I’ve been trying to catch up a bit on SM artists these days and am I the only one surprised at how cheap most of their mvs look? Meanwhile we have smaller companies doing movielike, super expensive-looking mvs with a plot and everything. I mean, they earn gazillions every year, yet they let other agencies upstage them like this? I find that to be a rather odd choice on their part..

Anyways! ^^ I actually came here bc I wanted to tell you that I listened to your EXO recommendations 🙂 I don’t think I’ll ever love their music or anything, but I liked some of their slower songs and I was super surprised at finding out that Chen is actually a really good singer (esp in that Up Rising solo), so I just wanted to let you know that you have succesfully improved my thoughts on them as singers ^^ Thank you for all the recommendations, it was great to get to listen to some of their lesser known songs!

I’m glad you appreciate Chen’s singing. He’s apparently the best Singer technique-wise in EXO although I’m very partial to DO’s voice the most. I don’t know much about other artist’s music videos since EXO and Vromance are the only groups I stan. Vromance has only released two MVs, the first one for She was very low-maintenance and the second one for I’m Fine was nice with a good plot. For EXO, a lot of their MVs are performance based so I don’t think they would have much of a plot going on. They usually save stuff like that for their concert VCRs. What I do like about their music videos is sometimes they include EXO-ls in it. Like sneaking our birthday into the Ko Ko Bop and Power MVs. If you ever get a chance, you can check out some of the EXO-l theories about their MVs on YouTube. If nothing else, at least they’re very entertaining to watch.

I’d definitely say he’s the best based on the live vids I’ve just seen. He’s consistently in tune and seems very comfortable with even the harder ballady songs. I thought DO would be the most stable singer since he’s mostly the one I see mentioned as a good singer, but was really happy to find that there are other capable singers in the group as well 🙂

Ahh okay, I just tend to listen to anything and everything when it comes to music, no matter if I generally like a group or not, so I tend to assume others do too, sorry haha ^^
K-pop is actually known for high-end mvs and other agencies do more performance based mvs too, it’s just that compared to them, SM’s seem to bepretty low budget hence being surprised. As an example, most of the YG and BTS mvs I’ve seen look super expensive, even the non-plot performance-based ones, so I just assumed that SM did the same. (It’s not that I feel like it reflects poorly on EXO or anything btw don’t worry, I know they’re not the ones deciding the budget and stuff, I just thought it’s a shame that such high-earning groups don’t get super expensive mvs ^^ It’s interesting that they have more plot-based things on concert VCRs instead tho) Aww that’s so nice, including that in their mvs.

I just found out recently that DO had really bad stage fright early on in their career so his voice would shake somewhat when they performed live, I think it’s gotten better now because his voice doesn’t shake as much. Xiumin also tends to shake sometimes (note that they are the two shyest members of EXO), I noticed this in CBX’s performance of As I Live when his left hand shook so bad when he had to hit a particularly high note. Chen has the most range in EXO, although Xiumin’s hits the highest note, he’s capable of going all the way to a whistle if he only trained his voice. Baekhyun used to strain a lot while singing high, this was noticeable in performances of songs like El Dorado and Black Pearl, he has much better control now too. All their voices have improved remarkably since debut.
Lol, sorry for the long reply I just really love to talk about EXO. Hahaha.

Awww that’s such a shame. It can really mess with your singing when your mental state isn’t at its best. I know the bassist in FTI has the same problem, he’s a really good singer and does super well in concerts, but whenever he has to sing on TV or radio he gets so nervous that he’ll even sometimes be really off pitch despite usually not being. As someone who loves to sing I know how it feels to have your throat tense up because of nerves and you just feel like such a failure even though you know you can do better. I’m really glad he’s gotten more comfortable, I hope he’ll be able to gain enough confidence to be completely at ease on stage 🙂

It’s funny really, there are quite a lot of celebrities who in reality seem like super shy people. I wonder if they choose that career because they don’t count on ever becoming famous or if the drive to be artistic via acting, singing etc is just too strong to resist.

I love it when idol singers keep improving! A lot just seem to be stuck at a certain level and I feel so sad when they have good voice tones, but don’t really take time to improve their technique, it’s such a waste.

Ha, no worries, clearly I write long replies too 😛 Anything to do with culture and it’s hard to shut me up lol.
