that. But it’s definitely slick and fun, if you don’t care about gaping plot holes. (6 / 6) โ€“GF
Iron Man (2014)
aka Blade Man
This may either be really your type of drama, or really not. Genuinely quirky sense of humor with absurdist comic-book sensibility. Was a laugh-out-loud winner for me; might be a total pass for others. (8 / 8)
It’s Okay, Daddy’s Girl (2010)
๊ดœ์ฐฎ์•„ ์•„๋น ๋”ธ
Okay, this show isn’t good. It’s got the potential to be, but is marred by poor acting and weird pacingโ€”it’s like a highlight reel of a longer family drama. Yet, oddly, it draws you in with its good-naturedness and warmth. (7 / 4)
Jeon Woo-chi (2012-13)
์ „์šฐ์น˜
A solid B-list drama. Strengths are its light comedy and the heroโ€™s cute backup team. The villains and romance are its weaknesses. (7 / 7) Good for the laughs, not so much for the effects. Cha Tae-hyun is winning as always. (7 / 7) -GF
Joseon Gunman (2014)
์กฐ์„  ์ด์žก์ด
Gorgeously shot, well-acted, engaging use of historyโ€”just a bit less exciting than I’d wished for. Consistently solid storytelling, but I would’ve taken lower lows to get higher highs. (8 / 7) Lee Jun-ki should always play a hero of the people. The rest, I could take or leave. (7 / 7) โ€“GF
Joseon X-Files (2010) aka Secret Investigation Record
FANTASTIC. Quite possibly genius melding of historical record and sci-fi mystery. (10 / 10)
Kill Me, Heal Me (2015)
Ji Sung (and all his personas) was rock-my-world amazing. The rest? Campy, a little sloppy, and way over-the-top, though its manic energy was fun. Without Ji Sung, it would’ve been such a mess. (7 / 7)
The King 2 Hearts (2012)
๋”ํ‚น ํˆฌํ•˜์ธ
A surprising series that hit all my drama sweet spots: idealistic, funny, epic, and sweetly romantic. It could do with better finesse in many areas, but has so much heart that it’s bursting at the seams. (9 / 9) -GF
King of Dramas (2012-13)
๋“œ๋ผ๋งˆ์˜ ์ œ์™•
Light, funny, and acted with commitment. But what really makes it stand out is the fact that henceforth, I will always see dramaland through the lens of this showโ€™s world. Not a little accomplishment. (8 / 8) What Would Anthony Do? (8 / 7) -GF
King’s Family / Wang Family (2013-14)
์™•๊ฐ€๋„ค ์‹๊ตฌ๋“ค
Ridiculous characters, beat-you-over-the-head simplistic with its outrageous conflicts. This is makjang in the most dumbed-down way, but there’s a silly entertainment factor that kicks in once you stop caring or taking anyone seriously. (6 / 4)
The Last Scandal of My Life (2008)
๋‚ด ์ƒ์•  ๋งˆ์ง€๋ง‰ ์Šค์บ”๋“ค
What happens when first loves reconnect 20 years later… when one’s an ajumma and the other’s a movie star lying about his age? Hilarious, touching, and well-acted. Never a dull moment. (9 / 8)
Let’s Eat
์‹์ƒค๋ฅผ ํ•ฉ์‹œ๋‹ค
Part food commercial, part drama, it’s an experiment that has more than a few storytelling hiccups. But the friendship between neighbors is endearing, and the characters are memorable. (7 / 7) โ€“GF
Level 7 Civil Servant (2013)
7๊ธ‰ ๊ณต๋ฌด์›
I’d said that the funny, flirty spy-romance movie should be made into a drama. I take it back. Silly in the extreme, with no sense to speak of. How are these people functional adults, much less secret agents? (3 / 3) This drama didn’t exist. I don’t know what she’s talking about. (3 / 4) -GF
Liar Game (2014)
๋ผ์ด์–ด ๊ฒŒ์ž„
Full of well-executed twists to keep you on the edge of your seat, tightly plotted with brain teasers that keep you guessing. Intriguingly complex villain and distractingly hot hero. (9 / 9) ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ โ€“GF
Lie To Me (2011), ๋‚ด๊ฒŒ ๊ฑฐ์ง“๋ง์„ ํ•ด๋ด It’s like Drama blew its budgetary wad on the stars and forgot to provide a story. Some randomly cute couple scenes, but mostly so boring. (4 / 3) Drama Clichรฉ Soup, thrown together in the most unimaginative way possible. (3 / 4) โ€“GF
Love & Marriage (2008)
์—ฐ์• ๊ฒฐํ˜ผ
Cute story between an uptight divorce attorney and bubbly matchmaker. It’s like a meal of dessert. Sweet filler, but speedy, flirty fun. (7 / 7)
Lovers (2006)
Brisk start descends into weepy melodrama with birth secrets, family strife, and a Love That Cannot Be that’s more like a Love That Should Not Be. By the end I couldn’t stand it. Oh! The! Tragedy! (3 / 6)
Ma Boy (2012)
For being based on a big gimmick (pretty boy disguised as a girl star), this tween-targeted mini-drama displays surprising restraint with the gagโ€”played more with sweetness than slapstick comedy. Doesn’t reinvent anything and the young cast is green, but there’s a nice simple story here. (7 / 7)
Man of Honor (2011)
์˜๊ด‘์˜ ์žฌ์ธ
Cute players, but zero romantic chemistry, and the one-note story never goes anywhere interesting. (4 / 4) -GF
Mandate of Heaven (2013)
aka Joseon Fugitive Story
A solid, heartwarming, well-paced fusion sageuk about a fugitive out to clear his name. Gorgeously filmed and packed with a bevy of awesome side characters who tend to outshine the hero and heroine. What it lacks in crack factor it makes up for with feel-good payoffs and consistency. (8 / 8)
Manny (2011)
A cute premise and a light, episodic format keep this comedy watchable, but the romance angle is the least interesting. Why are the adults acting like kids? (6 / 6)
Marriage Not Dating (2014)
์—ฐ์• ๋ง๊ณ  ๊ฒฐํ˜ผ
I wish more rom-coms could be like this: laugh-out-loud comedy, zippy chemistry, a winning heroine. (9 / 9) A damn good rom-com that’s romantic AND funny, peppered with witty, hip writing and buzz-worthy performances from the leads. (9 / 9) โ€“GF
Mary Stayed Out All Night (2010)
๋งค๋ฆฌ๋Š” ์™ธ๋ฐ•์ค‘
Uber-boring. Worst drama I saw in 2010. (3 / 4) Not enough Cute in the world to cover up the crazy mess that is this drama. It sure does try though. And it fails. (4 / 3) -GF
Master’s Sun (2013)
์ฃผ๊ตฐ์˜ ํƒœ์–‘
Smart use of ghost premise to drive the romanceโ€”a slow but steady burn, loaded with chemistry. Not quite crack-drama status, but satisfying and sweet. (9 / 8) A fantastic rom-com match-up in the leads. Everything else isn’t as sparkling as you want it to be, but there’s a lot to be said for a magnetic attraction. (8 / 8) โ€“GF
Me Too, Flower! (2011)
๋‚˜๋„, ๊ฝƒ!
What a way to tank a promising series; watching its steady decline was a sad thing as the show lost focus on the characters we cared about. At first, it was unfairly underrated. By its end, deservedly so. But Yoon Shi-yoon is wonderful, despite being terribly miscast. (6 / 6)
Mi-rae’s Choice (2013)
๋ฏธ๋ž˜์˜ ์„ ํƒ
Agh, it could have been so sweet and interesting. Waffled around in indecision, and not even a cast of likable characters could perk up the cop-out of an ending. (6 / 5) W.T.F. (5 / 4) โ€“GF
Misaeng (2014)
Moody, sharp, devastating in its mundane realness though ultimately uplifting (admittedly not difficult when it first crushed you to floor, and there was nowhere to go but up). (9 / 9) A stark but beautiful adaptation of a cult hit webtoon that tells stories about everyday people and everyday life in a way that stays with you long after it’s over. (10 / 10) โ€“GF
Miss Korea (2013-14)
Full of heart, despite a frivolous-sounding premise. Aimless heroine teams with desperate hero to become an underdog team worth rooting for. A sweet, if low-key, watch. (8 / 8) This drama caught me by surprise, but it had a breezy slice-of-life style that made it watchable, and a cast of characters that made it charming. (8 / 7) โ€“GF
Miss Ripley (2011)
๋ฏธ์Šค ๋ฆฌํ”Œ๋ฆฌ
Interesting character study of some unlikable personalities who draw you in with charged acting. Story loses its bite in the end, though. (7 / 7) Not nearly as dark as it sets out to be, but the swift pace makes it an easy-to-watch melodrama with engaging characters. (6 / 7) -GF
Mixed-up Investigative Agency (2007)
์–ผ๋ ๋šฑ๋•… ํฅ์‹ ์†Œ
Quirky, offbeat, extremely well-plotted. Strong acting, particularly by Yeh Ji-won. A comedy romp, treasure hunt, and mystery rolled into one. (9 / 9)
Modern Farmer (2014)
Suuuuuper lowbrow, with outrageous gags and gross-out humor. It may be too crude and silly for some tastes, but the drama knows what it is and goes after it with gusto. Upbeat and feel-good, in a simplistic way. (6 / 6)
Monstar (2013)
Had the makings to be really special, but fizzled in the end. Atmospheric with strong (though long) musical numbers. Too bad the dip at the end killed the already meandering pace. (8 / 8) Ultimately it didnโ€™t live up to its potential, but it was a sweetly satisfying drama all the same, with good old fashioned teen angst and heart. (7 / 7) -GF
The Moon That Embraces the Sun (2012)
ํ•ด๋ฅผ ํ’ˆ์€ ๋‹ฌ
A straight-up juvenile romance, dressed up as a grown-up sageuk. The drama’s one-track mind keeps it from having depth or substance, but it’s easy to watch. (7 / 8) The conflict is laughably simple, but thereโ€™s a whole lot of pretty to keep you distracted for most of its run. (6 / 7) -GF
My Fair Lady (2009) aka Please Take Care of the Lady, ์•„๊ฐ€์”จ๋ฅผ ๋ถ€ํƒํ•ด Terribly written plot, even if the chemistry of the couple carries the drama. Skip. (4 / 4) What a waste of Yoon Eun-hye and Jung Il-woo. I felt zero chemistry between the leads, and the plot was so fluffy it evaporated. (4 / 3) โ€“GF
My Girl
Fantastic fun, speedy pace. Super chemistry between the endearing lead couple. (9 / 8)
My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho (2010)

