Thoughts on The Guest’s first episode.

First of all, Coffe Prince reunion yeah ! Even if Kim Jae Wook and Kim Dong Woo still haven’t shared screentime. I liked Jung Eun Chae’s performance in Return, so it’s good to see how she will do as a cop.

The opening was nice. Explaining what “Sohn/the Guest” is and seeing how horrible this spirit is helped getting easily into the story. The shaman practices were wonderfully shot, colors, sounds, acting were perfect and enchanting. Well, until death happened. All of possessions and death/murdering scenes were really good. As expected of ocn, it has lots of blood. The atmosphere just before someone became a victim of the spirit was thrilling. Nice job for the young priest house’s and Hwa Pyung’s household sequence ! It was beautifully creepy.
I didn’t expect the main trio to be connected during childhood and in such a twisted way. I thought it was not necessary but it will bring more complexity to their future teamwork. So good job to the writer for laying this background for the trio AND the spirit. There will be lots of personal conflicts, especially on Hwa Pyung and Yoon’s side. Kil Young doesn’t believe in paranormal phenomons and I can already see her disbelief discovering what really happened to her mother. I can’t wait for the three of them to get together.

The case that is bringing Kil Young and Hwa Pyung (for now) in present days was an interesting one. My question is, how will Kil Young explain that the culprit was possessed by a spirit and killed his wife and boss ?

I didn’t quite understand how “the Guest” possessed the young priest. Young Hwa Pyung whispered to his ears and that’s how he was possessed ? And where did the spirit go after all these years ? Killing and possessing people, yes. But how does it choose its victims ? Does it only target random weak people ? And how can the trio stop it ? It seems like it has been living forever. Also, I hope we’re getting our trio chasing after other spirits or even fake spirits for other cases beside the main plot.

When the possessed Hwa-pyung whispered into the young priest’s ear, I got this thought in my head that the possession was contagious, like the flu. I do not think that that is how the possession actually works, but I just got that feeling. I do think that the spirit preys on human weakness and dark thoughts (resentment, etc.), but I hope that we get a better explanation of how things work. ‘Cause if it were that simple, then everyone is a potential host for this spirit.

I thought of it like passing like a sickness too but like you said possession doesn’t happen this way. We clearly need more details about the spirit, the possession and how it chooses its preys like you said.
For example, why didn’t the spirit possess Dad or Grandpa ? Was it because they were strong in a way ? Dad had strong belief in the dead shaman’s words and Grandpa just belived in Hwa Pyung ? The senior priest (Ahn Nae Sang) obviously has strong belief and the young one didn’t have enough. Also, did the spirit went back to the East Sea after this or directly jumped on another victim ? So many questions..

Seems like HP is following the priest to different cities. Presumably, by tracking similar cases which are stuck on his wall. Maybe the spirit continued his killing spree by possessing the same guy.

The spirit possessed the man in wheelchair so we follow your reasoning it means it possesses the priest and some else. Maybe it just jumped from the priest to a random person and then come back to the priest.

      I don’t know. I use alternative sites because I don’t have a Netflix account.
