Hotel Del Luna Ep 1-4:-

I am quite enjoying this, to be honest. It’s not a perfect show, but I was really craving for some fantasy & this is scratching that itch quite well, for now. Yeo Jin Goo has thankfully fully settled into his role, as expected of him. IU is doing well enough, but she is not perfect. Just off the top of my head, her expressions at the end of ep 3 made me sigh with how forced they looked. I was also getting tired of her repeated angry “Gu Chan Sung!! Blah blah blah….” because everything, the tone, delivery, expression, body language, etc., literally felt like copy paste from scene to scene. It was so exactly the same, with no subtle progression happening between them, that it didn’t feel organic & made it obvious that she was just reading off of a script. And just in general, her portrayal of the character during the more somber moments just does not hit the spot. It’s giving me The Producers flashbacks instead of My Ahjussi, which is not a good thing (though I have concluded that My Ahjussi was an anomaly, what with how both, IU & Jang Ki Young, have failed to impress me in anything outside of it). Being the central character of this story, I just cannot help but wonder how magical this character would have been in the hands of a skilled actress, especially since we hardly ever get such interesting & complex FLs. Also, I strongly disagree with all the comments that use IU’s physical attributes as an excuse for not looking convincing in her role. That is bullshit. Ha Ji Won is also a tiny human, she is also pretty, but no one can tell me that she looks anything but badass. Kim Hyesoo is short. Song Hye Kyo is short. Height, or bulk, is not directly proportional to how much charisma & elegance a person exudes, how much screen presence they have.

ANYWAYS. My theory about Ma Wol’s past – she falls for the Captain before her & her entire gang of vigilantes get caught by the authorities & killed. She manages to survive somehow &, believing that the Captain betrayed her, kills him in a fit of vengeful rage without giving him a chance to explain himself. It would explain her guilt, her self-hate, & why her “sin” is so great. Killing a loved one requires a certain cold-heartedness after all. That’s why she is still waiting for his ghost or reincarnation. Not to reunite with him, but to ask him why he did what he did. Or to ask his forgiveness, if she has already found out that it had all been a misunderstanding.

Finally, my god that moment when Chan Sung so cavalierly said “because you will save me”. Holy shit. That was a true shimkoong moment if I have ever seen one. Ma Wol stood no chance. What a way to turn the tables. That kiss made me laugh though. That wouldn’t be my course of action under a similar situation, but then again, that is probably why I am not the FL of a kdrama. Or a 1000 yr old beautiful owner of a supernatural hotel.