My Love Patzzi (2002)

Short, cute drama with two too-perfect guys and a spunky heroine as an anti-Cinderella. Not very deep, but easy to watch. (7 / 6)
My Name Is Kim Sam Soon (2005)

My Princess (2011)
๋งˆ์ด ํ”„๋ฆฐ์„ธ์Šค
Who knew such a middling rom-com could be a turning point for Kim Tae-hee (and, to a lesser degree, Mr. Robot Hotness Song Seung-heon)? (7 / 6) Mediocre as far as rom-coms go, but the main pair is adorable and cheeky. (7 / 6) โ€“GF
My Secret Hotel (2014)
๋งˆ์ด ์‹œํฌ๋ฆฟ ํ˜ธํ…”
Oy, this show. Compelling chemistry between Yoo Inna and Jin Yi-han, but what was with that plot? An incidental murder mystery and a relationship conflict that’s beyond frustrating drag down what could’ve been a fun, quirky rom-com. (6 / 6)
My Sweet Seoul (2008)
๋‹ฌ์ฝคํ•œ ๋‚˜์˜ ๋„์‹œ
Halfway between indie and trendy. Plotting is loose, but has a refreshing atmospheric feel and good directing. Unfortunately, I hate the main character. (6 / 8)
Myung-wol the Spy (2011)
์ŠคํŒŒ์ด ๋ช…์›”
Could’ve been so wacky and hilarious, but changed its mind halfway through and tried for earnest angst. We got tedious moping instead. (5 / 5) What began as quirky absurdist humor ended up just plain absurd. (5 / 5) โ€“GF
Nail Shop Paris (2013)
๋„ค์ผ์ƒต ํŒŒ๋ฆฌ์Šค
A weird show, tonallyโ€”it’s a hodgepodge of crossdressing, flower boys, romantic comedy, melodrama, procedural, and paranormal. Anemic acting and strange writing make it a head-scratching experience. Song Jae-rim may be the only reason to watch this. (5 / 4)
A New Leaf (2014)
A really compelling performance from Kim Myung-min as a high-powered amnesiac lawyer, but the story ultimately limps to the finish line. (6 / 6) โ€“GF
Nice Guy (2012) aka Innocent Man
์„ธ์ƒ ์–ด๋””์—๋„ ์—†๋Š” ์ฐฉํ•œ๋‚จ์ž
Polished, suspenseful, addictively paced. Characters are whackadoo in the extreme, but intense and compelling. Not meant to be overthought; just go with the melo. (7 / 8) Dark and contemplative, with lead characters who are all fire and ice. Fun in a soapy way. (6 / 8) -GF
Nine: Nine Time Travels (2013)
๋‚˜์ธ: ์•„ํ™‰ ๋ฒˆ์˜ ์‹œ๊ฐ„์—ฌํ–‰
The definite winner of the time-traveling genre, with a tightly written, complex (and yes, sometimes convoluted) plot that keeps you guessing. Intelligent and suspenseful. (9 / 9)
Oh! My Lady (2010)
์˜ค! ๋งˆ์ด ๋ ˆ์ด๋””
Light and fluffy older-woman/younger-man, housekeeper-landlord romance. Choi Siwon’s charm carries the show. An easy, unchallenging watch. (6 / 6)
Ojakkyo Brothers (2011-2)
์˜ค์ž‘๊ต ํ˜•์ œ๋“ค
Cute, poignant relationships make you care about the characters, while the romance keeps you addicted. An example of family drama done right. (8 / 8) A funny, heartwarming drama about a family who gets turned upside-down when a stray little duckling waddles into their lives. (9 / 8) โ€“GF
One Fine Day (2006)
์–ด๋Š ๋ฉ‹์ง„ ๋‚
Akin to getting your eyes poked out. I watched for Gong Yoo, but even he could not save this train wreck of a drama that takes every clichรฉ and makes it worse, if that’s even possible. (3 / 3) โ€“GF
Only You (2005)

Bleh. I can’t remember why I bothered. Han Chae-young is pretty, but Jo Hyun-jae is wasted. (4 / 3)
Oohlala Spouses (2012)
์šธ๋ž„๋ผ ๋ถ€๋ถ€
This marital body-swapper should have been uproariously funny. It had some amusing bits, but the couple was too aggravating to wish for reconciliation, thereby negating its entire point. (5 / 6)
Panda and Hedgehog (2012)
ํŒ๋‹ค์–‘๊ณผ ๊ณ ์Šด๋„์น˜
A makjang dressed in cupcake clothing. Buy a cupcake and skip the drama. (3 / 3) -GF
Pasta (2010)
The couple is SO cute together, and individually very appealing. Yet there’s so very little plot. (6 / 6) Nothing happens. Ever. Although I would probably watch these two actors weave baskets for twenty hours, so… (6 / 5) โ€“GF
Persevere, Gu Hae-ra (2015)
์น ์ „ํŒ”๊ธฐ ๊ตฌํ•ด๋ผ
Starts strong — sweet, cute, hint of coming-of-age angst. But plot drags with simplistic twists and heavy-handed machinations, and acting ranges from decent to very spotty. Still an easy, pleasant watch and full of wonderfully revamped cover songs and performances. (7 / 7)
Personal Taste (2010)
The jerky directing is the biggest flaw; the writing is engaging at parts but random in others. Lead couple is well-acted and have charming chemistry. (7 / 6) The untapped potential of this drama nearly kills me. But the main characters are fantastic and funny, and so damn cute. (8 / 6) โ€“GF
Pinocchio (2014)
A truly winning couple in a sweet coming-of-age drama about going after your dream job. Park Shin-hye should only do rom-coms. And only with Lee Jong-seok. (8 / 7) โ€“GF
Playful Kiss (2010)
์žฅ๋‚œ์Šค๋Ÿฐ ํ‚ค์Šค
Despite lack of conflict, the couple is sweet and Jung So-min lovable. But there’s so little story here. (6 / 6) It’s as undramatic as a drama can be, but the cute makes up for it…a little. Jung So-min carries it, although her character can be infuriating at times. (6 / 6) -GF
Poseidon (2011)
Choi Siwon and Lee Shi-young are a cute matchup. Too bad this coast guard action thriller wants to be cooler than it is. (4 / 4)
Prime Minister and I (2013-14)
์ด๋ฆฌ์™€ ๋‚˜
A warm, pleasant contract-marriage romance with cute rapport between the mismatched couple. A shame that the ending sputtered out so dully. (7 / 6) They make a sweet candy confection of a couple, but the drama played it so safe it never went anywhere remotely interesting. (6 / 6) โ€“GF
The Princess’s Man (2011)
๊ณต์ฃผ์˜ ๋‚จ์ž
Epic and stirring. Constant plot twists, tight political intrigue, and a strong Romeo and Juliet romance with stakes that actually feel life-and-death. (10 / 9)
Prosecutor Princess (2010)
๊ฒ€์‚ฌ ํ”„๋ฆฐ์„ธ์Šค
Addictive and compelling tale of a modern Love That Cannot Be. The main couple is aces; the rest pales in comparison. It’ll make a Park Shi-hoo fan out of you, and you’ll thank me later. (8 / 7) -GF
Que Sera Sera (2007)
Took a few episodes to fall in love, but boy did I. Intense and unapologetic. Not for the casual watcher. Flawed but complex people drive this character drama. (9 / 9)
Queen In-hyun’s Man (2012)
์ธํ˜„์™•ํ›„์˜ ๋‚จ์ž
Thrilling, romantic, adorable, and engrossing. One of the best of the time-traveler dramas. (9 / 9) Sweeps you up in the romance in a way that many dramas can’t achieve. Some glaring imperfections, but the tone is damn near perfect. (9 / 8) -GF
Queen of Reversals (2011)
์—ญ์ „์˜ ์—ฌ์™•
A comfort-food workplace drama with a lot of heart. The heroine gets put through the wringer, but learns that there’s life after divorce, and maybe even love. (8 / 7) -GF
The Return of Iljimae (2009)
๋Œ์•„์˜จ ์ผ์ง€๋งค
Gorgeous. Poignant. Soundtrack and cinematography are exceptional. (10 / 10) Sweeping, romantic, poetic, and kickass too. I would watch this for a hundred episodes. And then watch it again. (10 / 10) โ€“GF
Rooftop Prince (2012)
์˜ฅํƒ‘๋ฐฉ ์™•์„ธ์ž
Uproariously funny once the time-travelers land in Seoul. First and last episodes are an interesting sageuk story, though they feel out of step with the stuff in between. Adorable cast. (7 / 7) Cute, but the tone never hit the right spot for me. Wish it went all-out on the funny instead of spinning its wheels with the needless drama. (5 / 5) -GF
Runaway Plan B (2010)
aka Fugitive Plan B,
๋„๋ง์ž ํ”Œ๋žœ๋น„
Wastes a lot of time in the beginning with flashy action and goofy comedy, but once it settles down, there’s a compelling conflict here. Rain does a fabulous job juggling emotions, action, and humor. (8 / 7) Overly simplistic plot, but the humor and the performances carry it. (7 / 7) -GF
Scent of a Woman (2011)
์—ฌ์ธ์˜ ํ–ฅ๊ธฐ
A drama about death that’s not really about death. The main trio’s stories edge out the aggravatingly meddly second leads. (8 / 8) Uplifting story about a death sentence spurring the heroine to begin living. Often bogged down by needless plot circles, but the good outweighs the bad. (7 / 8) โ€“GF
School 2013 (2013)
ํ•™๊ต 2013
The understated, slice-of-life storytelling packs a surprising emotional punch. (8 / 8) One of my favorite onscreen bromances of dramaland. A good example of youthful stories told in a meaty way, with substance and heart. (9 / 8) -GF
Secret (2013)
Addictively paced, the show churns out a steady diet of extreme behavior committed by people who are either morally reprehensible or dumb. Often simplistically melodramatic, it’s at least a soapy, entertaining watch. (7 / 7)
Secret Door (2014)
๋น„๋ฐ€์˜ ๋ฌธ
So much potential, ergo so much waste. How do you make such an exciting story so dull? Stellar acting can’t save this from disappointing. (6 / 7)
Secret Garden (2010)
์‹œํฌ๋ฆฟ ๊ฐ€๋“
Well-acted, sharp dialogue, great chemistry. Beautiful to look at, but it’s a lot of slick veneer. Alas, I found it hard to connect with emotionally. (7 / 8) Runs the gamut from hilarious to infuriating. Stellar performance by Hyun Bin, but I never managed to fall in love with the characters. (7 / 7) -GF
Secret Love Affair (2014)
A peek into the lives of the social elite, complete with suffocating rules and a dangerous love affair that threatens to bring the house down. At times beautifully stark, at times frustratingly withholding. (6 / 8) โ€“GF
Shark (2013)
Starts out as a dark, pensive revenge game, but peters out into a rather ordinary and almost pointless melodrama. Revenge should be sweeter than this. (5 / 6) -GF
She’s So Lovable (2014)
aka My Lovely Girl, ๋‚ด๊ฒ ๋„ˆ๋ฌด ์‚ฌ๋ž‘์Šค๋Ÿฌ์šด ๊ทธ๋…€
Can something be offensively bland? We’ve seen this a zillion times before, and done better. Milquetoast characters and poor acting sink an already thin plot. (5 / 4)
Shut Up: Flower Boy Band (2012)
๋‹ฅ์น˜๊ณ  ๊ฝƒ๋ฏธ๋‚จ๋ฐด๋“œ
Pitch-perfect. It’s rockin’ with music and brotherhood, but most of all it’s about the heart-tugging process of finding yourself. (10 / 10) The best and worst of what it means to be young and lost, told with raw energy and a beautiful sense of realism. (9 / 9) -GF
Sly and Single Again (2014)
aka Cunning Single Lady,
์•™ํผํ•œ ๋Œ์‹ฑ๋…€
At times silly and overly simplistic with rather broad comedy, but the core of the show is sweet and heartwarming. The main couple (and actors) buoy the show. (7 / 7) Not a deep drama, but it shows what fun a rom-com can be when the actors commit to the comedy. (7 / 7) โ€“GF
The Sons of Sol Pharmacy House (2009)

