Another poll, Beanies: Which of these romantic kdrama clichés do you dislike the most?
A) Return of the ex/first love
B) Disapproving parents meddling in the relationship
C) Love triangle/square/pentagon
D) Noble idiocy
For me it’s D. I think most parents are meddling by nature. Love triangles can sometimes be fun. Return of the ex/first love can sometimes be a helpful push to the OST.
The only trope I really hate is when someone is made to “take responsibility” for a failure or mistake that wasn’t their fault. Quitting a job or letting go of a loved one or doing something they hate… It is just so irrational and frustrating. And I actually don’t know if it is a cultural thing or just made-up drama-creating.
Noble idiocy is def the worse. Idk, but it triggers me the worse. The moment I see it, my hand goes on the forward button. noble idiocy = one party in the couple sacrifices him/herself for the benefit of the couple without discussing it with the other party (WTF).
Probably option B. I remember thinking it odd how shows I watched when I was a kid/teenager had no parents and the child/young adult just seemed to be able to do whatever they wanted. Now I dread seeing a parent figure sometimes in K-dramas.
TIME JUMPS.
SORRY THAT’S NOT ON THE LIST BUT IT NEEDS TO BE. Oh wait it’s not romantic. Sorry MOA is still fresh.
Probably all of those except A. Like Just all of them.
in order of “Will hurt my eyes rolling them to the back of my skull” to “I will stop watching the show”:
1) Disapproving parents
2) Love Geometry other than 1 straight line, ESPECIALLY when the main guy is a total jack*ss who mistreats the main girl but the Writer insists on forcing the relationship forward.
3) Return of the Mac – the ex, I mean
4) Noble Idiocy aka when simple proper communication evades our couple and teleports the Viewer to the dreaded “1 year later” moment.

Also, I’m curious: what do you consider to be noble idiocy?

Probably doing something that affects both their lives without discussing it with the other person.

Actually none, I just hate when they are badly written and don’t match with the character’s behavior.

I need E) All of the Above
because, in the right context, all of these are just as eye-rolling as the other.
