Fox Bride Star Finale
I… Uh… O… K… then.

Thanks to the Beanie wall I dropped my expectations right down for this episode so my desire to throw something at the screen probably could’ve been worse.

A few things:
1) @gadis I can’t believe I was right and they did a time jump.

2) It is quite frustrating and disappointing for a show that has for most of its run shown characters who face up to their insecurities and struggles and learn from their mistakes over time, to then go and write the main conflict of the show (that is, SY and his disability) into a… “I will never accept my disability or learn to love myself despite my flaws, even though my co-star’s writing was set up well to accommodate that. Instead I will push her away because I don’t want her to have the burden of caring for me whilst disabled”. I… don’t even think I have to explain where the problem lies with that. There are slugs on Mars that can hear my sighs.

3) @sincerelytod, could you do me a favour and run over the trope called “time jumps” for me? Like honestly I like you better than them. And that’s… saying something.
The problem with time jumps is that the story breaks down in really tiny albeit annoying ways because of them.
For example, we left our Security Couple in 2018 with the line “why don’t you get to know me betteR” WHICH HONESTLY I WOULD’VE ACCEPTED. But then a year later… they’re still apparently not official and still on the same team? Aisssh.

4) This was a crack drama for me and still kept me hooked well enough till about episode 14, and I was able to finish it without too much struggle. Disappointing, but honestly what’s freaking new. Can I just have one show that ends well already please…

5)@justme did a splendid job of rewriting the last episode before I could, but I thought I’d give you mine anyway.

I had two options. The first option was that when he shows her the real him the first time itโ€™s actually in the wheelchair. And then it progresses from there.

The second option is that after that brilliant talk about how Yo Reum herself is flawed and that that’s ok and that she loves him anyway (I’m paraphrasing), his condition gets worse but at this point he’s still stubborn and won’t stop wearing them because he’s addicted. However he does actually listen to her a little bit and her arguments are slightly more successful. Then one day he collapses at work (no gangs or thugs or silliness) and he is hospitalized at home. Yo Reum visits him every day to take care of him. At first he is ashamed, but after a while lets her help. Then one afternoon, with the golden sunset streaming into his house (rolls eyes at self), he finally has made it into the wheelchair for the first time since collapsing, and is sitting there staring out the window and Yo Reum comes in and he like breaks down in front of her and al alala ala she says she loves him anyway, no matter what, exactly like this and WHEELCHAIR KISS.
That can happen idk near enough to the end of the show so that there is only like the promotions and them learning to work together WITH his disability left for the last half hr so that Tie It All Up In A Bow Shenanigans doesnโ€™t drag on too long.
Idk whether the cyborg stuff comes back. I’m inclined to think it shouldn’t. But I would also almost leave it open, and perhaps have an end note about the Professorโ€™s studies and stuff and how that even came about.
Or better yet have that prior when SY collapses and almost dies of the infection caused by his arm. Ahem.

Security Couple- At first I was like โ€œDae Gi should get hurt! And then Yoo Jung can realise what a great guy he is!โ€ and then I was like uhm, no, letโ€™s not do that, because everyone does that and thatโ€™s stupid.
I was kind of happy with the drunk mini confession and Dae Gi melting on the spot tbh. Perhaps tweak it a little bit so that they have more screen time to build up to that.
Or you know whatโ€ฆ Screw it. After pulling an all-nighter of self-reflection after Dae Giโ€™s confession, Yoo Jung turns up on his doorstep before work in the morning and confesses her undying love and affection to him and then they kiss. THE END.

โ€ฆ

I think after analysing HMS so much all I can do is spoof this one. Crack dramas for me always watch like theyโ€™re in a different universe anyway.

“There are slugs on Mars that can hear my sighs.” pretty much sums it up for me.
But this must be true because I just read that a NASA craft landed on Mars. So they really must be listening.
Oh and @Sicarius – I liked your ending MUCH better than what we got!

    There are slugs on Mars??

While I’m disappointed I can’t join the meltdown on the fan wall, I think one ChinguTantrumMode per week is enough. And I can now cross this one off my watch list along with Beauty Inside and The Third Charm.

