As a person who was in Orchestra for 7 years, it’s painful when I see obvious fake violin playing that doesn’t even match the piece being “played” #meteorgarden2018 episode 2

    IKR 😂
I also play violin, I was about to say something about this, it is so rampant on TV so I just give up. Though hua ze lei is next level of fake-play. It was awful back then in 2001, and it’s even worse now…

True they never get it right, just like blnmom mentioned below, unless they learn to play it. Though they could also give them some points to not make it too obvious, like move your hand to make it look like vibrato, or is a string change here, change strings, ect. But yeah it would be wishful thinking. He is supposed to be a music genius and I can’t take that seriously when he doesn’t even have good technique, lol.

I dont even expect to see him (and other actors on TV) to do vibrato, at least please make them hold the fingerboard and bow right. The show runner should let him choose whatever music instrument he can play, it doesn’t have to be violin.

True your right that would be wishful thinking. You are also right about holding the fingerboard and bow right, those things are the basics.

Actually that’s why I stopped watching Boys Over Flowers.

There’s no good way to fake string playing. You have to learn how to do it for real, like the kids did in Monstar.

I don’t remember much of Monstar but I do remember Kang ha neul’s cello playing looking believable and later finding out that they did learn it for the drama. Honestly I am also guilty I also almost stopped watching BOF because of that, I just couldn’t take the cringe that came along with those scenes. In the end it was something else that made me drop the Korean version and watch the Japanese one. For me the better of the two…

You should definitely check out TwinSet’s YouTube channel where they skewered Meteor Garden’s fake violin playing, and clapping, and everything else about that scene. It’s hilariously on point. (I played violin all through college.)
