This confrontation and their respective contemplation afterwards is everything I wanted and more.

Do-han looked like someone who didn’t know what to feel and how to react after he poured out one of his deepest secret to the whole nation. I don’t think I’ve wanted a character to simply break down right then and there as much as I did in this scene. I swear, anything is infinitely better than this numbness I can clearly see in his expression.

My heart went out to Suji this hour. Compassion never hurt this much. She is one of the most empathetic person in this drama. Someone who always fiercely protected her family and friends, who never hesitated to help, to understand, and to give tough love. It was a great inner conflict how she hate what Do-han did as much as she hate the fact that she can perfectly understand the motivation behind it.

It’s brilliant isn’t it? Most shows would have made him a straight up villain at this point.

I have to admit that I’m a bit disappointed with the way the writer handled the villains in this drama. It’s too black-and-white to my taste. But then again, they already gave us one of the best antihero character in k-dramaland, so I guess I have to cut them some slack.

The villains have potential but they’re not developed as much as the anti heroes and heroes. Si Wan would be fascinating to know more about… Alas his development is rather cut short. There is definitely strong implications of daddy issues tho.

Yep, I was hoping for a more thorough exploration for Si-wan’s character. But everything he did seemed to boil down into a simple ‘the kid is born evil’ which didn’t make him into an exceptionally fascinating villain.

I think there was definitely more to him, like knowing his father and his home issues I think (I wrote more about it in the essay but from memory) to me I read it as he acted out to try and get his father’s attention and then kept doing it.I thought the kid acted it very well though, I just wish we got a bit more than the stuff tagged on the end.
His father though… Like even less motivation and development there.

The fact that she knows she understands him and therefore can’t properly hate him just makes this like ten times better. Like the heroine gets the anti hero, and doesn’t just rant and rave at him. Ah so juicy.
