저는 이그룹들을 2018년부터 좋아했어요.

몸짱 누가 있어요?

이거는 쉬워요. 진영이는 몸짱 있어요.

저는 진영을 가장 좋아해요. 이상한고 다른 사람이어서 좋아해요. 또안, 열심이 일해요. 영어 배우고 있어요. 빨리 배우고 있어요. 이거가 저를 공부하는 것 도와줘요. 자극이에요. 저도 할 수 있어요.

TRANSLATION:

Today, I’m doing question sentence practice.

Which K-Pop group do you like the most?

I don’t have a favorite K-Pop group. I like a lot of groups. For example, GOT7 was my first love. I thought it was true love, but it wasn’t. NCT and Stray Kids have awesome music. And they both dance quite well. Don’t you think?

When is [your favorite group’s] their comeback?

Let me see…I don’t know 😅. I have to look for this. I could not find GOT7’s comeback date. Ra On-ah, do you know? Stray Kids need to rest. I can wait until next hear. (I used until here because I wanted to practice using the word. I would have omitted it otherwise). SuperM’s comeback is on October 4th. That’s next week!

Since when did you like the group?

I’ve liked these groups since 2018.

Who has the momjjang (best body) of the group?

This is easy. Jinyoung has the best body.

Who is your bias? Why?

I like Jinyoung the most. I like him because he is a strange and different person. In addition, he works hard. He is learning English. He is learning quickly. This helps me study. I can also do it (learn a language).

Omg. I haven’t seen you on DB in about a week and now I know why: you were writing this essay! I don’t have time to read it right now but I will later today 🙂

Hahaha. I know right? Actually, I was working on this one starting last night and finished it this morning. This takes way too damn long, but, I’m remembering words and grammar better now so it’s becoming easier, slowly. I just need to keep practicing. And it’s the stuff that I want to say that I don’t yet know how to say that kills me.

@raonah, sorry about all the disappearing tags! I had some editing issues. lol. I know I’ve been having some problems with making question sentences in the past, so I want to try and work on that this week. I figured I might as well have fun with it as a regular post.

Sometimes I feel like I don’t know what the heck I’m doing when it comes to particles. Sigh. I hope I didn’t repeat any/many mistakes that you pointed out to me before.

I fully realize that I said that my bias is Jinyoung and yet I posted a TEN video. I like TEN too and he has a comeback (re-debut or whatever the heck you call this) next week with SuperM.

I don’t think Koreans would actually say 예를 들어. Maybe you could say 좋아하는 그룹 중에 which means ‘among my favorite groups’ instead.

GOT7 is spelled 갓세븐 in Korean. I’m revoking your ahgase card 😉

I think it should be 참사랑이라고 생각했지만. The 라고 ending is used when you are quoting, even if you’re just quoting your thoughts.

GOT7’s comeback is rumored to be in November because Bam accidentally spoiled it at a fansign a few months ago.

It should be 이 그룹을 언제부터 좋아해요 because ‘group’ is the thing being liked, not the thing doing the liking.

It should be 이상하고 다른 사람이라서 although I think just 이상한 사람 might be better since strange and different are kind of repetitive. Also, I’m not sure if 다르다 can be used in this context. 다르다 is often used to mean ‘other’ so 다른 사람 could also mean ‘other person.’ The 라서 ending is used when you want to say ‘because it is…’.

That’s all the corrections I could find. Keep up the good work! Jinyoung is impressed.

@acacia could you confirm if my explanation of 다르다 is correct or not?

It should be 이상하고 다른 사람이라서 although I think just 이상한 사람 might be better since strange and different are kind of repetitive. Also, I’m not sure if 다르다 can be used in this context. 다르다 is often used to mean ‘other’ so 다른 사람 could also mean ‘other person.’

[1] I’ll ask my teacher about 예를 들어 and get back to you. Your suggestion makes sense.
[2] So, about GOT7. I’m going to blame 3 things on that. a] Why does GOT7 pronounce their group as GAT and not GOT, seriously. b] the stupid keyboard kept on putting a ㅆ instead of a ㅅ in the second syllable and it was driving me nuts. c] myself. Sorry.
[3] Ok. So, I have no clue what this quoting form is.
      Is this it?

      Or this?

[4] I remember that BamBam leak.
[5] I thought I saw somewhere that you shouldn’t use object particles in questions. I can’t remember where I saw that though, but that’s why I used the subject particle. I should look into that more.

[2] How are you pronouncing GAT? Are you pronouncing it like it rhymes with ‘cat’? GAT should be pronounced so it rhymes with ‘hot’.
[3] Here’s the best thing I could find on it. I thought TTMIK had a lesson on it but I don’t see it now.

Let me know what you find out on 1 and 5 🙂

        2

[2] more like cat, because that’s how I read 아. Pronunciation is so confusing sometimes.
[3] So this because is different from the 기 때문에 because? The closest thing I could find was 느라고. It’s in the PDF version of the lesson.
          https://gobillykorean.com/learn-korean-ep-22-because/

I’m a little bit confused to be honest. I’m saying, I thought it was true love, but it wasn’t. I don’t see how because comes in there.

Sorry, I realized I gave you a link to the wrong thing. I thought you were talking about a different correction.
It looks like none of those links cover that usage of 라고.
I found this that confirms that it is used for quoting thoughts.

          3

Ohhhhh…now I get you. It’s adding the word that. So, “I thought that it was true love.” Hmmm…I think I wanted to say that, but I didn’t know how to. And you can also just as easily leave out the that, so that’s why I didn’t put it in.

So I went looking things up a little more with expressing thought and I came upon this.

            https://youtu.be/TDlU8wLE_-4?t=70

Question. What is the plain form of 이라 (present, past, and future). From the timestamp I shared with you, he uses the 이라고 but didn’t really explain why and I think that was one of the only times he did that in the video.

            0
            0

You use 이라고 after nouns and it is always followed by a verb: 하다, 생각하다, 말하다, 얘기해다… The verb is the part that gets conjugated. The 이라고 part always just stays 이라고.
            Does that make sense?

            1
            0

OHHHH…I thought it was a verb given the 고 at the end. lol. thx!

[1] I asked my teacher about 예를 들어. She said that it’s not uncommonly used.

      @hades
      -이그룹을 언제부터 좋아했어요
+ youre right that it should be 을 and not 이 but you should keep the 했어요 because it is still past tense.

-이상하고 달라서 OR 이상하고 특별해서 OR 이상하고 특별한 사람이라서
All of these options work. Raonah is right in that it would be kind of weird to have 다른 사람이라서 so that’s why I added a new word: 특별하다. It means special but it also means special as in different so it works.