Hilarious, heartwarming family comedy about a family with four sons who each find love, with some help (and interference) from their boisterous family.
(8 / 7)
Soulmate (2006)
Witty, trendy, funny. Fabulous soundtrack and surprisingly tight plotting. Skillful use of chronology and narrative. (10 / 9) Feels like indie cinema in the form of a drama. Edgy, while still capturing a bit of whimsy and romance. (9 / 9) โ€“GF
Standby (2012)
์Šคํƒ ๋ฐ”์ด
Oh, how I wished this were better. So many actors I love playing characters I didn’t care about. Ha Suk-jin carried this sitcom for me, and for that alone it was worth watching. But only just. (6 / 5)
A Star’s Lover
์Šคํƒ€์˜ ์—ฐ์ธ
Pro: Choi Ji-woo and Yoo Ji-tae’s acting and great chemistry. Con: Everything else (slow, repetitive, predictable). (5 / 6)
Story of a Man (2009)
aka The Slingshot
Intense, thrilling, smartly woven together. Great balance of light and dark. Hits on all three points of acting, directing, writingโ€”and it’s FUN. (10 / 10)
Strongest Chil Woo (2008)
์ตœ๊ฐ•์น ์šฐ
This is not a good drama, but thankfully its outrageousness (intentional and otherwise) keep it entertaining. Alas its hilarity doesn’t come as frequently as one would like. (6 / 6)
Summer Scent (2003)
Probably my favorite of the Season Dramas, because it’s a) not about incest and b) more about the realistic moving on from first love into the present. Atmospheric, and actually uses the feeling of summer in a palpable way. (7 / 6) โ€“GF
Sungkyunkwan Scandal (2010)
์„ฑ๊ท ๊ด€ ์Šค์บ”๋“ค
So cute and well-done. But, ran out of steam toward the end, curtailing the earlier addiction high. (9 / 8) Fantastic fusion sageuk world with gender-bendy shenanigans. Idealistic and addictive, but doesn’t deliver on all its setups. Makes up for it with bromance explosion of epic proportions. (9 / 8) -GF
Surplus Princess (2014)
aka The Mermaid
This show is all silliness, but in a good way. It meanders a bit and the ending is rushed, but it’s bolstered by a fun cast of oddball underdogs, a dimly sweet heroine, strong friendships, and an assertive sense of humor. (8 / 7)
Suspicious Housekeeper (2013)
์ˆ˜์ƒํ•œ ๊ฐ€์ •๋ถ€
A little mysterious, a little ominous, the drama turns out to be a heart-warming story of healing, growth, and bonding. Has some slowish moments, but refreshing in tone and message. (7 / 7)
Sweet 18 (2004)
A breezy romance between a couple who marries first, then falls in love. Led by an adorable pairing (who became a real-life couple after this drama), the stakes are low and so are the dramatics, but the show keeps up a chipper tone as a sweet, innocent rom-com. (8 / 7)
Sword and Flower (2013)
aka Blade and Petal, ์นผ๊ณผ ๊ฝƒ
Overdirected and underwritten, with an ending that’ll make you want to throw your screen. The style actively works against substance. Often pretentious, sometimes insufferable. (3 / 4)
That Winter, the Wind Blows (2013)
๊ทธ ๊ฒจ์šธ, ๋ฐ”๋žŒ์ด ๋ถ„๋‹ค
Beautifully filmed, elegant schlock. Draws you in with its moody, almost dreamy melo touch, but the story is nothing we haven’t seen in other (faux) incest-chaebol-takeover dramas. Disliked every character and the tiresome machinations. (5 / 7)
Thousand Day Promise (2011)
์ฒœ์ผ์˜ ์•ฝ์†
Su Ae is commanding. Virtually no plot, just a grim progression of a disease with no hope at the end. Depressing and a little smug. (5 / 7) Compelling performances, but in the end youโ€™re left wondering about the point of it all. (6 / 7) -GF
Three Days (2014)
์“ฐ๋ฆฌ ๋ฐ์ด์ฆˆ
As an earnest story about a president and his bodyguard, it succeeds. As a taut condensed-time thriller, it pretty much fails. Points for multifaceted characters, but I really wish the plot had been executed differently. (7 / 6) โ€“GF
Three Musketeers (2014)
Solid adaptation, taking a well-worn plot and turning it into something fresh. Winsome chemistry and clever plotting drive this action adventure. (9 / 8)
To the Beautiful You (2012)
์•„๋ฆ„๋‹ค์šด ๊ทธ๋Œ€์—๊ฒŒ
I watched the whole thing and still donโ€™t know why anyone did anything in this drama. Itโ€™s cute at times, but Iโ€™d trade that for story logic any day of the week. (3 / 3) -GF
Tree With Deep Roots (2011)
๋ฟŒ๋ฆฌ๊นŠ์€ ๋‚˜๋ฌด
Sharp writing, slick directing, stellar acting by Han Seok-kyu as Korea’s most famous king. Full of intrigue and thrills. (8 / 9)
Triple (2009)
Breezy and refreshing, but also slow. Tone feels like Coffee Prince, but lacks focus and direction. (6 / 5) What on earth was the point of this story? I still don’t know, and I watched every single episode. Seriously. Waste of a stellar adult cast. (4 / 3) โ€“GF
Trot Lovers (2014)
ํŠธ๋กœํŠธ ์—ฐ์ธ
A silly show with outlandish plot twists that overdoes what could (should) have been a sweet story of romance and growth in the lesser-known world of trot music. Points for Jung Eun-ji’s awesome a cappella singing, which was a highlightโ€”perhaps the only one. (5 / 5)
Twelve Men in a Year (2012)
์ผ๋…„์— ์—ด๋‘๋‚จ์ž
A fresh concept and a fun way to explore singledom. But the execution leaves a lot to be desired, and the heroine always felt miscast. (6 / 5) -GF
Two Weeks (2013)
Skillfully maintains compelling pace that tempers a breakneck fugitive plot with character development. Wonderful growth trajectory for the underdog hero. (8 / 8) A fugitive story with laser focus and a heartfelt redemption arc. It succeeds in making you feel like you’re along for the harrowing journey every step of the way. (8 / 8) โ€“GF
Unemployed Romance (2013)
์‹ค์—…๊ธ‰์—ฌ ๋กœ๋งจ์Šค
Took what could have been an endearing story of a couple’s reunion and told it upside-down and backwards. I like that it’s about an underdog hero and heroine, but it’s paced all wrong. (4 / 4) โ€“GF
Unstoppable High Kick (2006-07)
๊ฑฐ์นจ์—†์ด ํ•˜์ดํ‚ฅ
Loosely plotted family sitcom featuring an adorable cast of future superstars. The problems are small, but the show’s heart is big. (8 / 7)
Vampire Idol (2012)
๋ฑ€ํŒŒ์ด์–ด ์•„์ด๋Œ
You donโ€™t make a show about alien vampire idol trainees, then half-ass the camp factor. Props for taking all the best parts of a ridiculous concept and adding adorable relationships on top. Sweetly dim. (7 / 6) Messy and low-rent, but all the more endearing because of it. The cutest dose of zany this side of Vampiritus. (8 / 6) -GF
Vampire Prosecutor (2011)
๋ฑ€ํŒŒ์ด์–ด ๊ฒ€์‚ฌ
Sexy and smart, this action-crime drama is more procedural than paranormal, but damn if the paranormal (Mr. Vampire Hotness) isn’t sizzling. (8 / 8) Slick procedural with a supernatural edge that leaves you chomping at the bit for more. (8 / 8) -GF
Vampire Prosecutor 2 (2012)
๋ฑ€ํŒŒ์ด์–ด ๊ฒ€์‚ฌ 2
The crew is back, the dynamic is funnier, and the addition to the team is a welcome and heartwarming one. And yet, it doesnโ€™t quite have the bite (or the punch or kick) of the first season. (7 / 8) Same vampire, less sizzle. (7 / 7) -GF
The Vineyard Man (2006)
ํฌ๋„๋ฐญ ๊ทธ์‚ฌ๋‚˜์ด
Mildly amusing, but very ordinary. Oh Man-seok is great, Yoon Eun-hye is forgettable. If you’re a Yoon fan, skip it and see Coffee Prince instead. (5 / 6)
Warrior Baek Dong-soo (2011)
Breathtakingly badass and bromantic. Can get draggy at times. Just fast-forward to the fight scenes. (8 / 7) -GF
What’s Up, Fox (2006)
์—ฌ์šฐ์•ผ ๋ญํ•˜๋‹ˆ
Good follow-up by writer of Samsoon. Go Hyun-jung is always a treat to watch, as is Chun Jung-myung. Not necessarily exciting, but humorous and witty. (8 / 8) So. Cute. (8 / 7) โ€“GF
White Christmas (2011)