I don’t know. But if they are they can hear me.

Heh. Yeah I’m so tired this piece of drivel was all I could manage pfft

I never understood people talking about drama slumps and burnout but after this week I actually feel dispirited on a fundamental level. Like I don’t want to watch anything at all. The clusterfuck of Happy to Die has ruined me. This is why we can’t have nice things.
I’m super glad I didn’t also get a crappy ending to a drama I loved as well.

Well, let’s hope that Happy to Die continues to make us all laugh…
Gawd knows we all need it now as we head towards the shortest day of the year.
But on the other hand – slugs on Mars? hell yeah!!! Now I’m going to start paying attention to NASA and see if they mention slugs!

I thankfully have enough older untouched not watched good dramas to keep me going even if lives are dry.
More like real lyfe has burnt me out and sub par dramas aren’t helping lol.

          @stpauligurl heh it’s my summer… lol

Ah @sicarius – I know what you mean by RL getting in the way. I’m not sure if I want to start any of the new dramas coming this week. But I have to watch at least ONE drama a day – that is what addiction does.
Last weekend I decided to try Misaeng and absolutely LOVE it!
Yesterday at work it was all I could talk about. My co-workers just roll their eyes – but really that show makes me appreciate my own job as a contractor all that much more.
Am at episode 17 and already dreading it ending. Have you seen it yet? It’s on Viki and Netflix – but I like the comments on Viki even though they are old.

Sigh – for me this is the epitome of what a great drama can be. This one and My Ahjussi, Just Between Lovers, Life on Mars and Mother.

So in your summer is Dec 21 still the shortest day of the year or is that June 1st for you? This is when I wait anxiously for that day because then we get more light each day – which means the gardening season is closer.

            @stpauligurl
Yeah I think I prefer picking an older drama I haven’t watched and then jus watching an episode a day, and then I consistently have something to watch and can latch on to the story more.
Mmm haven’t seen Misaeng (and don’t use Viki or Netflix lol) but it’s on my list and has been for a while.

No Dec 21 is our longest day, our summer solstice hahaha I live in New Zealand so just flip everything you’re used to and that’s us. Spring in September, Autumn in April, Winter in July, Summer at Christmas ^-^
Except we did get snow the other week. But that’s because our weather systems are weird hahaha

My problem with that plan @sicarius is that I then have all the episodes available and so don’t watch one or two a day but end up bingeing. It can end badly.

I’m also in summer so will generally watch less shows anyway. I watch far more during winter.

@leetennant ahahahahahaha Guess you better stick to lives? lol
Surprisingly I binge far less these days. Not sure why.

Winter is depressing. Needs things to get you through. Id est, kdramas.

I have to confess that I initially decided to watch this drama exactly because of Soo-yeon and his disability issues. I want to watch another kdrama dealing with that topic after Life did it quite well. And then this ending happened. I’m still able to defend this show until eps 14, but I really have no words left for this stupidity. Sigh… At least it gave me another bean to give to my fave shows this year.
Thank for writing this rant, sicarius.

Does Life end well? It was on my to watch list but I’m not sure.
I also could defend it till 14 as well haha but not much after that lol.
No worries man. I always like our talks!

Life ends well, open ended but with a hint of hopeful future. And the writer treats Sun-woo, the character who uses wheelchair in that drama, thoughtfully and respectfully. I have such high hopes for Fox Bride Star, but well, it wasn’t meant to be.

Hmmm I’ll keep it on my list then.

@gadis is right: wheelchair-wise, LIFE really makes an EXCELLENT point on its brilliant use of a character. Not sure why FBS decided to be so lame as to give us that lukewarm BS of an ending… Like most Beanies, I was seriously rooting for him learning how to live HAPPILY in his wheelchair. but no. instead we got served a sh*tty timeskip…

ah and LIFE is also worth watching because of Cho Seung-Woo. Cho Seung-Woo is BAE ๐Ÿ™‚

I like your ending better than what we got. :((((((((( I just wish writers would read dramabeans sometimes, ya know?

I JUST WANTED HIM TO BE HAPPY IN THE WHEELCHAIR.
