She has to obey him or die. He confesses but never asks if she has feelings for him and then she spends the whole kiss with her face scrunched up like she’s being assaulted. I just can’t ship this.
She ended up being nothing. She had no real role to play in her own story. So passive, so shallow. I kept waiting for her to be something other than “pretty” or “happy” or for her role in the text to be something other than “damsel” or “MacGuffin” but it never happened. In fact, it got worse. By the end, she was literally just sitting around waiting for someone to grab her. She couldn’t even run away properly. So useless.
It’s all the severe close ups they had too. But he’s so beautiful, I didn’t mind them at all. Seriously, I think I wrote several posts on the open thread about how smitten I was back when I watched this. I was in Italy at the time and romance of the scenery coupled with the beauty of this drama kind of solidified the other-worldliness of PBG.

To be completely shallow – even while this drama was annoying me to death and I wanted the female lead to DO something, ANYTHING – every time Park Bo Gum said “Ra On-a” I got shivers. So I get why the female lead got shivers too. He is a very sexy man. And part of that is his screen presence and intensity. It was the same in I Remember You.
I’ve started IRY, but have not been able to finish it. Just due to time constraints. I should put it back on my watch list. If I was a director, I’d pick him as my lead every time.
I love Seo In-guk, who I think is a really underrated actor. So I watched it for him and because it was wrongly sold to me as a Noona romance (it is not a noona romance). So because I wasn’t expecting anything from it, it kind of blew me away with what a good psychological thriller it was. The romance plotline was pretty anaemic and very clumsy but the other parts were excellent.
He’s a favorite of mine too. I’ve said this before, but a dream pairing for me would be these in a SAGEUK where they are the OTP, and it would be tragic and I would cry for months.
Also, watch the special that they did after the drama. Lots of BTS moments to make you really appreciate him as an actor who cares deeply about his craft.
That was what made dislike this drama. My main draw to watch this drama was Kim Yoo-jung because girl is so fantastic in this genre but her character.. ugh.

You gotta love those sageuks.
My biggest problem with that show was how young the female lead was. I never really liked her. Park Bo-gum slayed in this though.
