Are You Human Too? | Ep. 5: Without @veeee‘s live cap of the show, I would not have had a clue that Dramafever streamed a different version of show. They streamed an edited version of the closing “engagement” scene. Missing from the streamed version:
—Ji Young Hoon’s hand signal indicating that Nam Shin III must refuse Ye-Na
—Nam Shin III scanning the internet for break-up tips (including scenes from K-dramas)
—NSIII seeing So-bong’s heat signature through the door and deciding she was a good candidate because she knows the truth and is still willing to help him.

Earlier this year, in March, I asked Kocowa why they showed a episode without a “morning after” scene in Should We Kiss. They explained that the the Korea Communications Standards Commission has the final say on the final streamed version, regardless of the broadcast version. Illegal streaming sites don’t follow this rule.

I don’t get it. There’s nothing sexual here other than the K-drama kiss scenes NSIII saw online. Editing the scene so severely completely removes NSIII’s thought process leading up to his shocking kiss.

    On side note: All the girls look so shocked their eyes are practically saucers. I don’t understand the fascinating with the deer in the headlights look. It is not romantic!

      I guess its because it’s not romantic but rather manipulative of the guy just to use the girl to ward off someone else? Even in Are You Human Too?, when the guy knows that the girl will eventually understand his sudden kiss, its still shocking for the girl to have suddenly lost all sense of personal space. Also, in the drama the girl isn’t that close to the robot yet romantically or platonically.

      Agreed. See @lordcobol‘s comment on the kiss.. For once, saucer-eyes makes sense.

      Look at that screen cap with the two TV screens. See how the woman on the right has a sly, knowing look while she kisses? That is different and I wonder if that’s one of the elements the KCSC objected to.

        Oh I see. So there was a reason to her behaving that way. I didn’t even notice what KCSC objected to so I’m surprised that it may have been enough to edit the scene out.

          OMG!!!!! Why do they do that? That scene was so PG or maybe it was G rated. No reason to cut it at all. So strange. I wonder if the X-ray vision was the reason?

          @Andy, yes the deer in headlights thing is so prevalent in dramas! I feel like the natural first reaction is to squinch your eyes and push him away, not to make your eyes turn to balloons and float off.

          I think that is the difference between cartoons (manga manwha) and real shows. Cartoonists use that big eye thing to show emotion that they wouldn’t normally be able to show, but it just doesn’t transfer to the screen well.

          Sometimes it works, I think it kind of works here since she knows he is a robot and she is his bodyguard so she shouldn’t push him away in front of all the super powered execs. 🙂

            😂 not to make your eyes turn to balloons and float off A lot of the funny things in manwhas rarely translate well onto the screen like certain abruptness or sound effects which is sad but some dramas do get it right. I see why the big eyes would make sense in that AYHT scene. I haven’t watched the drama but I may binge it later if reviews still stay positive.

    I was really put out at the thought that they edited out parts of the show. But it turns out that the part missing were put on the beginning of the next episode. I dont know about the other shows mentioned. I actually use drama fever only for shows I can’t legally get elsewhere, but mainly because the translations annoy me.

    Sorry if you get this 2x I thought I sent it but then I didnt see it.
    The missing scene you mentioned I didnt realize was gone till I read the recaps I thought they may have cut it for time but the scene was at the beginning of ep 6. I dont know about the other cut shows I dont use drama fever unless I have to, mainly because of the translations seem stiff compared to others and I hate the way they try to translate oppa and unni, it makes me doubt the rest of the translation when I hear a few words I recognize, and they incorrectly translate them trying to be exact

      Yaaas! My first K-drama was last summer’s Live Up To Your Name, Dr. Heo! I knew nothing about honorifics and relationship names but was certain that Jae-ha was saying something other than Yeon-kyung’s name. Is it so hard to just put Noona? It makes more sense, right?

      It was only until I watched the fan-subbed Avengers Social Club that I finally got subs that gave me culturally aware translations—and left the honorifics/relationship names in place!

        I like volunteer subbers, alot of times they provide context for phrases that wouldn’t make sense to a westerner like me. But knowing that they cut (relatively) innocent content makes me wonder what I’ve missed. I’m a unabridged girl all the way, if I dont like it I’m perfectly capable of skipping it myself. Lol
