Watching IU rise above and getting past this when she does is going to be so satisfying to read in the news :DDDDDD

People really love to hate what she does with her money!

I’m curious to know what they thought she was donating for, if it was ‘suspicious’. Did they think she was laundering money through ChildFund? Was she waiting for this humungous fire so that she could have the opportunity? Lol

I think they mean to say that she’s making useless donations to an organization they don’t see to be really helping anyone in the situation—because there have been little to no reports about how the fire is having an effect on children—but IU chose to donate to an organization who’s main goal is to help children

Korean netizens are scary ridiculous. Just because they don’t ‘see’ what the donation is for – it’s suspicious. Childfund is right – the distrust will negatively affect the culture of giving.
Yoo Jae Suk got criticised for not giving enough! I mean how ridiculous is that! How many of those who criticised gave as much as he did I wonder.

A large part of it, I believe, is a cultural thing— it’s ironic, because many East Asian cultures, including Korean culture, is built on family, communities, people as a group, and not on individualism, yet, the modern world and the people who inhabit this world and who make up the norms and such of this world and society turn everyone individualistic and everything into a very individualistic place to be. Therefore, when it comes to something like donations of money, it’s become a thing where it’s not even for the cause anymore and if a donation is being given, people are skeptical and cannot and will not believe that the donation is something given simply out of the kindness of someone’s heart. This is why IU’s donations have been made into something ‘suspicious’, this is why people think that Yoo Jae Suk’s donation amount is ‘not enough’, that is why people don’t understand the logic as to why Sean of Jinusean goes out and delivers briquettes every winter or chooses to train and run races but donates all of his winnings, or how it was so difficult for people to wrap around their head that ALL profits from “Coffee Friends” was willingly donated 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ Charity, as sad as it sounds, is still a very foreign concept in Korean society ☹️

Well said. These are the same people who do not realise that people like IU, Yoo Jae Suk and Sean donate to more than 1 cause. Not just the 1 that happens to be highlighted.
