Yeah. Came to Florida and been birding the last 3 days!! Heading to a beach for a few more days so my poor husband can get a break from all this early morning hikes :))
Yes. Warmth is wonderful. I dread going back to the 20s/30s weather
Ooooh birding in Florida must be great. What have you seen so far? I have a co-worker that travels all over to see birds. I just look from my back porch and on my walks.
But manatees – that is COOL.
Oh, I’m so jealous! All we see here are juncos, chickadees, house sparrows, robins, red-tailed hawks, woodpeckers, and bald-headed eagles.
Oh, and we still get hummingbirds this time of year.
The one bird I miss the most from MN are the Cardinals. I loved seeing them in the trees and listening to their call.
LOVE bird watching.
@stpauligurl winter is a good time to look for wintering ducks and snowy owls! I enjoy winter birding up north for ruddy ducks, shovelers, ring necked duck, long tailed etc. this year I plan to go look for the snowy owl :))
Oh a Snowy Owl. I’ve never seen an owl in the wild. But I do hear them in the trees in my neighborhood on summer evenings.
Every day I look to see and hear the geese fly overhead in the morning or evening. It seems to make my day complete if I at least hear them.
You are inspiring me to learn more about the birds in my area and maybe go out to a refuge south of town with my bird book and camera.
Snowy owls might not be too challenging to find @stpauligurl. I know there are are places along the WA coast they hang out during the winter. I haven’t looked to see if they do the same along the northern OR coast.
Thanks @ndlessjoie
Really, any kind of owl in the wild would be cool for me. Now I’m going to look up and see if there are many in Oregon.
I hear there is a place near my house where Bald Eagles all go to nest. Apparently, it’s a large group of trees along a river and they are full of nests.
It’s been raining a lot but I may take a drive today.

Lot of nesting wading birds in winter. Wood storks, roseate spoonbills, stilts, yellowlegs, ibis, pelicans, snail kites to name a few.

@stpauligurl I believe in Oregon you can see Tundra swans in winter. It does look like there is quite a variety up there!
