I may have turned my mom into a kpop fan
My mom got in my car and I had my music off (it was GOT7’s latest album and there’s a lot of songs on there that I know she wouldn’t like so instead of trying to skip songs and drive, I just turned it off.) My mom wanted to listen to something though and suggested listening to TheEastLight which is what I always used to listen to in the car with her. I told her that I’m still not listening to their music though because it still hurts too much knowing that they were abused by their company and that their abuser wrote their songs. She said that if I’m not going to listen to it anymore, she wanted it so she could listen to it in her car 😄

    Is it weird that I don’t want to listen to their music anymore? Both my parents seem to think I’m crazy. They say since I’ve already bought the album, it’s not like it will hurt TEL or help their company if I listen to it. And I understand that but also I can’t imagine listening to their music happily like I did before knowing how much they suffered. It’s sad because I really liked their music. I thought they were super talented and their songs were cute and catchy. I miss listening to it but their music wouldn’t make me happy like it did before. Instead it would just remind me of how much they went through all while smiling so brightly that I never suspected a thing 😭

      I think it’s not weird at all, @raonah. We all have different ways of coping with things and it’s perfectly normal and acceptable that you’re not comfortable listening to their music anymore.

      Just take some time and you’ll see. Don’t pressure yourself into anything. Maybe in time you’ll be able to listen to their music again, even if it will never again be the same happy songs to you. Maybe not, but even that’s ok. I think as long as their music did give you joy and happiness once, it’s enough for TEL.

      And I know the situation is not comparable, but I still skip some E’Dawn’s songs, just because it hurts to listen to them. So take your time. *hugs*
      *I hope I’m making sense here*

        Thanks. It baffled me that my parents didn’t seem to understand my perspective and I’m glad that you see my point of view. *hugs*

        Since it’s in your name, I’ve got to ask… How’d you like EXO’s comeback? Did you survive? 🙈

          *still haven’t changed my handle since the Tempo comeback lol*

          I love the MV. (One of my top EXO MVs!) I didn’t love the song – Love Shot – at first listen (unlike Tempo which I adored from the very beginning), but after listening to it for a few times, I love it. It’s addictive. And the choreo killed me, yes. And their outfits… 🙈 They didn’t have to, you know? (One of my main biases is Kai now. I stood no chance this comeback…)

          The sad thing is, the promotions are reportedly over. Which is utterly ridiculous. (I need more stages! 🙈) But hey, it’s SM. *sigh* At least we’re getting some proper variety this time (Knowing Bros!).
          *and I’m rambling sorry but you did ask so here you are*

          And how did you like “Miracle”? And they have a new Japanese song, I think? (I really liked Miracle! It’s a great song and they all sound SO good!)

            I think everyone’s bias must be Kai now! How could anyone resist? 😍😍 It was a repackage album wasn’t it? So isn’t that part of why the promotions were so short?
            GOT7’s Miracle was also a repackage so they just promoted for a week too. Miracle was so pretty and the other songs on the album were so good. I’m so happy to finally have a studio version of my favorite GOT7 song, 1:31 AM 💚
            Their Japanese song just came out today! The song is so different from their other Japanese comebacks. It’s more of a pop/ballad song. The MV is really cool too

            @raonah
            I’ve actually claimed for the longest time that Kai could never be my bias. 🙈 (Joke’s on me.)
            It was a repackage, but this time even the Tempo promotions were only two weeks long. *sigh* Groups usually get four weeks. And Power (the repackage last year) was promoted three weeks for sure.
            But whatever, I won’t complain anymore. Sorry! (Just the fandom mood I guess…)

            Aw, I do know 1:31 AM! I’m so happy they’ve decided to release a studio version.
            I personally think their previous Japanese songs were not really their style, so I’m happy they finally get to release Japanese music that’s more like them! And I really like the song! (And they look good. As always.)

      Congratulations on bringing your mum into the fold! 😊

      In part I think its the fact that unless one follows kpop/a kpop group, it’s difficult to understand how deeply involved us fans are with our groups. It’s all in our hard ofc (^_^) but we love them dearly right? So of course it hurts you to think of what went on behind that music they created, but also I can see why your parents may not understand.

        I suppose that’s part of the difference. My mom mostly just likes them for their music and fun performances but she wasn’t invested in them as people. She still doesn’t even know their names. I cared/care about them a lot and was rooting for them to achieve all their dreams. It hurts to know what they went through and to see their dreams come crashing down. I hope they’re doing better now. Especially Seunghyun. It seems like he was traumatized the most by what happened.

        Is your computer fixed or are you using your phone today?

          I’m sorry to ask since it’s a sensitive issue, but do they have any plans to continue doing music, as a group or separately? I haven’t really heard anything about them after the press conference… Sorry to bring this up, I’m just curious.

            No problem. I’m curious too. I haven’t really heard anything official but my impression is that Seunghyun, the bassist, is probably done with performing. Seokcheol, the drummer and SH’s hyung, had said at one point that he would continue being a drummer/DJ. Eunsung and Sagang have both posted on Instagram a few times. So I take that as a sign that they want to continue with music and have the support of their fans. I don’t think Junwook or Woojin have posted anything but I’m hoping they’ll continue as well.
            I saw this on twitter a few days ago
            https://mobile.twitter.com/theeastlightph/status/1073783682777804800 Eunsung is going to be featured in this guy’s song. I was really excited at first but then I was checking out the guy and he only has 400 Instagram followers. Eunsung has 66,000 and he’s not even that well known so basically this other guy is not famous at all. It looks like he’s a friend of SeokCheol. I’m still happy about it though because at least Eunsung will get to sing again and maybe it will lead to better things for him/TEL.

            Thank you, @raonah!
            It’s sad this experience (if I can say it that way) might discourage them from performing. But I guess they need to cope with what they’ve been through in a way that’s best for them.

            Well, at least the teaser picture looks nice… I wish him all the best and hopefully this song will help make things better in some ways.

            Thanks @estee
            I agree. As much as I would like to see all of them continue with music, they need to do what’s best for them.

          Yes. Especially Seunghyun. ๐Ÿ™ They were simply too young. This happens to older people too but they particularly are just so young.

          Re my laptop. 😳 Umm..Nope. haha I’m on my phone now. ;_;