Hauntingly stark and beautifully shot. A compelling, psychologically tense character study with a flair for darkness that leaves you amazed, and a little scared. (9 / 9) -GF
Who Are You? (2008)
This drama is all heart. Surprisingly better than its silly start, it gets steadily better as you go along, and the body-swapping is both hilarious and meaningful. Yoon Kye-sang is a standout. (9 / 8)
Who Are You? (2013)
Watchable mix of mystery, paranormal, and procedural cases lightened up by intermittent comic beats. Neither as poignant nor as dark as I wanted it to be; lead couple lacks that spark. Decent showing, but leaves some of its potential unfulfilled. (7 / 7)
Will It Snow For Christmas? (2009-10)
ํฌ๋ฆฌ์Šค๋งˆ์Šค์— ๋ˆˆ์ด ์˜ฌ๊นŒ์š”?
First half of this romance melodrama is poignant, emotionally wracking, layered; second half gets too convoluted for comfort. Go Soo is marvelous. (8 / 7)
Wish Upon a Star (2010)
๋ณ„์„ ๋”ฐ๋‹ค์ค˜
Pro: It’s unexpectedly charming. Con: Messy plot and weak secondary characters. Adorable kids and an appealing heroine keep it watchable. (8 / 6)
Witch Amusement (2007) aka Witch Yoo Hee

๋งˆ๋…€์œ ํฌ

Endlessly mockable, but in the fun way. Pure eye candy, no nutrition. (6 / 3)
Witch’s Romance (2014)
๋งˆ๋…€์˜ ์—ฐ์•
This cute workplace noona-romance does nothing different in the rom-com genre, but it hits all the sweet spots and has sizzling couple chemistry. (8 / 7) What can I say? The world could always use another noona-killer. Rawr. (8 / 7) โ€“GF
The Woman Who Still Wants To Marry (2010)
์•„์ง๋„ ๊ฒฐํ˜ผํ•˜๊ณ  ์‹ถ์€ ์—ฌ์ž
Breezy, witty. Touching and fun depiction of modern friendships and romance. (9 / 8) If you’re ever having a bad day, watch this drama. Instant pick-me-up, and crackling chemistry to boot. (9 / 8) โ€“GF
Wonderful Season (2014)
์ฐธ ์ข‹์€ ์‹œ์ ˆ
Complex character relationships and story of familial healing can be sweet and heartfelt, but the pace gets overly meditative to the point of plodding. Could really have used a punch of energy. (6 / 7)
The World They Live In (2008) aka Worlds Within
๊ทธ๋“ค์ด ์‚ฌ๋Š” ์„ธ์ƒ
True to the title, the world is the most compelling thing about this drama. It’s an inside look at drama producers and directors, and while I never loved any of the characters, I did find them fascinating. (6 / 8) โ€“GF
You From Another Star (2013-14)
๋ณ„์—์„œ ์˜จ ๊ทธ๋Œ€
With its winsome comedy, sizzling chemistry, and a zippy story, it’s not hard to see why this became the rom-com sensation of the year. It’s got some plot holes, but still is one of the best rom-coms to come around in a while. (9 / 9) Lightning in a bottle. A case where its astronomical popularity is well-deserved and then some. (9 / 9) โ€“GF
You’re All Surrounded (2014)
๋„ˆํฌ๋“ค์€ ํฌ์œ„๋๋‹ค
The endearing quartet of teammates-turned-friends was the highlight, but the plot was a bit of a yawn. (7 / 7) Simplistic, upbeat story about rookie cops, but cast chemistry and earnest writing take it up a notch. The laughs are pretty plentiful too. (8 / 7) โ€“GF
You’re Beautiful (2009)
Hilarious situations, fast-moving plot, memorable characters. Park Shin-hye is adorable (if dim), but it’s Jang Geun-seok who kills it. (9 / 8) I never knew I wanted to be a cross-dressing girl/boy in an idol bandโ€ฆuntil this drama. It takes crazy up a few notches, but in the best way possible. (9 / 9) โ€“GF
You’re Here, You’re Here, You’re Really Here (2012)
์™”์–ด ์™”์–ด ์ œ๋Œ€๋กœ ์™”์–ด
As insipid as shows get. I cut it some slack for being on a fledgling cable station with a minuscule budget, but ultimately it flops. Winning leads in a dull world. (4 / 4)
You’re the Best, Lee Soon-shin (2013)
์ตœ๊ณ ๋‹ค ์ด์ˆœ์‹
Alternately adorable and aggravating; had all the parts of a cuter, funnier show yet failed to take advantage of its assets. Focused too much on the insufferables, not enough on the more enjoyable storylines. Not the worst family drama ever, but not the fun ride I wanted it to be. (6 / 5)
You’ve Fallen For Me (2011)
aka Heartstrings
๋„Œ ๋‚ด๊ฒŒ ๋ฐ˜ํ–ˆ์–ด
Cute players, breezy, youthful vibe. But lacks anything resembling an interesting plot. (6 / 5) โ€“GF

And for the old stuff…

Autumn Story (2000)
aka Autumn Fairy Tale
They’re siblings! They’re not! It’s the classic twisty melodrama, and one of the earlier ones that came before Winter Sonata (same PD) and made stars out of Song Seung-hun and Song Hye-kyo. โ€“GF
Feelings (1994)
One of the earliest trendy dramas boasting a hip, young, good-looking cast. Probably the first college campus drama. The drama that spawned my love of all things Lee Jung-jae. I blame you, Feelings. โ€“GF
First Love (1996-7)
Choi Soo-jong and Bae Yong-joon as brothers in love with the same girlโ€ฆtheir entire lives. It did solidify my early love of Bae Yong-joon as the tragic bad boy, although that image didn’t last very long as he went on to be the headliner of his own dramas. โ€“GF
Forever Yours (1998)
Watched this because it was the re-team of Kim Hee-sun and Ryu Shi-won, and was sorely disappointed by the overwrought melodramatic fare that never made use of their adorable chemistry (see: Propose, below). โ€“GF
Hotelier (2001)
Bae Yong-joon and Song Yuna (also with Kim Seung-woo and Song Hye-kyo) in an early hit, about the ins and outs of the hotel business. A Cinderella story, of course, with a little wheeling and dealing thrown in. โ€“GF
Icing (1996)
A direct rip-off of The Last Match (see below), it tried to re-create its success with recycled cast and story. See Jang Dong-gun with Lee Seung-yeon back when they were trendy young things.
Jealousy (1992)
THE original trendy drama starring still-famous Choi Jin Shil and Choi Su Jong. Funny and cute, see the drama that started the trend. Lightning in a bottle, I think. It was all about the lead couple and the cracktastic will-they-won’t-they. โ€“GF
Last Match (1994)
๋งˆ์ง€๋ง‰ ์Šน๋ถ€
Superstar Jang Dong Gun in one of his earliest roles, featuring an extremely young and new Shim Eun Ha! Spawned the sports-drama trend. I loved this drama. To an embarrassing degree. โ€“GF
Popcorn (2000)
Oh, this was a bad drama. Mediocre acting and all the typical clichesโ€”she’s dying, he cries a lotโ€”but it’s old-school Song Seung-heon, before he hit his big break.
Propose (1997)
One of my favorite old-school dramas. A trendy romance that followed in the vein of Feelings, and highlighted the burgeoning love between two best friends, played by Kim Hee-sun and Ryu Shi-won when they were both adorably young. โ€“GF
Sandglass (1995)
One of the highest-rated dramas ever, and one of the most highly regarded. Stellar cast, stellar writing, this swept the nation and deals with some intense historical events, such as the Gwangju Massacre of 1980. Still probably one of the best, even by today’s standards. I still have a cassette tape of the soundtrack. โ€“GF
Star in My Heart (1997)
๋ณ„์€ ๋‚ด๊ฐ€์Šด์—
Early Hallyu hit and one of the first Cinderella-story dramas. Over-the-top by today’s standards, but who doesn’t love a rags-to-riches romance? Every girl in Korea wanted to be her. Yeahโ€ฆ โ€“GF
Tomato (1999)
ํ† ๋งˆํ†
Another Kim Hee-sun vehicle, with a man and a woman as (gasp!) roommates. Sadly, it veered away from the cute and went towards the melodramatic as the series went on. โ€“GF
Wedding Dress (1997-8)
์›จ๋”ฉ๋“œ๋ ˆ์Šค
Lee Seung-yun and Kim Hee-sun as sisters who both want to be married. I remember it as being wildly popular back in the day, probably because of the stars, as the story is family/romance, and nothing groundbreaking. โ€“GF
Winter Sonata (2002)
The quintessential Hallyu hit, which skyrocketed Bae Yong-joon and Choi Ji-woo to mystifying heights. There’s amnesia, incest, switched identities, life-threatening illnesses, and a lot of crying. A whole lot. โ€“GF

I watched Queen In-hyunโ€™s Man with ur opinion. Damn so adorable drama, some plots I watched 5-10 times, some conversations are really cute some places laughted till tears:)))

  2. 802 jan

just want to comment on the published comment for the tv drama, Bad Guy.. while it’s true that the ending didn’t justify the story, i think the producers of this drama had no choice because of the untimely military call for kim nam gil while the drama was ongoing.

