ERRAND BOY CAT POST NO. 2

I was on maternity leave. Our days went looking after my new baby, feeding and grooming Pusku (cat no.1), watching kdrama’s and going for walks in the park.

My friends in high school used to call me a cat magnet so it wasn’t unusual when a beautiful neighbourhood older cat would come and rub against my legs during our outings. After a few days he started following us home. Now my mother taught me to always serve snacks to our guests so I offered him some kibbles. My heart sank when I realised how he was devouring his food. Does his family not feed him? Looking closer I realised his hind leg was broken – hidden by his excessive fur. I rang RSPCA (animal rescue) immediately.

The older gentleman was 10 plus years old and needed surgery immediately to mend his bones. I never swiped my credit card faster than that moment.

Couple of weeks later I rang the shelter to find out how he was doing! I heard the happy news that he was being adopted the next day! Given it was a weekend I begged my husband to go and meet him and wish him good luck.

While saying hello at the shelter, a tiny squeak near my left shoulder made me turn around. It was the tiniest black kitten with bits of fur missing from his body. He chirped pitifully at me as I requested to hold him. Resting against my collar bone I was stunned by the force of the loud purring coming off from his little body. Apparently he was the weakest in his litter and was in need of cuddles.

I looked at my husband with pleading eyes as he looked at out sleeping baby in the pram. I did a quick mental calculation – I have a 10 month old baby, a 3 year old cat, a household to manage and my kdrama’s. Yes! I can do this!

On our way home we named our tiny purr machine Nismo – the turbo car engine. From the moment we meet him he lavished us with love and affection. He LOVED his human brother so much that he basically became his shadow. He respected Pusku and gave her her space. He became our puppy.

Nismo is now 4 years old. Larger than an average cat, he is lean and muscled. He loves his family to bits and is the biggest strongest gentle giant you have ever met. He truly is a good good boy.

Is Nismo playing with your son or is he the cow pasture?

    Adorable.

Both! Haha! They have a variety of regular plays. My most favourite one is when my son cooks in his play kitchen and lets nismo fake taste his fake creations. Nismo waits dutifully and sniffs each plate of crap food 😆

I had one just like this. He was the friendliest cat ever (though he was a klutz, knocked everything off everywhere) (and liked chewing on our hair) and was great with kids. I miss him.

Hehe. Nismo is not a klutz but he is bit of a scaredy cat. You don’t have a doorbell? No problem! As soon as you see Nismo bounding up the stairs in a hurry, you know there is someone at the front door 😄

How much does Nismo weigh? He looks huge! I was auntie to a friend’s 20-pound sleek black panther who was not fat, just big and muscular. She would chase the resident Himalayan fashion plate up and down the stairs and over the sofa and chairs. The two of them sounded like a thundering herd of elephants.

Oh yes he is lean and muscled and very tall. Last time we checked he tipped the scales at 12 kilos. And yes! The thundering herd of elephants! My god! Nismo and Pusku running around the house sounds exactly like that!

Holy moly! Nearly 26.5 pounds of Nismo! He’s about the size of a North American bobcat.

Ms. T had long legs and a long torso. I used to call her and her stampede mate “The Flying Zucchinis” when they flew through the air with the greatest of ease. Alas, it was the landings that played havoc with her joints in later years. She ended up with bad arthritis.

Fashion plate Kumar the Himalayan was quite a character. His front porch light flickered a bit, but he had a sweet temperament. He picked his own name (by responding to a litany of baby names my friend read to him). It means “prince,” and that was exactly what he thought of himself. He was an immaculate groomer, and didn’t really like to be petted. He’d give you a look as if to say, “Unhand me, varlet! You’re messing up my hair.”

LOL at the flying zucchini’s! They both sound lovely. My kitties are indoor cats. Australia has such a wide variety of wildlife that I feel it is criminal to have these furry killing machines outside. I installed a bird feeder/bath in the garden – magpies, parrots, galas, cockatoos visit regularly. The cats have their beds on the either side of the glass door and they spend most of their waking hours there.

T and Kumar were both indoor cats. New Jersey is deer tick and Lyme disease country, so it would have been nuts to have indoor-outdoor cats here. Plus we have bears, coyotes and raccoons in the woods. And redtail hawks, peregrine falcons, and bald eagles swooping down from the sky. And wild turkeys and Canada geese, who can be aggressive. Plus insane drivers. All good reasons to live indoors. 😉

What a beauty. It’s such a joy when you have family like Nismo.

The last pic! From that angle, Nismo looks super huge! 😆

Nismo sounds delightful ☺️. Both of you are lucky to have each other 🥰

He is! When my son was 3 they basically stood at the same height. My giant kitten ❤️

I love cats that love boys. We have several in our neighborhood.

My cats are indoor cats. The neighbourhood cats gather around and visit them for a session of war of the vocal cords 😂
