Hotel del luna Ep 1: The only good thing about it is IU, the editing department does a bad job, direction is meh, CGI need more work, some are clearly noticeable meh CGI, the script is also super meh.One has to really keep their brains out for watching this show! The worse part is rather than being entertaining it feels like a drag, somebody telling you a joke over and over again. And I am not a big fan of dumb and scared male leads, even if they are Harvard grads. I want the story to be witty, not the same old one. I have to say even Master’s sun had a better opening episode and was far more entertaining.
I haven’t watched Masters Sun but I do agree with your comment. The CGI was too CGI. IU was the saving grace due to her abnormal character and unique wardrobe. Unpopular opinion: eventhough Ma Wol is a unique character, I’m not in awe with IU portraying her. Could be due to the direction, it seems like they were pushing for laughs but it did not work for me.
I don’t want to be critical after only 1 episode, but here I am sharing my opinion. It doesn’t help that I immediately associate HDL with Goblin. During the historical scenes, I was like…this looks familiar, some unjustice or killing happened, theres a sword and they focused on that sword. That alone reminded me of Goblin. But then somehow Ma Wol became an otherworldly being just like how Goblin was. She lived for decades, own a hotel, has supernatural powers and makes an aggreement to get the kid after 20 years. Too many similarities for me not to associate them both.
Yes, I completely agree, in the opening scenes I felt IU could do a lot better and later it was just her being quirky, essentially there was not much plot to work with for IU, and yes , it reminds a lot about Goblin mixed with Hwayungi, just that they ran low on budget and did not manage to get a decent director and cinematographer.

Oh, this is the first negative review I’ve read.
I didn’t want to start until I read more positive things. All the posts of IU on the fanwall got me really curious.
Since they are likely to have romance between IU and YJG, I am wondering and sort of hoping he’s much better in this drama than his previous.
