Because of the Coronavirus, my university decided that we have to teach online. That’s new to me since I have never prepared an online course. Now, I am so behind on Musicmarch posts.
I heard today that Google has instructed their employees, whether working in the U.S. or abroad, to start working from home right away until the beginning of April. It’s better to prevent people from getting the virus than to cure them if they got it, isn’t it?
I know. Actually the university’s initial plan for my course is to begin teaching online from April onwards; somehow, the students did not want this. They want the online instruction to begin right away because of the increasing number of Coronavirus patients, so…
Well, all my traveling plans just came to an end. As easy, as that.
My university, too, has ordered us to stay at home. In the 6 years I’ve been here, I’ve never had a spring break and we’ve been given an unexpected spring break after which, online classes resume. There are only about 17 cases in my country but they’re taking precautions as the country cannot handle an outbreak.
Apparently, according to my teacher, who’s a doctor and a native, the country’s healthcare is at the brink of death and an outbreak is all it needs to bring it crashing to the ground. To top it off, our university is a teaching hospital and also, houses the largest hospitals in the whole Northern-Eastern region. So, essentially, we can’t avoid said outbreak and the population is mainly geriatric and we have a large population of international students who also went home.
Now that there are no classes, internationals can’t travel to their country and because we don’t have only a few diagnosed patients (so far), students – despite a lot of them are medics students and should know better – have been released to the public and have nothing to do so, outside I’d even more crowded than normal. 🙃
Even my proffesssors are doing online classes. We even had our mids cancelled and every professor was given the flexibility to decide however they want to cover for it. Some decided on take home assignment and some online exams(no idea how they work) but now the off has been extended to 30th may by the govt but we are still waiting for an official announcement from our uni! But I think they ‘ll stick with online classes otherwise we’ll have our semester resume from june/July!
