Just finished a very intense episode of My Strange Hero and it makes me think of why I watch Korean dramas.
They seem to constantly tell a story of how we are such broken human beings and in need of healing. Usually the more severe the brokenness, the greater the love that heals. I’m looking at you “Clean with Passion.… “ The writers attempt to tell the lives of people living in South Korea amidst the struggle and pressure to succeed – as adults and as children. And in 16-24 episodes at that. We see their immense pain from bad parenting to poor circumstances – and yet those who are strong persevere and the bad get punished. I need to see that somewhere in my life if not in dramas. Certainly it doesn’t happen in real life.
I am learning about another culture and all the nuances in their language, food, customs around honoring those around them (which is seriously lacking in the US [IMHO]).
Also I get to see such beautiful people and covet their clothes – especially the coats.
I’ve been learning about Korean history as I watch the dramas in hope that some day I can talk to my sons about their heritage and birth family history. Who knows? Maybe one of my sons descended from the line of a good emperor?
Tonight I realized that we all need love and affection and affirmation, no matter where we are born or what country we live in.
We need to matter.

My strange hero episode tonight simply broke my heart seeing Se-ho being so horribly treated by his mother. It just hurt. Now I need some BTS of that scene so I can be reminded that the actress is not that way. WOW – what powerful writing.

Mostly I like the moments of simply silliness amidst the serious pain our leads go through.

And the most amazing thing is that the actors are all so young!
Thank you to the SK TV industry for giving us such good shows to make us think and feel.
Kam sami dah!

She is an awful mom. How can she say such horrible things to her own son?!? 😭😭😭 I want BokSu’s mom to adopt SeHo (and ChaeMin because his mom is awful too)

I just try to remember that she was an awesome mom in Sassy Go Go. Though I really love this actress, and she does both villainous and sweet mom roles so well.
