I’ve been enjoying my rewatch of Dalja’s Spring but I had forgotten how many side plots there are! On the one hand I think its interesting how full the world is–yes, Dalja is the center, but the world the creators built is vibrant. Its not hard to imagine them living on well after the drama is over, but on the other hand its possible that the world is a bit too full. They could have cut some of the storylines out and given us a more tightly written 16 ep drama instead of a slightly meandering 22 ep drama. But, that does mean 6 eps fewer opportunities to see LMK’s face so what do I know?

I know that I do.not.care about the love triangle between Daljas mom and Taebongs parents.
I know that outside of his interest in Dalja Mr. Perfect and his insane wife (seriously–whats going on there? Does she have multiple personalities? She puts on those sunglasses and turns into a different woman all together).
And while I care about Daljas pregnant friend—-I could stand to be updated about her life with a few throwaway lines. I don’t need episodes surrounding her. Especially when those episodes mean fewer Taebong.

However, I LOVE Sunjoo–she is a boss. And I guess Sae Do is alright. I do love his and Daljas friendship. I love how the friendship develops between Dalja, Sunjoo and Sae Do. Honestly, I like Sunjo as Daljas bestie much more than pregnant lady with the terrible life.

I guess one thing this slice of life does extremely well is reminds us that no matter whats going on in our own lives everyone else is living a life as well. The pregnant friends husband left her and fell off the face of the earth and had been gone for two weeks before Dalja noticed. Its not that Dalja was a bad friend–she legitimately was busy with her own life during the time and thats not even counting her boy drama. So, in a way, its cool to think that all of those characters are off being the stars of their own dramas even if Daljas story is the focus of this particular drama.

But, yeah….cool it, drama, on these side plots. and give me more LMK. Gimmegimmegimmegimme.

Yup yup, if they cut out the parents stuff and some of the stuff at the end it would be a better show. And maybe quickened Dal-ja’s indecision before choosing Tae-bong—I understood the main point of her dilemma, but they dragged it out too long.

Still love it to bits, though.

I have to say, though, when they do the flashback with their parents and have the present actors playing their teenaged selves? I laughed SO HARD. That was funny.

And there always needs to be more LMK.

Just give us more LMK in general. Maybe a Min-ki channel?

I would pay GOOD money for that drama people. I’m sitting here like—do I really, REALLY need a Hulu subscription? Do I need napster AND spotify?: They can go and I will gladly give that 20 or so bucks to a Min Ki channel. He can come on once a day, cross his legs, read the newspaper, scroll the online comments. Make toast. And then leave and come back tomorrow. It would be worth that 20 a month.

That is even better than I was imagining. Min-ki reading, eating toast, and maybe drinking a cup of coffee would be worth 20 bucks a month.

If they’d made Dalja now, I’m pretty sure it’d be a tighter drama, but these side plotlines and many of the things that go down are just old-drama-formula, I think!
    Still…yes. Minki, gimme!
