I watched Arrietty, which is an anime from Studio Ghibli, yesterday, and I just loved every moment watching it. Watching this one brought me back to the days when I enjoyed Cartoons such as The Rose of Versailles, Sonic the Hedgehog, etc. I don’t know if I’m mistaken or not, but I always feel like there were better cartoons in the past compared to the ones provided in the present. Though the present day cartoons are better drawn, with more vibrant colors and many of them look very much like real people, the stories are more difficult for me to watch and sometimes I even consider them unimaginative at best, and toxic at worst.
This is one song I just love from Arrietty, one of the non-toxic cartoons around.
The attached link is a covered version of Neglected Garden, one of the osts of the movie. The original one isn’t on Youtube as there is a copyright issue here.
Right, I guess so. No matter which time period we grew up in, perhaps we always remember it so fondly that we think no other time periods are better that that one.
I think the variety of different techniques in animation is still not beatable. I find today’s animation very lookalike, very factory kind of product. I try to introduce my kid ( the other one is too small to watch anything on screen, I hope he will avoid it until he will be 3 years old) different animation movies or little series from different countries. Some of them he doesn’t like but when he’s asking again for them I’m glad to see that.
My all time favourite from Studio Ghibli is Howth Moving Castle.
It’s one of the best. Spirited Away and the latest The Red Turtle are as well soooo good. But Howl’s moving castle it’s my personal shining little star.

I think we all have the same feelings about the cartoons we watched when were small.