  3. 803 Dhelz

FULL HOUSE is the BEST EVER!!!!

  4. 804 harukogirl

I ended up agreeing with you guys on almost 90% of your ratings (of the ones I’d seen), ha ha.

But it’s true that enjoyment is in the eye of the beholders….for example, I put off watching Panda for the longest time due to the negative reviews it got…but my personal rating would be a 7/4. Yeah, it wasn’t that great. But I loved it :D. Well, I loved the bromance and the adopted-grandpa-grandson relationship. Really didn’t care either way about the girl…lol. To me, it’s a lot like It’s OK Daddy’s Girl – there are SO.MANY.FLAWS…. but there is that charm that kept me watching….or is that just Choi Jin Hyuk? Ha ha.

Then there was Love and Marriage. I tried, I really did. Even skipped forward to when the female character was more bearable… in the end, I’d say 3/5.

Nice Guy, Personal Taste and Prosecutor Princess are all on my personal crack list (along with other dramas that got rated high here, these are just the three I’d rate higher than ya’ll do), all at 9/8.

Finally, Beautiful You I’d give a 9/6. But, that’s with the caveat that I’ve read the manga (and seen the other adaptions, none of which I like as much), and I take the drama the same way I do the manga – it doesn’t make sense, it’s just fun :D. Plus, with the background of having read the manga, my mind would automatically fill in the plot holes and not even notice them ^^;; ha ha.

Similarly, I liked Playful kiss more than the quality deserves, also partially due to love of the source material…but thank God, Japan finally did an awesome adaption, so that’s my go-to now :)

There are I few others I rate differently, but on most of my least favorite/ most loved list, our ratings are practically identical….which is probably why I always watch dramas you guys recommend!

That’s why drama watching is such a personal thing, but also why I love your site – there is never the feeling of “you must love what we love!!!!” ha ha. Of course, it’s great that my opinions often match yours, it makes reading recaps and watching shows that you guys love that much more fun….but I’m cool with loving shows you guys couldn’t stand. Like with To the Beautiful You, I stopped reading the recaps. I appreciated your point of view, but my enjoyment was a lot higher on that show without the recaps. Though at other times – like now, with I Can Hear Your Voice, having the recaps increases my enjoyment.

Either ways, thanks for all the time you put into the site – I love it here! :)

  5. 805 Jae Hee

TBH i think Secret Garden deserves a much higher score; the plot was really clever and the characters really had chemistry and their acting was really good.

  6. 806 callalily

where is the rating for Nine?

  7. 807 Alicia

I am super surprised you don’t have “history of the salaryman” up there. I know you guys did recaps for it…

    • 807.1 SweetPea

Javabeans/Girlfriday stated on the top that while they’ve watched a ton of dramas, they’re only rating the ones they have watched in its entirety.

HeadsNo2 (Dramabean writer) was the one that recapped History Of A Salaryman.

  8. 808 xcmk

all time favourites (no particular order):

    1. Queen Inhyun’s Man – chemistry is off the freaking charts I can watch this a thousand times because it is so refreshing and charming

    4. I Hear Your Voice – I was always a fan of Lee Jong Suk but this one just engrained him in my bias list forfreakingever period. So cute. So funny. So heartwrenching. ugh.

    5. Shut Up Flower Boy Band – i’m all for anything with cute guys and bromance

    6. Flower Boy Ramyun Shop – ADORABLE. Flawed, but totally watchable.

    7. Moon that embraces the sun – I know it’s overrated and what not but kim soo hyun made me forget everything plot wise hahahahah

    8. Dream high – super satisfying underdog story

    9. Boys Before Flowers – first kdrama I ever watched and it’s been so long it makes me wonder if I would still fangirl as much as I did. Yeah, probably.

  9. 809 bunni3

Looking forward to your rating of I Hear Your Voice :)

    • 809.1 Evadiva

Me too! I have been checking every day :)

      • 809.1.1 celloangelninja

    • 809.2 Sara love k-everthing

      ME TOO !!

  10. 810 Chloe

I think I’m the only person on this planet who doesn’t find Queen Inhyun’s Man THAT good. I watched it because I’m a fan of Yoo In Na too, so I really expected myself to love it.

But apart from that, I agree with all the rest of the ratings! :)

    • 810.1 celloangelninja

Well tbh I never got a chance to finish it… I just didn’t have much motivation, which Idk why…

  11. 811 Sara love k-everthing

I can’t believe that you haven’t watched “painter of the wind” , it’s one of my absolute fave , it such a GREAT historical drama with a GREAT cast consists of park shin yang and moon geun young , and it’s very emotional in a beautiful way !! I highly recommend it .
also , haven’t you watched “the money war ” it’s also a great drama with park shin yang as its main actor , it’s old but very well done and has a great plot
both of the dramas has great and suited endings that I totally loved !!
I agree with your ratings for the dramas I have watched .
and through the comments I saw that you don’t like Stairway To Heaven or you didn’t watch it , I don’t why but I’ve watched and it is very beautiful and emotional specially that it is based on a true story maybe it was to tragic but in a good way .

    • 811.1 LoveSilents

Painter of the Wind was my first KDrama. I loved every thing about it except the end. Now I know about disappointing or illogical endings. So after about a gazillion KDramas I am still addicted and need more…more I tell you! I love DramaBeans!

  12. 812 drina ros

I can’t wait for the rating of I HEAR YOUR VOICE & MONSTAR, Girls:)
want to read ur comment about both of those drama… please please…

    • 812.1 celloangelninja

I’m checking this ratings page everyday for it!!!

  13. 813 Cocci

“A funny, heartwarming drama about a family who gets turned upside-down when a stray little duckling waddles into their lives.”

Oh my god girlfriday you are a genius! It’s so cute, it’s so true, it made me teary eyed.

  14. 814 celloangelninja

IT’S HERE!!! I HEAR YOUR VOICE IS HERE!!!! … Why such a low rating, jb?? Well it’s all good, I do see your point. ๐Ÿ˜›

  15. 815 SweetPea

Javabean’s rating.. ? ._. lol Looks like the first time Javabean and Girlfriday’s rating has differed this much.

I know the court drama wasn’t that great but overall, the STORY as a whole is excellent. I completely agree with Girlfriday- this Su-Ha and Hye-Sung couple threaten some of my all time OTPs. They’re just so freaking perfect for each other.

    • 815.1 SweetPea

Correction: One of the few times Javabean’s and Girlfriday’s rating has differed this much.

      • 815.1.1 Chloe

        I don’t think 7/8 and 9/9 are very different. Just 1-2 points!

      • 815.1.2 ilikemangos

I tend to notice their ratings quite often differ when they’re not recapping the same show. Which makes me wonder: does recapping increase your love for a show? Hm.

IHYV and K2H comes to mind.

  16. 816 Chloe

Just realized I haven’t caught the 10/10, 10/10 Return of Iljimae.

I should catch it now that things are slowing down since Master’s Sun and Who Are You? are too scary for me.

  17. 817 mizzy

I hear your voice is not perfectly written but i give it a 9.5 since it gave us story that might change once view in revenge and death penalty.

    Something that I always ask.

  18. 818 hehe

I Dont understand why Cruel City is not up there, its a 10/10 and by far better than all the dramas out here, its seriously amazing anyone who has not seen it go see it now you will be addicted by the first episode. you cant get enough of the male lead ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • 818.1 blo

I agree with you. I loved that drama.

  19. 819 Snowstrutt

Just finished Shut up Flower Boy Band because of the high ratings here in dramabeans. Thank you! Love this drama!!!

  20. 820 teresa

Hwang Jin Yi was my very first korean series that i watched and got me watching other stuff.. It was probably the reason why i am now bi-focal!(reading those unreasonably tiny subtitle!).. the only bad thing i can say of this drama was the music at the end.. it was supposed to be great but i did not hear greatness. what i got of it was piercing sound that almost painfully gave me an ear infection, but maybe that’s just not my type of music.. lucky enough for the director that i did not watch this drama until a year after it aired out otherwise, i would have tied the director’s limbs on those horses and let those animals run in every direction as an act of revenge for making my man suffer out in the rain. .. then there’s Hong Gil Dong.. although it fell short on depthness of the story, and plus i did not see any sweet moments exchanged between the lead guy and the female lead..so, i am baffaled and disappointed that she chose Hong gil dong.. yes, i did like the lead guy as well, but it was the 2nd lead guy that had me watching this drama and i can’t believe the director did it again to my man! so while i’m watching him suffer, i had all kinds of idea as to what act of revenge i’m going to apply on that cold hearted director, but in the end, i calmed down and just ended up spitting some words that my mama would be slapping my face if she knew i even though of ’em.! ..then there’s you’re beautiful!.. okay, so you should know by now the reason why i watched this drama..don’t worry i’m not all about jang geun seok only but i have to admit, i did start watching this drama because of him but in the end, it was because of how they the female lead made the arrogant lead fall in love with her.

  21. 821 miszdi

    Hi =)

Hopefully you could update this soon :)

  22. 822 My2Girls

    Hello Ladies,

I was checking to see if you have updated your ratings since the end of summer shows and I noticed that some of the thumbnail photos are in the wrong place. For instance you have a photo from “I Miss You” at the “Monstar” entry, a “Monstar” photo at the “I Hear Your Voice” entry and what I think is a “12 Men in a Year” photo in the “Two Weeks” entry. Or maybe it is just my ipad causing mischef.

