Any beanies like to watch Anne with an E as much as me ? I love our poetic Anne, her relationship with Marilla and Matthew, and I get all giddy for her when Gilbert interacts with her

Did you read the books and/or watch the PBS series? I’m curious to see how you think they compare to Netflix’ version.

I have read anne of green gables series & I absolutely LOVE it. I even re read it a while ago. However I couldn’t get into the Netflix version. Even though the cinematography is beautiful, the actors are wonderful (they fit the image I had created of them in my head and how often does that happen!?) and the overall execution is excellent but I barely watched s1. It’s just that it deviates alot from the original events and that irritates me. I can however, understand why others enjoy it- the overall story is really adorable and anne herself is really charming- and I am pretty sure if I hadn’t read the series I would have enjoyed it as well!!
I know you didn’t ask me but here’s my two cents anyway 😂

Thanks for this. I read the series about once a year. I generally don’t like TV/film remakes of books I’ve read, but I loved the PBS series, so I thought maybe the Netflix one would be good to try, but I think I’ll probably have the same reaction as you if they changed the story.

They didn’t change the entire story but they tweaked it a lot (added new characters and a new (sub?)plot as well).
Also SAME!! I too generally don’t like tv shows/movies based on books!!
And I haven’t watched the pbs series. Is it good? Should I watch it? I feel like if you enjoyed this then I might too!

I loved the PBS series! But I don’t know where to watch it. I just looked it up and it looks like there’s a new PBS series (2016) which I haven’t seen. The one I’m talking about is the one with Megan Follows as Anne, made in 1985.

It DOES deviate from the original content But Im glad they keep Anne’s spirit in tact. I feel the show wants to be more relevant to today’s issues, but the fact that it deviates a bit doesn’t bother me too much. The spirit and soul is still there, and Anne is just anne.

I admit I never read the books. Im canadian yet I DID read the little house on the prairie books (which i consider to be the american version of our Anne of Green Gables). Idk which is the PBS series, but I did watch the Megan Follows version which I also enjoyed.

I hadn’t read the series before so I really really got into the series and the Anne and Gilbert moments! I wish I read the books when I was younger though – they seem really nice. Also Prince Edward Island is soo beautiful, definitely want to go there if I ever go to Canada.

I read the first book. Didn’t like it. I think I watched the first series of the Megan Follows version and quite enjoyed it. But Anne with an E is the one that has stolen my heart. It’s darker and more realistic and just makes more sense to me (even though it sometimes feels too forward-thinking for the time period). I may give the next books a try again at some point, but I am more than satisfied with the Netflix series right now. I’m hoping there will be many seasons to come!
