I made the mistake of reading comments about [my beautiful and amazing] Son Soo Jeong in the earlier episodes of My Strange Hero and quickly noped out. Why do people refuse to recognize a queen? It’s the same poisonous energy that makes me turn off Viki comments on their videos lol. Please give female leads the space, time, and air to grow that you give male leads in 2019 (and every year)!

Anyway, me at Son Soo Jeong every episode: You’re doing amazing, sweetie!

Yes, this. I should finally write that essay on why we tolerate unlikeable male leads and allow them redemption arcs but don’t give women the same chance. I love that we’re getting so many flawed and unlikable female leads in dramaland lately. It’s such a breath of fresh air (also, Son Soo Jeong is frigging awesome).

I’d like to think people just expect the male lead to grow/change since dramas are often male-lead centered, but if I’m being honest it’s probably because the male lead is often someone uber popular that people just root for by default. We don’t really get that kind of devotion for the ladies unless it’s someone who managed to amass a horde of fans early on like Park Shin Hye. I think many of the older women in Dramaland get that kind of support, but I’d love to see much more for our ladies in the 20-something age range as I think many of them are great and bring a lot to their characters. Jo Boa is/has been wonderful and it’s been such a pleasure watching this drama with her in it.

Yes, the main complain is always that FL is mean to ML. Which is just childish and ridiculous.

Lol right?? She is always the WORST when she isn’t paying the guy any attention. Maybe she just has things to do (and often-times she does)!

Thank you! Yes yes yes to all this! She’s one of my favorite leads of late and I never understood the hate. All her actions are from rational places, even if they’re not the choices others would make. People are never ok with a female lead being selfish, but so many male leads are and it’s no big deal. It’s a horrible double standard.

One thing I especially loved about Soo-jeong was that she was a perfect example of how selfishness can be used as a way to protect oneself in a non-malicious way. What she did was wrong, no doubt, but she did it to protect herself. She never purposefully acted to harm others even if she knew her actions could be harmful. There’s nothing wrong with that. She owns up to her mistakes and more than makes up for them. Of all the characters in the drama, she has the most growth and is the most complex. I love her.

Yesss, mistakes she mad at eighteen! She was a young girl with a friend/crush who finally understood her. Those teenage betrayals of trust are brutal and I understood her hurt even if it was born from misunderstanding, manipulation, and lies. She never once blamed Bok Soo and even admitted later on that she was selfish and she apologized genuinely and sincerely with both words and action. She is great. Bok Soo had good reason to be obsessed for nine years because I sure as hell would be too.