    • 822.1 Chloe

i think your ipad is causing major mischief because ive been looking at the ratings every other day and nothing has been amiss ๐Ÿ˜€

  23. 823 My2Girls

Oh and it looks like the photo for “Two Weeks” is hanging out at the “You’re Here, You’re Here, You’re Really Here” entry.

  24. 824 laura

you should watch cruel city, it’s fantastic.

    • 824.1 readlead

I wonder too about JB/GF’s opinion of cruel city since it was one of best kdrama I’ve ever watched!

Btw, I am glad that master’s sun get high rating, glad to know JB enjoyed it so much as mush as best love too, and agree with her, for quality, Best love is still a little better than Master’s sun…

“best love” is best korean rom-com ever in my book! and master’s sun is my most favorite rom-com all time! ๐Ÿ˜€

  25. 825 zuzu malaysia

i think that The Master Sun is the best drama so far.. i hope that you will rate the drama:10 out 10!! hehe.. i luve the way u comment and rate..its..seems honest and truthfull :p

    • 825.1 Joseon

It was good, but certainly not a 10. Maybe a 7.

  26. 826 Chandler

Aww I probably would have given Two Weeks a 9/8 or even a 9/9. I know there were flaws but I thought it was much better than Mandate of Heaven (although I did enjoy that show very much). I guess looking at all of Two Weeks, it was definitely Jang Tae San, Soo Jin and In Hye that carried the show for me. I just loved their storyline so much. Still a very good review!

  27. 827 celloangelninja

2013: the year of some of the best bromances… EVER

  28. 828 aupie

    Yeah! ! ! ! ! ! Soulmate de 10/10 …, duh c’est le meilleur que j’ai vu jusqu’ici drame. Votre score est tout ร  fait juste :)

  29. 829 dramalover

I understand why you rated Secret Garden a lower than expected grade. SG is the first KDrama that I watched and yes, the script, acting, directing, ost, the set and CG effects were well done. Everything is perfect, but it failed to make my heart flatter much. I can’t really relate much to Hyun Bin’s character’s erractic ways, even with the knowledge of the lift incident. His character in MNIKSS also suffers from an accident which left him in shock, but that character is much more relatable.
Also, SG has many lines that are out of the blue, I feel it is a little too much. QIHM’s lead also has many lines that are out of the blue, but the amount is just nice and most importantly, those lines flattered my heart and I really was squeling awwww in the comfort of my bed.
I would give SG 10/8 and QIHM 10/10.

  30. 830 bluesky

    Ouch..ur comment about IMY ใ… .ใ…
I think I’m in the minority here who likes “I Miss You” so much..I watched tooo many melodramas but so far for I Miss You is my favourite..

Now I’m enjoying myself watching “secret”..I wonder how’s the rating for that drama since u didn’t recap that

  31. 831 lolol

waiting for good doctor’s rating >.< ahhh so curious

    • 831.1 kuxi

Me too, it’s most heartwarming drama this year in my opinion. And many praises for joowon’s acting skill (park kiwoong, even lee jongsuk too admire joowon’s acting)

  32. 832 obaekwon

Hi dramabeans! after watching two weeks, ive been really hooked on watching lee jun ki’s dramas. is it possible to do a rating of iljimae?

  33. 833 wong

My all time fav drama is :

    1) Delightful Girl Chun hyang
    2) My Girl
    3) Full House
    4) Goong (abit draggy though)
    5) Queen In Hyun’s Man
    6) Stairways to heaven (Saddest drama i’ve watched…)
    7) Secret Garden
    8) A Gentlemen’s Dignity

BOF is good but i preferred the taiwan version

    • 833.1 Joseon

Gentleman’s Dignity? Are you serious? That was an average drama with a simple story.

  34. 834 Corina

Am I blind or “Ghost” is not in this list??, I’m asking cause I’m currently finishing this drama and It’s sooooo crazy good!! (for me at least) and I would like to know your opinion about it :) thanks!!

    • 834.1 celloangelninja

I think only kae watched that one. I have to agree… LOVED that drama <3

  35. 835 Joseon

You’re missing a terrific drama starring Cha Seungwon and Kim Seona – The City Hall. Their chemistry is has set the benchmark for all future drama relationships.

  36. 836 Joseon

I completely agree with your rating for I Miss You and Moon Embracing the Sun. I didn’t quite understand the high ratings for I Miss You, especially for foreign viewers. That drama was atrocious, and the worst I have ever seen. Moon was just okay. Not sure why it won Best Drama of the Year. I thought it was poorly written, and the story just dragged on. The last episode was okay, though.

    • 836.1 kuxi

It’s because the novel is popular in s.korea like twilight, so there has many fanbase before drama aired. I heard the novel story is better than drama

  37. 837 Joseon

I am not sure why Jealousy is not on anyone’s top ten list. That drama is what started it all. That is a classic.

Also, Feelings (poor translation; it should really be Experience) is another great one. That drama made it very trendy.

    • 837.1 Chandler

I would love to add it to my list and I’m sure a lot of others would to, but unfortunately its a problem of finding access to it. I periodically check to see if its been uploaded somewhere, but it still hasn’t.

    • 837.2 celloangelninja

Actually I’m pretty sure Neukkim is Feelings… At least when you translate it directly into korean..

      • 837.2.1 Joseon

When ‘neukkim’ is used in a sentence, it does not mean feeling.

    Hi there

Love your website. I come here often for recaps. I am disappointed that you aren’t doing recaps for “Secret Love”. I regret starting this drama before it completed, because now it is torture waiting for the next two episodes. The acting is great and the chemistry between all the main actors is really really good. I was surprised that Ji Sung took on a drama so soon after his wedding. Maybe he and Park Bo Young don’t have good chemistry. Ha ha. I loved her in “Can you Hear my Heart” Her chemistry with Lee Jong Suk was great and sucked you into the drama.

Anyway, please reconsider “Secret Love” Thanks

    • 838.1 bjoi

      Lol! So much fail…

      *Lee bo young
      *I hear your voice

He already took on the drama before his wedding and it is just so absurd you insinuated that he took it because he doesn’t have good chemistry with this wife who by the way he has been dating over 5 years now.

  39. 839 Xi

Two Weeks is definitely one of my favourite dramas ever! I would give it 10/10.

  40. 840 Chandler

oooooooo I just noticed the rating you gave Nine! I’ve been wondering whether to watch it or not and now I definitely will!
Also I was wondering if you were going to give a rating to Sweet 18? I know you said you were going to do a series review or something. Obviously with all the dramas right now that might be kind of hard…

    • 840.1 Leanney

It’s a drama that requires the audience to think a lot more than the average drama. And you seriously can’t predict what would happen next. After the 4th episode, you would be sold hook, line and sinker, if you are into that kind of drama. I love it!

  41. 841 Leanney

So glad to see that you rated Nine – 9/9. I love the drama and was disappointed when Dramabeans decided not to recap it.

  42. 842 vawnki

I think you forgot to put conspiracy in the court on this list… I remember you guys recapped it.

  43. 843 Busha

Why didn’t delightful girl choon hyang get 10/10????

  44. 844 mi

I think we’ve got the same taste ๐Ÿ˜› but the list is missing King of Baking, Kim Tak Goo it’s a wonderful drama..

  45. 845 Aigoooo

Thanks Dramabeans! You’re site has been very informative and a good guide for future Kdrama watching. I’ve only been watching Kdramas for a few months so I am by no means a veteran but from what I have watched so far (maybe 20), Coffee Prince, Answer Me 1997 and Scent of a Woman (in that order) are the best three.

  46. 846 hAil3Y

I’m so happy Nine got a 9! Loveee that show, it’s what made me love Lee Jin Wook ๐Ÿ˜€

  47. 847 spi

I just finished watching Shut up Flower Boyband. What a great show! I’ve been watching Korean dramas since the old time of Feeling and stuff (my fav is The Street King) and I never felt so glad as I did with Shut up. Thank you so much for recommending it!!

  48. 848 lovely_angel

Hi jb and gf! Just want to ask, haven’t any of you watch All About Eve? Just askin’

  49. 849 alex

Anyone give gumiho and kim sam soon 10 /10 even if hong sisters wrote it. I could not watch leadactress in kimsamsoon and gumiho…nothing there…seriously..i am not asian so i do not understand why people like certain drama. For me MY GIRL Is best. 2nd is secret garden. watched only 6 drama so far. Started stopped 20. so i am still work in progress. LEE DA HAE is girl to beat. Anyone act better than her in a drama , i probably like them.

  50. 850 alex

One thing i am happy about is FULL house u rated low. I agree. I watched 2 episdoe i could not continue. I may be bored but i am not wasting time too at beautiful face who can not act or have charisma.

Every one have different taste and need. What i look for korean drama and no idea about korea in general , i only see acting and doing it with charisma.

Only one girl have charisma LEE DA HAE.

I probably watch all the shows u ranked 10 but it all depends on first episode…if it drags i probably won’t watch. if any drama has something special , i probably watch. I already see formula in all these dramas but some have great script writing. Most do not have good end… some shows try to make it longer for reasons unlnown and drag it.

I am only here to watch best of best drama. And i waste my time going through all blogs which rated Boys over flowers , full house , gumiho , simsam soon , coffee , princess hours..etc…seriously all these dramas are complete waste of time. I am in exploration mode…so i am only want to see drama with people lots of charisma.

I have come to conclusions koreans do not make good action drama actually no country can do except usa. But koreans can make good comedy action …My wife is a gangster is unique comedy i watched 5 years ago.
Korean action drama script writing is so awful … my brain WTF…

Some have great script writing ..like secret garden. Story is bad with body switching… other than acting was excellant. OKSA was killing it.

There are lots of good , but need good acting actresses. At present i start and stop almost all because i did not like lead actresses acting.

Anyways … i have few more drams to go before i start explore japanese and taiwanese dramas for hidden gems.

