The age range is pretty big! You could be anywhere from 22 to 31 right now. Either way, though, I think that’s about the age I expected from your posts on this website.

Kind of unrelated and not really specific to BTS, but I personally have very mixed feelings about idols renewing contracts. I only really follow one group (although I follow them avidly!) and I’m torn between wanting them to stay together and letting them have their lives back. Being an idol is great professionally if the group is popular, but it’s also hellish personally (no public romantic relationships, constant dissembling in order to propitiate demanding fans, crazy work schedules, etc.). I sometimes think it would be better if my boys just became ‘regular’ celebrities so that the constraints they face could be loosened. On the other hand, sometimes I also think they could transcend the label ‘idol’ if they stayed together into their 30s and become path-breakers (I only know one group – Super Junior – that has sort of done this though).

What do you guys think? Do you guys also have mixed feelings about BTS or any of your other faves re-signing and continuing to be idols?

I want them to mature as idols, humans and musicians. They will eventually live separately, have relationships, maybe a family. It’s unrealistic to think otherwise. And none of that necessarily prevents them from being “idols” still – look at Shinhwa for example. It’s not mutually exclusive. And hell, do they even need to be labeled idols? Or even labeled at all?

My fear with Shinhwa, though, is that they still seem to be operating in the mold of ‘idol’, regardless of whether they call themselves idols. As far as I know, none of them are married or have public relationships for example.

I know it’s not mutually exclusive, but there are distressingly few examples of groups that start off as idols and survived into maturity and were able to grow at the same time. That’s my main fear. Between continuing as a group and growing as artists and humans, I personally would hope for the latter, although not without mixed feelings.

Ummm personally, i think 7 years is a very long time. A contract renewal indicates the idol’s & company’s intention to stick together but it may not work out that way. And I don’t think anything more about it -particularly when it’s idols in their 20s and as successful as BTS are. I’m just assuming they are competent enough to know what’s best for them.

It’s true however that idol life has many constraints. I guess it’s a question of balance between what the artist wants more.

Omg I’ll be around the same age too 😳 My mind gets blown every time a fan goes I’ll be 24 when their next contract renewal is up and then I feel super old 👵🏻 Lol
