I finally managed to check out the Taiwanese BL HIStory series too. It’s no wonder that Crossing the Line is the best rated of all. You can easily see the difference in quality, if you compare it with the others.

It gives me hope. Taiwanese production companies can consider to make drama adaptations from Wu Ze’s novels. I think it’s feasible. Priest ones are too tough as her plotlines are of blockbuster scale. I don’t think budget will be a problem for slice of life genres aka Wu Ze’s. The biggest problem is always actor casting. SIGHS.

On a side note, Iโ€™m itching for more BL novels. Beanies, do let me know if you have good recommendations, preferably contemporary/modern ones instead of historial/period. 😁

Taiwan definitely does BL right, imo, I actually just finished another Taiwan BL last night hehe 😉 โ€œBecause Of You 2020โ€, I definitely recommend it

Thank you for the recommendation. I watched Stay Away From Me last night. I was surprised how tame it is in comparison to the others I’ve watched.

Crossing the Line is one of the best BLs because it actually treats the characters as genuinely queer characters and not fan service queer characters. That’s not to say that there’s no fan service in there. Those kisses are some of the best in BL history. But they actually take the time to show how the two leads fall for each other. If it isn’t already apparent, I often forget there’s another couple in Crossing the Line. 😙🎶

Speaking of how characters fall for each other, Fandy Fan is one of the best actors I’ve come across in a BL. He absolutely sells his character. So yes, casting is incredibly important for a BL.

If one or both leads aren’t ok with being intimate with another dude, it almost always shows. Addicted/Heroin is another drama that benefited greatly from the chemistry and above average acting skills of its actors. Chemistry isn’t everything though.

Jake Hsu and Chris Wu had really good chemistry in Trapped, but the storyline was a bit frustrating to deal with sometimes. The crime storyline sucked, the love storyline had a ton or potential, but lived up to about 3/4 of it. I think this is because BL dramas tend to lack focus. They often want to feature more than one couple which makes both couples suffer and too many external factors/storylines tend to bog things down. Focus can be rewarding.

HIS: I Didn’t Think I Would Fall In Love and Mood Indigo both benefit from being focused dramas that are telling gay/queer stories that, I would argue, took into consideration a queer/gay audience in addition to a fujoshi audience like Crossing the Line did.

HAHAHA, coz we all love BLs. <3

I agreed to what you said about Trapped, & actually many BL dramas. They lack focus. Which is why I tend to go to novels instead of the dramas. I wish I could intro you all the awesome chinese BL novels that I have read, but you will need the translations in order to check them out. ARGH.

I agree with a lot of what you posted. I’ve actually thought about watching HIS: I Didnโ€™t Think I Would Fall In Love. Where were you able to watch it?