    • 850.1 vine

“I have come to conclusions koreans do not make good action drama ”
How many action kdramas have you already completed to come up with that conclusion? There are a ton of great action dramas out there, you should go and ‘explore’ more.

      • 850.1.1 alex

Watched athena. Then started iris 2 episode 1. It was so awful ..wanted to watch it for LEE DA HAE..can’t stand that script…its plain awful.

I watch with english subtitles..based on that it sucks arse.

Athena initially give me 24 TV show impression but it had bad bad Support actors. Villain , hero were ok but support actors lack of acting skills killed athena.

That said i saw warrior way Movie Jang Dong-gun a lead. It was pretty good. We r not talking movie. But as a drama i do not think mainly because budget and script. Especially spy action drama not working.

I stopped city hunter after first 2 episode..it was slow.

I make comments based on what i know..its not fool proof…if you have suggestion of drama i watch.. No historical action drama.

        • 850.1.1.1 Cocoboo

I’ve watched Athena and IRIS 2. I admit they were bad dramas.

There are other action/thriller dramas that are good. I recently watched Heartless City aka Cruel City. I recommend it. It’s full of action and intensity, but it’s also violent and bloody.

          Two Weeks was great too.

  51. 851 Dakchigo

Has JB finished “History of the Salaryman” or “Color of Woman”? I remember those two dramas included in her year-end review last year. I’m curious especially for “Salaryman” and I wonder if the last third of the drama left a bad taste just like it did with me.

I also wish Heads and Gummimochi could put their ratings too. That would be fun. Besides, they have watched dramas that JB and GF did not see. Thanks, Dramabeans!

  52. 852 alex

prosecutor princess horrible drama in first 3 episode. I think the author is a moron in my opinion. What i found shocking is HELLO Miss actress girlfriend is same and same annoying lead actress and girl friend in both drama. Seriously people its not even comedy..pathtic waste of time.

Sometime people have different taste…may low expectation that make them overhype idiotic drama

  53. 853 alex

Finally finished Coffee Prince Store #1 . its direction was good…i mean there are small moments it captured well. But this drama missing something. Its very average drama. Not sure why it is in everyones list at all. Tomboy actress was good in tomboy but not as girl. And can not cry well either.

    • 853.1 ByeolShinAng

I completely agree about ‘Coffee Prince’. While the acting was good all round, there was definitely something missing…

  54. 854 alex

Watching nice guy…it had great beginning..now i am in 12 th episode…i can see where it goes from now. Only thing good in this drama is MOON CHAE WON. Beautiful face. She looks great in video than any pic.

    • 854.1 nanako

You missed the mark. If there’s only one good point to this drama, it will be Song Joong Ki ^___^

Moon Chae Won is a very comfortable actress to watch. Of her shows, I like Princess’ Man the best.

      • 854.1.1 Ivana

second that! I’ll shoot fireworks in the air the day Song Joong Ki comes out of the military!

  55. 855 alex

wtasched Heartstrings for park shyn hye. Its crap

    • 855.1 Nne123

Thought so too. Couldn’t finish the show.

  56. 856 Nne123

Hi dramabeans, how come there is no Cruel or Heartless city and Empire of Gold are not in the list. This two were really good. I thought Empire of Gold was unique. Hated the end though. The show had me on the edge of my sit always.

  57. 857 alex

i saw A Gentlemanโ€™s Dignity in someof people list. Watched 3 episode. Its utter crap drama. I am not sure what people thinking. Seriously. Its not even funny. It was just plain boring. Nothing new for me to even like this crap

  58. 858 alex

Finished greatest love. Its was ok… I just could not connect with actress even though its not her fault she just not good looking. She should do nose surgery like every south korean actress. Because she can act , all she need is some work done to make her likable. Lead actor is ok, not that great for me. Secret garden had second lead guy who would have killed this role.

    • 858.1 Nne123

I’ve tried to watch Greatest love multiple times but can’t get beyond 3rd episode. I just cant stand the look of the male lead. The female lead is not beautiful , but she is attractive, funny and a damn good actress. I hope she doesn’t do any surgery. There are already too many good looking actors who think there job is to CAT WALK and not ACT.

    • 858.2 wan2tree

This is such a sad comment.
I think the actress in Greatest Love is beautiful but even if she wasn’t, to say she should “do nose surgery like every south korean actress” is disgusting. What, she should get surgery so she can look generic or “likable” as you put it? Ugh. And people wonder why so many young girls have self image issues…

  59. 859 alex

watching My Fair Lady … OKSA guy in secret garden as lead. he look like pervert. bad casting. He was awsome in secret garden. Weight of lead killing him. He is not doing well as lead at all. No chemistry …kinda unlikable character like voyeur pervert.

What a awsome DAVICHI song… Hot Stuff – Rocking OST. Probably best OST. I know my girl was OST was good but this one is killing better than appear song by kim bum soo in secret garden.

    • 859.1 nanako

Gave up that show halfway. It’s not very worth the time. The only time Yoon Sang-Hyun (Oska) shined was in I hear Your Voice. He was not great even in Secret Garden.

    • 859.2 YoeYoe

Juz assuming on how you judge dramas, let me recommend you a drama ‘Ghost’ I juz notice DB didn’t rate it, although I don’t know why, it somehow a good drama.

      • 859.2.1 rheapill

by Ghost are you referring to Phantom? the one with So Ji Sub in it? cause if that drama was the one you’re referring to, then i second the motion. That drama was awesome and entertaining and though it had a different premise with Bloody Monday (Japanese drama which stars Miura Haruma), i feel like it was inspired by it.

  60. 860 John Smith

My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho is the worst K drama ever. How can you rate it so highly?

    • 860.1 otchosais

      we have differences in opinion..

      and like what you asked..
how can you say its the worst KDrama ever???

      • 860.1.1 adkslk

I’d say Heirs was one of the worst dramas I’ve ever watched.

  61. 861 rheapill

i watch Soulmate yesterday and yeah, i may not grade it 10 but i would give it 9.7. lol so little difference in the rating. I love it really, so much that i immediately rewatch the scenes of the main couple after finishing. I’m glad we feel the same way with that drama. Yeah, it was a bit frustrating at first but as soon as you see the main couple getting closer and closer, i don’t know, i can forget & forgive all those unnecessary scenes.hehe I might post later my best Korean dramas & asian dramas. I have kept a record of all the dramas I have watched & rated it. I would be glad to share it here :)

  62. 862 Isaiah

Soulmate is easily on my top 3 dramas. Such an underrated drama. I’m going crazy trying to convince my friends to watch it! haha

  63. 863 zuzu malaysia

why do the drama “The Heirs” have not been rated yet? is it possible that the drama have not finished yet??? haha by the way, i love the drama!! WOO BIN..

  64. 864 Susie

Please rate the “Heirs”! Please, please, pretty please

    • 864.1 Elizabeth

Yes, I’ve been waiting for that!

  65. 865 wong

My all time fav drama has to be “Delightful Girl Chun Hyang”, it has funny and sad factors to it. I absolutely adore the male lead (his personality in this drama is definitely my cup of tea).

“Your are beautiful” is great too, liked the innocence of park shin hye in this drama. Jang geun suk melts me when he acts all cute when he is alone.

To me , “Heartstring is more like a “fan service” drama which is not-that-good…

“My girl” and “Full house ” is awesome too !

Btw, is reply 1997 and answer me 1997 the same drama?? Is “Dream High” a” fan service” drama? (I noticed that most of the actors and actresses are in the music industry)

Waiting for your rating for “The Heirs”. Heard alot of news about this drama thru alllkop whenever i surf fb

  66. 866 nanako

What?! Stairway to Heaven, Iljimae and Romance (by Kim Jae Won) not listed? And An Autumn’s Story listed but not rated? Geez… latecomers eh?

  67. 867 tootsie

I dare them to rate Heirs at 6/6 or lower, which I think it deserves.

    I don’t think that’s gonna happen *sigh*

    • 867.1 celloangelninja

I have to agree… I tried to watch it for all the good looking people in it but I just couldn’t. Too many tears that weren’t necessary. I just wish they kept a little more of the humor and light-heartedness, instead of going full on makjang corporate “I shouldn’t like this poor girl but I luff her but I’m going into denial” stuff. So much wasted potential… :((

    • 867.2 Pearl~ai88

“Dare” them? I respect JB and GF too much to think that they would change their stated opinions based merely on a drama’s popularity, as this comment seems to imply. And as you can see now, they both gave it a 5.

  68. 868 Sara

Could you add cruel city up there, it’s the best drama I’ve seen. I want to see how you would rate it.

  69. 869 fmm

    You ranked Secrete 7 !!!! now i dare u to give Heirs 6 :)

  70. 870 Daphnee

Dearest Javabeans, please rate “The Heirs” as soon as you can since youโ€™ve already watched and recapped it! I’ve been waiting for your rating like forever and been coming to this page like EVERYDAY just to view your rating and the overall mini-review that you post for each drama here!

P.S. Enjoyed your Heirs recap as well! Good stuff! Keep it up :)

  71. 871 Ivana

The Heirs rating is spot on! It was a hard drama to rate given such a difference between the popularity and quality of the show. Had been checking quite often for this update, and I couldn’t agree more with it.

  72. 872 charmcasy

    dramabeans thanks 4 everything dude!
sometimes even though i watch the dramas i come here to read ur opinions and an element of wit n humour that u incorporate into ur writings!!
after watching a string of k dramas my best five are
    (no particular order though)
    my girl
    you are bful
    city hunter
    moon embracing sun
    flower boy ramyun shop!
eventhough sometimes i do disagree with ur ratings but i guess that wt we call diff ppl diff perception!
but ur website is like my “k-lexicon” !
thank u to the power infinity! :)

  73. 873 Kristy

Masters sun is given more points than Answer me 1994
then how come answer me is chosen as best rom-comedy(?) on the editors pick???

    • 873.1 bb

Editor’S pick = plural form, meaning it wasn’t just JB and GF who voted, it was also Heads and Gummi. I think majority of them voted for answer me, not just in general aspects of the show but they compared different parts(i.e. acting, writing, directing, music, laugh factor, comedy). This ratings list is only written by JB and GF.

