Oh goodness, someone else that noticed. She’s Crystal Liu/Liu Yifei. To my family, she is China’s Kim Tae Hee / Suzy. In the things we’ve seen her in, her beauty is ethereal but her acting could be much better. Mulan is a hard pass for us.
I hear you but I love the ensemble veterans Jet Li, Donnie Yen, Gong Li, Tzi Ma,Rosalind Chao etc are dang solid.
I think it’ll be interesting since it’s based more on the legend than the Disney version of Mulan. I wish they’d included a Chinese writer. I don’t trust the western interpretations of other cultures.
I actually wished they had gone full on Disney with the unforgettable songs, Shang, Mushu, and everything. For accuracy we had the version with Vicki Zhao and them trying to go that route they’ll never beat it.
Apparently, this Disney version will actually include INSTRUMENTAL versions of the songs from the original animated version 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ And Mushu is being replaced by a phoenix
I was totally waiting for a glimpse of Li Shang but didn’t see any. Heard there wasn’t even gonna be a Shang.. I hope that was fake news ‘cos I really loved his character in the cartoon
From what I read, Shang is not part of this MULAN version. Donnie Yen’s character is the commander and Mulan’s mentor. Her rival turns love interest is one of the recruits.

Aww, I would have loved to see the live version Shang.
Guess this will be her personal journey to female bad-assery, sans any romance at all. Still good though ‘cos I love her.
Although, I will need to keep reminding myself to treat this as completely separate from the animation Mulan so I don’t keep comparing.
