Every time I see an historical drama I can’t help but think how uncomfortable it must have been to have worn those elaborate hair styles/adornments.

cdrama also has some ridiculous hairpieces. i vaguely remember c-actress or k-drama actress mention how their head and shoulder will be hurting because of the hairpiece.

Fun thing with c-historical-drama hair is that they seems to have trend style. Like if you watch the oldschool drama such as huanzhu gege, they seems to love to put LOTS of braids on top of their heads, intricated by more adornments. While nowadays historical drama heroine, despite came from the similar era, tends to have rather simple hair style, literally no braid on top of their head (some may still has braids, but noone pilling them anymore) and a piece or two of adornments.

Hairstyles, clothing (notnso much the design, but more like the colour and graphics), and embellishments definitely are influenced by the era in ancient China 🙂 Societal status also has an influence