  74. 874 sally

i watch the drama because of the leads but sometimes left it when the story or the acting is just a so so :)
these are some of my most memorable kdramas:
    tree of heaven (i cried a lot);
    thank you (i fell in love with jang hyuk and gong hyo jin); master’s sun;
    coffee prince;
    princess hours(my old time and lifetime love);
    smile you;
    im sorry i love you;

i watched a lot and one of the ‘greatest obstacle’ for me esp when i really want to try and understand everthing about the drama is when the subtitle is on its worst form and during those times, i am so thankful that there is someone like you who took pains on doing a very very accurate recap!

    thanks, a million thanks :)

  75. 875 sally

i forgot to say, i think the heirs was a waste of everything…something was lacking :(

and currently i am addicted to my love from another star…feel like pulling all the wednesdays and thrusdays of the weeks together!

but emergency couple somehow fills the waiting

  76. 876 otchosais

    waah!!! totally agree with

to add newer dramas like Master’s Sun, IHYV and the latest, is MY LOVE FROM ANOTHER STAR :)

    • 876.1 Sakura

We have very similiar taste =)
But I would take Secret Garden off the list and add in Flower Boy Ramyun Shop instead

  77. 877 dana

bridal mask ( Gaksital ) is the best

  78. 878 Jill

I’m Sorry, I Love You nowhere on your list? I’m amazed.

  79. 879 Segan6

I would love to see the old drama Propose (1997). I can’t find it anywhere to watch online. Does anyone know where I can search for it?

Thank you so much for all the hard work we really appreciate all the effort that goes into the recaps that you release.

  80. 880 Dramadairy

The “I Miss You” review is one of many reasons your site is fabulous! You all give voice to viewers’ love and utterly dismal frustration! Thank you!

  81. 881 Skyofblue

Well, now that YFAS has ended…. I don’t even know what I’m going to do with myself. I know I’ll move on eventually, but Song Hi and Min Joon hold a special place with me.

Top three dramas I’ve seen (in no particular order):
    – The Princess Man
    – My Love From the Star
    – I Hear Your Voice

I’ve seen someone named Alex coming on this part of the site a lot? Alex, I would recommend you try these. And have patience through them for at least three episodes. They are all amazing in terms of story telling, and then everything else is a shining plus too.

  82. 882 Didi

How can ‘ Heirs’ only have 5/5? from the very first 10 minutes, I fell in love with it. I watched it twice already. I adored the part when lee min ho fell in love with park shin hye at first sight. I just loved the chemistry between kim tan and cha eun sang. But thanks for the ratings, I know which shows i’ll give a try and which ones to avoid.

    • 882.1 Jen

I’m actually surprised that they rated it that high, I personally rate it a 2/3.

      • 882.1.1 cali

I agree. I would have put in the Level 7 Civil Servant category of “this show never happened what is this heirs of which you speak”

    • 882.2 Seeshell

      -the plot was too obvious
-the chemistry was really bad (looked as if lmh was kissing a rock whenever they had a kiss scene)
-everything in the drama was just -________- sooooo baddd that you can’t even describe it

  83. 883 FGB4877

First, thanks a lot for your ratings. On the other hand, there are shows that when I saw them were simply beautiful, but I don’t know if I would like to marathon trough them again.

  84. 884 fan

I checked this link several years ago. Wow we have had many good shows since then (and too many dramas to catch on). I don’t have a crack show since I hear your voice and You from another star currently, yet I enjoy most of all shows currently airing – Golden Cross, ANL, YAAS, Dr.Stranger (or strange doctors?), Big man, triangle, JungDoJeon, DalRae, JangBori, Wonderful seaon, even Hotel king. Yes. I don’t have a life. Still Happy as can be.

    • 884.1 fan

Oops, how I forgot Witch’s romance, Angel’s eyes and Grandpa investigation unit.

There have been a few dramas which were kind of turning point in my drama watching experience for decades.

Jealousy was my first drama and I still remember mother (KCS) and Daughter (CJS)’s conversation about why her mom and dad got drift apart.
Sandglass- I still remember some car scene with epic music (And felt awfully gloomy).
Piano – Misterious. I was sad for GoSoo.
Autume Tale- I was in awe at picturesque scenes
Damo – All the emotions with beautiful cinemagraphy.
DaeJangGeum – I thought Sir Min was the best husband material (still think he is the best, even though there have been tons more since in dramaland).
Immortal YiSoonSin – Made me spent tons to money to rent and buy video tapes, DVDs, Video copiers, DVD copiers. Also this drama made me to start watching long series like daily.
Coffee Prince – Wow that is bold- I thought.
BOF – I started to watch dramas on computer. Thanks to this, I started to watch J- and TW-dramas also. And I am glad that we start to have flower boys in drama casting.
Reply 1997- I am glad this drama made SaTuRi(southen accent mostly) popular in dramas. I am glad we see more dramas with variety of backgrounds other than Seoul.

And thanks to cable, there have been some good dramas different from what I expect from Korean dramas like Monstar, Let’s eat, Nine, Heartless city, Secret love affair.
All in all, I am glad that we have more dramas then ever, meaning higher possiblity for more good/different dramas. Fighting!

  85. 885 Mia

I absolutely love your blog! Your ratings have been so helpful in telling me which dramas I should and which dramas I shouldn’t watch. Thanks so much!!!

  86. 886 kaikat

why does man from another star has no rating yet…

  87. 887 Pratyusha

Can we get a rating for A Gentleman’s Dignity please? I know that either javabeans or girlfriday has recapped the whole thing, but I wanted an overall opinion. Thanks!

  88. 888 Des

Prosecutor princess made me a fan of PSH. I love his acting. Very intense, especially in princess’ man. His smile is an added bonus! :3

  89. 889 Evadiva

When will You Who Came from The Stars aka You From Another Star be added? Java beans recapped the drama…

  90. 890 sarangh

love ur cover;;;;; aish…! i love her MORE.. ๐Ÿ˜›

  91. 891 a girl

    well hello,
this is the first time i comment here . i am truly dessapointed of how you rated I NEED ROMANCE u_u i mean i admit the first one was bad , but the other two are amazing … absolutely must watch them, lee jin wook in INR2 was dreaaaaaaaaaaaamy *___* and sung joon in INR3 made me fal in love immediately !
xx keep up the good work

  92. 892 Akan

why is inspiring generation not there?

  93. 893 john

When are you going to write ratings on Doctor Stranger and Age of Feelings??? I really want to know…

    • 893.1 cali

I’ve noticed all (if not most?) of the ratings given are from JB and GF and are from series that they’ve recapped. Gummi and Heads both recapped Age of (NO) Feeling and Doctor Strange(love)r. They’ll show up in the year in review recaps.

On this note, I’d love to have Heads and Gummi add input to the ratings too! They’re recapped so many dramas that I’d love to see them on the list. It’d add to the database and give another set of ratings and thoughts!

  94. 894 wien

Waiting for YAAS score.. Don’t be too hard on this drama pliss.. ๐Ÿ˜€ i know it’s lacking in slowliness of the plot, but the finale kinda pays it all.. i mean, the “evidence room” kiss, the countryside police cuteness while chasing chicken thieve,, it was definitely a scene that i’ll remember for a long time.. ๐Ÿ˜€

  95. 895 LKS

Pleased Queen In-Hyun’s Man got high ratings. Agree with a lot of both your opinions.
    What about The Slave Hunters?

    • 895.1 Pearl~ai88

Isn’t that Chuno? Already on this list.

  96. 896 mai

Hello JB, THANK YOU so much for this :-)

I have been watching Kdramas for more than a year now and i have been hooked since Personal Taste and City Hunter. I used to watch indiscriminately and there have been many times that I berated myself for not choosing well. I often had to suffer through bad dramas just because I keep hoping the story will get better as it progresses. I usually finish a series no matter how awful it is, i don’t know why.

When I found Dramabeans, I was so happy that you gave good ratings to the shows that I liked, for example, Coffee Prince, Soulmate, Bottom of the 9th with 2 Outs, Best Love and City Hunter. With your ratings in mind, I have watched many dramas that I thoroughly enjoyed. So thank you once again. I really look forward to more of your ratings because I treat the top-rated ones as your recommendations :-)

More power to your site JB and GF and the minions!

  97. 897 Ssie

(I’m just commenting to express my gratitude)

This list has helped me a lot! It helped me discover Dal Ja’s Spring, which is now definitely on my top 5 dramas. Also, Que Sera Sera, Soulmate, and The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry. I was still studying back then, and didn’t have time to watch these shows when they aired. Glad that I was able to catch up on what I was missing. So thanks, thanks so much!

Agree with some of the ratings, especially MNIKSS and My Girl. Classic favourites! Also agree with the commenters on Secret Garden hahaha I don’t know why when it isn’t analysed, it is quite enjoyable (or maybe it has helped me go through one of the most stressing phase of my career-life that’s why it will always be special). I tried watching Gumiho more than thrice because of the raving reviews but still couldn’t get past episode 6 ๐Ÿ˜

(Surprised though to have seen You Who Came from The Stars with a 9. Maybe I really was one of the very few who didn’t get invested with anything about the show save for Jeon Ji Hyun.)

  98. 898 Asu

I was so happy with the Kim Sam Soon rating! I don’t usually see people talk about it, but it’s easily one of my favorites.

  99. 899 simplyhaidz

I’m a certified K-drama addict and being in this site gives me an idea of what to watch next..for me the worst drama from these list that I have watch so far was coffee house & Hotelier..I love Bae Yong-joon in winter sonata & Kang Ji-Wan in Lie to me.But those 2 drama really disappoints me..

  100. 900 simplyhaidz

I hate watching K-drama online because my internet connection sucks..can anyone tell me where to buy a copy of all this stuff here in the Philippines..I stop buying pirated Dvd’s because its prohibited, but I’m wondering if there is a specific place here in NCR that sells these stuff or can I buy it online…
