    Have you experienced Mamamoo though

Also, K-pop is more than just idol groups. AKMU. Bolbbalgan4.

mamamooo.. saw them on knowing brother.. they were atleast a group of women (and not typical idols.. so that’s a good thing).. their main singer has a strong voice.. not listened to their songs but she seemed good. (short hair.. really strong voice)

      AKMU – 1n2d – their song wasn’t great..so didn’t bother checking them out.. but its a cute bro-sis duo

bolbbalgan4 – theme song of HEART SIGNAL lol… i am still playing it on loop 😛 .. then i tried one more song but didn’t like it so came back to the heart signal song 😀

oh yeah.. psy is different..looks wise , don’t know abut music though .. atleast ain’t good looking 😛 ..

this made me realize, i seem to know of/explore kpop/songs/etc more from dramas and variety

dresses..even music in general (atleast all these idol songs same EDM..its commercial but standardized commercial… 😛 ) ..

I suspect, more than paying attention to nuances of an individual, its really a question of whom you started to recognize first and thus became “aware” of the members.. and thereby the fan relationship you may have..

seriously confused.. height is also same .. who is not a good dancer? who is not a good singer..

    Q. rather should be who are innovative and creative enough to make music on their own..

And girls are worse.. if it werent’ for 1n2d and heechul..’m sure i would not be able to tell twice apart from red velvet or other myriad groups (ioi, gfriend..just name them..)

I used to think so too, and then I discovered BTS. Haha. So what follows is a defence:

I think pop music in the US has a very distinct sound/feel/look/concept. In the same way, pop music from Korea has another distinctive sound/feel/look/concept/etc. Even though individual artists and songs are obviously very varied. Basically, what I want to say that the language, region, what’s popular at that time in that place, etc – these factors will influence the music/performance.

As a resident of India, I think there is lots of variety in Bollywood for example (though I don’t particularly like it), but someone with a more distant view may be able to easily categorise it all into Bollywood.

I dunno if that made sense. My thoughts aren’t very clear.

I think that was very clear and a great, succinct defense.

But I love K-pop so I’m biased lol.

I understand what you are saying.. but i am not talking about the music per se.. i am more intrigued with people going crazy for the bands/groups/idols.. they are literally THE SAME..

and then when people praise a particular group’s choreography.. i honestly get confused.. because its the same steps.. hip hop mixed with lockin poppin.. at max some lyrical stretches here and there

the videos that are made..so mundane..same mix of colors or highlighting black.. there is less variety

then the personalities themselves.. its like 1 has to fit the 4D character, 1 has to fit the gayish or ladyish character .. the overzealousness is being “multi-talented” or funny..

and women.. they don’t dance.. they just do sexy moves.. how is that dance..in what world is that dance?

Hmm okay I’ll admit that I am indeed largely talking about the music – what distinguishes, to me, BTS from most other K-pop. But even so, the choreography isn’t the same. There are some groups with MUCH harder steps, some are bands, some are self-produced for example. Also, looks do differ – YG groups – as I’ve recently discovered thanks to @obsessedmuch – have a far more sexy/edgy look. The personality bit – that’s what appeals to the teens in Korea right now, so that’s what we see, I guess.

What’s more, by this logic, Western/American pop is also all the same – nobody is dancing. They come, they sing, they move about a bit onstage. Done. And in Bollywood, they are only dancing, with someone else (the playback singer) doing the singing, and the people playing instruments virtually unknown,

What I love about K-pop are the lives/performances. With most Western artistes, I prefer the studio versions of songs. But K-pop artistes put so much effort into each live performance that the end result – the variation from the studio performance is amazing!

ya and you don’t find people raving about dancing etc either in hollywood or bollywood.. i will not understand the the idol world obsession at least

(lol.. GD and Mino look exactly the same to me.. like exactly!)

I agree. At first it seems like all the groups are the same but soon you realize that they all have their own unique style within the general style of kpop.

Idol groups might sound similar, because they are mostly doing the mainstream stuff and following the trends. However, there are also artists who have their own distinct sound. Zion. T, IU, Hyukoh (a band) are all very unique when it comes to their music.
There are also (rock) bands in K-pop (FTIsland, Day6 or CNBlue). The ones I know are all very idol-like (when it comes to hair colours and such), but what I am trying to show is that K-pop is not only about idol groups singing pop, there is a variety of genres and a number of artists producing beautiful music. (Very often even the idols themselves.)

Not sure if I answered your issues with their image… I probably haven’t, but here you are anyways. 😀

I have listened to different songs on Spotify, don´t even quite know how every artist looks, but there is R&B and D&B and hiphop. I have found a few artists that are at least unique – both their voice and style of music. But since I only cared about the song, didn´t bother to check what they look like.

I follow Dean on Instagram and he goes around the back streets of London dressed more or less like a hobo and I am cracking up at this.

Mamamoo is one of my favorites. I agree a lot of the kpop artists can´t be told apart by the looks. In music, you have to look for their collaborations with independent musicians or side projects. That´s how I have discovered something to listen to. Spotify Discover Weekly also sometimes gives me alternative artists who are not part of the mainstream “kpop wave”
