Mr. Sunshine episode 5 thoughts coming your way!

-> Yoo Yeon-seok continues to slay.
-> Why does Lee Byung-heon sound so emotionless when he speaks? Especially in English, his words just sound so stilted and monotone, it’s getting a little grating. I understand he’s very unfazed and hides behind a mask when it comes to his feelings, but for someone who spent the last almost ~30 years in America where he spoke English, I’d expect the color of his speech to reflect the rhythms of the English language a bit more…
-> David McInnis has won me over with his cocky ways and blue contact lenses!
-> I love that Ae-shin said that she was disappointed because all Hee-sung came with were the flowers, and then her maid said, As opposed to a gun or a sword? LMAO—Eugene and Dong-mae!
-> LOL When Hee-sung didn’t recognize his mother and tried to flirt with her. This boi is just uncontrollable trouble.
-> I loved the part when Ae-shin was having that awkward conversation with Hee-sung, saw Eugene, and got right up with the excuse that the American Legislation asked for her. Eugene’s slightly confused face was hilarious but I appreciate that he went along with it, even if it was obvious she was using him. Ae-shin looked so pleased that her escape worked! (Also, we all know Hee-sung doesn’t have a chance. As soon as he compared her to a flower, whatever slim chance he might still have had went down the drain.)
-> How is Ae-shin wearing her coat over her head supposed to keep people from realizing she’s Lady Ae-shin? Is it the hairstyle she has that is somehow recognizable? It seems stupid to me.
-> Eugene’s tiny close-lipped smiles are adorable. And make me wonder how much botox LBH has had because his face is just so dang smooth for a man of almost 50.
-> The incredible tension between Dong-mae and Ae-shin is top notch what I am HERE FOR. I was LIVING during that last scene! (Why can’t this show just be an angsty love story between the two of them? WAE?!)
-> 62 screenshots of YYS later, these episodes take me so long to watch because of pausing to look at his fatally attractive face, hair, clothes, eyes, and smirks. YYS is <3.

    All good points!

While I like Lee Byeong-heon’s overall performance, I do wish he would work on his inflections when speaking English. Side note: I also wish that some of the English dialogue were written better.

Some of the English dialogue does feel pretty clunky. David McInnis is doing what he can with the script and making it peppy and comedic, but Lee Byung-heon’s dramatic statements feel out of place, lol.

David Lee McInnis has been hit or miss with his line delivery, but he does have his charms in this drama.

I wish that the same level of dedication to the Korean dialogue (I’m not sure about the Japanese) could spent on the English dialogue. One could say that people from the United States have always refrained from being too formal (in contrast to British society at the time), but that doesn’t mean that the lines should sound contemporary. Yes, we are in the twentieth century in this drama, but I would expect the lines to more closely reflect how people would have spoken. If some line comes to mind, I will try to illustrate what I mean. LOL

    Love your thoughts!

After Money Flower and Misty, I favor Jang Hyuk and Kim Nam Joo when it comes to delivering acting with nuance. I have been spoilt to such extent I don’t think the level will go down in the future, because allowing it only means I am destroying the contentment I am expecting from drama/movie watching.

Having enjoyed his various works previously, I felt that LBH is not showing 200% of what he is capable of, feel like watching him showing a bit of complancency(?) in delivering his lines, if that even possible. I am not fully getting the emotion even after ep 5. Not fully invested in his journey, perhaps the script is restrictive for him… DM is my bias because I am a sucker for such story, I am totally invested in his emotions, self conflict…. Chilbong dejavus all the way…

I actually paid attention to YYS when I came across Mood of the Day. Chilbong is next. Then I realised that I did watched a number of his movies with those villainous roles without realising it was him in them. He became his characters. I am amazed at how he is able to adapt and that his looks changed according to the characters. To me he is like a chameleon, a hot blooded gorgeously majestic one at that ㅎㅎㅎ

YYS was adorable in Mood of the Day! I haven’t seen Reply 1994 because I know he doesn’t get the girl and it’s one of the hardest cases of second lead syndrome and I don’t know if I want to go through the heartbreak, lol. I’ve seen him as a villain in A Werewolf Boy, in The Beauty Inside, and in the drama Romantic Dr. Kim. He really is a versatile actor and I love him tremendously!

I really value YYS as an actor as well. He’s so different in each character, I forget he’s acting sometimes.

The charming Jae Hyeok *love*love* playboy notwithstanding…. hahaha

Chilbong…argh, can you imagine, I marathon that drama for 2 days straight, at mid point, I started fast forwarding to Chilbongie’s moments, crying buckets load as the sun rise, set and rise again … urgh, the worse experience (the main leads’ motivation for loving each other was just unacceptable to me, it’s just beyond reasonable thinking. I dunno, I used to live with my brother, definitely not wanting a hubby just like him. Nightmare!).

Love YYS in Dr. Kim too! That is one solid medical drama (minus the unnecessary filler plots) and that short moments in Beauty Inside is a tearjerker as well! YYS is just, jjang!

I did notice that and couldn’t remember if it had been there before. You’re very likely right. They’re trying to be as accurate as their time and budget allowed, but obviously there are liberties they’re taking and want to save themselves the hassle of being blamed for inaccuracies. Meh.

Interesting, I’ve yet to watch ep 6 but I’ll keep an eye out for that.

I’m enjoying the drama as a whole, which is a nice surprise, but of course whenever YYS is on screen I’m more awake and alert than I was before, haha!
